@bettyboopsie9836 discrimination is discrimination whether native American, Asian, Black etc, don't think anyone should put a monetary value on it. What happens if these people want more when they blow through it, it's a bad precedent to set 👎
There have been several government policies throughout history that disproportionately excluded or disadvantaged black Americans, limiting their access to wealth-building opportunities. Here are a few examples: 1. Slavery and Jim Crow laws: Slavery itself was a government-sanctioned institution that denied black Americans their freedom and economic opportunities. Even after the abolition of slavery, the implementation of Jim Crow laws enforced racial segregation and perpetuated systemic inequalities. 2. Redlining: In the 1930s, the Home Owners' Loan Corporation (HOLC) implemented a practice known as redlining, which systematically denied mortgage loans and financial services to predominantly black neighborhoods. This discriminatory practice hindered black Americans' ability to purchase homes and build equity, contributing to long-term wealth disparities. 3. Discriminatory lending practices: In the mid-20th century, practices such as "racial zoning" and "restrictive covenants" prevented black Americans from buying property in certain areas. Additionally, discriminatory lending practices, such as predatory lending and racial bias in mortgage lending, further limited black Americans' access to credit and fair loan terms. 4. Exclusion from New Deal programs: Some New Deal programs implemented during the 1930s, such as the Social Security Act and the National Labor Relations Act, initially excluded agricultural and domestic workers-occupations predominantly held by black Americans. These exclusions limited access to crucial social safety nets and worker protections. These policies and practices, among others, contributed to the racial wealth gap and hindered black Americans' ability to accumulate wealth and access economic opportunities. ✂️👉🏾✅

In 2005, JP Morgan Chase, currently the biggest bank in the US, admitted that two of its subsidiaries - Citizens' Bank and Canal Bank in Louisiana - accepted enslaved people as collateral for loans. If plantation owners defaulted on loan payment the banks took ownership of these slaves. JP Morgan was not alone. The predecessors that made up Citibank, Bank of America and Wells Fargo are among a list of well-known US financial firms that benefited from the slave trade.

I live in California. It’s already been promised. If black people asked for equity based on what most white American wants, black people would still be living in 80% poverty, educated by inferior outdated text books, and legally banned from voting in the segregated South.
Simple question but why is nobody asking for reparations from the people that actually enslaved these people and sold them into the slave trade, I find it strange that this is never mentioned and black African Americans seem to just accept and are even proud of their African brothers whose ancestors enslaved them in the first place, It is odd when you think about it particularly with the amount of hatred towards whites for simply being white. Why is there never any mention of reparations for the direct descendants of the white people that fought in the civil war to end slavery particularly those that were killed for the cause and why don't Black Americans love these same decedents instead of thinking that they are the enemy
@dorothywashington In what world would someone pay for what they haven't done to people that it wasn't done to. The people you want to pay are the decedents of those that fought and died for freedom. Reparations are a joke and making a division and by the way check your history those Africans that had been enslaving other Africans for hundreds of years before a white man had even seen Africa knew exactly what they were doing, guess they just wanted a bit of money for nothing, ring any bells ??????
It's interesting that there is 2 black people representing opposite sides when the vast majority of black people are on the same side on the issue. The disagreement is between black and white. Let this be a lesson on how they do things.
It shouldn't be a disagreement between blacks and whites. It was black Africans that sold fellow black Africans into slavery. First point of call for reparations is Africa.
Of course black people are on the side of more free stuff without having to earn it 😂 Fun fact: only 8-10% of black Americans have slave ancestors the rest came after slavery was ended. Only 3% of America owned slaves out of that 3% over 7,000 slave owners where black. Out of the 2 million slaves in America at the time over 300,000 of them were white. Sadly, the "normal" involved is boundless greed and corrupted government that is providing "oversight" of greedy corporations. These specific aspects of that come to mind: Companies have been underpaying for assets taken from public lands ... legally "stealing" from taxpayers when, in fact, much more of the profits from use of public assets should be used to pay government expenses. More recently it has become even more obvious than ever that fuel companies have been price gouging, with increased fuel charges having a domino effect on prices across the entire economy resulting in inflation. Businesses have "unions" (though, generally they oppose for workers) ... it's just that business "unions" are called "trade associations" instead. This includes financial institutions. Banks, that get money from the supposed government/private "partnership" of "the Fed" at a very nominal interest rate meet to CHOOSE to inflate their profit, gouging individual and business consumers and increasing the inflation. Monopoly and near monopoly. The greediest of the wealthiest pursue monopoly because controlling supply enables the control of pricing. The ever widening economic gap will continue to grow ever wider unless and until the wealthy cease to be able to use their wealth as political power to write the economic laws and commerce rules that keep that our corrupted capitalism self serving for the rich.

