I come from an economically deprived area. Low wages etc. A doctor once told me I'm an anomaly when I responded to his question "do you smoke" with a no. I can never understand how these poor disadvantaged people can afford cigarettes... SORRY NO! Take some responsibility for yourself and your health. I have worked in a supermarket and have SEEN what fat families buy. All processed food... family sized shepherds pie high in salt sugar fat. I was in total shock. Make it yourself... Why should the tax payer be responsible for another person's bad lifestyle choices. Educating yourself on food is easy these days. There is enough information out there. Let's sell a pill for every ill. She is correct. It's in the pharmaceutical companies interests to have people rely on drugs. How can people not see this. The food industry markets food as healthy... if its in a box. It's not. I've worked in marketing. Ad agencies were like hey Mars... hey... we can help you get around the HFSS government regulations without changing your recipes. Seen those new healthy mars and bounty bars. Yeah... they aren't healthy. Don't eat that shit unless you're exercising and need fast fuel. Want to lose weight. Up protein and healthy fats. Snack on nuts and fruit. Reduce grain foods. No breads cereals pasta etc. Cut alcohol to weekends only. It's more complex than calories in vs out. Your body uses more energy to burn certain foods, like protein. Plus it's satiating. Rant / advice over. Dr chris... telling people he has no advice for them. What an absolute joke.

Not everyone can afford to eat properly as she says , it's crazy when you have highly paid people like these pointing fingers shaming and blaming others for bad diets . There's families out there that consider chip sandwiches a luxury and cheap meats are also a huge problem. How much processed food does this woman eat I wonder? As someone who was reluctantly referred to a weight management program by my GP. It took me getting to an extremely dangerous bmi and many many failed attempts for them to finally allow me to get the help. I wish they could have referred me sooner. Dr Chris has echoed the same as my nutritionist. Trying to understand the deceptive ever-changing tactics of the food company and extremely laxed government laws makes it a struggle. Obesity will only get worse. Understanding calories or hidden calories in foods has been beneficial. Also people ignore the mental health aspect of weight loss. Income plays a major role. Happy to say I have lost weight and finally feel I have the tools to continue to do so. I am on the bariatric list but if I continue at my weight loss I will not need it. I would rather they made skin removal surgery after weight loss an option as an incentive or reward for your hard work.

forced by economic circumstances to eat processed food is a sham. I've been skint and gone to the local aldi. Yeah you can choose to buy cheap processed food, or you can buy a couple cans of tuna, soup, pasta etc, and get a reasonably balanced diet for £10 a week. The food industry is the problem because if you ever actually look at what you're picking up in the supermarket, 95% of it has so much crap in it. (like your whole food group daily allowance on one processed portion.) That's where personal accountability is important because yeah you can say its very easy to find yourself eating rubbish when you're going for cheap options, but others will consistently, with the same budget, actively seek out the cheap food with nutritional value thats not super processed. Kinda makes the doctor on the right's argument feel weaker, because instead of honestly assessing both the fault of the individual and the food industry, he's alleviating the individual of all responsibility for their own weight
@lindaleTH

Lisa's husband, Andy here, I work for the NHS I am working long hours and have not been given a break during lock down and even got hospitalised during that time. The stress of this damn job has made me put weight on. How would you feel about these possibilities, Cyclists that get knocked off their bikes (Sod 'em), People who fall of ladders ( sod 'em) , Suicide attempts (sod 'em) , people with STD's (Sod 'em) Who decides. I have to put my prejudices at the back of my mind. They are all lifestyle choices. If your family has cancer in the family should you breed? It's a lifestyle choice and obviously don't agree with what the woman is saying or any of this. All the best, I think that people who pay taxes deserve a service. You were clapping me and others like us . Pharmaceutical companies only care about profit (look at the wonderful vaccination campaign) a few years ago. My advice for anyone who wants to lose weight is don't work for the NHS. Good bye. 😡

As soon as we start going into "making people pay" for their life style, it's a highly slippery road to the end of the NHS. It's always these private practice people that try to fight to take our public services away. Let's help obese people in better ways, not advertise & sell so much crappy food, lower prices for healthy foods & lower the huge portions that are allowed to be given out. Education & paying for treatment are two different things & is disgusting, tbh. Edit- this woman is vile, sorry, she really comes across that way.

The approach of Dr Orsmond is vastly better than the British doctor, who suggests people of limited means have no self control, while being paid to prescribe things they may have to take for life. I forgot to mention the alcohol industrie, especially wine. Many tv programs soaps etc , the first thing they do is open a bottle of wine when they get home , this seems to be the new trend in movies and television. I watched a program and in nearly all the scenes with different situations , they nearly all were breaking open or drinking wine. Wine has often more alcohol in it than beer. So if people are drinking wine everyday and depending on how much, they will be adding more calories to their food diet.

The lady dominated with her fair points. Everyone knows the pharma and FMCG giants along with private hospital groups will keep promoting meds. Even health related startups have made it a business out of people's inability to reduce junk. The poorest parts in a country somehow I feel eat much healthier and natural. The absence of commute makes them walk regularly and farm fresh. Bottomline is, 30 mins of yoga, 30 mins of cardio, 3 days a week weight training (don't need a gym. Google calisthenics) along with a healthy diet trying to have lots of fruits and vegetables and the required amount of protein, is enough for anyone. EVERYONE can try this within their limitations and we won't be having this debate ever.

