This is a brief video in response to a question posed by one of the subscribers to the channel:
Question: Is it true that there are no straightforward differences and similarities between postcolonialism and postmodernism but rather intersecting and diverging trajectories?

What is Postcolonialism:
Since I claim to be a postcolonialism scholar, I think it is apt to include a brief description of my field of study. In my view, Postcolonialism ( also written as Post Colonialism or Post-Colonialism) is a dynamic field of literary study that focuses on the history of colonialism and native responses to the colonial policies and life after colonialism formally ends. The field of postcolonialism also offers insights into the literature and culture of the the former European colonies and their struggles after the end of colonialism.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question. I appreciate it. Indeed my comparison is invalid due to the nature of postmodernism as a whole movement and postcolonialism as a field of literary study. I've read some literature in this topic such as Kwame Appiah's critical essay and this drew out the premise that The relationship between postmodernism and postcolonialism is a troubled one. postco- lonial literature that has some postmodern traits could be as reluctant targets of criticism due to their association with Eurocentric poststructuralism and postmodernism, therefore with their adoption of Western theory seen as potentially strengthening Western hegemony... I think the discussion gets even more controversial with each question or problem raised.

You are welcome. I find Appiah’s understanding of both a bit thin. I also found his book on Cosmopolitianism a bit reductive. I think as a scholar you should read and then decide for yourself where you stand. Postmodernism, however, is a highly complex phenomenon and its opponents usually reduce it a few tropes to mount their critiques and the same applies to critiques of Postcolonialism

@@masoodraja certainly. I've just started reading the literature. There is a lot to read and analyze so it's too early to make hasty judgments. Your videos are a stepping stone to dive into the matter!

It is also an wonderful session. But I think the term, Postcolonialism first needs to be defined in a very post-modern perspective. Will be looking forward to listen to that.
