@@GeorgiaOverdrive The flag thing in the USA is one manifestation of "Tribalism". Seeing your country in the same way you see your local sports team. We're number one ! Showing the flag is the equivalent of painting your face with your team's colors at a game. The basis of this Tribalism is a need to bask in the deeds and accomplishments of your tribe. Like when, at a Dvorak concert, someone says, " It makes me proud to be Czech."

As a Dutch person, I'd like to note that the British did not discover Australia... Before that it was known as Nieuw Holland and before that there was already a large population living there.

@Seamalicous

The Dutch were about 80,000 years late on discovering it. And didnt claim credit (i.e settle the continent, they didnt even really know that most of it existed). The British did claim credit it for it though(by settling it). Not sure what relevance your comment has to the joke. The whole premise of the joke is that the British didnt discover it but claimed it anyway.
@dusssss631
@dusssss631 3 года назад
@@Seamalicous a: Hence my note of ''Already a large population living there''. b: Discovered and settled is not the same. the west coast was fully mapped by Abel Tasman (who also named New Zeeland and after whom Tasmania was named) on his way northwards. Yes, he did not settled Australia, but he did discover it as the first western person. c: a reason why I mentioned this, as Adam talked about the British discovering Australia. And partly because as a Dutch person living in the UK I get annoyed by the singularity of their understanding of history, assuming that the UK discovered/ruled everything. And I might have translated that into a snide comment underneath a youtube clip.

I felt uncertain about the vaccine at first. I was more bothered about what the side-effects might be. Never been keen on needles at the best of time. I would definitely not want to be labelled anti-VAX because I’m not. I would just be happy as long as it’s safe. What gets me is how quickly they have been to get the vaccine sorted and yet other ones still don’t seem to be affective. I wish the flu jab had a higher percentage effectiveness.
@TyrannosavageRekt
@TyrannosavageRekt 3 года назад
So, the reason the flu vaccine isn't as effective is because the influenza virus is ingrained deep into our ecosystem, and changes and mutates very rapidly, not to mention that it isn't limited to a single strain. Vaccines are actually developed for the flu twice a year because of this.

It wasn't actually quick at all. Work on Coronavirus vaccines started with the SARS epidemic, so it has been underway for almost two decades at this point. The recent massive influx in funding (and samples of this new strain) meant it didn't take long to finalise a working vaccine, because they could build on so much research that had already been done.

Why didn't David go off on a rant about the union flag being called a Union Jack? It's only a Jack if it's flown at sea, otherwise it's just a flag. Modern societal reference literature has caved and decided to accept the terms are interchangeable, just because the population are too stupid to understand the difference. I'm suprised David didn't have a rant about it 😂

guys, forget about the percentage and ask what is in it. rna vacine is basically gene therapy and is the first ever rna vaccine. they havent even used rna in animal vaccines. by that i dont mean vaccines that are tested on animals, i mean vaccines designed for animal health. it will be in your cells for life and your rhibosomes will be translating it for the rest of your life, possibly changing your genetic make up....also, what else is in there. i dont care about vaccsers and anti vacsers. learn what they are putting into your body and then make an informed decision. we thankfully live in a free country, we analyse everything that politicians tell us before decide who to vote for. if we make a mistake, we get to change our minds in 5 years or less. please please ask what is in the vaccine, research it, mull it over and then make an informed decision. please dont think that my post is to influence you. i am just asking you to avail yourself of the facts have a think and then decide.
@KungfooBucket
@KungfooBucket 3 года назад
RNA can be used for gene therapy. The protein blueprints for viruses can be made of RNA (or DNA) but they can't replicate outside a cell. The vaccine is fragments of viral RNA. Just bit's, not a whole virus. The bits float around out side your cells so your immune system gets a chance to recognize what the virus looks like and knows what to attack. That's how most vaccines work. Train the immune system to recognize a threat by exposing it to damaged / bits of / a similar virus. RNA vaccines are being branded as NEW just because of the nature of their manufacture. Not because of the actual content. Instead of taking a whole virus and smashing it into bits they are making some bits from scratch. That's the difference. Like the OP says read up on this. But make sure to read up on more than one key word like RNA.

