Maybe I'm different. I don't mind the external looks long as it has all the features inside that I need. Got a X4 SE F26 fully speced out but hasn't got the styling of a M model. Even has the adaptive suspension. The previous owner spent a lot on extra features

I bought one of these new back in 2019, and kept it for just 9 months before I traded it in. We just couldn't live with it any longer than that. We've had several different Range Rovers in our time, and we still love them. However, the Evoque was a massive disappointment. We didn't even get to drive it home ourselves on collection day - arrived at the dealership to be told that the car needed a software update and wasn't ready! They gave us some nice accessories by way of an apology, but seriously? What kind of brand new car needs a software update and why on earth hadn't they done it before? The infotainment system is glitchy, we quickly got used to the Bluetooth just refusing to work, same with the parking sensors and cameras... One of the fancy door handles refused to retract one day and had to be replaced. The build quality was equally poor, panels misaligned all around the car. You can see the same thing in this video - check out the alignment of that boot lid to the light cluster beside it. For the money they charge for these you can expect a lot better. If you're looking at buying on of these, save yourself the disappointment and get yourself a Macan instead. Off road ability aside, it's a better car in every way... And let's be honest, virtually nobody who would even consider an Evoque is going anywhere near an unpaved surface anytime soon.

I dare say I’ll get some hate for this but I think it’s the best looking LR ever made. There I said it! And one of the best looking mass market cars on sale today. For me it manages to look comfortingly retro whilst looking fantastically futuristic. What other car has ever managed to pull that off? If only I could afford one! Great video as always Matt, keep ‘em coming 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I don't mind the higher tax (involuntary payments to Government are taxes, irrespective the label given) as such, but this is one that is an invitation for fiscal drag; where inflation means the underlying price of the car rises but the tax threshold does not, yielding higher revenues for the Government; I'm not a fan and think it is pernicious. I can't see the UK Government giving up revenue anytime soon either. The 40K threshold was introduced in for cars first registered after April 1st, 2017. As of April 1st, 2022 it hasn't changed. Remind me of your opinion when your new Dacia incurs this tax.

@@johngunning2123 Matt makes excellent videos. Sadly he is obsessed with this particular marque. They are what I term hairdressers or "wags" cars. The warranty, price of spares, mpg? All act against them for me. Sadly Land Rover has become a designer label. I get a feeling once the Grenadier starts production we will see Defender sales take a hammering. I agree with you about alternatives, better priced and far more reliable.

Good review, but a little optimistic. This car has some significant irritations. I had mine from new and the O2 sensor went bad leading to rough idling after only 8,200 km. Replaced under warranty but it's a bit poor from a new car. Auto start stop cuts off seamlessly, but it starts quite rough. Rough enough to make you not want to deal with it and turn it off every time.. Can't really drive with the driver's window down because there is some strange wind resonance in the interior going on.. Braking and going back to accelerator like at roundabouts confuses the car and there is a noticeable delay in power delivery. I've had 4 occasions where the infotainment system crashed and I couldn't use any of the onboard functions. It recovers by itself after a couple of restarts. The dealership said it was a software issue. Reasonably comfortable ride though.

So, just because someone acquires a £40k + car, you dont mind paying the disgusting road fund licence, some people save or pay on finance, that doesn't mean they are 'well off', why should they be robbed to drive on crap road surfaces, then pay more to drive on toll roads and drive through clean air towns. You could be driving along side an identical looking car with fewer extras that was £39k and yours was £40k and you end up paying hundreds of pounds a year more in road tax, for five years, hardly a fair system. The road fund licence system is disgusting. Rant over.

This is a review which reminds me of Mark Anthony at Caesar’s Funeral ‘I came to Bury to bury Caesar, not to praise him’. Personally, I don’t like Epoques, aside from that. I always thought them a novel ‘hand bag’ car -especially the convertible. So, pray tell, what did you mean by ‘not when you have long fingernails’ - almost as good as ‘Chavtastic’. And the comments about interior surfaces, a classic couple of lines which couldn’t be sarcastic, no? Anyway I wish you had your own TV slot - you would outclass Clarkson by a high peaks mile! Any way very enjoyable review

Can't agree with you on the 40k car tax. It's an epic double dip. We already pay more tax on a 40k car through VAT. Also, if you're going to have a "luxury car tax", put on cars that are actually in the luxury price range... I don't think 40k is the right figure, should be cars around 60-70k+. 40k is right in that range that people who're just making a bit more income for the first time in their lives can finally afford a slightly nicer car, and the government arbitrarily go and put a tax on it. I get why, less people can afford 60k+ cars, but it's taxing the lower middle class, not the actual wealthy.

