Thank you for this needed encouragement. My wife and I decided to avoid Halloween but most everyone we've talked to don't seem to think much about it. My wife and I coming from an occult past don't take it lightly.
I love Metropolitan Jonah. He has the same opinion as I do but he articulated it much better. I ESPECIALLY love the part where he says that "demons are real." They really are, and dressing up as them does not help.
0:00 Halloween was an old Pagan New Year from The Celts. 0:35 The idea was that ghosts/demons were let out on Samhein. 1:06 Halloween has always been - A pagan festival - A demonic festival - something developed specifically with The Celts. 1:31 Halloween was tame 30-40 years ago, Kids dressing up and going to get candy 1:47 Halloween has become more Occult/Demonic. 2:05 Don’t celebrate Demons. 2:53 - Demonic Sacrifice - Demonic Dress-Up 3:53 Some places do nasty things to children on Halloween. 4:33 The Church ☦️ ⛪️ has Feast Days every day. 5:31 Demons are real. Demons are nothing to play with. 6:07 Metropolitan Jonah Paffhausen used to live in San Fransisco, which combined - Occult Evil with - Raunchy stuff 7:00 It’s ok to give Halloween Candy 🍬 to kids, participation runs the risk of putting kids in danger ⚠️ 8:22 Not celebrating a festival is not = to withdrawing altogether from society.
Thanks for the reminder,👍 of putting a proper categorical perspective on a pagan holiday!🎃 These pagan holidays that are celebrated, are a metaphorical representation of what's really going on in the dark occult and unseen world.
I completely agree, especially with the last point he made. As a former witch obsessed w the occult, saved by Jesus. The demonic is normalized at a young age in our culture, seeds are planted, it becomes fascinating & when kids rebel as a teenager they’re naturally drawn in that direction esp if there are mixed messages of “we take our faith seriously” but at the same time not taking the demonic realm seriously/acting like it’s just fairy tales. Same with Santa Clause. Plants the seed of confusion & doubt
I have always disliked Halloween. But I think it can definitely be subsumed and transformed as rather a remembering of the dead or a celebration of light's victory over darkness/Christ's victory over demons. Sort of an anti-halloween. Still...not a fan as it stands.
This demonic annual event should be avoided by all, especially if you’re of Christian faith. Please don’t go anywhere near it, or participate in it. Please do your best to keep away from it. God bless. ✝️🙏🏻
I have heard this thing in Mexico called "The day of the dead". It seems like the kind of thing I personally think Halloween should be. I know it is a mainly Catholic tradition, but nonetheless Christian. It basically celebrates the dead and has no darkness involved.
Yes, I live in southern Arizona and the true day of the dead celebrations are beautiful, again not my cup of theological tea, but Nothing like demonic Halloween.
Thank you Father. My opinion is that the best outcome for Orthodox Christians and really everyone else who believes in Christ is to take back this holiday. If we condemn it or pretend it doesn't exist it is lost but if we give real and lasting alternatives to what is now called Halloween we will make and keep Christians. The history behind Halloween is as complicated as well, history often is. However it must not be forgotten that the name sake and intention of the day is the beginning of Hallowtide. While this is more of a western Christian tradition the Orthodox Churches in America can seize this opportunity to give real authentic spirituality to people which is what many are actually craving during this time.
No😵💫 rev 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” Have nothing to do with darkness, we are children of the light. God doesn’t take these things lightly, you just have to read all the times He poured out His wrath on people in the OT for indulging in idolatry, paganism, and all sorts of evil.
@@lauramatos1181"He poured out His wrath on people in the OT for indulging in idolatry, paganism, and all sorts of evil." None of which the holiday was or needs to be.
God bless you father you speak the truth! Greetings from Greece we dont celebrate Halloween.. at least we didnt in the past decades but now its ''tradition'' is slowly but steadily spreading here as well...i have thought in the past that Halloween is of demonic nature and wondered why people celebrate this and i always wanted to hear the opinion of a holy man from the united states and i finally got to through your video! Ofc Orthodox faith is not representing the vast majority of christians in America but make no mistake it is the one true faith. Lord Jesus Christ son of god have mercy on me a sinner , Most holy Theotokos save us!
Stopped participating in it years ago but I take the opportunity of it to help my aging grandma give out candy because she adores seeing the young kids in the actually cute outfits and stuff
I've thought of it as the same as Christmas for atheist, but in reverse. Is an atheist who decorates a tree, has people over for a meal and to open presents, but never lifts a single thought to Christ, truly celebrating Christmas? In the same way, if your daughter dresses up like a princess and knocks on the neighbors door for some candy, are they truly celebrating Halloween? There are certainly dark influences and practices surrounding Halloween and the hunted houses a evil, gory costumes are definitely a no-go in my opinion. Just my .02¢ (which probably isn't even worth that).
I'd appreciate peoples' thoughts please. My mum bought some chocolates to give to kids trick or treating. I told her not to give them out, to avoid participating in paganism. She agreed not to, but has since eaten the chocolates herself. Did she eat tainted food (because she originally bought them for halloween) or were the chocolates ok because she never actually used them for halloween? Thank you. P.S. At the time I wrote the above, I hadn't gotten to 7:15 in the video, where his grace said it was ok to give sweets to the kids, just not to dress up and the like. That's noteworthy and yet if anyone would still like to say something on this, I'd be happy to read what it is.
Hi Vasily, Your mother was just trying to please the children with candy and when you pointed out she was unknowingly engaging in a pagan holiday, she didn’t participate in the holiday. She ate some chocolate; that is all! It is good you are vigilant and protective of your mother’s spiritual life, but try not to be scrupulous. That’s just my personal take! Jim
Hi Jim. Thanks so much for this. What you say is reasonable and, you're right, I suffer with the OCD scrupulous thing. It's nice to have it clarified for me in this instance; I often can't tell it apart. Thanks, again.
Halloween is about celebrating the dead. We celebrate our Holy Saints who are alive with Christ. It is a clear opposite. If someone comes to my door asking for something, I don't deny them, so we will give the children a treat. No twix or Doritos... Their commercials are disgusting. My one daughter likes to dress up but we do not allow most costumes. She is just wearing a dress and bonnet like an 1800's pioneer girl. Dressing as a saint would be much better. And also, no leftover candy on fasting days!
@@angelwings3128 I understand that completely. These are things I discuss with my husband a lot, so I follow his decisions on them. Not sure it's the right one, but also don't want neighbors to think we are so pious we are looking down on them either. We recently moved and don't have a local spiritual Father here. So I follow my husband's lead. I know of cases children leave the Church because it was too much. I want my daughter to love the Church and follow the rules with joy instead of resentment. It's not easy. You might be right, though, I still feel conflicted but obey my husband.
I’m orthodox but I love decorating for Halloween and stuff I don’t think of Halloween as a devil holiday just as a cozy fall day is that ok? I also like horror movies and creepy stuff
