More noodling / Less talking. Haters going to hate. Your playing is so soothing. Keep up the great work. Thank you for sharing your time and talent with us!
Hahaha, thanks. I don’t understand when people complain. I only buy a library when I’ve seen it put through it’s paces. Why would you want me to talk more? Lol
Dude you're absolutely killing it!! I could hear you play forever! Always a true pleasure to watch your video because getting such a talented musician as a youtuber is actually really rare I would be so grateful if in your next videos, you could pick up a standard, play it in those crazy way like you always do and explain what you're doing...many people do that on the internet but they are honestly not as good as you are! Anyway, just proposing;) but keep going with this mad content you're giving to the world!!
To stop playing middle C when choosing a keyboard, click the little down arrow to the side of the audition button. It's the right most button underneath the list of keyboards. You will know it will stop playing middle C each time when the outline around the button is gone. It looks like a play button.
I just feel like there are so many phenomenal sounds for (in relative terms) not a ton of money. For the money some people spend on a Nord or a Korg workstation, you could have Keyscape, Omnisphere, Ravenscroft, Pianoteq, some NI stuff, all of which sound way better imo and will probably stay top tier for quite a few years
I agree with this one. I have a Nord Stage and had a Yamaha MODX as well. Since moving to StudioLogic SL88, my MacBook Pro and Keyscape, etc., I’m loving the setup much more! Don’t think I’ll buy into the pricey hardware any longer (like Nord).
@@SamTheBeardGuy I would love a video on your live setup though, I think a lot of people go to workstations because they're scared of a laptop being slow or going down and I think a good live rig walkthrough could be really clarifying and cool!
These VSTs do sound amazing these days, but ALWAYS keep a good soundiing hardware backup for when the Computer Gods see fit for the end of life on earth for your PC (or Mac)🕊🙏🏽. Also if your if it crashes while playing live. 🥲😅
I have Keyscape and NI Noire, and that's a killer combo for any piano player. One thing I often try in production, is record the midi and layer both NI and Keyscape. Noire with a little bit of C7 Grand is awesome for depth. and Noire felt with a Rhodes classic chorus is weird at the beginning, but when you get the balance right it sounds amazing and very useful in any contemporary pop, RnB or Fusion jazz kind of thing. have a ball and try some of that.
I bought Keyscape quite a while ago. I have a 2009 iMac and don't have a clue how to install it with these drives it came with(I should've bought the download version) I was at My friend Jay Rowe's new house and had a tour of Keyscape(Jay is a world renowned keyboard player). My jaw hit the floor! The sounds it can do left Me floored! It's inspiring!! I must get it in My computer. Thanks for sharing this video! Have a nice weekend.
When you start modulating around 27:56 it’s soooooo sick!! I’ve gotta learn how to do that bro. I’m gonna start calling you Sam the Fire Man because you’re on fire brother 🔥🔥🔥🔥🤣👏🏾
Hello. I've been a subscriber for a few months now. Love your playing and singing. Always learning musically from you. I do have Keyscape. I purchased it a few years ago. I'm also a blind musician, and the fact that the interface isn't accessible for blind users is really bad. For a long time, my dad and I would find my favorite presets and I would save them in the library browser in Logic so I could access them more easier. I do use Voiceover, which is a screen reader built into Apple devices. Last year, I discovered that a developer made NKS presets for Keyscape, which is great because I could use those to access and control the sounds from my Native Instruments MIDI controller. About a few days ago, I discovered Hammer's + Waves, and I immediately got excited. Not because of the sounds and features, but also it was NKS ready out the box. Can't wait to use that pluggin... Maybe it will become my go to all in one piano and keyboard library. It sure sounds amazing! Keep up the amazing work.
Thanks for your post. I actually am not super familiar with NKS, so your comment made me read into a little bit more. Glad you're able to find software that you're able to use.
I Love Keyscape and use it a lot, but I agree with the "compressed" feeling, I often find myself looking if I have somewhere a compressor kicking in to hard, but then with everything off, it still feels compressed. It feels then as that what I hear is not reflecting what I play (in terms of dynamics). I started using the Grandeur more often, as I really like the sound of it, and it does not give me that compressed perception.
