Shelagh Fogarty and Jon Sopel break down the first TV debate from America between Donald Trump and incumbent President Joe Biden ahead of November's US election.
Biden, 81, and Trump, 78, clashed on a variety of issues, but it was the US President's rambling and at times incoherent performance which took centre stage on Thursday night.
He appeared to forget what he was trying to say on several occasions, and at times spoke incomprehensibly - with his own Democrat colleagues expressing deep concern in the aftermath.

Looking ahead, it's too late to rerun the Democratic Primaries, two of the four candidates have withdrawn, so if Biden does too, Marianne Williamson is the only candidate standing. Robert F Kennedy Jr, a Democrat running as an Independent, is also a candidate

@@superspeed221Doesn't matter, in the last year or so it's clear his faculties are in decline and I wouldn't be shocked to find out most of the work of the president has been done by those around him. He's still the best choice but I think a lot of people are gonna struggle to go out and vote with him in charge. He should step down and support a candidate with similar goals who is in their prime.

It’s like when RBG wouldn’t resign, it shouldn’t have been her choice, she should have had her hand forced. It shouldn’t have ever been Biden’s choice to go for a second term, the party should have had an alternative candidate in place and could have operated from a position of strength, now it’s a plea to the American people to just not vote Republican.

This man is correct in saying US politics is different from Britain. There are only 2 ways that Joe Biden can be stopped from running. He has to agree to do this OR he is dead or completely incapacitated (as in a coma). Delegates at a convention are pledged to vote for their candidate on the first ballot. They cannot change their mind unless the candidate releases them by not running. Biden has a huge majority of the delegates.

Get “first ladies” and “first men” out of politics. No one selected or elected them. In fact the whole concept of a “first lady/man” should be abolished. one way to do this is to NOT allow the president’s family to live in the same building as where they work. They are not running a corner shop. Likewise partners should not attend major international meetings like G7, NATO summits, state visits etc.

Trump will decline another debate with Biden, and he will express his compassion for not putting old Joe through that again. You contemplate Newsom or Whitmer as the replacement. Consider that feelers have been advanced to Kennedy who is the only Dem (declared now as Independent) who can possibly beat Trump.

There is still zero chance that a woman will be elected in the US for at least another generation. You'd be amazed at how many women in America don't believe a woman can be President, and not just conservative women.
