Good job on the video. 3 goals down to error. Even Bobb’s goal came from a misplaced pass. It’s not like city played the socks off Chelsea so the Enzo M’s system has been exposed. On the other hand, the goals scored by Chelsea were properly orchestrated and executed. The boys are still getting used to the system. Let’s give them patience. Enzo M is not a manager that tinkers a lot with his system, the only reasons why he played Fernandes and Caicedo was for minutes. Sterling, Noni and Guiu have been getting a lot minutes and there are only two games left in preseason so the returning boys have to get some time in. Fernandez was not poor in that advanced 8 position. On a different day that ball goes into the net or Nkunku scores that goal and it’s all good. If anyone says that Fernandes was poor then look at KDH. Both 8s were marked out of the game, Fernandes was doing well to drop into that wide position to pick up the ball (and that’s how he played that pass to Nkunku). Fernandes is not an ideal option for that advanced 8 but he does alright. He can improve on his runs outside and also into the half space when the winger has the ball (the first Chelsea goal came from Fernandes running into the half space when Noni had the ball and that’s what created the space for the cross to Sterling). All in all, Enzo M looks like he’s cooking something. I think the attacking players are starting to grasp the concept but the off ball work and the defenders are not there yet. What I noticed from this game though is that the team is seriously handicapped in the wingers and striker position. If you take off Sterling and Noni, there is no proper winger left (just makeshift type). If you take out Jackson, there is no proper striker (just a youth prospect in Guiu). We need those two positions to be addressed and the defence to sharpen up. Then we can build from there.
I believe that when Chelsea squad get used to playing Enzo's style/tactics, they will be fine. The reason why Chelsea players can easily adapt into Mourinho's and Conte's style of playing are these two ways are quite similar and straightforward. Nowadays Chelsea with new ownerships willing to make revolutionary changes and write new history, it's like changing Chelsea football heritage, I am pretty sure the club will suffer defeats and pains then reach to final destination.
We should understand that Maresca was experimenting, its better that he does now. Also the 1st penalty was not a penalty, its was Halland dive. Most of their goals were our mistake, we will improve. Also Caecido was playing his first game, also Enzo F is playing his 2nd game. We will not play this formation in real matches
Very good analysis. 8 yrs vs 3 wks. I really like this style of play. Once the fine tuning is sorted, in terms of personnel, this team will be frightening. We really have to make a decision on Mudryk. I thought the team played very well, apart from the teething mistakes. We can clearly see a style of play developing. KTBFFH.
I agree. I think right now Enzo doesn’t offer enough to justify starting him every match. Based on last season and the preseason so far, my starting midfield 3 would be Lavia, Caicedo, and Dewsbury-Hall. Or Nkunku, Caicedo, and Lavia. But like you said, the board might try to force Maresca to start Enzo.
This is a beautiful post analysis of the game between City and Chelsea pre season game. Kudos to you on this one. So far, I have a good knowledge of what the first team should be and the right formation that really works. Only if Maresca can see it.
It may have been a B-Team, but its a team that has bene playing this style of play for years under Pep. Chelsea have been playing Maresca-ball for 3 weeks. Its going to take time for everyone to get upto speed. Have faith!
@@ManlikepauloSo who's to be blamed, playing mudrky on the right instead of the Left, who played Enzo as a false 9 kDH as a LW,who should we ask about it, playing 3Dms alone is a crime talk more of Pushing a dm to false 9 role
Chelsea's build up from defense should be checked and be adjusted. We need to play with wingers wide, and stop having players being played out position. For example. Gusto played LW
Great video I always said that if it's a pivot , it's Lavia/Cedo and Enzo/Cedo not all unless the team we playing against is sitting back way to deep . Cedo and KDH for the pressing 8/ box to box and palmer and nkunku in the 8/10 on the right side Carney should be a rotational option
I don't think it's the board forcing enzo to play enzo, it's an experiment and to get people like enzo and caciedo to get match fitness. It's all an experiment. It would be plan B or C. Instead of malo gusto, you have chilwel, and no fullback will need to invert.
Chelsea players lacks that electric touch and movement with the ball, starting the game by passing the ball behind is the worst strategy so far when you have fast opponents better don't try it. Chelsea players were slow and poor passes especially from Mudryk. Defence players are poorly slow and relax while moving the ball. Goal Keeper Sanchez is very poor playing with his legs since he was signed till date. I wonder where and how Coach Enzo qualified him as his number one Goal Keeper, even before coming to Chelsea as their Coach?.
Good points. Especially I agree that I think the board is demanding Maresca to play or integrate big money players like Enzo, Caceido and Mudryk. Just like the time with F.Torres. That's a lot of bullshit from someone who's trying to safe their faces in front of the investor.
People r getting a lot of things wrong first thing if it was in the premier League that first goal wouldn't have bin a penalty with VAR alot would go different in that game a next thing that won't be our starting 11
This is due to the spaces between the defenders trying to be expansive and lack of options. When the options are not there you go to the goalkeeper long or in to touch and reorganise the line spaces. It is simple especially when you are trying to marry performances with results. It is naive and foolish.
