My first car was a new 2012 Aygo, the final facelift version of the previous gen. I live in South Africa and for a 22 year old newly licensed driver, it was perfect and ran on the whiff on an oil rag. Did 600km on a highway road trip averaging 120km/h and still had a quarter of fuel left in the tank. Saved me a lot on fuel, insurance and general running costs. Only problem was the rough, underpowered engine that needed to be coaxed a lot, often changing down a gear on the highway. Stick to the city and you will be just fine... This review brought back so many good memories. Thank you so much...

I wasn't young or broke when I bought my 2009 C1 - we did 100,000 miles together over 4 years and she never let me down. 15 minutes to change the oil & filter, piddly little brakes and tyres means cheap and easy to replace. Ok, it was tinny and noisy on the motorway, but it took everything I could throw at it and still turned in 55mpg. Great, great little cars. Fun to drive and fun to cane it knowing my licence wasn't in danger. Clutches went from 180mm to 190mm after March 2009 build, and the bigger clutch kits fit the older cars.

The clutch cable needs to be adjusted every service. Takes around 5 minutes to do. If this is done, the clutch lasts for as long as the car. We have Aygos in service with around 250 000kms with the original clutch. If this isn't done, the clutch will wear out fast indeed. The other thing we so go wrong with these is the o2 sensor on top of the cat, but we kit these instead of replacing them at our shop. Tbh these are excellent cars. I drive an Auris myself, but it's actually nowhere near the reliability of the Aygo. (I work at Toyota) Some tips for the DIY folks: The cheapest 10w40 engine oil (3 litres) will do fine for these and its perfectly fine to change the oil filter every 2 services. Iridium spark plugs have no problem reaching 100k miles and there's only 3 of them Cabin air filter should however be replaced every year, but these are like £5 online. Air filter can be blown out and used over without issues Adjust the clutch cable every service in order to keep the clutch from slipping and wear prematurely (10k miles is fine)

Hello,can you explain How i make the clutch to Stay longer?
@EclipseDante
@EclipseDante 4 года назад
@@aldinmuhadzic9074 In the engine bay compartment, next to the battery on the left and under the AC high- and low pressure valves (if the car has AC) there's 3 cables and 1 of them will have a black plastic nut. Use that to tighten or loosen the pedal play. You want just a little bit of play so the bearing doesnt destroy itself. Im pretty sure you can find a decent video on the interwebs and if you're not comfortable doing it, just go to your local mechanic or the Toyota dealership.

I bought a new Citroen C1 in 2009 as a delivery vehicle for my business, lots of stop start journeys. It has been a great workhorse with over 156000 miles on the clock and still going strong. It is on its second replacement clutch but apart from a broken drivers door interior handle a couple of wheel bearings , a battery and a fan belt (just snapped this week) and the usual consumables, it has been very reliable. It does use about a third of a litre of oil a week now though. Oh, the rear wash has packed up but the wiper still goes. My son learnt to drive in it and I would have given it to him once he passed his test but it wasn't cool enough for him so he bought himself a BMW! Kids!

@andrewarnell1251 2 года назад
A bit of a late response. The gearbox is actually a manual gearbox with a fancy gear selector. My wife's auto 107 required a new clutch @ 88k miles, it cost around £380 as they need to reprogram the clutch as well. Still cheaper than a clutch replacement on most cars. Other than that, we've owned it for around 35k miles so far and it has been absolutely outstanding.

Great videos! I’ve owned my 2010 Aygo for 5 years. Water was leaking through the high level rear brake light. Unscrew it, run a bead of clear silicone around it and reinstall. No more leak issues for me. Put in four new speakers and an under seat sub, and a new head unit. Sounds great now. These cars eat exhausts, but £70 fitted at my local garage. 54 mpg average over 5 years. Needed new discs and pads, new front shocks, 2 exhausts. Change the oil every 10k miles. Not had any clutch issues yet, but they were fitted with stronger clutches after 2010. If you have an air conditioned model, don’t forget to change the pollen filter (above passenger seat footwell). Most comfortable car I’ve ever owned. Driven 250miles in a day, can get out with no aches or pains. My air con still runs cold. Great little car. Oh, and never had any issues with the parcel shelf or indicator stalks. Currently at 88k miles

This is a really great feature of this channel - the variety. Nothing's more boring than a car channel that just does the same old performance vehicles. To me, cars like this one are equally as interesting, just for different reasons. Building something for a price is just as hard - or harder - than building for speed, with money no object.

