i hate dealers but isn’t this dealer just trying to make sure you’re not bluffing?

Perhaps he IS bluffing. How does that change anything? Either the dealer finds his offer acceptable for his profit and sales numbers or he does not. He doesn't actually want his inventory to sit and wrought.

Even if you’re bluffing, what’s to stop the dealer from doing the same to you?

True story. I wanted a car, made an offer, dealership turned it down. It hurt, because I really wanted that car, but I made myself walk away. The car sat on that dealerships lot for another month, then they re-listed it for what I offered and then it was gone a couple of days later. I had already bought another car at this point. So they dealership loses another month on "floorplan" costs (dealerships don't own the cars they sell, they take out loans and pay interest on cars sitting on their lots) and even if they got their advertised price, because of floorplan costs, they ultimately sold the car for less (maybe a lot less if they sold for less than advertised) than what they would have gotten from me a month earlier.

I went to a dealership, told them I’d offer a price once and leave. They took the offer. Stop the dance. Won’t work every time.

Pretty normal to require proof for a price match
@S.M.214
@S.M.214 26 дней назад
He wasn't asking for a match he was asking for more. Furthermore, complying with their proof request is playing their game. They just need to decide if they can meet his request within their business model.

The only thing the buyer has to "prove" is that they qualify to purchase the vehicle. Tell the salesman to POUND SAND. He doesn't need to see jack.

@delivrd question: when you say you got them to take off the add-ons, what if they were already put on the car?
@S.M.214
@S.M.214 26 дней назад
They can remove anything that they put on or simply charge their actual cost. You only care about the out the door price anyways whatever way they get to that number.

TOMI, My neighbor just traded his 2014 Accord EX-L for $9k and the dealer has it listed for $14,999. What is the most reasonable offer you think they may accept? AND, they listed it with 80k miles, but he sent me the proof that it has 102k miles. Do I have any leverage with that?
@S.M.214
@S.M.214 26 дней назад
Real problem if they rolled back the odometer as that is fraud. Report them to authorities.
@justinkerr2498
@justinkerr2498 26 дней назад
No you have no leverage most dealers have a disclosure at the bottom of the website saying not responsible for any errors. The dealership has the discretion to sell it for whatever they want they have a business and assumed the risk average cost of reconditioning on a car is 1800$ then all the administrative costs overhead and salaries. Assuming they sell the car in 30 days they will lower the price but it’s likely they will sell the car to a bad credit customer the dealership usually doesn’t make much on anything with bad credit because the bank is assuming a huge risk so they cut the deal. Not many people are looking for a 10 year old 100k Honda so it’s likely that car will sit 45+ days so they will probably lower the price at least 3 times before they sell it. People always assume the dealership is trying to screw people over they are a business trying to make a profit. I’m sure you are making this stupid comment from a 1000 dollar phone that cost less than 100$ to make if you want to complain about something there you go.
@Funexpected
@Funexpected 26 дней назад
@S.M.214 I would absolutely report them if the dashboard showed 80k miles, but photos were posted today, and the miles are accurate.

@justinkerr2498 Sooo, what's a reasonable offer? Lol
@justinkerr2498
@justinkerr2498 26 дней назад
@@Funexpected ok it’s called a clerical error, shit happens. The program you enter the car into when you take it on trade automatically puts it on the website it’s all connected. So it’s more likely the program screwed up than a manger. Nobody has time to have people like you coming in pointing out shit and leverage a mistake thinking you can get a better deal.. trust me no one at the dealership wants to waste their time with bs when they could be working with a real buyer.
