@@PhilBaxter not necessarily true lots of retro game collectors do not have a Saturn a collection. Most people growing up didn’t have one or even know someone who had one. It’s niche in a niche hobby.
@@champiion I think many retro game fans discovered the Saturn after its demise. So it's not so much about nostalgia so much as just playing games on a system with an amazing 2D library of games. It's a system which has in many ways aged the best of its generation.
@@GovernmentOfAmerica when the original Wii released, it basically had a GameCube built into it. It was backward compatible with the GC minidiscs, and it had 4 GC controller ports and a couple memory card slots hidden under the top flip cover. If you had a Wii, you didn't really need to keep the GC around because it became redundant (unless you needed to use one of the GC add-ons that attached to the bottom of the console).
@@mj.ray0898 the Wii itself is basically 2 GameCubes stuck together hardware wise it could play GameCube discs natively, accepted both controllers and even had some GameCube games ported over to Wii with added motion controls. It uses the same architecture for its processors as the GameCube so when it goes into GameCube mode it just lowers the speed to mimic the GameCube Recently picked up a wavebird to use for Mario kart and to play GameCube games with nintendont
Nintendo: 1) 3DS plays all DS. 2) DS plays all Gameboy Advance. 3) Gameboy Advance plays all Gameboy and Gameboy Colour games. 4) Gameboy Colour plays all Gameboy Games. 5) Wii plays all Gamecube games. 6) WiiU plays all Wii games. 7) Gamecube plays all Gameboy Advance games. 8) Super Nintendo plays all Gameboy and Gameboy Colour Games. Nintendo has done tons... Yet you only mention 3DS? You can't even name the 3-coloured analogue cable... Hint: It's called RCA.
Yes. Did it take this long to take this seriously? Upscale every old Xbox and Playstation game and then make them available on current gen consoles. What a concept.
Nintendo has always been great about backwards compatibility. From the GameCube to the Wii U we were good and the 3DS could play all the way back to original DS games made in 2007. The issue with Nintendo is that they make genuinely new hardware every couple of generations as opposed to Sony and Microsoft who always make a disc based console.
I mean, yeah. They've done cartridges and discs as well. GC to Wii U were disc based, and the Switch and on will be cartridge but they could definitely go back to discs one day too.
Those days are over. Nintendo doesn’t even want people to make captures cards for old hardware. They are all in on NSO but don’t want to feed people like Virtual Console for some reason.
Imagine that, I would pay a lot for a console that can play Ps2 and Ps1 games natively, same with a Wii & NGC and an Xbox OG and a 360, as well as a Analogue Pocket DS.
Whilst the Playstation is the obvious next choice, the Sega Saturn should be the next choice. It's a system much closer to the hearts of collectors with its vast library of Japanese exclusives, and crucially a lot of 2D games which have aged like fine wine.
Everyone is repeatedly forgetting the Atari 5200 originally had 4 controller ports way back in 1982. Funny enough I got a hold of one in need of repair as the 3D was announced. As I worked on it today, I couldn't help but stare at the 4 ports and laugh at Analogue's incorrect marketing and the media making the same mistake claiming N64 was the first. I'm excited for the 3D though.
Last I checked paper contracts we're still legally binding. There is no reason why the fact that they are not digital contracts would prevent you from re-releasing a game for modern audiences.
To be fair .... Nintendo has supported backwards compatibility quite alot and I think many people forget. Gameboy advance - gameboy Ds - gameboy advance 3ds - ds Wii- gamecube Wii u - wii. And virtual console but yes they never carried our purchased games over. But id argue they have done it more than other companies if you really think about it.
I have thought it would be a power move for companies to re-release updated versions of old consoles. Like I would love for Nintendo to release a modern super Nintendo. It would be cool for Indy studios to make modern games for retro systems .
So now we have a situation where new consoles have so few games without being remaster or sequels, we now have legitimate interest in essentially doing remaster of entire consoles. Things are really getting repetitive, it's insane.