Pffft... yeah, do your research. As if Karen the soccer mum and Dave who works in IT are going to have a fucking clue what all their Facebook and RU-vid 'research' means anyway. Here's an idea: why don't you show some respect for the people who devote their life to this stuff and worked their asses off for the last 8-9 months to bring you this vaccine.
@clairelouise4063
@clairelouise4063 3 года назад
@@Polyphemus. because i am a biology research assisstant and have been working in universities and a scientific instiute since 1985. spent 3 years working on serology. the rna vaccine is not properly thought out, ie the pfizer vaccine is the rna one. they are not chopping it up. they are putting a full mrna sequence with a ribosome binding site into you cells. your own ribosomes will then translate that into protein for the rest of your life. an mrna vaccine has never been made before. they dont know the long term effect. they also dont know quite how this will be passed on to your children. pfizer is all about money. similar attitude to the german company that made thalidimide without proper testing and that worked well, didnt it. if you read their explanaition for this vaccine it acctually says in one that the vaccine may or may not contain the covid rna. they took a sample from the lungs of 7 people from the same area in china. they start doing reverse pcr to multiply the sample without first checking that it was actually a covid sequence. pcr can be a very useful technique, but it also throws up many false postitves and false negatives, so you have to be diligant as to make sure you tripple check your results and make sure the sample is as pure as poss. also 7 people is not a statistically significant number for the population. also the pattern of epidemiology isnt right...i dont know why, i have no explanation for that and i dont want to get into conspiracy theories, though i do understand why some people do. the oxford uni vaccine is more sensible. they are using a weaked virus with correct viral membrane with the correct sites to allow the wbcs to start an anti body response. all rna strand are made up of a-u g-c. that is all in everything. we have 40% the same dna as a banana. to creat the correct protein you have to have a long string of the correct amino acids in the correct order. the pfizer idea of chopping up the rna into small pieces, would leave small bits of rna which would be useless in a transcription process so it doesnt make sense. also bear in mind that big pharma like pfizer smith klein etc opperate with a huge profit, like huge. university reaserch scientists just get their salary so are not driven by profit. obvs each reseach project has higher or lower consumable budget, i would assume this would be very large, but this money is litterally for the chemicals and equipment needed and none of this money will go into th resaerchers personal pocket. as they arent so profit driven they are more alturistic and so i trust them more, esp as i have worked in univerities and know how they work. i havent read the paper on the oxford project yet so i cant comment specifically. bear in mind that when ebola happened in angola several years ago, they just had to wait for someone to recover, take a sample of their blood taking advantage of their successful antigen/antibody response. it took 6 months from start to vaccine. bearing in mind this was in africa. obvs many scientist from around the world helped out with it......6 months. when the more recent ebola crisis happened in west africa, it was slightly mutated, but they already had the angola vaccine as a place to start. also the pfizer vaccine has to be stored in extremely cold conditions thus suggesting it is very unstable, also not a great situation. my name isnt karen, i have 13 research papers, i am not as rude, stupid or judgemental as you.....i suggest you do your research

@@clairelouise4063 That's an awful lot of words just to demonstrate that you completely missed my point. If you were half as smart as you like to pretend you are you'd realise that suggesting a bunch of non-experts 'do their own research' into a subject as complex and involved as viruses and vaccination, in a RU-vid comments section no less, is about as useful as suggesting that a bunch of amateur space enthusiasts simply fly themselves to the moon. 99.9% of people who ask their doctors or 'do their own research' aren't going to have the foggiest what any of the answers mean anyway. If you were a real expert, you'd know this. Combine this with your bad spelling and atrocious grammar and it's pretty clear that you aren't a research assistant and you don't have any research papers. If you had any real credibility you'd be expressing your concerns in a valid medium that would ensure your message gets to the right people. But instead, you're ranting on social media just like every other charlatan, fraud and anti-science clown. Undermining trust in real experts is disgraceful behaviour, made more insidious by you masquerading as one yourself. You should be ashamed.
