Should I Tighten An Axle Nut With An Impact? | Tech Minute 

I actully tightened it with both a impact hammer and torqe wrench. But you got a good point. Wish I saw it before hand but nothing bad happend to my car just yet.

Now he tells me... fuck it! Too late now!!!

I have asked several people if it was possible to over torque an axle nut to the point of damaging the CV. Everyone told me not possible(yet I still had a hunch they were wrong) thank you for this!

I recently did a wheel bearing and wheel hub replacement on my vehicle. Once i had everything else torqued down all that was left was to tighten down the axel nut, and i only screwed it in with my hand while in the air. I then lowered it with the wheels on the ground since i was told to torque when car is touching the ground. Was i supposed to use an impact gun to tighten in air first, then torque with wrench when on ground? And should i be concerned if my vehicle is unsafe to drive or if it’s dangerous since i did it wrong?

You can use the impact all day if you have the feel for it thru experience.

I'm Not Rich enough for a torque wrench that goes to 207 ft pound .I Cranked mine down with an impact gun .Then I pointed at it and said " TRUMP 2020 M.A.G.A on my 96 maximal and it has been fine so far ??

but why they are so tight that you need an impact gun to loosen it?

My axle nut is torque to 242 if i cant do it by hand, you bet your ass that im gonna do it with a impact

Been driving them on with my high torq for years. Never a problem.

no prof (so called) will follow this, time consuming

Flat out lie,can't fully torque the axle nut down.Can't do damage tightening the axle nut down with an impact
