Should Ross Stores Refuse Assistance To Blind Customers? Ross In Brea Did! #Blind

I am totally blind, and even though I usually go to clothing stores by myself and walk around to “see” things with my hands, I always end up needing help from the store to figure out prices, sizes and to find those things that are almost impossible to figure out! This time I decided to go to a different Ross Dress For Less in a different city, and they did not provided with any help, and didn’t even want to walk me to find the area that I was looking for…OMG, they were totally clueless on how to help me find the cash register and the exit on my way out… I believe they focussed on the blindness, and forgot that the main focus in these locations is “the customer…”

My dear Anna, I know exactly what you felt. And that’s the reason why in Greece we started Black Light social enterprise, in order to train Store staff serving blind and visually impaired customers. Don't stop making videos like this. greetings from Athens, Chrysella

Anna, I'm sure this was frustrating. I'm not making excuses as I myself am an advocate for blind/visually impaired services. As someone who worked retail for many years as a fully sighted person, they may not have had the resources and/or proper training on how to help you. I worked for a big box store and I can tell you it's something I never came across in my former career. You handled the situation with dignity and grace. I would definitely call and speak to the store manager or maybe set up a meeting in person. If that is not taken seriously go up the chain and advocate for all of us. You knkw as well as I do how uninformed people are on blind/visually impaired life. Keep up the good work. I always appreciate your videos and enjoy going on adventures with you!

Hello my friend. I would find out where Ross is headquartered and report this to them. Then let the NFB and ACB know as well. Personally, I think it sucks. Someone could have at least made an effort! You take care.

I tend to really enjoy shopping at Ross. They are affordable with a cool selection. But this is unacceptable. They didn't have anyone to help? There must have been *something* they could have done. I am an educator and an advocate for disability inclusion, and I'm wondering if there is an opportunity to resolve this problem. Maybe we team up and show them how it's done. I will reach out to you privately to see if you're interested. All retailers need to be inclusive. All spaces need to be inclusive. Thank you for sharing this!!!!!! - Dominique
