Excellent. You made a solid deal / bet and look at it now. You did not go wrong on day one and look at you now! Bravo, keep on motoring. You "upcycle" ;e among the best of them. Keep it up. Now I am going to subscribe to the channel. Good Night and God Bless.
DUDE have you changed the CP4 Pump.....as a diesel guy you should know that they fail randomly usually at about 120k miles. THere is a CP3 kit for putting a r70 euro pump on it that solved it......Newest fix. Cost if you wait till it fails your looking at $9000 at the dealer. Or 2500 and a few days labor if you do it yourself. cp3 kits are 750.. search it on my channel and see the fix video.
Traded in 2010 Jetta TDI on the scandal, used the money to buy a 2015 TDI Sportwagen, now looking to get a 2013 TDI golf as a second car. They are by far the best commuter cars ever sold in North America.
I highly recommend this car. I've owned mine since 2015. You definitely brought up all pros and cons of this engine. The emissions may be the most annoying thing on the car. I've recently deleted the EGR & DPF and installed a turbo back exhaust. Best decision I've made. About to hit 200,000 and it still gives me no problem.
@@dudestuff1557 I tested the upgrade on a cross country trip and on a full tank, I managed to get 530 miles all highway. City I can get anywhere from 400 to 500.
@@nopenada8071 that’s awesome! What does it work out to mpg? Also, I just bought a ‘14 today.. 👍🏻 Can you send a link where you got stuff for the delete? I want to do it ASAP.
Great video. We traded in our 2013 6-Speed Golf TDI after Dieselgate. Was on the fence about it but VW offered close to what I paid for it. We now own a 2002 Golf TDI with the ALH motor which we love. Does not have near the bells and whistles but it is a fun car to drive and averages 48 mpg with over 50 mg on road trips. Still miss the 2013
Great Video. Another thing to watch for is plugged pano roof drains. Can cause serious water damage if not taken care of properly. I've grappled with this and its not easy to fix, and VW dealers are reluctant to take it on too.
taking delivery of my 2014 Jetta Sportwagen TDi next week. and she's got a manual! Had a mk IV golf tdi some years ago. It regularly got 45 mpg hwy, but I did an economy run once (ie 55 mph on the interstate) and got around 60 mpg.
I’ve owned 3 TDI wagons they are the best all around car I have ever owned, period!! #1 was a manual which I loved but wife wanted auto so traded it for #2 which I sold back to VW despite loving the car. I then drove a corolla and a plug-in Prius for the next two years for my commuter...I drive 100 miles per day. The Prius was literally the worst car I have ever driven in my life! As soon as VW fixed the TDI and they flooded the used car market for 1/2 price I purchased a 2013 and I have my favorite commuter car back with the versatility of an suv and the mpg of a Prius and sporty enough driving to have some fun. Buy one! BTW these TDI’s are covered to 120k miles from VW as part of the dieselgate apology.
I bought a 2015 Jetta tdi sel that was a part of dieselgate, got it in 2019 with under 50k miles, love it, great mpg! City I get 35+, and around 50+ highway, especially on long highway trips. Keeping up with routine maintenance, the only issues I've had are the tie rod ends, and the speed sensors, everything else has been routine maintenance. Well, a heater core and blend door actuator, otherwise, love my Jetta!
You just got to Love The TDI I have a 2003 Jetta TDI No major work kept the maintenance up and I still get 39.2 miles to the gallon and It has 487,915 miles on it and it's still going strong and you will fall in love with the manual transmission I still enjoy it..
I also have a 2013 JSW, It's FANTASTIC !!! German quality is not easily matched, and just as you mentioned I bought it at a very low price. I purchased my JSW with only 23K for 11,500.00. The vehicle was such a good deal I purchased 2 more, one for each of my sons. Thank you Volkswagen !!!
Nice wagon, I’m starting to notice how hard it is to find a TDI period. I’ve called up multiple dealerships and looked all over online and nothing comes in. I would love a manual. Enjoy it man!
You bought a gold nugget! We have one and LOVE IT!!! We told our VW dealer to pass up the chain that we want these brought back! I wouldn’t take a garage full of Lamborghinis for ours!
I have a ‘14 Jetta TDI. VW offered me $7000 more than I paid for it to buy it back. I kept it because I love the thing. Drives like a little Porsche and gets 47 MPG. They do have their quirks though. Mostly little design flaws that can get pricey. But the power train is rock solid. If you can keep up with the maintenance and the quirks there is no reason you can’t go 300k in one of these.