I sat in.the court room watching Harold C Brown find EVERY Black person who appeared before him guilty while exonerating every white boy, even one who admitted he was guilty.
@@marianlincoln9008 😆🤔How am I a fool? The U.S. government was 💯% complicit in slavery, not just individual slave owners. The European countries that owned slaves in the Caribbean, South and Central America should pay reparations too. They sure had zero problem giving slave owners their reparations after the Civil War. Yes, many countries had slavery. But how many countries had slaves that helped build the most powerful nation on Earth without getting so much as a dime, while their descendents still faced unfair laws and policies for over a century afterwards as well as persecution until this very day?
Two years ago, I had a client who’s in High School had a history project regarding to Reparations, as well as the Wealth Gap when it comes to Black people compared to other races. The project was basically how should reparations be divided when it comes to plans for Economics, as well as education. With the money should it be divided for Black people to have their own businesses/homes, as well as educational opportunities. As a 41 year old Black female with 2 college degrees. As a Mother to a 9 year old Daughter. I never had a project like that in school before, which was an eye opener. I didn’t know that Blacks were almost 300 years behind white counterparts when it comes to the wealth gap. It makes sense! A lot of white people had generational wealth from slavery; while slaves had strive and struggle from nothing to get ahead after slavery was over. The fact that Africans was stolen from their land and brought over to America to be slaves and be treated worse than an animal. Even though, slavery ended, but it was also Jim Crow and segregation. The thing about reparations is I support reparations! However, are we ever going to see it! That’s like in this country hate crimes are still being done towards black people and we’re still seeing this today, which is the New Jim Crow!
@@ralphz1238 Which tribes? Who are you going to return it to? The tribes that were there before Europeans came? Or before they were conquered by other tribes?
You really think Africa would be comparable to Europe if they hadn’t sold each other into slavery? Not just to the US, but the parts of Europe that still had slavery, not to mention South American slavers, as well as Arab slavers. You aren’t a victim of anything but your own hubris. Your own desire to be one. Because nowadays being a victim gets you social cred.
It's a nice "high school debate class" topic. Personally, I can't wait until it's a college level debate class" topic titled, "Could you have survived the 20th century?"
I really would like to know what tangible benefits would encompass reparations that’s different from food stamps, Medicaid, SSI, free phones, free housing, heating assistance, furniture vouchers, free transit, free clothing, free education, free programs, and everything else you get when you’re living off the system.
@@wilburgordon7606 I have learned, that they will not try putting nor doing anything beneficial for us if it does not benefit them...not all of them, but, perhaps most of them to say the least.

