I hate renting and love my home, but it was the worse "investment" I ever made. After 10 years there was no real increase in value and it's a financial liability due to the mortgage. I won't sell it and prefer to pay all that premium to have my own place, but there is no way to deny it costs me dearly.
I think you're great but your own property is a journey as well ,building and extendeding/improving ,and if you get it right ,it will benefit massive equity along the way ,all TAX FREE!!When at certain level 700kplus in bilston (I'm in telford) the equity builds at a substantial rate all paid off and earning equity and if 18yr cycle endures it'll be worth 1.4m in 10 yrs , Food for thought
Absolutely. That makes sense to me too. My problem was I didn’t have much money to start and I had to stretch my money as far as possible to not only replace my income, but also get my wife out out of work. I’ve been able to do that by selling my residential and investing that equity. If I had more money than sense or just more, I know the possibility of a resi wouldn’t seem completely crazy. I don’t need 1,000 properties I’m already grateful and happy so I’m not far off. It’s just helped me achieve our goals much quicker. Ps we lived in Bilston for a bit too - almost neighbours lol
