Yeah this is a absolute trash way to review something. LTT has shown that they don't care about their reviews. Their reviews are so sloppy compared to other tech channels. Simply editing in a 1 second prerecorded face reaction to the price is not good enough. If Nvidia had come in with the 3080Ti at $1400, would this review have been the same? What if they came in a $800? Price is extremely important. LTT is great for entertaining videos on new and unique tech. It has become really bad for actual reviews of products.

@@jonlaw16 Or you know they tell you what you need to know about the product itself and you decide if it is worth it depending on the price. The tech channels shouldn't decide for you they should give you the tools to make the decision yourself. Especially now where price is fluctuating so much that msrp is absolutely pointless information. I know know that the 3080ti is a good card, I know how she compares to other offerings on the market and I can based on that in consideration of my own economic standing decide at what price I buy one if at all.
Nvidia changed the msrp from 1000$ to 1200$ immediately prior to release, reviewers were under the impression it was going to be $1000. Either way, people need to stop whining about price, GPU's have been selling, a lot, at over double their MSRP, complain about scalpers all you want, but manufacturers have raised their prices significantly, and they're still getting scooped up and resold at huge markups, meaning MSRP is nowhere close to fair for these cards. Does it suck? Fuck yes, but that's literally how the market works, it's supply and demand. Demand exceeds supply, significantly, therefore the ONLY solution to the disparity is to raise the price to find equilibrium. 1200$ for the 3080ti sounds absurd, but if you look at the market, it's being scalped for significantly lower markup than the rest of the lineup, meaning it is not selling at as high of a markup, MEANING the 1200$ price is far, far closer to "correct" for the market conditions, than the 3080, and 3090.
@@tooitchy I found a store that had some cards in store as they adjust pricing depending on how many cards they have left. Funny thing was that the 3080 ti is cheaper than the 3080 there.

@@coralinealgae This card is still useless. It costs 71% more than the 3080 (sometimes it's 100% more, mind you) but only has 2-10% in performance gains in gaming. And in 3D applications (my professional area) it's also useless *exactly because of the 50% less VRAM than the 3090%*.

i also would have liked at least some segment at the end (edited in) about how the 1200$ msrp changes things up. But to be fair here, the expectations going into the video was the "old" internal msrp of 999$ which would make this a "42% price increase for 10% more performace". Just goes to show how much editorial quality has become second priority to production quality on LTT, they didn’t even wait for the price reveal before shooting the video. I guess the extra editing time was more important
Absolutely agree. I don't think he is a shill but if you can't make a review with knowing all the important details (and price is like one of the most important aspects) well maybe you should not upload it at all... That's how you know it is more about entertainment and less about actual professional reporting. This review was a major dud.
@@leolego2 I have no opinion on the card. But I would however like to point out how triggered you seem to be by the very community you are also criticizing for being triggered.. kind of ironic right? lmao... hope your day gets better my guy and I truly mean that
There is so many things wrong with this review that I'm not even going to start listing them. All I will say is it's an embarrassment for LTT and I will not be able to consider their reviews as legitimate anymore. Maybe you're trying to make a few too many videos a week there, bud. Damn! I mean, even Jay managed to keep himself from fawning all over this thing! WTF Linus?!? Seriously, how much is Nvidia paying you?
Very disappointed with this review by Linus - he completely accepted Nvidia's talking points on comparing the 3080ti against the 3090 rather than the 3080... "It's a no-brainer"??? What in the world Linus.... 70% more for 5-10% improvement... and this is on the MSRP, which is "supposed to be reasonable". Even if you would have had to re-record the entire video, it would have been better than making yourself seem like a fool.
@@chagi4334 It doesn't matter. If the current market is charging 3x MSRP, it's still way better to pay 3x MSRP over USD699 than it is to pau 3x MSRP over USD1199 for a 15% (sometimes not even that) performance bump.
@@chagi4334 there is an argument to be made. Lots of people bought 3090s because they wanted a new card and it was hard to get anything else. This would at least be a better version of that position if you can get it at MSRP. I am still on the "not going to buy till I see reasonable prices" bandwagon. And believe me... It does hurt. But I am not going to let these corps walk all over me. I can endure less than ideal fps and smaller than ideal resolutions for quite a while longer.
