nothing to do with that, India wants to retain the power it has to bully the ICC. If they allow their players to play in overseas leagues, it will marginally reduce their revenue share and ability to bully the ICC to get what they want

i would prefer to watch SA20 over hundred 1) SA20 starts at 8.30 pm in india hundred starts at 11pm 2) quality foreign players available in the league 3) i will watch womens hundred because of indian players and prime time in india 7.30pm. BCCI wont allow indian players because if indian players play in the other leagues ,we might face situation like we are facing with ishan kishan right now and if indian players play broadcasting rights of the league will rise,sponsorships will be more,if you allow that to happen boards will restrict their players to play IPL and other leagues, then value of ipl becomes less, so when you have power keep it with you , when others had it they didnt helped you .

The comments section seems to be filled with newbie Indian fans. They don't seem to know about County Championship, Sheffield Shield etc. Every test playing nation today has non-franchise domestic leagues, but they don't stop their cricketers from playing franchise leagues around the world. This point about protecting Ranji or VHT or SMAT by stopping cricketers from playing abroad is ridiculous. Let our players be free to ply their trade around the world, let them earn what they deserve, at least start with allowing players aged 30+ to go do that.

@@SAFFRONINFERNO what does "we" mean? For you, does Indian cricket only mean the 30-odd cricketers that are on the fringe for national selection? And if that's the case, aren't you still living in the 90s? Cricket is a profession today. An Indian cricketer that doesn't get picked in the IPL auction should have just the same employment opportunities as the Australian cricketer that isn't selected in the BBL draft, or the Pakistani cricketer who isn't picked in the PSL draft. There are hundreds, if not thousands of guys that are still not able to make ends meet by playing cricket professionally.

My brain's evolution is just fine. You open up the borders, allow our cricketers to learn new skills from around the world, earn their bread and butter from playing cricket professionally full time. Deep, Blast starts at 11pm, Men's Hundred at 11:30 pm minimum. So, the only viable T20 tournaments for Indian viewers at night: LPL (same time zone), PSL (8 pm), SA20 and ILT20 (8-8:30 pm). MLC is at 6 am, so decent amount of viewership is there, not bcoz of timing, but franchises, which Indians like to watch, like MI and CSK.

IPL relies a lot on regionalism and loyalty of fans to individuals and teams. If a prominent Indian player, plays in other leagues, that kind of defeats the whole purpose. Also, isn't is crazy that one player playing for several leagues? Its like Ronaldo or Messi playing for RM/Barca and some other franchise in other leagues too, lets say Arsenal. How crazy would that have been? I know it is happening in other leagues and nations, but that's now how long term loyalty is built with fans.

Apples and Oranges. Franchise leagues in cricket are very different from club football. International football doesn't take priority outside of WCs and continental tournaments like the Euros, club football is the real deal. Thus, a Messi is a club's asset for he plays 9 months a year for them. I'm sure no one wants to see IPL being a 9-month long league, and India playing only a handful of matches the whole year. With that in mind, a cricketer should be allowed to play as many leagues as they want, to earn their livelihoods. It's not only the 30-odd contracted players that we should worry about, we should also think about the thousands of cricketers who should be allowed to flourish professionally.

@@imviiku I hate bilateral limited overs cricket with a fiery passion. But what you seem to not understand is, bilaterals will not disappear by themselves. All international cricket is at risk, including test matches. Cricket boards earn a lot, lot more by playing bilaterals than by participating in the nostalgia-inducing Sharjah Cups. Why do you think we haven't had any non-ICC multi-country tournaments in the last ten years, apart from Asia Cup which is a dying tournament in itself?

@@shashankjha8851 LOL EVEN A 3RD GRADE TOURNAMENT LIKE NIDHAS TROPHY IN SL BROUGHT THEM A WINDFALL The reason why such tournaments don't exist anymore is due to a packed schedule plus addition of WTC cycle in to it International Cricketers play approximately 280/320 days of cricket every year

In the IPL, all Indian players and best overseas players compete for 2 months and that makes it special The Big bash & Hundred are mediocre because contracted players themselves avoid their franchise tournaments due to international duty. However, Big bash & hundred have always tried to be revolutionary and brought in a lot of rule changes for good of cricket

Its not just the money which counts. Aussies and English are comfortable in Indian conditions because they play IPL. If the players play in county, hundred or sa20, it will be helpful for their own good. This helps Indian national team as well.

Jarrod is slightly unaware here, about how Indian market works. Kohli goes to franchise, fans go with him. Same with dhoni, rohit, etc. Its not the cricket, not the IPL, not the team, its the players that sell here. If other franchises are not close now, they will be when Indian players join them.

