I'm a biology teacher in a school. Yesterday, just as I was about to start the class, I got a ministration to preach Christ to them. After I did, nine out of 14 gave their lives to Jesus and I was glad plus one who I know was already genuinely born again. After that, I was surprised that they were all asking me questions about christian and worldly music. From the way they asked, I guess it has really been a concern to them. I took my time to explain to them(not far from what you've said) but I can't wait till Monday to show this video to the students. Thank you so much Jaymikee for giving yourself to the Lord!
After I gave my life to Christ as a Tween, worldly songs was what I struggled with the most because I love music a lot. I also discovered that I felt drained of the little faith God has started helping me to build after listening to them. And of course, there was an array of lust that beclouded my eyes and thoughts. When I saw that I wasn't making headway by my power, I had to pray honestly: "Lord, block my ears from hearing and understanding the lyrics of these songs". And the Miracle happened! Till now (almost in my thirties), I can hardly hear the lyrics of worldly songs no matter how long I stay listening to it. It's only when someone tells me what they're singing that I truly hear it. The Holy Spirit did the selective listening for me. I've come to discover in our walk with the Holy Spirit that it's more about how far we're willing to walk with Him in consecration that He would help us get through. And for a Believer who knows that destinies of generations are upon his/her life, we should be more yielded. It is always to our benefit at the end of the day. May the Lord help us to DIE DAILY to the flesh. God bless you, JayMikee.
Well said...I actually began growing my relationship with God when I dropped all of those songs and stopped listening to them. I also teach my teens in church to kill their appetite for those kind of music so they can connect to God
Some "Christian" songs are only religious and not spiritual. Songs that conflict with what the Bible truly says. Not all Christian songs are spiritual... My humble opinion
I completely agree....some so called gospel videos are even worse than the secular videos...🤕🤕🤕...Hmmmm...it is well with our soul...I believe the HOLYSPIRIT is not the author of confusion...let us be attentive to Him as a lifestyle
I love the healthy food and junk food analogy. Christian songs are healthy food; secular songs are junk food; worldly songs are not just junk food, but outright poison. Thank you for touching this topic! God bless you!!
I have to drop this; I don't know about everyone else, but for me, if I hear a song for just 2 mins, 10 minutes later, I'm humming or singing it, either consciously or not, but most times, I do it unconsciously. This then has made me very selective about what I listen to. My friends know me, that if I'm checking through some Whatsapp statuses and I stumble upon a song, I'm singing it the next minute (even I sometimes I'm not aware that I'm singing. It's just like reflex to me). It's so recurrent that if I was singing a song on my own, and someone beside me is singing another song. I'll switch to that person's song and I won't even be aware that I did. Those who have experienced it will often ask why I switched to their songs and I'll smile because even I don't know. When I'm in the bus or on the road and I hear worldly music, I immediately start singing a christian song in my heart so I wouldn't have to listen to that other song because I promise, I'm going to be singing that exact same song in less than 30 minutes. Most times, I'm not even aware that I'm singing it. So really, as JayMikee said, worldly songs will do no good to your soul.
Oh my dear! You said all in my heart. Many times, I even consciously recompose those worldly songs with scriptures or more positive words because of the rate at which they stick to my mind is alarming. The pain is that they are everywhere so this is a daily struggle better put, hourly struggle to sanctify my heart and ensure that it is in tune with the Holy Ghost.
The Holy Spirit made me dislike worldly music, He did it Himself. Never knew it was wrong until the Holy Spirit made me uncomfortable listening to those music. God Bless you for sharing this. The Holy Spirit is my best teacher, always on point🤗🙏🏼.
Well said bro. Essentially, live in the light as God is in the light then we have FELLOWSHIP with each other, the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses our sin 1John1:7. As we discern the Spirit, we shall never be tossed to and from by deception.
Thank you so much for this I really appreciate it. You really really "FINISHED WORK". THANK GOD FOR THE GIFT AND SPIRIT OF WISDOM AND DISCERNMENT AND THE SYSTEM OF UTTERANCE UPON YOUR LIFE.
Well said, I agree with you . "All wordly songs are secular but not all secular songs are wordly". Good one with the analogy of junks and healthy food too. 👍
Subscribed! Never been better said. This question has remained unanswered for so long. Thank you Jaymikee for listening to God. This is a generational solution. Thank you!
Years back I used to think it was difficult to stop listening to worldly music but i bet you that the holyspirit makes things easier or would i say having a relationship with God where all you desire is to keep knowing your father wont allow you thirst after these songs. I m a work in progress and grateful. Things we see are temporary but the other things we dont see are eternal. So I would follow the spirit songs though I dont see but it ministers to my soul
It's funny how I have known this since i was a teen😊 before I start listening to a song i check for lyrics, whether secular or gospel, to ensure it will edify my soul and/or glorify God. Oh...i had a notebook for writing song lyrics then. Thanks Jay Mikee for this awesome video👌 more insights from God!