That's why I wasn't mad at the scoreline. It's better you make all the experiments during preseason games than do that when the season is underway. Let him use the next match if possible and do more experiments if he so wishes, and after that he should be convinced on how best to use all the players. The important thing is for Maresca to start the season with the best setup to be able to match City in every aspect of the game, and if possible win the match.
We definitely learnt what not to do with this starting line up. Crazy to me like you mentioned Nkunku as a striker when his strengths are clearly the 8/10. The best of his career to date is what I call a shadow striker. Enzo is not a half space player unless a lot of coaching takes plays. He is an orchestrator of play. Should Caicedo play, he is a willing runner taking advantage of half space gaps and a great interrupter of play. To me, almost a Kante style player when retrieving back from an 8 to sit along side the 6. Generally before getting there he will already have made a tackle. He is not a player that needs to see the opposition attacker in front of him to make tackle like both Enzo and Lavia. Basically our ndidi. As for now it’s become clear to me that the starting line up for the sake of flow and understanding of the system should be as below. Sanches Reece Tosin Badi Gusto Noni Lavia KDH Sterling Nkunku Guiu Reece Tosin Sanches Badi Lavia Gusto Nkunku KDH Noni Guiu Sterling The likes of Jorgensen, Caicedo, Palmer, Cucurella and Jackson need time off the bench as they weren’t there for (enough of) preseason. At the moment to me players with high ceilings like Enzo, Colwill, Fofana, Mudryk, Carnie etc aren’t even making the subs bench until serious training and understanding of the system has been undertaken. Carnie and Fofana being the nearest of the mentioned.
Good analysis like alwaysz. But it’s quite obvious to me that this was a game for experiments. Maresca was sure not going to show Guardiola our setup for the first game of the season. I won’t read much into this game.
Even with this defeat I still have confidence in the style of play because we are not going to be playing City who are the masters of possession play every week in the league
Don't say too many midfielders killed the attack... We scored 2-2 against Wrexham...one of the goals was scored by a Midfielder.... Ugochukwu. We scored with a penalty against Celtic...conceded 4. Against Club America, we scored 1 goal, with 2 dives that gave us penalties...we won 3-0. Let's not pretend as if we have been doing well.
What if Caicedo's weak foot is not good enough? Lavia has been passing this way since this pre season in this same position with his weak foot.... Against lesser opposition... But why should we have a player in this strick position passing with his weaker foot? When he is heavily pressed? That's on the Coach.!!!
Enzo the coach is not the problem. Look at every single goal. Mistakes from the players (Same problem from last season) Reece James and Tosin misplaced their passes. Gusto did not mark his man for the 3rd goal.
No, no worries, the system clearly works. All goals came from players not being adapted to it yet. 4 times they failed to execute Maresca style of play and got punished. But City didn’t overwhelm us tactically which has been the case since the UCL final. They usually run through us, that didn’t happen this time. It’s not like City attacked and we couldn’t stop it from going in, we gave them 4 goals, they didn’t “create” them.
It doesn't work. These mistakes were bound to happen once we meet a top team with good press... Because the system is faulty. Again, in the league it was 4-4, 1-1 last season.
Dull Chelsea players. Dulling dulling ball players. You don't play dull game with City. Build up from the back, Soo poor and rusty. Even goalkeeper Sanchez is even dulling the game more trying to calm players so they can slow play . So rusty!! Quickness, sharpness and fastness all were locked for God knows somewhere.
My pick would be Jorgensen | Gusto Colwill Fofana James | Lavia Nkunku Palmer | Sterling Jackson Madueke Nkunku & Palmer as the attacking 8 would be so deadly. Maybe Caceido could alternate with either 1 of them. That would make our counter pressing more effective and defensively more solid. We need a winger that is fast good at dribbling and direct. Don't see much from Mudryk as a winger. He has played as a 10 under Poch and he influenced the game better. Wondering if it's a good idea to try Mudryk at that attacking 8 role but might go really wrong 😂
Is this guy serious? First, this is preseason and second this is the first game that Enzo F, Caicedo and Lavia will play together, is not that they have been playing together for 5 or 6 game, and this guy is just concluding that there is a politics that is forcing Enzo M to play the three together.
These owners are to make us cry for so long why don't they leave d manager do what he understands???? Fernandez doesn't fit this system and they want him at the pitch by all means!!!!! These are disgusting owners!!!!!
You lied...!! Chelsea is not learning how to play from the back. This club has been playing out from the back since Antonio Conte got here....Did you see Graham Potter vs Salzburg away? Last season we played out from the bank... The system Enzo is trying to put doesn't give the players enough options...
@@talkfootballty2025 the only new player in that back line is Tosin... Others have been together so they know each other to some extent. It's not like they are new players and a new coach....
I’m a Man City fan and I’m saying that it was very silly of maresca to play gusto LW. They’ve should’ve of started Madueke or Sterling or even both would’ve been better.