Just as a PSA: I had a 12 plate Aygo as my first car, and I had the leaky boot issue. But I found the problem wasn't the boot seal, but actually the lights. The rear light clusters are completely unsealed and there's quite a panel gap around them, so water quite freely trickles through them and into the boot. I (and I reckon most people) only noticed this when the carpet became so sodden that the water started to soak into the lining around the sides, which is what led to the condensation and smell. I also had issues with water ingress through the high level brake light - again, totally unsealed, and the lens had actually warped, creating a perfect passage for water to pool in the headlining. It got so bad that it messed with the electrics, and I had intermittent issues with lights flickering or stopping working. Once I'd sealed all the lights with silicone putty, I never had a problem again. They're bulletproof cars mechanically, but they are built to a price, and the extreme cost-cutting measures do become painfully evident at times!

Is this also true for the C1's and 107's? The Aygo has a different design on the rear, with different lights and glass hatch. I have a C1 from 2010 with only 44000km (27 000 miles) on it. When I got it there was some water under the carpet where the spare wheel is, but there hasn't been water in there since. Still, if there's something that I can do to prevent it from leaking in the future I'd happily do it, as I live in Norway where It's either snowing quite heavily or raining buckets.

I ended up learning to drive quite Late (at 30) and when my partner upgraded her motor, I inherited her old 2011 Citroen C1 (named "Joey") Initially I thought "Yeah I'll use him for a month or two until I can get myself something a bit more fruity". But you know what, it's 8 months since I got him and I haven't planned to get rid of him yet. Absolutely brilliant little car! Yes, you need to give him serious beans to get him going since the clutch is pretty weak; and if you're carrying passengers, a prayer will be necessary to get up a hill. But that engine is pretty much bullet proof, sips fuel and the handling is solid enough that you can have a lot of fun round a nice B-road!

Bought the Citroen C1 (same car) for my wife 5 years ago after a disastrous Mercedes A class . Best car I’ve ever bought. Serviced it last year for £40, changed front discs and pads £30. New tyres £36 each. Insurance is £110 per year. 50-60mpg. Zero road tax, clutch is much better on 2012 models onwards - they added a better clutch. Replaced a damaged seatbelt - Citroen wanted £400, did it myself for £30. No cam belt to change either. Forgot to mention - my daughter had the Peugeot version - managed to put it straight through a double brick garden wall - leaving the car balancing on the wall. Total cost - £70 for a recovery to lift it off. £30 to repair the clips on the front bumper, £300 to repair the wall.

All electric windows, heated mirrors, auto a/c and the list goes on! Best car to be used as a daily driver/beater. Chain driven engine. At one point even loaded a whole sofa in it because it's SUPER practical. Nowdays, one that's in worse condition costs 3.5k-4k which is mad, and I can't say that inflation is to blame.

I have two anecdotes about my Aygo 1) On several occasions I calculated I got 65 miles to the gallon - the thing ran on fumes. 2) Once the check oil light came on on the dash so I brought it to my garage, when they pulled the dipstick in, there was no (or practically no) oil in the sump, I felt terrible because I like to think I don't mistreat my cars, but the thing had been putting along with no indication (at least not that I could see) that anything was amiss until the light blinked on, no blue smoke or any strange sounds, the garage filled up the oil and the little trooper carried on like nothing had happened. Only traded it in once we had a baba, and I still think we could have fitted the seat in (the car has iso fix, but it was a rear facing seat and it was right up against the driver seat).

The very small clutch wears quickly due to the featherlight flywheel not giving a noticible biting point for most drivers to judge. Unburstable otherwise in all badge variants. Only problems I've experienced are boot seals as mentioned and the indicator stalks fail at older age..and that about it. Easy to work on and cheap to repair.

The engine is the best part about the whole car. It's a daihatsu derived 3 cylinder engine. Service it regularly and it will hit 200k no problem.

I currently have a C1 3 door as my first car. I use(d) it to drive to uni in London, very good car, 20 quid road tax, costs nothing to run, the only thing I've had to do is a couple of tires and some oil. Enough power for the city, bit of a pain for the motorway, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

What a great review. I’m suddenly in need of a small, cheap runaround and settled on the Aygo over the C1 and 107 because I’m tired of constantly trying to keep the black exterior trim looking nice on my old camper van , which I still have and will still have to do. The colour coded bumpers and lack of black trim was the decider. I’m looking at one tomorrow so I really appreciate you pointing out all the bad points to look out for. Thanks.