I am currently in Florida about to haul a uhaul to TN with mine. It took some digging bc the owner's guides shipped out with a lot of *'s that signified not available at time of printing. From what I have found it has a towing capacity of 1300kg. I pulled a 4x8 cargo trailer from South FL to Central FL. About half full. I will guess Lil Saucy was hauling appx 800lbs of trailer and cargo for a total of about 1600lbs. It was faster off the line than a Duramax hauling a 5th wheel. He videoed me running off and leaving him. I chickened out at 55... Damn stickers all over the trailer. Pulling the 8' trailer we got 22.8mpg average. In Central FL I switched to a 150 llb heavier 6x12 trailer that's rated 100lbs less than the 1300kg or 2600 the car can do. I'm not loading to capacity. The larger trailer comes with trailer brakes. That is my main reason. With the 12' trailer the car is taxed. You can feel it on the hitch and in the wallet. It's getting 20.2mpg so far pulling the 12' tandem axel trailer. I haven't left for Tennessee yet and haven't felt the trailer property balanced. It's a little hitch heavy on the last two errands I ran so I am expecting the ride to improve after the last couple hundred pounds go into the rear of the trailer and tied down. As it stands, hitch heavy pulling close to 2000lbs, she's losing traction on the paint lines at stop lights when I try to impress ppl pointing at it.
update: we played The Little VW that Could up two hills in Birmingham, but other than that, she pulled comfortably away from most other vehicles on the road with a 4x8 trailer behind her, but the tandem axle 6x12 trailer was another story. I think she'd have pulled the 4x8 up the hills in Birmingham AL effortlessly, but the 6x12 turned got me down to 40mph and 3100 rpm with no power remaining before we crested. Had the climbs been a couple hundred feet higher, I don't know if she'd have downshifted and kept pulling slower, or stopped, I didn't find out, but I WAS worried. On the flat, and with mild hills, I'd say she pulled that 6x12 as well as my 90 Jeep Cherokee, which wouldn't have balked at the two hills. It's the 4.0 straight six. However, i'd have gotten about 14mpg with the Jeep. My 2011 Golf pulled a 6x12 trailer from Central FL to Central TN, and got 20.8mpg avg and completed it in 11hrs, with 7 stops and 3 passengers, one wheelchair disabled! The Golf TDI kicks ass.
My three door TDI GETS 41.5 mpg in mixed driving, I take real world data at each fill up. Currently my fuel cost per mile is 5 cents. When fuel is $2.50 per gallon it might go up to 6 cents per mile. It has Sirius radio, a great climate control system, leather seats, power windows and sunroof. Even the door locks are touch control. In addition, it handles beautifully with Yokohama’s. I hope to be able to get another if this one ever wears out. It’s definitely one of the best cars I’ve ever owned in 60 years of driving.
I have had 2007 City Jetta as my first Volkswagen amazing handling capability and fuel efficiency Volkswagen are very basic is what I appreciate eyes on the road is where you need them to be not trying to locate buttons…I upgraded to 2013 TDI Jetta love love this car more power under the hood than the vehicle itself visually looks basic efficient on diesel engine last longer than gas basic interior sunroof crazy fender sound system seats are comfortable front and back lots of legs room love my Jetta
I absolutely love my white 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen SEL TDI with 6-speed standard transmission! Bought it CPO last May and other than a wiring harness issue where the injector 3 power lines occasionally arc to the block (which is scheduled to be replaced in the coming weeks), it's been a great and enjoyable car! I have a VAG-COM cable and have enabled a few awesome features using VCDS on my laptop!
I have owned 11 TDI cars since 1999 best vehicles I have ever owned! I still own my 2015 VW Jetta SEL TDI manual Laded with options which I bought new! VW paid Me 8500 to keep it! I presently own 4 Diesels 2017 Chevy Colorado Duramax, 2015 VW Jetta SEL TDI, 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Eco Diesel and A 2014 BMW 328d Xdrive great vehicles!
Andrew, good video man! I just bought a 2017 gas TDI Passat SE with full warranty with 26k miles CPO. I think I played too much for it but I'm happy. The volkswagen dealer would give me anything for 2008 Passat so I kept it! Now you got me interested in a deasel but my concern is that deasel fuel often cost more than gas!
We bought two of these cars at that time - a 2014 Beetle TDI and a 2015 Golf TDI. They've been super excellent, and the cost wasn't bad at all. You're right, at the time they were incredible deals!
I have tdi Sportwagen almost 40k kms since 2018. 6 years. I don't worry what you are saying or be a problem because I drive it as if it's a ceramic. So far so good.