The problem when you are reviewing stuff is that everything sounds amazing, your playing is outstanding! 😊 And because of that I bought Keyscape. But I don’t like it that much to be honest. As you are pointing at, it’s too produced. I mean it sounds like a toy piano in the midrange when playing the rock preset. And the bass register on the default setting is just a muddy bass. And the upright, not like it at all. My goto is The Grandeur, to me the tone and power you get from it is like from a real grand, and I think it’s so underrated. But in the end it depends on the tune. I’m sure I will use Keyscape on some recordings one day. Again, you are such s great pianist!!! 👍🏻
I've had Keyscape about a year and have pretty moderate feelings about it overall. The grand is outstanding for some things, like jazz, ballads, intimate or cinematic styles. But really doesn't work for me for solo piano pieces in more of a classical style. I've written some pieces that I just couldn't use it on. Could be partly because, as mentioned, it's produced, and I want something more raw. Or I want something more ambient and you can't change the mic positioning. Also, the lowest couple octaves have barely any attack. I couldn't use it on a ragtime piece because there was no definition in some of the bass notes. I've also had issues with glitching occurring occasionally when I pedal. I haven't heard anybody else experience this exactly. May be an issue with my system, but it's irritating. The upright I really don't care for. Though I have used the tack version which is nice. It feels way more like a novelty, niche thing, which would be fine but it's the only one in the library. Nord has a very nice collection of colorful and very usable uprights that I prefer. The electric pianos are just phenomenal, nothing more to say. Overall still well worth the purchase (not even mentioning all the cool little weird keyboards in there), but far from never needing another keyboard VST.
I agree with everything you said. The upright is very niche. But it's not the upright for everything. I love modernu and gentleman for a more normal upright. Electrics are unmatched imo. And I would never advocate using Keyscape for classical music, not the vibe. Thanks for watching!
womderful playing as always and for me i love keyecape i had to upgrade from 8 to 16 gb ram and has suprisingly helped alot with those weird pitch shifting microtonal cpu overload im still having trouble updating it had to have one of there pros mirror my laptop and help me set it up but now for the price of one hardware item say 650 i was able to purchase abelton live 10 suite keyscape v collection 8 and NI KOMPLETE 13 its amazing how far theyve come i stopped writing music with a computer after highschool using fruity loops i could and would write entire albums in a single night and i got an old cubase right before i fell of the tracks got strung out and lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in my vintage collectiom from wurly 200s to 60s deluxe reverbs pedal steels 46 gibson es-125 with the single p-90 man i hate thinking about it but now the fact i can play almost any instrument doesnt matter because vst's have about made it obsolete to have to learn each instrumemt im glad i have the physical instruments though it helps my overall muscianship an od left me with compartment syndrome a 99% chance of death complete organ failure heart attack put on dyialisis all a month after turning 30 i had drop wrist and foot it was the most gruesome recovery i couldnt walk took months to get off a walker and on a cain but this november past was 5years and threw such painful physical rehabitation stretching my hand and fingers and after about months i started picking the guitar again then a drumset again and now i may not have the same cool vintage name brand crap i have a house full of instrumemts and work everyday to become a better musician and song writer i still limp but have surpassed everything they thought possible three seperate deaths coma 99% chance of death im.supposed to be a vegtable but im glad to be here to commit on your elegent playing thanks for your hard work
Keyscape is worth it...for me, at least...simply for the MKS-20 samples, which are amazing. Frankly, I use Ivory and Pianoteq and NI plugs more often than not for piano, but, Keyscape's samples are eclectic and fill a void that I need in my life. I wouldn't necessarily say it's a "must have", but, i grew up with the hardware MKS-20, and I love that sound, esp. layered...
I love Keyscape for it's E-pianos (Rhodes, Wurlitzer), not so much for the LA Grand C7. For pianos, my go-to VSTIs are the Embertone Walker 1955 and Noire. I prefer the warmer tone of the latter two. I love how the notes I play blend with each other using these two. That said, these two do not cut through a mix well -- something which the Keyscape does with ease.
