Hello , thanks for the clarity of this video . We are discussing with our son if going for double or triple award and coming from different academic stream was not easy for me to understand . The school are looking only to what grades sudents are going to get to advertise the great results , I'm more focusing on contents and now i'm very clear . Thank You . Grazie .

You are very welcome. I agree that school are often more interested in their large scale results, numbers at the different grades and there % values at different grades. And they lose sight of the student who should be at the centre of their view. If you need any more advice, do not hesitate to ask. I have many tutees doing Double and Triple Award for GCSE and IGCSE, so can give thoughts on how they progress.

hello there. thank you so much for the video. it helped me a lot. Just a small question. I wish to take double science and like you said in the video if I take double award there would be a chance to do another subject and I wish to take human biology. Would that be a good idea? And even if I don't take human biology, do I need to do triple science instead to do dermatology? I am not sure about pursuing a career in dermatology but I certainly like the idea of it. I am in Edexcel board by the way. Hope you will reply soon. Thank you very much sir. 😊

Hi. In truth I am unsure why you would do this - you are basically choosing human biology rather than doing more Bio, Chem and Phys (with triple award). I think that the full IGCSE in Bio, Chem and Phys will look better than Double Award + human biology. Is it an allowed combination - not clear but if your school offers human biology, then they will know for sure. As far as the process is concerned, for Dermatology, you need to become a medic first i.e.,k get a dgree in medicine. You then specialise. I would argue that since medicine is a multidiscipline science application, you are stronger with triple award - the human biologgy is not going to enhance at all. Do you have a problem with chem or phys? You really need to be very strong in the sciences and the competition is fierce. If you want more advice, chat back or contact me.

@@johnchilton3975 thank you sir for the advice. After reading your reply, I think I have changed my mind. Having several grades for phy, chem and bio should help me more. I would like to know your email so that I can contact you more about this and if I stumble upon some issues.

Hello. First of all your video is fantastic. But could I ask a question please? How many papers would a triple award (ccea) student would have to sit? Would it be 6 or 9? And would there be much course work to complete before even sitting the exam? Thank you so much for this video.

I assume you are asking this question because you need to choose. Does that mean you are in Year 9 (and have to choose next September) or are you in Year 10 and are starting the course in this present September? More specifically, ther answer depends on which course you are doing. For example, AQA GCSE Triple Award would see you doing 6 exams - two for each science. CIE IGCSE Triple Award would see you doing 9 papers, 3 for each science.

Hello mate can you please tell me when was triple science first introduced to be part of curriculum. I did my GCSE back in 2008. I was put in foundation class without my knowledge as I was a new foreign student

Triple Award was introduced when GCSEs started in 1986. Double Award was introduced 10 years later in 1996.

What should i do triple or double for medical please tell me.

This is a no-brainer... medicine us a multidisciplinary science endeavour... you should be investing a lot of time and hard work into science. That means triple award. Further, when you do A-Levels, if you are strong enough, you should try bio, chem, phys and maths. So work VERY hard on those for gcse.

I’m from another non English country first to UK studying grade 10 for the GCSE but I do not like science which should I choose ?

By Grade 10, I assume you mean Year 10 - so you start this academic year (September) aged 14 and during the year, you become 15. First language not being English is not really the problem - you are going to have to work at your English if you are ultimately, going to take the exams in English. When you say you do not like science, I assume this means that you are not intending to take science for A-Levels or the IB. You are already set on other subjects. In which case, as long as you are not going to take a STEM subject at university, then do double award.

@@blablabbla6480 why do you not like science?

I have been doing triple science since year 9 and i still enjoy it but I found it harder so I am start thinking doing double award cos it is less content and don't like space and some of the triple biology content . The things i am doing chemistry and physcis at a level and hopefully study engineering at uni. Do you think it is right choice ? I am doing 9 GSCEs without science gsces .

... So with Triple Award, are you doing 12 GCSEs?

@@Thatgirl861 OK... so first of all, that is a crazy number. No university wants that many. If you can do well with them all, that is great, but if you do poorly with them, that will frustrate you. If you aim to apply for difficult universities to get into (e..g, Oxbridge, IC, LSE, etc), having a large number of GCSEs will not help if some are poorly graded. For those types of university, if you do poorly, there needs to be a reason why it all went wrong and the two reasons that are NOT acceptible are: 1. My teacher was awful. 2. I did a lot of them. If you are aiming to do education above GCSEs and are thinking of the sciences in any way, then you would be well-advised to continue with triple award. If you are thinking of possibly dropping a GCSE to give you more time, then drop something else.

thank you for replying i am thinking doing engineering degree at oxford uni and will do physics , maths and further maths at a level . Well if they look at just grades then , i am just going to do combined science and get 99 rather than getting 777 in triple .