I have a 2012 6 speed manual golf tdi with a DPF delete and hood stack, shit purrs like a truck and I get around 600 miles to the tank. I have around 152,000 miles on it and will be driving it until It’s impossible to drive. Only paid 7000 for it too. Best purchase ever.
Such a GREAT CHANNEL!!! You say you are making videos for diesel enthusiasts- BUT you are making me a diesel enthusiast by watching your channel. Great job and excellent photography!!!
i drive 64 miles round trip to work every day and my 2011 jetta tdi gets close to 50mpg, so i use less than 1.5 gallons of fuel despite my long drive, plus it has a turbo and it actually has some power so its the best of all worlds. 100% recommend, it was in the shop for maintenance so i borrowed a ford focus for a week and my fuel bill was almost double plus it has very little power. i love the tdi
I bought the exact same car as my commuter to get me back and for from Burbank to Long Beach. It's a great little car, fun to drive, pretty much loaded with options, and gets better than twice the mileage of my 6.0 liter F-350. I figure by the time I retire and stop commuting I'll be able to sell it for almost what I paid for it.
Love it. Since I retired, I've been rebuilding Diesel cars, mainly Jettas. I've got two mk4s waiting, and two mk5s ready. My daily driver is a 13 sport wagen with 215k miles, with a Diesel Cruze backup when I change out the VWs timing belt.
So what is your opinion on the desirability of TDI's now that diesel fuel is considerably more expensive than gasoline? Don't get me wrong, I really like my TDI's but I questioning the economics vs a gas VW.
I absolutely love my golf tdi. 120km every single day kerma tuned. Just a blast to drive. 200km on car now and not one single problem. Nothing. Zero. Still on original brakes
Own a 05 mk4 jetta (BEW) and just did stage 3 clutch, SMF flywheel, GT 1752 mfs, pd 150 intake, “race pipe😂😂”, clutch cables, and bushings! My other is an 04 duramax (LB7) that’s federal emission… straight piped from factory. Only duramax that came out of factory without an egr system! Dont care if its “claimed poor man” duramax….. no I love them cause I dont have to be afraid to put the throttle down and some smoke.
1.9 TDI Passat manual european wagon. Green Machine man, so much room when you push in and release the clutch. As a tall guy pretty good, not so taxing on the balls, no soggy balls at all I can manspread the hell out of that seat. Strange reason to love a car but yeah that's why I loved it. And TDIs and diesel generally are safe because you got that extra engine braking so I drove my passat like a truck, mostly engine braking even in traffic. Some of the best cars ever made. Also loved the more simple pre 2003. engines without EGR which only have the turbo or regular electric to maintain and service. 110 hp was perfect.
I own a 14 jsw love it I’ve driven it across the states twice. Gets high 30s consistently. Only problem I’ve had was clogged heater core last year vw wouldn’t cover it. I’m convinced it was from sitting in a holding lot for 1 to 2 years
I have a 2014 passat TDI. Looked at a few jetta TDI wagons, but the passat just has more leg room. I can still average 600+ miles on a tank, cruising at 75mph. I love my passat. My only gripe is that totally stock, it tops out at 113.
I just ordered a 2014 tdi sportwagen with a manual transmission. I'm looking forward to seeing your build as it progresses. I'm planning on installing a s&b intake right away.
Bought my daughter a bright red tdi w 100k for 7k in 2020 .right as car prices went insane .so far we are extremely happy with it . Only issue we had is heater core went but was repaired under warranty.best part when we bought we didn’t know it had factory warranty till 125k! So we lucked out there
My 2011 Sportwagen 6speed has been a blast (except when the sensor on the high pressure fuel pump failed and my mechanic couldn’t source just that sensor). These are so nice and reliable. I’m planning on fully deleting the exhaust system and tuning up. Some day.
In 2018 I bought a 2013 golf TDI with less than 29000 miles on it for under $12000. Have 65000 on it now. Average 41-42 mpg combined city and highway. Love this car like he said in the video best car deal around!
I have a 2015 TDI Turbo Sportwagon. I live an hour west of Philladelphia, so I'm driving a mix of suburban and highway driving. I get 32 to 36 mpg locally, 45-50 highway. The 32 mpg was a hilly 7 mile commute in really cold weather, at least by Philly suburbes standards: 12 to 20 degrees F - coldest snap in the two years I've owned it. My poor engine never even got fully warmed up on the coldest mornings.