The Playstation 1 hardware is still very easy to obtain and with a simple scart cable and conversor to HDMI, you get a very decent image. The only big advantage fo an Analog version of the console, would be running games from backup media like burned DVDs, for example, as burning good-quality CDs is not that easy nowadays. But that would be on piracy side, that I do not think would be nice as a reason for making the console at all.
A ps1 and ps2 combo would be nice if it's done right. Put some games on a hdd for the retro system in question, and give the option to add games via downloading files from the internet or files on a usb drive. While the Panasonic 3DO wasn't terribly popular, I wouldn't mind seeing it come back via retro HD console, just add an hdd and it should be OK.
Why can't Microsoft patch something in the Xbox so you can use an external hard drive to read a disc, that would preserve games longer when the future console becomes all digital
There is one way to cancel yourself out any old school platform, weather its the ps3, Switch or the Xbox one. Just get ypurself a huge 75" tv. I promise you, nothing from those eras will look any good on your 4k/8k tv. The only one that can be saved is the switch oled, if you get the 4K gamer pro HDMI dongle, your tv will think it's at least a 4K signal and it will look amazing, if you turn off the bells and whistles on your tv.
since ps1 emulation is basically perfect I wouldn't bother. PS2 emulation is pretty damn great and og Xbox emulation is getting better. I wouldn't even bother with physical retro consoles. whatever own is whatever I own
Donkey Kong 64 for me. Had the game when i was a kid. King K Rool beat me 100 or so times near the end, and i never rolled credits. I am coming back for him in that boxing ring. 😂
SEGA needs the Analogue treatment. Sony should have made the PS5 Optical Drive compatible to read/run PS1,2,3,4,5 with all the chipsets on the drive. That way when it comes to PS6 you can continue with your library. Or give other tech manufacturers the right to build the drives. Kind of like vinyl record players.
If they ever do Playstation and xbox they should definitely add on wifi for online play. Especially the fact that Insignia is brought OG xbox live back to life.
I have a question I'm not seeing with this analogue 3D console. Can you save your game progress, stream gameplay, and don't have to keep sticking in your game (meaning preserving the game by download/install of the game, playing it with no cartridge in the game) with the new analogue 3D?
I bought 3 used OG Xbox consoles last year. One was a refurbished one that I had to have the seller send me a replacement disk drive for, the other two were a bundle where one was supposed to work and the other did not. The one supposed to work, I had to order a replacement disk drive on eBay, the other Xbox needed a new board (which I knew) but once it was running, I found it ALSO needs a new disk drive. The prices on those 20+ year old drives are getting higher and higher so I just SoftModded the third Xbox and put a giant HDD in it to copy games over to. I would EASILY drop $200-250 on a NEW machine that could run my Xbox library. Ideally, Microsoft would allow for full, or as full as possible backwards compatibility and I could use my Series X for all of those old games, but otherwise, we need an option. Those old disk drives are dying more and more every day.
The NES and PlayStation and Xbox experiences were the best of my lifetime. Sega and Turbographyx 16 just didn’t have enough great, affordable and available games for me. NES, PS and Xbox were flooded with great games. And then there was the variety. On Xbox/PS I had dancing games, music games… Now it’s just First person shooters or lazy RPG.
Inching ever closer to an analogue GameCube! I like what I see with this Analogue 3D! I’m very excited to see how they would redo a GameCube! Great Stuff, as always!
Imagine Xbox / Sony creating a parallel to the analogue 3D and being able to play the original Silent Hill 3 with the original voice acting and audio before the HD Collection disaster.
Analog needs to sponsor game jams for Analog 3D games. Give players a reason to come back to retro other than "You can play Goldeneye! (for the thousandth time)"
I'd immediately buy a new N64 that can be hooked up on a modern TV at 4K. I'd love to play, wcw/nwo revenge, No mercy, Shadow of the empire, Pilot Wings 64 among other titles. A new modern PS2 that can play all ps1 and ps2 discs would also be glorious. So many gems and classic games to revisit. It's too bad I don't think it will ever happen though.