Thats simple YES! I have my Keyscape and controller setup, a Kronos, Roland RD and Keyscape is my favorite. If I gigged more, hey I'm retired so mainly play at home then maybe I'd would like the Kronos or RD since their sounds are more about cutting thru in a band. I would say Yamaha sound are also geared towards live. CPU wise never noticed a issue and I'm using an older iMac. For me it's the fullness of the acoustic piano sound that sold me. As for the electric pianos I like quite a few, but not all. Also I live in an apartment and for awhile had a real acoustic piano and volume was always a problem so I got rid of it and got my Keyscape and good woodkey controller and love I can play at any hour and complaints. So that was another big plus for me and Keyscape.
The only issues I've had with Keyscape and CPU is when it's being streamed through a slow USB connection. If it's running off the local harddrive it's fine. The fullness of the grand is amazing, granted some people hate that.
I was so used to the NI pianos that at first I wasn't particularly impressed with Keyscape. But it grew on me the more I used it and now I rarely use NI pianos. Another interesting thing I found is I can leave Keyscape running for days. NI's Kontact develops odd issues in memory just sitting overnight. And if anyone knows how to turn off that tone in Keyscape when you select a piano please share. That is super annoying!
@@SamTheBeardGuy It's supposed to play you a single note preview of the patch when you're browsing from one, without having to load the whole thing. Really the only reason it's there is because they copied it straight from Omnisphere where you have thousands of patches.
Interesting video (with greate playing)... I'm still sitting on the fence waiting but now I think the time has come for me I WANT TO BECOME A "KEYSCAPER" - Thank You for posting!
C7 is tad bright for me.. but still sounding fantastic overall. Perhaps after post production, it could be warmed. I bet it cuts through a mix as is with ease... Also, great playing and vocals. Very nice.
This was outstanding, my friend! Thanks for sharing! Are you in a position to be able to comment on the installation process of Keyscape on Logic Pro X? I'm on the cusp of purchasing the product, but I've read some reviews from customers stating that it's a real pill to install. Blessings!
I'm not sure what people would find challenging with it. You don't technically install anything in Logic Pro X, you install it on your computer and then Logic Pro X connects to it, just like any other DAW. I wouldn't worry about that
Dont have any experience with Keyscape, but ive been interested for a long time. Due to the price I never bought it. In the meantime I've discovered soooo many cheaper beautiful alternatives: Sampleson reed 200 & reed 106, the free LABS instruments, Felt instruments, various Kontakt instruments
There are a lot of great options out there that are cheap and recorded well. Keyscape is so expensive because of all the options. I wish they would sell only the C7 at $99
I'll be honest, I don't like Keyscape as much as I thought I would. The piano doesn't even have repedaling, una corda and sostenuto both do nothing when you use them on a keyboard pedal controller and I've found the touch curve and dynamic range is very displeasing after playing better VSTs. This is obviously being quite harsh, I won't say that Keyscape is BAD but it's not as good as other piano VSTs in the same price range.
Yeah, I've said it a lot in my videos on Keyscape, but it's a producers piano, so it's not going to have the features you're talking about. Half pedal, all of those things, it's missing, but it's not going for that market. Same thing with dynamic range, it's not going for the market that is looking for a realistic wide dynamic range. Not sure if you played around with the dynamic range presets, it has a pretty extensive catalog of keyboard controllers to load the velocity curve presets for the specific piano.
@@SamTheBeardGuy Yeah I've screwed with the touch curve some, I have a Casio Celviano so it has a completely different response with the real hammer action and everything. You are definitely right about this being a producer's keyboard, most people won't notice the slightly inferior aspects of this VST anyway
@@SamTheBeardGuy If you have to choose one of those, which one it would be? Ive been looking these two and can’t decide. I appreciate good keybed feel and im using it with keyscape and other vst’s. Have you found problems with D1 dynamics (controlling velocity)? Thanks!
Good stuff again man. Oh, the patch playing at each new sound is a feature and can be turned off. Inside Keyscape -> next to the play button, you'll see a down arrow, saying autoplay, turn it off there. Use to annoy me too. :)
That would explain a lot! The way it was behaving was abnormal though. It was sustained and the volume spiked to max. If that's the feature then that's weird.