I started to laugh when I saw this, as my wife has had a 107 Envy from new, when we bought it back in April 2011. We had always changed her car every 3 years or so, but when she got the 107, she fell in love with it and has just never wanted to change it (which is great for me, as it's saved me thousands over the past 9 years) she has never had any of the problems that you mentioned, but she has only done about 25k since we bought it. She actually looks after better than she does me (and I'm not joking), this car is immaculate in every way and it looks like she will be keeping it for a fair few years to come (again saving me even more money). Apart from tyres, brake pads and servicing, this car has cost me absolutely nothing since it was bought new. So yeah, I agree with you Matt, it's a great first car for anyone. This type of video is just what we need at this time, as so many of us are stuck at home with not a lot to do, but to watch RU-vid videos to keep us entertained and that is exactly what you are doing. In saying that, and I hope you don't mind this self-plug Matt, but I have been trying to put out a lot more content on my channel to hopefully relieve some of the boredom for other folks. If you don't want people like me advertising their own channels here, just delete this post Matt (I will totally understand) and if you do allow it to stay, thank you very, very much as it will also help to build my channel.

I've had my 2012 Aygo for 6 years and haven't had any of those issues, it looks brand new inside it's well looked after though. The only thing I'm worried about now is if the disinfectants I'm using in the car could potentially damage some of the materials inside the car (like the leather on the steering wheel). I can get about 550 miles on a tank (I try not to go over 500 though, usually I fill up at 450 before it goes onto reserve), the car is returning MPG figures in the region of 70mpg though (The year to date average is 71.4mpg currently according to Fuelly) driven on 50/50 city/country roads, although I can actually average 80-90mpg in city driving because you can coast in fuel cut off mode more, plus this car can hold the MPG at 90mpg to maintain 30mph, it even manages to maintain 80mpg at a steady 20mph (although if you drop into 2nd gear the economy tanks down to 40mpg, which is required below 20mph). My best trip MPG for city driving was 105mpg, the best case for country roads is 80mpg, but it's extremely difficult to get over 74mpg on national speed limits. Personally I see this car as proof of how badly hybrids are designed. I wish they'd release an Aygo with the same engine but electric assisted like the original Honda Insight.

I remember about 4 years ago, had a prang in my focus and was given a Peugeot 108 newer version of the trio at the time, had privacy glass, electric windows, rear view camera and took it on motorway to visit my partner, thought it was nippy for a 1 litre, turns out I was given the top spec model with 1.2 litre, very quick as was a light small car, and I remember once I got to partners road, only a tiny space left and even then thought it was too big, yet even with camera couldn't believe I'd get it in space, but I did easily, my own car was a lot bigger and I would of had to park in another road if I had been driving my original car, it was a good little car, even thought about getting one, until I realised I needed a bigger car because I always filled my boot.

My wife had the 107 automatic as her first car £20 RFL and average of 45 mpg with lead boot. We had to replace the clutch which is double the price of the manual and you need the diagnostic-tool to reset the clutch actuator which also advise to do yearly when the car is serviced or the gear changes go out of sync. The car had its faults but was a very good car. But just something to mention on the 5 door model they had the bonding on the back windows fail which happened to us and nearly fell out onto the motorway which up to very recently the three manufacturers were still honouring it so watch out for that and on the automatic the throttle pedal sticking which Toyota recalled Citroen and Peugeot didn’t. But like you said it’s the car I have recommended to most of my friends for there sons and daughters as there first cars

Just 4 miles from us three twenty somethings had a car pull out in front of them and in the resultant crash all three eventually died. There is not a lot of mass between you and certain death if something hits you or vice versa. Just before Christmas an idiot pulled out of a side turning and ran into the back of my Wife's Peugeot 107, writing it off. I drove a Peugeot 107 today. I was surprised. It wasn't as slow or as noisy as I expected. I loved the simplicity of the interior. New cars are far too complicated and complex. I just need a steering wheel, heater, radio, indicators and windscreen wipers. The clutch was beautifully positioned and the action was really light. The gearchange was a bit sloppy but it changed ok. I didn't feel small on the road at all. It was a really nice motorcar. As for not being able to pull women in it, well don't put any money on that because in my experience women love cute little cars.

Short answer! Yes! We have a lovely 2007 Blue, it drives very good, it is lively, very reliable, still looks like new and spends next to nothing In terms of fuel. We had some trouble with the starter or ignition, a small infiltration and a problem with the exhaust. The car is now close to 180.000km and the engine is as new. It can handle any road and I would not use it only for long highway drives or going up steep mountains not because it can't handle that but because we have other cars better suited for that. Oh about the clutch... Ours is still the original one. Metallic blue, alloy wheels, roof racks for bikes and it looks awesome!

@@HighPeakAutos to be honest, I am curious about taking it for a longer road trip, like 300 or 400km just to see how it handles. I think it will be ok, just expecting 2 bad things: 1- if I have to do one of those back roads, those twisty ones, there isn't much support from the seats; 2 - 300km in a speedway... I expect that the engine sound starts to be tiresome. But that's it. That car, specially in blue is a bit of a T.A.R.D.I.S. goes much further, drives much faster and it is much bigger on the inside than you would expect it to be. I sometimes say it is bigger on the inside than outside!