Would love a Nintendo 64 unit that on it's own comes with say, 50 of the best games and plays just like you have the cartridge plugged in, and the ability to add a lot more. Same for Saturn, Dreamcast, Ps1, Ps2, Ps3 and the original X-box.
@@Owen-zn3db you can do that with an ever drive, it's basically an r4 from the DS but for N64. It's a single cartridge and you load games on a micro SD.
Sony and Microsoft just need to make (or team up with someone to make) a "new" console, that is in the shape of a Ps2, that can just read old Ps2 and Ps1 games. And obviously, an Xbox shaped console that reads old Xbox games. You dont have to go get any licenses, cuz its their hardware, so it beats them needing to do that. And everyone can just put their discs in and play. The amount of money id spend on something like that is unfathomable.
An Analogue Playstation and Sega Saturn would be cool but I think the PS is more likely. An original Xbox in FPGA isn't going to happen. That system had a Pentium 3 and a GeForce 3 based GPU.
@DMC_Ryan "So just how far down do you want to go And we could talk it out over a cup of Joe And you can look deep into my eyes Like I was a super-model Uh-huh" Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
IGN website is such a MESS, really glad they post on youtube. The video streaming is attrocious and the website keeps forcibly detecting my ip address to switch region when i dont want it to.
Xbox can't unless you're willing to pay $1000 for an Analogue FPGA system. The more logic elements an FPGA has the more it costs. For the N64, Analogue had to use a 220k LE Altera Cyclone 10GX, for their previous consoles Analogue used a 49k Cyclone V.
Probably? But the only issue with making use of the thing is buying ps1 games is almost as bad as N64, if not worse when certain games are in the conversation
I still have my 64 and all my games. If this improves framerates and the controller is better, I'm sold. The 64 controller and sub 24fps is the only reason I don't boot up the 64 more. The games are better on cartridge than on Nintendo Online service.
Ill be waiting on a review first. N64 i played the least. Was busy with study's. Does it connect to the HD TV? HDMI? Does it connect to the old TV's? Hopefully 100% capability with games and carts of the sorts. They should put that stuff on pc already.
Wouldn't it have been great if the PS5 had the necessary hardware to have full-backwards compatibility with previous generation games ... ya know ... like Xbox does!
Nintendo did have backwards compatibility for previous generations like GB to GBA, GBA to DS, DS to 3DS, GameCube to Wii & Wii to WiiU. Also, Xbox backwards compatibility does not work with all games which I thought they did. I have Xbox and Xbox 360 games that the Series X does not play. Sony was struggling to make a profit when the OG fat PS3 came out. That's why they had to take off backwards compatibility to cut costs, and to encourage people to play PS3 games. I hated the fact that Sony did that but it worked for them financially.
Hello, but even though they are making a new Nintendo 64 sort of console game sort of thing so we can go back to old school so what does software is it gonna be slow or would it be a little bit more faster?
Don’t they already have a system out that plays PS, Saturn, and XBox games? I have the original Nintendo with an HD connector. I also have a Steam Deck. This isn’t really worth it, for me. But if you have a lot of N64 games, it might work for you.
nintendo has allowed backwards compatibility at least a little from the start. like gba allowing GB and GBC and even GC playing GBA, Wii playing GC...not too bad
Ryan come on man, Xbox backwards compatibility program os based on a drm system. The physical game all it does is activate a key to download the game from the server. That's no preservation, that giving the false idea of preservation. What happens when xbox shuts down the servers of those downloads? You put the disc on your xbox and nothing happens, so you didn't preserve nothing. With Analogue you are preserving the hardware, since fpga will make the machine act exactly like original hardware. Considering the games everyone knows we can't count on any corporation to preserve them, we all have to get them any way we can and store them. That's just how it is.