@@SamTheBeardGuy Yea I had to call Spectrasonics to figure it out after I myself found it weird. It's the first thing I turn off when going to a new machine. I just upgraded as well. Thought I'd share and save you the headache. I believe the reasoning is for those who want to hear a preview of the sound before playing it. But am not sure why anyone wouldn't just play the sample :)
I like Rhodes various presets of Netscape but playing a lot of classical music 19 th and 20th century ( ravel , Debussy…) the fact that Keyscape doesn’t support neither half pedalling, soft pedal or sustenato pedal is a deterrent. Majority of advanced pieces of late 19th or 20th century require the use of these pedals .Lot of Chopin pieces require soft pedal and half pedalling if you want to achieve a credible performance, so I simply don’t get it . Sometimes you can get away from sustenato with good half pedalling technique as the lower register gets sustained longer than upper notes with half pedalling but not not supporting either of these indispensable parts of piano playing is very odd. Even in jazz , advanced pianists use the soft pedal for tone change . Keyscape seems to target the cinematic world where the sustain seems to be the only pedal used. But again kudos for the electric sounds , they are top notch , and well done for your videos !
Hey Sam, nice playing! I'll be honest, after spending about half a year with Pianoteq 7 I just can't go back to sampled pianos. There's just something about the modelling they've achieved (especially in version 7) that to my (classically trained jazz pianist) hands feels so real, that I could never get with any other sampled library. As far as Rhodes, my favourite right now is the MK1 from Premier Sound Factory. I love it because it's not so pristine and clear like Keyscape and Scarbee Classic EP-88s and others. So I've kinda given up on Keyscape, and I'm much happier now with Pianoteq and the Mk1. Have you tried these at all? Cheers!
Pianoteq 7 is great! Keyscape is great! Amazing time for musicians today! If I had to choose between the two, I’d go with Keyscape, not to mention it’s integration with Omni 2. I realize that different musicians have different needs and preferences.✌🏾
@@truthmanifestingtruth Yeah the thing that killed Keyscape for me was no half-pedalling and string resonance. Those two features alone made or broke libraries for me when choosing what to work with.
It's a very personal thing, I also feel Pianoteq fits what I'm trying to do better. But I think for some people the slightly more realistic tone of Keyscape is probably more important (for them). I like the sound of Pianoteq as it is though.
Keyscape sounds good by itself, I guess, but there's not a single preset that I can sit in a mix properly. Maybe because it's so polished to sound great by itself, it ends up no sounding natural in a song setting.
Thanks for this review. I can conclude that Keyscape is not for me. I have tonnes of high-end piano libraries, and I don't do a lot of work with electric pianos. Blessings brother.
Hey Sam! Now that the Universal Audio Spark subscription has been released, could you do a comparison/review of the Keyscape C7 vs. The Universal Audio Ravel Steinway Model B piano? =)
it is strange that you can`t adjust the length of sustain in piano options... you need to use external pedal. Or is it possible to adjust sustain in Keyscape?
@@SamTheBeardGuy Is there any possibility to adjust the length of piano sounds in Keyscape? Usually the sustain pedal is to extend the length of piano sound, can you adjust it in options instead?
I've got all of the best piano libraries except Vienna Symphonic Library Synchron. If I had it do do over, I'd just buy Komplete 13 Ultimate Collector's Edition and Native Instruments Piano Colors. Pianoteq Pro Studio Bundle, Keyscape, Addictive Keys, All UVI crap, All VI Labs crap, Ivory II, all Arturia crap (including the Keylab MK2 controller), various miscellaneous pianos not worth mentioning, and my Kawai MP11SE would all remain unbought (oh, and especially Garritan Abbey Road CFX. I hate that thing and they won't let you sell the license.)
Great to know your opinion on Keyscape. I haven't bought it... I do have Omnisphere 2. I have enough pianos everywhere else and have never felt the need of buying yet another library. Currently using the pianos on Live 11 and also the XLN Addictive Keys. More than enough for what I need at the moment.
@@SamTheBeardGuy Omnisphere has all the same as Keyscape as far as i can tell. It looks like its got all the trillian sounds in it as well. Really wishing i just bought it instead of all 3.
I am totally convinced that before gear they need your skills... awsm man! I am totally depressed of what gear to buy... So confused that I am unable to buy anything 😭 Please help me..
hola me podrás ayudar, como tener una buena equalizacion, y compresión en vivo para Keyscape yo uso MainStage con una Mac M1, y me gusta como se oye en tus videos real pero no se mucho de ecualizar y comprimir el sonido
