We front loaded 529. Our daughter is 2. We're putting in 30,000$ a year since she was 2. Plan to do this for 3 years and stop. She should have enough when she's 18. Don't pause your retirement though.

Why do people call and ask if they should work the baby steps out of order? They know what the team is going to say. Either work the plan or don't, but the plan lays out the steps it does for a reason.

Being secure and self-sufficient in your retirement is a MUCH higher priority than a college fund.

Don't pause retirement. She have a lot in her college fund already. She have plenty of time before she starts college.

I think the best comment would have been, “if you decide to do your plan, you have some wiggle room.” It’s not the Baby Steps, but they will still be okay if they decide to buckle down on the college fund.

There’s not a 100% chance someone will retire. There are multiple life scenarios that don’t end in retirement. What an odd thing to say.
@muggins20

Dave has clarified this before by saying "There's 100% change you're going to stop working, either you retire, become unable to work, or die" (not direct quote/paraphrasing) But what is meant is that either you'll need the money to live on yourself or if worst case scenario you pass, your heirs will get that money, which could be used for education, which is why your own retirement fun is prioritized over a child's college fund

Ok, unpopular opinion, stop investing in your retirement and put it in her 529 until it's at 75,000 and stop. Switch to a regular savings account and put the rest of what you think she will need there. You don't know if your daughter will go to college for any number of reasons and you CAN over invest in a 529. You're worth over a million, invest in your child so they don't feel the NEED to take out debt, but don't over invest because it will be taxed AGAIN if she decides to use the 529 for anything other than school. (i.e starting her own company, down payment on a house, etc.) Just my thoughts that mean nothing lol.

I think you only pay taxes on the profits if the money is used for something other than school

Most time having knowledge or insight about a particular activity can as well be a pleasing exercise. I can boldly say that forex and crypto trading is one of the profitable money exchange services that elevates investors and their financial status

Investing in crypto is very volatile and risky which is why most successful investors trade with professional brokers

The real risk in the Crypto market is the risk of not investing, not the risk of short term price volatility.

Nothing beats engaging an expert in any trade, selfishness and greed has deterred many from doing this and they ended up running a huge loss

She will be close to 59 1/2 when her daughter is a Sophomore. She could also dip into that HUGE nest egg to fund the rest if she needed to. She should have around $6-$7 million by then. They have so many options.

Why not just have your retirement cranked up and if need be, just pay out of that? Taxes sure, but whatever.

Well technically a 529 is an investment or better yet the house for the investments

I’m in the same spot, I am just a baring down and contributing to both. Just putting the 529 in a 500 index fund and letting it ride!

I am not crazy about 529. The money you put in is after tax, my State give no benefits. I also feel you need to invest in your retirement before your kids education fund. At the same time YOU need to save up for your kids education. My kid is 8 years old, I am worth about 3.5 million (and I have a pension from work) and this is the FIRST YEAR I will have money for a 529... previously, all my money was invested in either real estate (equity) or retirement funds. I have not looked into a 529 plan yet but plan to but I do have concerns. I have one kid, I am concerned what happens if my kid gets a free ride or god forbid something happens that she can't go to University... if I had more then one kid I would have no issues with a 529. Right now, we are maxing out all retirement investments.

People who really have millions in assets don’t generally feel the need to brag about it to strangers on RU-vid. So you either really don’t have it, or you are incredibly insecure. 🤷🏻‍♂️
@johnSmith-uz8nl
@johnSmith-uz8nl 2 года назад
@@edhcb9359 I say I really have it. And I try to spread my story. I never has a big shovel, I never got any inheritance (at least not yet). BUT I have always lived below my means. I have 8 rental properties and a home that has been paid off since last May. Before last May, I was zero in the bank (always putting every penny towards my mortages)... so, I would say I am incredibly insecure.

Something wrong with this lady's heart. Doesn't sit well with me, and I think they picked up on that. Not sure if its entitlement or the need to live this perfect life to show off to her friends and family, but something is off with her humility and lack of gratitude.