She dominated cos she shouted over every one. I wouldn’t be surprised if she benefits from obese people paying for meds (I don’t know I’m not saying she does but it could be true). If fat people need to pay to see the doctors, then more people will turn to weight loss clinics like her own. It’s simple. It’s also why I suspect she’s against these weight loss drugs (again I don’t know and I don’t know if these drugs r any good either). I can tell you now that is a myth, same as drinking more water will help you lose weight, same as you shouldn't eat late at night, same as you shouldn't drink diet soda/pop etc etc Also dieting is 80% about the food you eat, and only 20% about the exercise you need to do!! I can tell you all this because it is only cals in and out, you can eat what you bloody want as long as you stick to those cals every day, save them up if you need to for going out for a meal or drinking at the weekend etc as long as your weekly total adds up to the correct amount you will be fine!! I know this because i have struggled all my life with my weight simply because i like my food, and an emotional eater, and have a sweet tooth, no excuses, that is how i am! However i was not meant to be fat, i have a very small frame, small hands, ankles, feet, quite nice legs, etc etc and have an hour glass figure when i lose the weight! I have lost all my weight i needed to many times, well 4 in my lifetime, woke up one day, got a calorie counting book, and just got on with it, i lost 41/2 stone in 7 months, no extra exercise either, just my normal job! Oh and i drank diet Pepsi all the time, and i mean a lot, i ;i live on the stuff anyway, about 10 2 litre bottles a week! When i have put any weight back on, it is because i have stuffed my face, no one else's fault, but my own! I don't make excuses, i just get on with it, and it is very hard, but it can be done, it is as simple as you want, or you can make it as hard and complicated as you want! But what people need to stop doing, is stop making excuses! At the end of the day we all know most overweight people do!!

@@Darkangel-hy8ev what i don’t understand is, if if you were locked in a room with carrots and apples, as many as you could eat, would you overeat? most people overeat because bad quality food is addictive. if you manage your fiber content, eat natural foods as much as possible, maintain good protein, don’t drink sugary drinks, you will lose weight much more effectively. yes, calories play a role but you’ll have a much easier time avoiding overeating if you eat the right foods

@@anonthemouse5422 I understand what you are saying, and when people used to comment on my diet not being perfect when i am losing my weight, that is fine, i know how i like to do it, what works for me etc, and they would still be struggling because they were trying to worry about fiber content, fat content etc when i did not! Like i said if i had to mess about worrying about those things i would never succeed! Weight watchers, slimming world, all those things never worked for me, to complicated, telling you what you should eat and not etc Plenty of water theory again, it is rubbish, and i do not really like water! You do you, but what i do works every time, and most people would not stick to it,as i have never had more than 1300 cals a day at the very most! I do not have fast food on it anyone, but i do occasionally save up cals to go for a meal, or have a take away, or go out drinking, but it is not a regular thing! I don't eat breakfast, as not hungry in mornings, and i try and save more cals for the evening as that as when i want them more, and i am a night owl, so i have always ate very late at night! Also just remember Diet Pepsi is not a sugar drink, none in it, and in my opinion it is lovely, but i can not drink diet coke, hate the stuff! You see my way is not a typical way, but it is plain and simple and works, and would work for anyone, but not many will stick with it, only way i know, no one said it was easy lol

The lifestyle we lead, with all the junk foods people eat, it's no wonder that people are getting more and more overweight. They should make healthy food cheaper and junk foods more expensive. I don't believe overweight people should pay more towards the NHS, the junk food industrie, breweries , tobac industrie, and soft drinks industrie should pay into the NHS, just imagine how much money the NHS could receive, instead the government keeps the tax for other things, other than the NHS.

This is bs; I’m of a lower income, with a family of overweight people and I choose to eat well and exercise hence I’m not overweight. This a mental health crisis not a physical health crisis; people are upset, they eat; they put on weight and get more upset (it’s a positive feedback) what you need to do is learn what foods are healthy; a society filled with drugs isn’t healthy. Look up how autoimmune diseases, mental health disorders and anti-bacterial resistance in bacteria have all increased due to our necessary use of drugs; change peoples minds helps the long term changing your body is only a short term fix. How has society got it so flipped now idk.

This is a very complicated topic with a lot of factors to take into account. Not fit for a 10 minute “discussion”. Has anyone on here actually read the literature on this drug or are people just making there mind up based on feelings and what the see in magazines of celebrities loosing weight? Are people aware that this drug also makes your body cannibalise lean body mass as well as fat? Lean body mass being everything that is not fat such a bone, tendons, ligaments, organs as well as muscle. This is because the eating habits don’t change so people are still not nutritionally balanced. Either way there are health risks so it’s up to the individual which set of health risks they want.

Absolutely NOT. The NHS is free at the point of entry to British Citizens without fear or favour. Shaming exacerbates the emotional reasons behind overeating and is likely to make the issue worse not better. Think about Smoking. The same principles apply to obesity. Shaming and threats simply reinforce the behaviour and psychological & emotional issues behind the behaviour that you don’t want. The Government should properly examine the reasons behind obesity and take positive action towards making healthy food more accessible, banning advertising for takeaway sites and junk food while show thin people eating this food so normalise this. Access to Exercise, counselling, & social worker involvement should be prescribed not just drugs. All of these services, particularly mental health, have been decimated during the last 13 years by Austerity, Council Cuts, NHS Cuts, NHS Staff shortages, Social Services etc. The blonde lady does make many good points. However, punishing a person for their weight by limiting their access to the NHS by charging them is cruel and complete unacceptable & counterproductive. It goes against every principle of our duty of care
