12 Pro user here. Yeah man, you nailed it. I think I keep waiting for that big jump but it seems iPhone is so good at this point that every update has become incremental as opposed to earlier iPhone updates. I'm dyyyyin' for them to sell me on something new and next level. Great video as always. Cheers, man!
Nailed it. iPhones nowadays are just not getting big enough year-to-year jumps in features and performance to make upgrading every 2 years justifiable for most people. My 12 Pro is almost 3 years old, and runs like new with a fresh battery. Buy the best current model iPhone you can afford, look after it, and it’ll last you a good 5 years, so the yearly cost of ownership won’t be too high. Nice Submariner, BTW 😉
I had 12 pro max for almost two years then for two months I had the reg 14 and it felt like a downgrade…I got the 14 pro max and I love the performance so far and I did the bigger storage option …loving the camera
Yea I'm still on my XS Max and I was looking to upgrade this year, but there isn't a real reason anymore, it does everything I need (music, banking, capturing ideas, productivity) . I believe we hit peak smartphone when we went minimal bezel these last updates are superficial. Honestly feels good to get out of that year to year update mindset and I appreciate my device way more.
You make a lot of sense I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and I was going to upgrade to the 14 Pro max but I realised I only have to wait another 6 months and the 15 Pro max or Ultra will be released, I'm going to wait.
Agree completing having made the same upgrade. Wouldn't have done it without a generous trade in though. One thing I much prefer on the 14 Pro, is the screen quality, and tint. The 14 Pro white balance seems very similar to the X (almost slightly pinkish), whereas the 12 Pro had quite a strong yellow tint, that washed out colours a little, and felt like a step down from the X.
Currently have a 12 pro 256gb and upgrading to a 14 pro max 128. I don’t use the extra storage in these past 2.5 years. I would love a bigger screen and the extend battery life, the new camera and promotion just makes it a good upgrade for me. And I can still get a good amount of money for the 12 pro. So in the end, it’s a nice upgrade with a bit of extra pay.
I feel bad every time I purchase new electronics, so I try to hold on to my devices for as long as I can. Even though I love tech and work in tech, I view upgrading hardware more as a necessary evil than purely something to get excited about. (Thanks Greta Thunberg...) With Apple’s generous OS updates, an iPhone for me can easily last 4-5 years, with a battery change. Sitting on an iPhone 11th gen, I see no reason to upgrade besides superficial justifications like a slightly better camera. (I say superficial because I’m not a photographer.) The speed is not a concern, the 11th gen can easily handle any normal activity (I don’t do gaming on my phone).
Thanks. You definitely dissuaded me from upgrading. I think I'm programmed to always strive for the newest tech. But my iphone 12 pro is in great condition and does everything I need. Really the main reason I would upgrade is for 1TB storage, but I think I will make do with my 512gb. (I have a lot of apps and music on my phone). I'll hold out at least another couple of years I think, unless the 15 pro is somehow a mind-blowing difference, which I doubt.
Touch Bar tried to “fix” a problem no one had; no one minds having physical function keys. Dynamic island takes a necessary physical flaw with software. I’d still say the eventual goal is to have everything behind the display; but I think they might still have features from the island in the software when it’s needed.
My second phone is Iphone 4 from 2011 I believe. I mostly answer calls on it and not calling anyone nor browsing and etc. It's still on it's original battery, in a mint condition. I need to charge it once a week. Actually. it's form factor is kind of Iphone 12, but smaller. Still runnning great, everything works as it should.
Excellent analysis, but...could have done a better job explaining, demonstrating the "button" feature, and talking more about thickness and weight and waterproof rating?
I say most people can get away with older iphones for basic use. But as an enthusiast, I can't deal with iphones lagging yrs behind in features. We're going into the 4th gen of folding phones with Samsung and Apple still can't standardize charging ports across macs, iPad, and iphones?
Gf has just bought a pro max 14 and I’ve got my pro 12… glad to hear that it’s not THAT much different of an upgrade… shes also complaining her 14pro max is too big… so she’s slightly regretting going the extra size. She also is complaining the camera sticks out too far on the 14. Just glad I got her off the android train after a broken flip 4 screen 😭
lol so funny i just ordered a 14pro max to replace my 12 pro. but my reason was my moms phone died. So I am giving my mom my 12 pro. I doubt i will notice much of a difference but I know my new phone will be dependible for what i need.
I'm highly considering getting the iPhone 12 pro in mid-2023. Since it will be almost 3 years old by then, would you still recommend it going into 2024 and beyond? I'm not a professional photographer and don't really care about the new features of the 14 pro. And i usually keep my phone for 3 years.
Yes, unless you need that better battery life or cameras the software experience from the iPhone X onwards is all the same. Everything runs silky smooth on all these phones, plus you’ll save a couple bucks!
The display changes and battery life are plenty of an upgrade over the 12 pro not to mention the 12 series overheats alot….i had a regular 12 which is very similar to the 12 pro and now have a 14 pro and can confidently say these changes are very noticeable.
@fijiwill2237 you really noticed that the Iphone 14 Pro doesn’t overheat? I tried using my 12 Pro Max with the DJI 4 gimbal and it would stop recording due to overheating after 15 min shooting 4K. You think the Iphone 14 Pro Max doesn’t suffer from this problem. If so I would upgrade. ANYBODY ELSE KNOW ABOUT THIS?
Thank you for this video man I’m an iPhone fan since day 1 but I was forced to upgrade to this iPhone 12 Pro since my iPhone X cracked and didn’t change the glass on it. So I ended up with this 12 pro I love it but wish I would of gone with the 12 pro max lol I’ve never had a max and now like you said their isn’t BIG changes so it’s like why even upgrade. Plus this ended up pretty much free so I can’t complain right! Their mistake
As incremental as updates are in general these days, the iPhone 14 Pro differences are the biggest ones to iPhone since the iPhone X. So many people downplaying them and I'm not sure why. For me AOD is a gamechanger to how I use the phone and dynamic island is a paradigm shift, as physically small as it is. The camera, super bright pro motion display, those are big upgrades from the 12 Pro as well.