It's totally opposite, and makes no sense at all. Except the last WC50, All home team won the tournament starting from 2011. Even in 2023 WC India was in the final. Your statement proves nothing at all. Also, India won T20WC without playing CPL or MLC in WI or USA. And teams who played those leagues like mine (Pak) had to leave the tournament in first stage only.

Agree it would be high. But to make cricket big , Europe and America needs atleast one world class stadium. Barring England , none of cricket playing nation have proper stadium . Match viewing experience is really bad , just have a look at recently conducted Aus vs Scotland series . This all is 5 years project with cricketing facilities available to host big matches . If anyone doesn't understand why country's board should own the player than a T20 franchise, it is because if a team outside MI, with their deep pockets was to own a player for 4 tournaments, if that player gets injured, they might not be the best people to help the player in recovery and coming into full fitness, which a board would maintain. A franchise might like to push him before he becomes fully fit, because they want to see X player in their UAE team winning that match/league at 60%-80% fitness.

Ideally they should, but there's just no room in the calendar, and the players will die of exhaustion if they play anymore. Better for them to stick to Domestic cricket + IPL + International Cricket as a general rule for now. Those who haven't made it fully to the Indian team though or those who are too old (U23 or 35+), I think they should be given NOCs by the board to play other leagues around the world to get a different experience and give them more financial opportunities.

India and cricket is very soon going to be analogous with USA and Basketball. There are some countries interested in the sport, but there are no international tournaments as such apart from the Olympics. It's all about NBA. With the way it's going, with Indian fans being ignorant about how BCCI is murdering the international game, just being cheerleaders of the bullies and thinking India = BCCI, international cricket will not survive outside of India, Australia and England in the next 10 years. Come 2050, Cricket will be mostly a franchise run sport. Today's average keyboard-warrior, happily immature ICT fan will be in their 40s and 50s, not caring about the sport, whilst kids born today will not know about South Africa and New Zealand and Pakistan, they'll just care about MI and CSK and RCB. IPL will be played 8 months a year, and just like the Americans call the baseball series as the World Series, but only US and Canada play in it, we'll do the same with cricket in two and a half decades.

Ty god Deepdas is not in any management role as he take decision in emotionally not logical . I would prefer Jarod who is logical . Simple nobody would like to play for 100k when he can get 800k staying at home . Kevin didn’t only came for exposure he came first money too . Sehwag has answered this beautifully though he sounded arrogant . But he was right . The amount of money in IPL contract is one thing , player get per match fees , even a youngster who get contracted for $24k. Can earn $120k if he play all 14 games in IPL . In my opinion, bcci will not let their player play other leagues. Think about this, there is a lot of controversy going on with sanju samsons selection. If bcci let him or others like him play in other leagues, it will be very difficult to control players. And player even think abt early retiremnt from international crickt and concentrate on league cricket

We should protect our national side players, they should only play IPL as of now and national side that's it. Don't see a requirement for them to play other leagues in terms of money or experience of conditions. They get money from ipl and experience of different conditions can be gained by touring for bilateral series and if they want some more experience they can move early for series to adjust to conditions.

Retired players should be allowed atleast. Players over 35 who are retired should be allowed to play ipl and other leagues.

I am saying if one retires after 35 or BCCI informs someone that they are not going to be picked for indian team anymore then they should be allowed to play IPL as well as other leagues because that player gains nothing from playing domestic anymore. Like shikhar dhawan... He cannot play other league's because he wants to play IPL but there's no point for him to play domestic.

There is no upside of Indian players playing in the other leagues. What it would do is, it would devalue the IPL by taking away the novelty. So basically filling up the coffers of these other leagues and their boards who have done nothing. These boards cannot afford to pay anywhere near the money. So no monetary benefit, infact loss. In terms of sporting reasons. India pretty much dominates everyone in T20's at their home as well. So not huge upside there as well. Net negative huge loss for IPL and BCCI with infinite upside for other leagues.

A one sime formula can be serived ...suppose 1000 player. Are rher foe ipl thwn out of that some percentage avilable for other tiurnamnet lets say 30 % for that year and lets rotate next year for other 60 percent .make a lottery system by which a fixed percnetage of player will be avilable each year

@viansingh1825 It’s not about the size of the league; it’s about player participation. Most marquee international players take part in the big leagues, including the IPL, but the exclusion of Indian players doesn’t reflect well. I’m sure allowing Indian players to participate in other leagues would help those leagues grow significantly as well.

This is one of the reasons why there is no chance of developing the game outside of India. You want several worldwide leagues that are lucrative and will make other countries money, but India and their cricket board don't want that. They're holding down other cricket leagues to put the IPL on a pedestal