This is where we go wrong… there is no reason to even debate this on national television. This displays our weakness as a people. We need to learn about optics.
For anyone comparing what happened to blacks with ANY other race living in America (or anywhere else in the last 300 years) show me ONE other race (in the last 300 years) that was enslaved by another race for countless generations... Show me one other example (in the last 300 years) where basically an entire race throughout the entire country was enslaved... Had their children enslaved. Their grandchildren enslaved. Their great grandchildren. Their great-great grand children.... Show me another country (again, in the last 300 years) that was 100% economically successful because of a slave race (black) while the controlling race (whites) were made the most wealthy and powerful race on the planet (which they still are today). If you don't agree with reparations... That's fine... But comparing the enslavement of blacks with what happened to the Irish, Chinese, your granddad, or anyone else, is disingenuous af... I'd even argue that African Americans got it worse than Native Americans... Native Americans: Wrecked by disease, followed by a pretty one sided "war" with the whites, that they ultimately lost. Followed by the stealing of all of their lands, followed by their placement into reservations. Followed by... Wait for it... Reparations... Flash forward to today. The country is still ruled by white men, but... They LOVE Native Americans. White people can't wait to tell you how they're part (insert tribe here). Compare that to being a slave your entire life AND knowing that your children (and all your descendants for hundreds of years) will also be slaves (you are also forced to breed)... Then fast forward to today where a large percentage of the people who run this country (still white men ofc) secretly, or openly in the comment section, hate you.. Imho, it's not even close who got it worse.
The Chinese really don't deserve anything because 1: no one told them to come here and 2: they actually got paid. They easily could've just stayed in China. African slaves on the other hand were forced to come here and work for free
Chinese haven’t fought in every war the country has had. When P Harbor was attacked that was Asian people doing it. When did blacks attack the country by planes and bombs?? Never and still they were hung and put in trees no matter how much racist don’t wanna pay they’re gonna pay one way or the other kick the can down to the next generation. If your alive in 25 years from now your gonna see a bill being passed for reparations because blacks and Latinos will have the majority scientists say by 2050 America is no longer majority white if you think what let’s say 150 million people to 175 million people aren’t gonna have the power to make it happen your highly mistaken. That’s gonna get passed so fast like a budget bill. Kicking it down the line not addressing it now will force them to do it. You can bet on it.
The best form of payment to a slave owner for their slaves labor was MONEY…not economic or social or educational policies. So, in that spirit…pay Black American descendants of enslaved persons the MONEY they’re owed.
@@sistahb5159hey already got reparations. >Natives have special zones >Jews got a safe community with no red lining from professions >Japanese were paid by Reagan
He sure is that’s why all these talks and, studies are taking place. America must atone for one of its original sins of slavery through reparations & in different forms of compensation. They’re going to fight it tooth and, nail but I’m afraid it’s out of their hands!
How dare you bring Coleman Hughes on here to discuss this matter? He wouldn't even qualify. He has nothing to do with this. He doesn't speak for US!! Also Coleman Hughes you didn't answer his question about Germany and statue of limitations only applies to civil and criminal legal proceedings.

Of course they should. However, the trillion of dollars, land and resources owned would only be acquired through war. The oppressor will never give it up voluntarily.
@ninobrown724 , because the government is still the government, and they were and are still involved in the enslavement of millions of Black people to this very day. The 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution bans slavery or involuntary servitude, EXCEPT when it is used as punishment for a crime. Unfair sentencing and unequal distribution of resources. It's systematic, not individual based. The US owes trillions of dollars and land to Black people. We all know this.
The hustle is in the question. Though I believe you can, one doesn't have to go back to slavery to make the case for reparations. Just look at the constitutional violations in the 40's, 50', 60's that robbed Blacks of generational wealth, spawned the street gang culture that's pervasive in low-income Black neighborhoods, etc. All you have to do is read The Color of Law (also available as an audio book) to learn why reparations are deserved.
i would feel so embarrassed to ask the taxpayers of 2023 to give me their money because I had slaves in my background in the 1800s..or at any time for that matter! there are single women with children working just to feed their children! and you think you deserve their money? why again? because some slave from Africa didn't save his money to give it to you for your generational wealth?
@@Ashley10E what? No I didn't. Segregation was only in the South in the years AFTER the Civil War. As a Hispanic of Mexican descent whose ancesters helped build up Texas; I would not have my taxes pay for reparations as none of my ancesters owned slaves. What about Native Americans and other immigrants that came to the U.S. after slavery ended?
My DNA is part English, part Irish, part Nigerian, part North African, part Iberian, part Baltic, part Finnish, and part East European. I'm going to owe myself a heck of a lot of reparations if this idiocy is followed to it's illogical conclusion.

We as a people have to constantly stand in front of the unjust judges of our nation and stand and stand and fight and fight in the court room , on our knees, day in day out to get those things that belong to us. Those who do not want their reparations send your check back to Uncle Sam when it comes but me I want mine.
what planet are you living in !! we have all the same laws and opportunities as any other American. we can all go to school and become whatever we want..if we work for it,,why should we deserve other Americans' tax money who had nothing to do with it? just as we had nothing to do with it? if someone won't hire you because you are black then take it up with the proper authorities as any other race would do! there are laws put in place for that, we are living in the 1800s son !!
How many courtrooms have you been on your knees in? You just want money you didn’t earn and don’t deserve. You didn’t suffer in the cotton fields but expect payment for someone else’s suffering. It’s disgusting, earn your own money.

give a man a loaf of bread or a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him how to bake or how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime... The same goes for money (reparations) give a person $50,000 or $100,000 and you support them for a year or two, give them the means to make that money themselves by providing school, college, equal opportunity and you thus support them for a lifetime.
