Just getting back to the hobby, it's cool they dropped the yellow borders in favor of the platinum one to make it look modern and on par with Japanese cards. The promo card for each ETB makes it a must-have for any collection!
Depending on the value of the promo card, you’re probably getting a better deal on etb’s now even with the $10 increase, taking into consideration that the packs are increased by 50 cents each.
The six-in-one packs are $26; that puts 12 at $52, which is a good value for cards. No extras, but if you’re solely buying for cards, that’s best per-$ value at present. The extras….eh. May not be worth the $!
Good god..it's such a beautiful aesthetic all around-the-clock with this set. The artwork, the illustrations of the box and the mood it creates, it's charming.
Its not even out a week and the prices dropped insane. Keep it sealed and buy the cards you need . Opening scarlet and violet Will often Will cost you money then make some
Your opinion is valid regarding the price/value but increases in price were inevitable and they’re doing a nice job of compensating for it. They could’ve increased price and given us nothing extra

For the most part you're probably right. But there also large movements of people who don't like the grey borders while others don't like how the standard ex cards look like the fakes out there in the past ten years. Some people don't like how the holos and reverses are just bulk now while others don't like that the price went up. Based on all the convos I've seen and been a part of it looks like a 70/30 split with 30% not liking the new sets.
I agree. I honestly love this set, I love the artworks, the grey borders and it just has crazy pull rates. This set got me more into Pokémon after kinda awhile of a hiatus.

Same, I have quite a few of the Pokémon center etbs, I’m so glad I still have 1 of each of the evolving skies Pokémon center etbs, probably my best turnaround right there.
I have to say they also ramped up the packs with a Holo in every pack and 2 reverses. I would much rather have an extra pack a promo and more shine lol than having say an evolving skies etb where I didn’t pull anything.
i got this week a silver tempest etb and i only pulled one vulpix v, yesterday i bought a scarlet etb and i got the full art arcanine twice and a golden fighting energy

I take my chances with the hanger boosters everytime.....I always pull something good. So far the Umbreon VMAX alt art and the Charizard V alt art, both from random hanger packs!!!
Man...that Moonbreon is literally the last Eeveeloution Vmax I need and my collection would be complete! Yet, it's getting harder to find Evolving Skies single packs, at least in my area! Probably just gonna have to save up and buy it outright.
Hi!! I can answer that!! I'm Portuguese and the regular ETBs go for around 45 Euros with tax wich is around 49 USD, roughly the same price as others before... For example, Crown Zenith was 50 Euros but had 10 booster packs... The Pokémon Center ETBs are another story, they are around 120 Euros, about 130 USD... I would love to buy 1 of each to keep sealed but it's completely out of question at that price...
To be fair, with the .50 cent price increase per pack with just 8 that would make the ETB worth $44. Plus add the new pack and that puts it at about $48-49. I’m not happy about the increase still. Even with the increased pull rates
opened a booster box got 1 gold fighting energy, plenty of crappy iron treads and oinkologne cards and only really one nice card the Gardevoir Ex.. small sample size obviously.. I had plenty of reverse holos and holos that seem just meh.. average set unless you get lucky with the gallery/secret rares etc. The commons look so much better though with the silver border and art style I will give them that. It's a decent set but I'm excited to see better big pulls in the future
We have to take into account the unfortunate (for us consumers) price increase of Pokemon TCG though. I'm from the UK so my examples might be a bit off, but will still use $: $4*8 packs = $32 $4.50*9 packs = $40.50 Previous RRP (MSRP) rated the remaining contents of the ETB at $8 without a promo. The ScVi onward ones rate it at $9.50 with a promo. So, I think the overall comparison is largely similar, if not slightly better because I think those promos are worth more than $2 to most collectors. Just my opinion! Obviously, no one is happy about having to pay more, but it's understandable.
I don t understand how for u the 10 dollar increase seems too much: if all the booster increase by 50 cents now 9 packs cost u 49.5 dollars and plus have a promo inside. So the value remain the same as before or even increase. The etb never had the same value of a box but now at least have 1 more esclusive thing.
You dont take into account the price increase of all pokemon product 50 cent per pack so a etb old style would cost 4$ more so is a promo and a pack worth 6$ i think it will depend on the promo
I opened mine yesterday and i pulled the Arcanine ex (ultra rare?), professor's research sada ( ultra rare?) And kirlia ( illustration rare?). So yeah , i was happy with that result because i've opened etb' s with not a single pull. Btw... if i made some mistakes with he names or rarity, i'm sorry but i'm not an expert with those things😅.
it's understandable if you consider inflation though But i agree! $10 is too much. I would have preferred if the ETB stayed exactly the same but the price was $45!
Walmart selling etb for $55, bundle for $28, 3 pack blister for $15+ and sleeved for $4.49 before tax. With tax it is just too much, not sure about Target prices tho. One of my lcs actually sell for less than retail, $45 for etb, $22 for bundle and around $3.66 for a pack, guess I'll stick to lcs than retail store.
Dude, I’m so mad. I just took on a manager position at work and I figured I have more money to play with for Pokémon cards but cost of living went up and msrp for cards went up so it’s basically the same still 😒
I honestly can't see the value with it being $20 more in Australia. I only got into the TCG a few months ago but maybe I'll dip out when I can no longer buy Sword and Shield packs.
Meijers has a deal "buy one at full price. Get the next for 50% off on all trading cards." Gonna go that route if I buy these. The sale goes until April first.
@@matth6707 same shit everyone said about evolutions because it was a reprint, now I hold 10 booster boxes and they are selling for 1200. Lol. Been doing this since 2004. Pokémon cards paid off my house, and I’m currently in the works of buying an investment property to rent out. Here’s a tip for you, always buy first edition in bulk. No matter what you hear, no matter if you think you know more than anyone else. I’ll make sure to come back to this message a few years from now just to clown on you some more.

Wow, this is disappointing. For $50 I think they should have 10 packs. Even at $4.50/pack now, that’s still an extra $5 to cover the promo and “extra goodies” inside. $50 for 9 packs feels really steep at over $5/pack. That Koraidon promo is stunning though
I wish the sleeves were clear & not the cloudy ones. I can’t use them for playing or storing because they make holo cards look ugly. Or maybe get rid of sleeves altogether and put 12 packs instead. Etb’s right now are basically 9 packs & a bunch of useless junk. Pretty bad deal imo
You are really paying $40 for the 9 packs so that is $4.45 a pack. You're paying $5 for the sleeves than the other $5 covers the rest of the stuff inside including the promo and the box itself which makes for a great storage box. 50 dollars seems rather reasonable to me.
The increase from $40 to $50 is just keeping in line with inflation. ETBs were $40 for a long time. Year over year inflation has added up in that time. It just feels like a sudden price increase because they did the price jump all at once rather than incrementally over the years. Put another way - $50 today probably feels no different than what $40 felt like when ETBs were first priced at $40 however many years ago.
