In this video I will show you a comparison between ImagR and Da Big Gimpin plugin using passthrough and no passthrough.
When setting up images to engrave in Lightburn, you have the option to use Passthrough. This option uses the settings that the file was processed with either in ImagR or Gimp using Da Big Gimpin plugin.
I will walk you through processing the same image in both applications, import them into Lightburn, set them to use Passthrough and No Passthrough, engrave on a white canvas painted black and do a side by side comparison of the results.

Thank you for the information and excellent work! When you used the process with Gimp, you needed to turn off the negative image. This probably why it looked different from the others. Why do you use image-r dpi at 320 and Gimp at 600dpi? Would it be more comparable to have the same dpi? Again, thank you for your video and excellent work!!!

Using a higher dpi before exporting the image from gimp or imgr produces a better graphic. Using 320 in Lightburn keeps a good image quality but allows the image to engrave faster.

You should include an image done directly in Light Burn for comparison.

That’s already been done by a few people. This video came from requests to compare using and not using passthrough.

Sometimes I forget, bring pic in from Imagr and dont pass through and it comes out better..also it seems everytime I bring in black tile image from imagr, I have to also click negative in lightburn

I rarely use pass through if I set the image up in imagr. I will typically change to Jarvis, set dpi to 320 and it comes out better.

So you are just basically double processing it once with gimp(newspaper) and once with lightburn(jarvis) ? If I'm understanding you correctly, then it seems that someone who has the abilty, needs to make a better algorithm that combines these two?

Somewhat. It’s not exactly double processing. The newsprint option that the gimp plug-in applies does not yield great results as is using passthrough. I’m simply leaving the image as is just choosing Jarvis as the result is better. I’m not adjusting the image in Lightburn other than the image mode.