They had these lots in Canada too my dad’s friend bought an old rail yard and vw ended up leasing it from this guy to store all of their cars and vw put in a chain link fence around the perimeter for no cost
Vw passat cc b6 owner 2.o tdi sport, and I, ll be straight, some say underrated car I tend to agree, has the tdi engine. I, m averaging 53.7 mpg regularly, I love my car, best car I ever owned, and I plan in keeping it, as and when, next car will be tdi also, I fully agree best used car is vw passat or golf or cc tdi, super ultra reliable, i change my filters and oil every 3000 miles, and it does wonders for the engine and runs excellently and great on pulling power, everyone is very surprised when they get in my car, its fully loaded black on black interior all the bells and whistles, and full black leather recarro seats which are very very comfortable, I def buying another later on hell I may have 2 and just keep this one, highly recommended car 👌👍👍😁
I have had three tdi's. Had my 2012 tdi jetta 6speed manual almost 4 years now. Dpf was replaced under warranty. That's the only repair/ maintenance it has needed. Love the car, 38.5mpg average and reached 52mpg on a couple road trips. I would love a passat tdi with a manual.
My 2005 Golf 1.9 Tdi has just clocked 400 000km and still goes like stink. Mind you, I have changed oil and filters every 5000km, easy to service yourself. I make also sure the timing belt is changed on time.
2013 tdi passat. Any money saved on fuel I wasted on maintenance. When things break and they do , get ready to shell out. Like 1200 for an altenator. Everything is harder to do yourself like a simple oil change or transmission fluid change. And if u dont do it yourself the shop wants 700 bucks. Plus the interior is falling apart.
I don't really understand the calculus on not making hybrid TDIs. When the whole thing went down there was no way I was getting rid of mine. 50 mpg? 230 NM torque? Would people pay an extra 1 or 2K to get what.....70 mpg? Hell yes. Hybrid diesels would be the second most energy efficient powertrain after full electric, except without with the limitations on range and charging infrastructure.
I have a 2006 Jetta TDI with the 1.9 BRM and 5-speed. I get 43 mpg overall no matter how I drive. It's a great car--comfortable, reliable, economical. Interesting that VW is selling their inventory of TDIs because I don't see any on the road here in California. Anyone else see any in the state?
I bought a 2015 three years ago. Excellent car. I don’t understand why more people don’t drive them. Much much much less expensive to own than a Tesla. One thing that I really love is only having to fuel twice a month. They also operate on synthetic oil which means you only service it every 10k miles. These cars are amazing
There was a 2012 VW TDI Wagon for sale in my area a few months ago for $4,000 with a very nicely taken care of interior and the body was good to but it had 450,000 miles on it I wish the 2017-2019 Golf Alltracks came in a TDI...
We owned a 2009 Jetta TDI with the DSG tranny for 8 years. More than once managed to get 50 MPG driving moderately in S Florida. Sadly, the buyback offer from VW plus the penalty money was too good to pass up. The car had just 103K miles when we turned it in at the dealership where it had been purchased. Still miss it.
The 2.0L TDI with the DSG is so much fun to drive. There is so much torque. I ordered the stainless steel rear bumper protector from my local VW dealership for about $120. I highly recommend it. Design wise, it completes the look of the trim and wheels on the sides and front. Yesterday I blacked out the yellow reflector lights in the front quarter panel. Changing that yellow space to black gives a more unified look. Also highly recommended... Currently I'm looking at the Banks Power Monster exhaust. It's listed at $349 on their site. I just subscribed. Looking forward to seeing the transformation!
Bought a gray golf 2 door in 6speed manual, absolutely love mine and I’m getting about 32-35 mpg but my way to work is up a hill from 2000 to 4000 above sea level
Had a 2014 and sold it back after 4 years it had low miles but they paid back just 400 less then when I bought the car. So I went out and bought (2) new 2015 jettas and 1 new 2015 golf my kids and wife love them. Jetta's get 39 around town 50 on the highway, but the golf gets less just 41 mpg on the highway.
#MakeAmericaTDIagain. Good video man my family has had TDI's since 01. Im driving our original one still, great cars, economical as hell and fun to drive even the old 90 hp alh's!
HERE IS WHY THEY DROPPED IN VALUE....the CP4 pumps fail and wipe out the injectors and fuel pumps. super expensive fix 9 grand at the dealer, parts about 3500 if you get a deal on them. But there is a FIX... install CP3 pump. but the fix is still expensive but long lasting. cost 1200-2000 if you DIY. I have no idea how much a shop would charge takes about a whole day to do. I have a video on my channel on How to do it.
If you do buy beware of the panoramic sunroof. Mine ended up breaking and was super expensive to fix. Unfortunately I was in a manic state and wasn't offered a warranty
It's coming out now that more car manufacturers were doing the same as VW with the emissions trick. I bought a 2014 Golf 2.0 tdi dsg 6 months ago... Love it!.. Oh, and it's £30 a year road tax, thanks to the emissions scandal!
