I agree with Funky Dineva’s comment, overqualified = you’ll ask for more and won’t stay around for long definitely if you find better

One of my strategies has always been to modify my resume, specifically the way I list my education, according to the entry point I’m seeking with an employer. If it doesn’t require a graduate degree but allows experience to be commensurate with education, I lean into that. I won’t list any of my advanced degrees initially. Once I’m hired, I add my degrees according to the opportunities that become available. I use my tools (degrees, certs, etc,) as leverage. Aside from that, I hardly mention them. We have to move different. 🙌🏾💯

OMG! I LITERALLY JUST REWROTE MY RESUME TO DUMB IT DOWN. I know for a fact that I was being denied because of my education and experience. I will come back and update how it goes!!

It depends on the job. If you are being told you are over qualified, then you need a job within your field.

You should be adjusting your résumé for every job that you apply for so if you are not removing your degree from a job that you think you are overqualified for, then yeah you’re doing the wrong thing.

if the "PREFERENCES" section says "BILINGUAL PREFERRED" then you know regardless of your degree, someone with a GED can get the job over you because they are bilingual.

I have 3 graduate degrees and I get told I’m over qualified all the time. It’s so annoying

just focus on what they actually prefer. REQUIRED skills vs PREFERRED skills.

@@user-z98lw4fm8t the post usually says 10 plus year of experience. I have that. It usually says bachelor degree and preferred masters. I have that. Still get told I’m over qualified for VP, Senior Director positions. I apply for SVP or EVP positions and I’m told I need more experience

@@jeremyd5850 you have to have certain certifications to be senior director acquired after graduate school. it all depends on the company and actual job description. If you have never worked in an OFFICE SETTING before nor have customer service experience then I wouldn't hire you either even if you have a masters degree.

Most of the expenses for college come from room and board if you are low income.

people don't know how to keep it simple on a resume. Only put credentials based on the job description. I won't list my degree in business if I'm applying for a custodial job or a job that requires technical skills. people do too much with these degrees. a lot of jobs only require licenses and certifications. there are certifications that out ways a masters degree heavily which is why you can go to a vocational school and get HVAC. LOOK AT THE "PREFERENCES" SECTION ON THE JOB ANNOUNCEMENT not the "requirements" sections.
