I work for a rental company. I can tell you by working on owners machines, they don’t always have people running them who know what they are doing either. Our maintenance is far superior to most of the customer machines I’ve seen. Fair majority of owner do not have dedicated service trucks. They tend to use auto parts store filters and cheap oils. So it’s a toss up. Just use your head and look the machine over. We, as a rental store, can show you every time it’s been serviced and what we’ve done to it. Can most owner operators do that?

I bought parts through them before. Excellent customer service and best prices. It’s my place to go for any parts I will ever need.

To me depends on the equipment and your intended use. If you're using it to make a living and going to do a lot of hours, then I'd be careful. If you're a home user and you will only put a few hours on it, then something a bit beat up but cheap may be all you need. Yes it may have been treated hard, but a lot of equipment is stronger than people think - you can't hurt it too much by using it even if you're inexperienced. There are exceptions - both to how strong the equipment is, and just how stupid some people can be. My BX came from a contracting company who clearly let the apprentice drive it. Every panel is busted, everywhere it says no step the apprentice clearly stepped. But it's mechanically sound and it was very cheap. I'm happy with it as a first tractor, and I don't feel bad when I learn what not to do by doing it (and put my share of panel damage on it). My next one will be a new one, and will last me 20 years, but this was a great first tractor.

As a roofing contractor who works on many brand new house and knows which contractor has their own equipment and who rents I know you never buy rented equipment. A demo model is hard to say I’ve been in a few demos where the sales guys are getting you to push it to show you what it has to offer

I see some comments below, I can bet some rental machinery will be for sale once warranty is up or yearly date like 3years? Just like tractor, we brought tractor that had been split with new clutch pack with 5000hrs we know that we would do 200 hours in year and new tractor would not make sense. Second we purchase new forks n bucket as both original were damage. Now you might thing tractor might be treated roughly but 2 years later tractor is paying for itself in time n money with hydraulic coupling been replaced. Servicing it right n in right hands we have this tractor for long time, in 10 years we will replace it.

This doesn't have to do with Digging Equipment wear and tear. Rental over New. I bought a 1971 SeaGrave Fire Engine. I did have to rebuild the clutch ( 5 speed spicer/ Dana) The neat thing was I got all the service Records back to when they bought it. The Fire Department shop. boy they serviced it good. My story is buyers beware try and get service Records on machine from NEW. Auctions are another fun one to go see. the people get in a buying frenzy over a piece of Junk.

Very nice overview. One small thing I think is huge is the remodel of the B2410, which now gives position control for the 3-point hitch. These small tractors have not been popular because of the gear-shift, but can make an amazing deal if it fits the customer's needs. The real down side for me on the previous model was the quarter-inching valve. I hope we all remember this offering when trying to match customers to the right equipment. Thanks!

As a dealer with rentals what determines when you decide to sell instead of keep renting?
@FishFind3000
@FishFind3000 6 лет назад
Mister Meener probably the current value, to hours ratio. And how much it’s making if it’s just sitting might need to move it. If it’s rented all the time keep it till it’s worn out.

Never. The only used equipment I’ll buy is owner/operator machines. Downside is they are hard to find. It’s amazing how different a person will treat a piece of equipment when it’s their wallet on the line.

I bought a rental ZT with 60 hours from you guys and saved close to 25% vs new with a full warranty. I’d definitely do it again.

Benjimen Franklin yes , 90% of the time people don’t care because it’s not there so they beat the shit out of it

I disagree, as some rental equipment is in outstanding shape. One thing I'm sure many readers aren't aware of is that many larger rental facilities keep very detailed records of each piece of equipment they own which includes the number of times the respective unit was actually rented and also, the number of hours it has been used. BTW, many private sellers of equipment beat the crap out of their equipment which makes your vimment invalid. I own skid steers, plate compactors, orbital sanders, etc. and I have seen much better buys in rentals yards than in a private owner's garage or barn. Finally, at many Home Depot's rental departments, I have purchased equipment that was only rented 1 or 2 times. They (Home Depot) dis not have it for sale, but when u asked about it, they were very willing to sell it, as it beefs up their daily and monthly sales.

I asked my girlfriend if I could see her hour-meter. I didn't see her for two weeks after that. Then the swelling in my eyes started to go down.

and like he said, it's not the number of hours, but how rough the operators were.

Rentals are usually used by inexperienced drivers and that's a major factor, I can't see any pro's and unless your dog rough yourself you shouldn't buy them

I spent almost 10 years in the military... It's probably similar to re tal equipment. We beat the snot out of that machinery but we also maintained them very well. If anything was broken it got fixed... All maintenence was done pretty much on time. Not sure I'd want to own one but I do know how the maintence was done but I also know we beat on them.

I rented a dozer once, two pushes it codes up regen. I do the 10 minutes of regen. Two pushes, codes regen again....turn dozer off, restart, push two pushes codes regen. Turn dozer off, restart again. Took 10 hours to do a 3 hour job. In short I wouldn't take a rental unless it was free and came with a lot of spare parts. Note: if your equipment is set up with a regen system, never use off road diesel. It's dirty, ruff and will junk your system.

where was this video 2 months ago... I bought a green rototiller and it took 550bucks to bring it back to health.

Sorry to hear that, Deere did not make your green rototiller. It's usually advantageous to figure out who the manufacturer actually was and buy the parts from them instead of paying an unnecessary Deere tax.

Hi I have a question about our Kubota ZD21 zero turn. We’re having issues were the lawn mower won’t turn off. Do you know what part we need to fix it? We just had to use pliers to stop the fuel line from feeding the engine.

I had this problem with a ZD28, it was a fuse under the hood that was not making contact in the fuse box. Removed the fuses cleaned out the box and replaced with new fuses. Haven't had a problem since then.