I picked up a 2012 tdi Passat fully loaded absolutely mint not a single or scratch on it with 28,000 kms on it for 8500 Canadian. I didn’t need it but it was too sweet to pass up on. It’s turned into my daily and I’ve absolutely full in love with it. I have a 21 2500 High country and I’m selling and going to buy a brand new bike arteon r line tdi wagon and give the Passat tommy girlfriend on
i have an a3 tdi. its comfy, super economical, very fun and go-karty. But mine has been such an unreliable trash heap. Make sure if you get one, make sure the engine is in top tier condition
The next big market in 5-8 years will be TDI swaps into Jeeps. Way more power then the earlier PD or ALH diesels which are popular swaps in small offroaders.
I think the prices are heading back north now. I have always wanted one and finally have enough saved, after looking for a couple hours last night (March 2022 for those in the future), there are three for sale in the state of Alaska. At least that are actively listed. Two are 2007 Jetta with auto transmissions and about 170k miles, these fall well below the allotted amount that I am willing to part with, which is nice! However, they are automatics and would rather have a manual. Another is a 2012 Passat with 130k miles and manual transmission, but he wants $12k when a similar vehicle was for sale for about $3.5k less a couple years ago. With that, the Passat is in excellent shape and inflation is a thing right now, honestly, I am unsure that inflation is going back down, I personally think it is here to stay. I have the money for it but didn't want to spend that much right now. I had thought about buying one down south where my sister lives, but they are about the same price once you factor in shipping the vehicle back ($2.5k).
We have a 15 Sportwagen manual, bought it 2 yrs ago with 12k on it. Absolutely love this car! Installed a Pedal Commander and woke it right up, still have some warranty on it. Really loved the video!
This line of cars is a no brainer. Picked up a 2004 to do a series of 7000k (KM) round trips with no regrets. This i s 2021 folks.... Scroop up the inventory, it a goof value proposition. Buy blow, ride high.
even here in 2021 I have slowly seen here in southern cali in the past year come up and sold. As well I couldn't afford them previously but now thinking about getting into one either the pre 2015 VW or Audi 2.0 TDI as higher milage ones are now sub $15k
It's 120k and no time frame for the Mk6 TDI Timing belt. I had mine fail at 80k and VW covered everything under the Dieselgat warranty. Completely new engine, turbo, and HPFP. Another thing to look out for on these is the Pano roof. I have already had my entire assembly replaced under the CPO warranty. The final thing to know is that DSGs need to be serviced every 40k miles. If you do the service, the DSG should last forever!
That’s awesome they they covered the timing belt failure! VW’s warranty coverage on these cars is beyond impressive. Basically means you can just drive them and not worry about a thing!
I'm curious if anyone has had the same problems I've been having. 2014 TDI Jetta Sportwagen. battery dies at least once per day (I have had it tested and the battery/ alternator are fine. I get maybe 20 mpg highway. random power interruptions where the car just doesn't really want to move for about 10 seconds (almost like it is in some kind of a limp mode). I don't have any kind of warranty on the car and would honestly just like some help in maybe pointing me in the right direction.
You’ve definitely got some electrical gremlins going on with that one! Finding a quality VW specific shop to help diagnose it is going to be your best bet since there’s a LONG list of possible causes!
I don't know what is going on with my VW Golf Sportwagon TDI bought June 2020 with only 20 thousand miles, and I only put two thousand miles on it so total of twenty two thousand miles and it has died twice once in November and just recently Dec 2021. I bought TDI Beetle in 2009 never had issues this sportwagon is my worst nightmare.
Great video and good info on these cars. TDIs are a tempting deal right now. I often think about getting a V-10 TDI Touareg, because they're so cheap, even though I know they are absolute maintenance nightmares lol.
We just had the longblock replaced on our ‘11 JSW under the extended warranty. VW is definitely trying todo right by their customers. Have a 1.9 (ALH) and 2.0 TDI - have yet to find anything that compares to them.
I drive a 2007 manual 1.9 tdi Skoda Octavia mk2 wagon. I live in Norway though, so when I drive around my home region with shit ass terrible roads, I get 6.4L/100km (38 mpg) which I consider bad. But when I drive on good straight flat roads I can get 5.2L/100km (45 mpg)
Lol just saw this I own a cr cummins and then bought a cr vw jsw 1 yr ago lol great car tons of room and with a tune they can get over 50 mpg and still be epa friendly