Think Jaguar also need to rethink their standard equipment. No folding mirrors or fully electric seats on my XF which I’ve just bought after trading my Discovery Sport. Prefer the look of the MK1 tbh. MK2 looks less distinctive/original, more generic. Saying that the only people I know with an Evoke (MK1) had loads of software-related issues with the transmission. Grinding and juddering. Moreover lots of fighting with the main dealers they bought it from, nearly new, to get it sorted even under warranty. Nice car otherwise but seriously off-putting.

I personally prefer the more rugged, chunky looking MK1. Pretty much all the styling things I like about the Evoque, they’ve managed to get rid of in this version. Don’t like the thin black light cluster at the back, looks too much like they’re off a car. The headlights (which are sort of the eyes of the car) seem characterless on the MK2. The more smoothed out lines just make it look like anything else. It’s just too sterile, and too much like a smaller version of the rest of their range, which I’m not a fan of. So lucky for me, I can only afford a MK1 👍🏻

I much prefer the 1st generation....it was simply the equivalent to a stunning supermodel. At the same time, it looked beefy too, since it had slightly more scalloped side panels that accentuated the flared guards with their black trim. The 2nd gen appears toned down, rather than more modern. The best way to describe the 2nd generation, is to suggest that it's as though it has had botox treatment. Yes the basic proportions, wedge design and sloping roof is retained, but Botox has smoothed out the supermodels looks way too much, and has taken away much of the character lines and details that helped make the 1st gen the supermodel that it was. This was a great example where they led down the path of design reduction in the name of modernity (on a design that was already very modern, very clean, and timeless), and by doing so, have taken away much of it specialness. I also preferred the interior design of the 1st gen as well....it had a simple bold concept look, that was totally unique and well suited to the equally stunning, bold exterior design. Not to mention, i prefer buttons for their tactile feel and aesthetic , over screens that give no feel factor what so ever, and then turn black showing fingerprints when turned off. No, i'll keep my Silver with black contrasting roof MK 1 2012 Evoque Dynamic with 20'' style 7 shadow chrome alloys, over a MK 2 every day of the year thank you.

I will quote a web site without any negative or positive message to future LR/RR/Evoque owners: Land Rover’s Driver Power rankings as a manufacturer over the past few years can best be described as inconsistent; in 2017, the British brand came 22nd, in 2018 it came seventh, and in 2019 it was 20th, before falling to 25th place in 2020. That inconsistency was no different in 2021, with the brand finishing in 22nd place. This lowly ranking was largely down to reliability, with 30.3% of owners reporting a fault in the first year, which was one of the most complained about aspects of Land Rover ownership. Overall, Land Rover recorded the third highest fault rate in our survey for 2021, only beaten by Tesla and Mazda, who recorded first year fault rates of 42.4% and 34.5% respectively.

Why are the MPG figures so poor? You can get Japanese and German V6 3.0 engines that drink less. Nice looking car though.

90% of these are driven by Nail Technicians on a can't-quite-afford-it lease deal. The other 10% are driven by their other halves. Horrible cars.

To me these are like the porsche boxter, capable, pretty but just not the full fat version. A poor man's porsche or a poor mans RR for the evogue. Just screams everything on finance beauty salon worker.

Not keen on the Evoque - don't like its styling, design or image. Obviously people do like them though, there's plenty around.

Hola!

The mark one is just a posh freelander Iv never been a fan of the evoque .They produce far to many cheap low spec versions and a Range Rover is a luxury car and as such the low spec versions attract the cheap skates wanting the badge but they really cannot afford to buy a decent spec one so the market gets flooded with lots of poverty base spec cars which cheapens the marque and they make 2wd versions which really are pointless

Matt. But it's not a proper Range Rover ! How's it compare to the Ford Focus ST on stilts equivalent except your price ? V.

Are you a beautician with a Cockapoo? If yes, buy an Evoque.

I was an Evoque enthusiast, living in Ireland I attempted to buy a second hand 2017 reg at € 42000, but drove it and it was so old fashioned. I instead bought a Tiguan Highline, beautiful spec...

If you like the taste of the coffee in the LR service area of your local stealers by all means get one.. just a joke some are actually reliable. I spoke to a male owner once and the comment he got the most was “could you not afford a proper one” he swapped it for an older RR sport and has never looked back

I think spec really matters with this mk2 more than the previous. Some of the wheel options available are terrible and totally undermine the looks of the car.