Thank you so much sir for this timely message,I had to struggle with sin this week just because I viewed a person's status on WhatsApp that had a worldly music at the background,I couldn't help it,I viewed the status over and over again just to hear that song and I ended up downloading it,I know how far away I felt from God for the 3days I indulged in this particular music but God saved me yesterday morning and I felt sober and deleted it and this morning I'm seeing this message, I'll guard my heart and be at alert for any form the devil decides to take because he knows music is my weak point. Thank you so much sir😊😊.
When I was growing up, in the 60s there were more worldly songs that were just secular and innocent in verbiage. Record companies such as Motown, Capitol/Atlantic released songs like "Hit the Road Jack", "Dancin in the street", "Respect", "Fingersnaps", "How Sweet it is to be Loved by You", etc. All of these singers grew up in church - most of them were PK's. The 70s started out half and half with songs like, "What's Goin On?" "Superwoman". In the mid 70s the enemy revealed his real plan, and there was a shift. For example, these same two singers released songs like "Superstition", and "Let's Get it On". In the 80s songs like "Savin All My Love for You" put a whole new spin on adultry. With each generation the media gets more Wicca and violent and sexually explicit.. We've gone from "The Cosby Show" to "Modern Family". You can see the effect of those who sadly grew up grew up without prayer in schools.
@Eunice Oni I think the most important thing to do before you listen to any song is to read the lyrics. If your spirit does not agree with some of the lyrics, then do not proceed to listen to such a song. There are secular songs made by secular artistes that can be a good listen. Songs that explore different areas of life such as politics, trauma, social life, mental health, and personal growth. These do not negatively influence a person to lust after fleshly things. I personally listen to Twenty One Pilots and find their music interesting especially as they claim to be Christians. In summary, you need to be very careful of what you listen to.
I will hence forth reference this perfectly articulated & explained video to anyone who asks about the question in discussion. Thank you a Joshua. May God continually Bless you! Love you & your ministry brother, you are a great inspiration!
I love your balance sir, behind your words, the unheard statement is an organic relationship with the Holy spirit, it is only normal that as the relationship builds, the energy to live the zoe life begins to find expression hence, songs are transport systems, gateways into the spirit. As we grow, the flesh must give way, there would be no substitute for a Christian music to express God in and through us. Appetite is a dangerous thing. May be taking an education into the framework of Lucifer can expose a little dimension of music. May the Lord help us. I love you jaymikee. Thank you sir.
I'm glad for your stand, bro Jaymikee. They are clear and straight, no trying to impress. We have just a few of your kind in this generation. I'm a young pastor who is just few years in the ministry. But from the very year I surrendered to Christ, I had a strong conviction against any music worldly. For all my years in the faith and now in the ministry, this conviction has rather grown stronger. God bless you brother. Don't ever change from this to gain more followers bro. It's Kimbo Clovis from Cameroon
Beautiful sir!❤️ Felt really blessed listening to this sir 🙇🙌... More of God's wisdom and a voice that cannot be altered. Everyone that hears you speak will hear him that has made you in Jesus name. Amen.
Wow!!! The wisdom on how Joshua broke it down is amazing. God bless you Jaymikee. More strength, more grace, more anointing, more wisdom in Jesus name, amen.
The definitions are apt and right on point. It is also necessary to note that the one thing that addresses both the physical and spiritual at the same time is sound, so whatever sound is played out in a place is speaking to both flesh and spirit, and when you think of it, man is the only creature that functions effectively in both the flesh and the spirit. Therefore there's more to what worldly music can do to your spirit man, just because you have a body that is made of flesh, than meets the eyes. It literally causes your flesh to come alive and begin to manifest. It may not be instant, but it'll only be a matter of time. I think that this is also a function of whatever spirit(s) sit on the altar upon which the songs we listen to are dedicated.
Saw the link on someone’s status and followed to know what’s up, after listening I can say that that was really insightful I have to share ❤️ God bless
I do agree that music can get into your heart and spirit without permission and I have learned a lot now. I love listening to the radio & this means I have to tone it down. Thank you Sir 😊
Wow 😳 well articulated! Music actually affects out minds and soul,it gets to is without permission... that's why sometimes we unconsciously find ourselves singing worldly songs without even having one on our phone....we really need to guard our hearts
Wow! I'm blessed tremendously with this short enlightenment eye opener. Now I can see clearly where I'm missing it, thank God and thank you for this. Receive more auction to function more in Christ ijn. Peace.
