You can say what you like about Chinese firms taking over “western” business but they saved Volvo and allowed them to make exactly the kind of cars swedes make so well. Unlike GM with Saab. Volvo now make the finest interiors hands down. And their entire range look the business

Volvos may grow on you as you grow older ... I'd take a Jaguar over a Volvo any day of the week. And I know they are not as reliable, but the design, feeling, driving pleasure and provenance just make Jaguars so desirable. And the respect you get in traffic is unbeatable (as opposed to BMW, for instance, towards which hate is just pouring ...).

I love my V90 d4 inscription. The s90 you have is the inscription pro that has the extra gadgets like heads up, camera system and blind spot. Do miss the power and handling of my 2014 BMW 535D M Sport tourer, but not much else. V90 is an excellent motorway cruiser. I average 50mpg in mine compared to 30 in the BMW and so far no faults and the BMW had lots of them once engine out to change timing chain tensioners.

Brandon Maze Performance isn’t necessarily top of my list. Typically I drive German autos but thought I’d take a look at a Volvo to save some cash, but was surprised to find little price difference. With the exception of the Subaru boxer which whilst characterful is unfortunately unrefined there isn’t a 4 cyl on the market that is worth it to me. Once you’ve had a V6 or a V8 a 4, (especially a diesel), is an awful thing to sit behind. I’d be equally dismissive of a German 4 cylinder engine.

If I wasn't straightly interested in the Lexus LS 500h (the full-size sedan with the Shiatsu massage function for the back seats and a multimedia system with the blu ray player) I would probably be stuck between this and the XF! @shughume 2 года назад
@@josephwood499 Hello Joseph. I'm due to change my Volvo any day now. Here's a run down of the pros and cons. *Pros*: It's exceptionally comfortable and smooth to drive, especially when put into Eco mode. It makes effortless progress and eats up the motorway miles without hesitation. Gear changes are barely noticeable. It's also very spacious, 4 adults and luggage fit no problem. I find the infotainment system really very straight forward and easy to use (I had noted some reviewers said it was overly complicated but that just simply hasn't been my experience) and the ability to link your phone to the car and remotely open or start it is a great feature, especially in winter as it means you get into a toasty car. It feels very sure footed. It's no BMW, of course, but it can handle itself well with good body control. But I find that the driving dynamics encourage one to just have a pleasant and relaxing cruise rather than blasting about the place. I tend to drive very gently and calmly as a result. I still think it's a very good looking car, inside and out. *Cons*: Even with it always in Eco Mode and driving gently, using the stop/start etc, I struggle to get above 31 MPG in mixed driving conditions. Far off the 40-odd Volvo claim. Upon first impression, I found the car to be well screwed together. However, after 18,000 or so miles, the car is plagued with a variety of trim rattles and squeaks. One in particular, behind the dashboard, required 3 separate visits to Volvo, including them removing the whole dash, but to no avail. I was given the car back and told to let it "develop" more. I grew very tired with the level of customer service at the Volvo dealer here in Glasgow so I've just learned to live with it and the other rattles as I don't want to deal with them anymore. But they drive me mad. So much so I'm looking to change the car now. I believe this problem isn't as prevalent in the Swedish built V90's, but the S90's are built in China and I know I'm not alone in finding fit and finish issues. Lastly, and it's a small one, but whilst the infotainment system is easy to use, upon first start up of the car, it's very slow and laggy and takes a good few mins to boot up properly and get up to speed. And whilst the app is good, it isn't perfect and sometimes fails to communicate with the car randomly. Other than it's standard first service (which I had done at Voltech, a Volvo Independent Specialist here in Glasgow that I would highly recommend) I haven't had any other service costs. All-in-all it's been a good car, and I enjoy it.... If only it didn't squeak and buzz over every tiny little bump! Hope that helps.

The D5 is definitely worth the premium imo. Not for the bhp increase but more so for its responsiveness. The D5 has 'powerpulse' technology which is essentially an air compressor which always keeps the turbos spooled, reducing nearly all turbo lag, delivering more power, earlier. It really does work brilliantly. Secondly the D5 gives the car AWD opposed to the D4's fwd set up. There are also about 5x as many D4's than D5's so residuals theoretically should be better. Returning the premium you lay out initially.

Enjoy your reviews but disagree with the minimalist 'no button' trend that manufacturers are adopting these days. Rotary knobs for temperature, buttons for heated seats and air distribution are quickly learnt and aren't distracting. Only benefit IMO is cost saving for manufacturers.

Great review. I’ve been looking at these for quite a while and think the D5 inscription is fab., great ride and superb interior. As you say it’s not all about 0-60 in 4 seconds and boring black German interiors. It’s nice to see Volvo being different and catering for other tastes too, although I was also looking at the VW Arteon too (with boring black interior!).

My 2017 Astra can keep itself in lane, to be honest though, it's not the best system and it actually just does a very good impression of a drunk driver, I've played with it a couple of times, and while it does keep you in lane, it kind of drifts from line to line. It also doesn't let you change lanes without indicating, not a problem normally but when you're in roadworks and it changes lane and you have to indicate or angrily yank the wheel, it makes you look a bit of a tit. I did have a Hyundai Tucson hire car just before the Apocolypse started, the car was mostly crap, but it had a really good lane assist system, it could genuinely keep you bang in the centre of the lane, it told you off after about 15 seconds though, which became annoying so I just drove it myself.

I’m really enjoying working through these reviews, they are excellent. I would respectfully disagree with you about buttons vs touchscreens though. I would far rather have more buttons - you eventually instinctively learn where they are so you don’t need to take your eyes off the road. Touchscreens you are forced to stare at it whilst you navigate the menus. I’m confident you can do this safely, but I really do find it breaks the flow of my driving a bit. Bring back buttons!!

The technology is great ,that I pad screen is marvellous. Some say it’s dangerous to change things when you’re driving but it has voice command which works very well . The T5 is AWD so great in the snow as well and I get around 29 mpg around town . Servicing costs me around £30.00 a month for three years . There’s just something about the way a Volvo wafts up the road, it just totally relaxes you. I’ve also got a BMW M4, and I’ve only done 2,000 miles in that because I rarely feel the need to get out of the Volvo, it just does everything so well.