What's the issue? It's a premium card like all other 80ti's and is priced accordingly. And the shortage bumps the prices even more. I think people just don't like nvidia cause they think amd runs a charity for gamers (they're a business with share holders, they want money)
@@disliker7182 They have already had their biggest revenue year ever in the history of the company. Shareholders are fine as they are. And is it not "priced accordingly with other TI's." The 2080Ti was a 30% performance increase over the 2080 for 70%. This MSRP is a 72% increase for an 8% gain (Only makes a difference at 4k anyways.) 10 Sereis > 30% = 40% Price increase 20 series > 15% = 70% Price increase. 30 series > 8% = 72% Price increase. They simply want more money and it's a shameless move for them to make. It is bad value and not a good product, and should never be bought. The 2080Ti was already known as being bad value, so a card that's even worse would, understandably, be even worse value. EDIT: I'd just like to clarify that the shortage doesn't really affect NVIDIA negatively, only from a PR standpoint. From a business standpoint, it gives them more money than they actually should receive because of demand not being able to be met. So that point is kinda invalid also.
Yeah, and there was also a note at the bottom that said the video was shot before they knew the MSRP, which sounds a little like a lie to me but what do I know.
The video misses a tag “Included paid Promotion" 3080TI is being sold for 4k$ USD and you can buy 6900XT for 2k$ USD with that information do the comparison again.
@@supersop1367 Do you realize that my comment is 1 month old? And at that time price for 3080TI was 4k$ USD in my country and 3090 went for 5k$ (tax inc.) 6900XT went for 2k$. Atm 6900XT still goes for 2k$, 3080TI 2.2k$ and 3090 goes for 3.5k$
@@dr_birb My point is that they already have problems producing 3060/70/80/90s. Having more scews in between to produce is not going to make the supply any better. They didn't really have to announce it now, it's just spitting in our faces when they clearly know they can't sell these to non-miners/scalpers atm.
GN Steve is right. A card that costs 70%+ more than the 3080 for less than a 10% improvement in performance is highway robbery. NVidia is just getting into the scalping game themselves, taking advantage of a totally dysfunctional market. At the end of the day, AMD's FSR is really the only thing most gamers actually have to look forward to in the near future; hopefully lots of game devs get on board with that.
@@NathansAirsoftAnd3D Oh, I know. That's why I'm not talking about this video, because the price reveal has basically made it irrelevant. And now everyone and their mom is calling Linus an NVidia shill. Poor guy, lol. Can't wait to see how they address this.
Gotta say, I'm surprised he's doubling down on this review now. I'm sorry, but who tf is this card for? People driving Ferraris to Micro Center? FFS, nobody asked for this thing. So many people are hurting out there, they're broke and they've got kids screaming for video games and NVidia's got nothing for them. Just absurd.
@@hollyc5417 indeed, gamers nexus have called it a waste of money for how much it costs as well, but how do they know what the price is but linus doesnt, sus
@@hollyc5417 In what way does that show that he's a shill...? Everything he stated about the card's performance before the price is still true, and they used the "sad" reaction after they could insert the actual price. I don't get the point you're making.
@@friedengilbert8067 it's only about 10% more performance than a regular 3080 for 500 dollars more. If anyone's looking for value for money they'd buy the $699 3080. And if anyone is looking for the absolute best they should buy the 3090. Anyone who can buy a $1200 dollar card would just pay $1500 for the double VRAM of the 3090.
It was intentional to generate them most clicks and make the most money. LTT are about generating revenue, they don't care about educating their audience. You watching a channel of product marketing and clickbait tiktok videos, not a tech channel.
Yep. And it starts to feel irrelevant with all those review of all the cards you can't buy. I gave up waiting for my ASUS 3080 with EK water block, I ordered in November, there will probably be a 4080 by the time they could deliver.
@@leolego2 The exact words are written by other writers but reviewed by Linus. However, the narrative and general consensus is directed by Linus himself
@@LapisPebble ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A-a-wzQPZfs.html Obviously you didn't watch the video. Literally in the intro it says they didn't know the MSRP when they made this video.
He will say "because we need to act quick, we have a big team, we didn't know msrp, things i said in video still true" etc. Reviewing any product without knowing price is bad journalism. I like ltt a lot but they become more Verge-like as they get bigger.
@@leolego2 that's not how it works. Both Nvidia and Ltt get their money by that nerds and we are just giving constructive feedback. We are ltt fans too, this is just a mistake.
@@jakekiedaisch2279 Did he give "good" reasons though? Linus compared the scalper 3080 prices to the MSRP of the 3080Ti to justify the price of the 3080Ti... In this video he admits that he has know idea what the MSRP would even be for the 3080Ti! How can Linus recommend that people purchase the 3080Ti in this video before he even knows the price?? Linus can't accept that he is wrong about anything.