Thank u for touching this topic, wisdom is after all key. I somehow felt cornered about the music thing, since I was into secular music before I was born again, now it was really suffocating because I had no solid thing to hold onto,as to why I shouldn't continue with my music, but I followed suit anyways. But all this led me to judging every other christian I'd meet listening to such music again, in really felt betrayed somehow, and would relapse here and there, even now I don't know if I'm 100% off it, but I see God helping me bit by bit,as in the love I had for it is not so much there again. So yeah, thank u sir🙏
Thank you, brother. God bless you. Christians sometimes play and dance to these worldly songs at weddings and birthday parties. They corrupt our souls. They feed us with sensual desires and promote immoralities. They don't glorify or affirm God in our lives. God help us. Well spoken, bro.
Thank you for the definition of 'worldly,' as seen in 1 John 2:16... It's so easy to redefine sin for the sake of our pleasure... For me, I love music so much but music is first God's invention. So I'll go with God.
Wow.. I asked the Holy Spirit yesterday of His say on this Topic.. because I study music at the university.. as music students, we try to listen to more secular songs.. plus I’m easily drawn to sweet melodies.. so when I hear secular songs and even some “worldly” songs that are really nice, I listen.. it’s surprising now that I just opened my YT App and boom 💥.. the first video I saw! Got my answer already😆 Thank you very much for this sir.
This is wonderful. One of the first steps I took after giving my life to Christ was deleting all wordly songs from my phone and employing more of godly songs. And to be honest it really made me conscious of Him and you know sing of His praises everytime. I even got to realize the in-depth meaning of songs we sing casually. I really hope a lot of people see this and learn from it. Thanks for this Jaymikee🤝
You are Very Right. Music has Different Purposes e.g Used for Worshipping, Advertisements, education, cultural discussions, beneficial concepts, enlightenment, immorality e.t.c. Once The Purpose isn't Of the List of the Flesh and we don't get addicted to it or doesn't distract us from Worshipping JESUS CHRIST. I believe it's ok to Hear it. But More So Gospel Songs should be in larger quantity than any genre of music and We must also Be under the Influence of what GOD'S SPIRIT wants us to listen to before listening to it. So Itz a Matter of Lyrical content, Wisdom and GOD'S SPIRIT GUIDANCE. GOD HELP us all IN JESUS CHRIST NAME .AMEN.
This is a good synopsis of the different types of music, secular, worldly and Christian/religious. Music has the ability to “enter the heart” and has the ability to alter destinies. Blessings🇺🇸
God has spoken to me though metal, rock, rap, R&B, country and classical music. If you are his child and looking for the word, only the beauty is absorbed. The Bible tells us to sing and play loudly for God's glory, and He uses the most unlikely vessels.
God bless you Minister Jaymikee for stating the obvious. Truly I love listening to music but still, I try all possible best to allow the Spirit to pick my songs cos... I have learnt over time that music can alter ones perspective to life. Most especially when you say you want to totally live for the Lord.. it is simple, whatever you allow consciously or not into our heart will someday motivate you or make mess of you. So it's a matter of choice...
I remember vividly about my final year at school, my friend said he is deleting all the worldly songs on his phone and he did, while me on the other side have over 5000+ songs on my phone, what I did after his decision was I started deleting them. God so good, I couldn't listen to worldly song for a day, days became weeks and months, and what I notice during this time was that we were actually fellowshipping almost everyday in our room with our fellow brethren, just like a chaff before the wind the desire to listen to worldly music got blown and it became noise and irritating to me. Little did I know that I'll influence younger people during my service, I sing a lot of Christians songs to them and talk more about the person hood of Christ Jesus to them. I know of a certain how Holy Spirit endorses spirit filled songs to a believer, because music as a tool of worship is a massive and explosive weapon that can't be contained when released.
Awesome message......to me every Christian ( believer in CHRIST JESUS) most especially those still young in Faith should make it a habit of listening to only Godly songs so as to keep building themselves daily . May God strengthen us all. More Grace to all my brethren.
Relating food to music is just very apt! Taking junks in high quantity will eventually pollute the body system, invariably listening to so much secular music will pollute our spirit man and make it unfit for the Holy Spirit to work/walk freely.
Omoo....this is Jaymikee? I'm shocked tbh. I was expecting one guy with suit(yunno all this baba pastor, no offense) I watched Legion and I can't still believe it's him. Wow...I'm impressed and shocked.
Ok I really loved juicewrld music's and I got really addicted to it that I even use to think of smoking and doing drugs cos the late juicewrld himself was a drug addict and all his songs are based or centered on drugs But I gave my life to Christ recently and then every of his song just had no meaning to me .. I'll rather listen to Dunsin Oyekan now And to anyone out there music is a spirit Worldly music pollutes the mind Tho at first I deleted the music and then redownloaded them .. I think this happened like 3x but now I can say im free And plus I love jaymikee song titled heaven too ❤️ More grace Mike
Wow! Have been expecting this for a long time! Thanks bro Joshua for giving answers to billions of people questions. More grace to do more for the kingdom of God in Jesus name amen!