This is definitely where LTT's higher production value bites them in the butt. GN had the more up to date info in their video since they're much less flashy but way more educational. LTT probably wouldn't have time to rewrite the review based on these scalping prices.
@@irishguy9001 agreed and you know what, I prefer the grittier feel of Steve's videos too. LTT has become more like TV and the whole reason I turned away from that is because it was all for show and no substance.
It's so funny to see how different Linus and Steven from GN are aproaching the review. Linus is happy to get a basicly 3090 for less and Steven bashes the card for being only 10%ish better than the 3080 but costs ~$400 more. I love it.
@@How23497 at MSRP the 3080Ti is 500$ more than the 3080 and 300$ less than the 3090, while compared to the 3090 its loosing half its RAM when only gaining 20% on the 3080. Yeah its a money grab. It isn't necessarly bad in the current climate. That depends, among others, on how NVIDIA handles it, whether it diverts more 3090s to it or more 3080s. And to be honest I don't at all trust Nvidias claims here, the fact that they're asking 1200$ for this card and have the balls to claim it's primarily to help gamers and not to increase their cut of the current market all but proves their motivation and likely strategy. It is, however, any way you put it, desastrous for the market after the current situation. Because the 3090 already saw Nvidia massively increase their profit span, without the 3090 having many of the traditional advantages of the Titans. The 3080Ti costs Nvidia almost the same to make as the 3080, but the consumer costs are far closer to the 3090. And that's not just Scalper prices, but Nvidia MSRP. Which means it'll continue to be a thing after the current situation, they obviously don't aim to reduce pricing after the current situation stops. If Nvidia were only trying to increase their cut in the current climate (which I'm actually somewhat okay with), they'd not increase their MSRP but they'd just hike the price they're selling the cards to their partners for.
I honestly don’t know why Steve is bitching about it, theres literally no chance were going to buy any of those cards for Msrp. I got my hands on 2 3070’s and I had to buy them at 3x MSRP after spending 6 months trying to buy them because I had no choice. It’s stupid
I think Linux is either an nvidia fanboy, or they paid him to scream "BUY THIS!" because EVERY OTHER review says don't buy it! Also "FSR Won't compete with DLSS" - Linus
FSR probably wont compete (on FPS) because DLSS uses separate cores which the Radeon doesn't have, just like it doesn't compete in ray tracing simply because it sacrifices time in the pipeline to do the ray tracing instead of having separate cores for just that.
We need to be very cautious with FSR, I agree that pure post process upscalers are usually pretty bad. If FSR doesn't include options for Checkerboarding then I will be disappointed.
@@dawkosvk I disagree. The 3080 launch MSRP matches the 2080 launch MSRP. The 3080 Ti FE launch MSRP matches the 2080 TI FE launch MSRP. NVIDIA targets pricing tiers, this generation is no different.
In his defence, compared to the RTX 3090 and RX 6900XT it's alright. These top-end cards have never been good value, but it makes no sense for the average gamer. The 3080 is the top-end card among the reasonably priced ones.
@@leonro No it isn't alright, that's what Nvidia wants you to compare it to because it's less of a SHIT deal in that case. 3090 was an atrocious deal for gaming for any normal person, it only got a pass for technically being the Titan of this gen. It only makes sense to compare the new GPU to the last reasonably priced flagship, the 3080. Even their initial planned $1000 would've been awful as anything over $800 for the pathetic boost in performance is theft. 1080 Ti was a $700 beast that was $100 more than the 1080 with a 30% performance uplift, while the 3080 Ti is right back to Turing levels of awful and probably even worse.
@@PleyVi Besides Nvidia who will be able to continue to extract as much money as possible from the market by basically making the 3090 slime edition, with less ram, so they will be able to maybe print those cards a little bit faster, im sure the move by Nvidia to make as much money as possible in the current market conditions was all well calculated, since they know regardless of performance, regardless of price, this will be about as much out of stock as all other cards right now.
@@reijhinru1474 The semiconductor shortage is not going to be anywhere near as bad as it is right now. The principle of regression to the mean all but guarantees that Lovelace will be significantly easier to obtain than current-gen cards.
@KingOfGorillas M1 can’t run games natively it can only emulate. For most tasks emulation is fine but gaming specifically will suffer a lot. Also the main concern isn’t whether it will run the games, but rather if the games will be on Mac OS to begin with.
