The other nice thing about physical games is sharing, when I have friends come over with their switch if I want to let them play a game I own, I can't do that with digital games unless I have them play on my switch, which isn't even helped if they add their account to my switch unless they do it to my "primary switch" (which I have on my kid's switch so they can play my digital games).

Digital also has one big downside which is a killer for me. It takes up a bunch of storage that you may want to keep for digital-only releases like Wiiware and Virtual Console (those are wii examples because I mostly play on Wii but Switch also has Virtual Console through NSO) or homebrew/mods. Also some games are too big for a digital release, like Mario Kart Wii (the console didn't even have 1GB storage, the game is close to 5GB)

I have a lot of physical games and now I’m leaning a bit more towards digital (mainly because I only have so much space in my switch case). As for games being discontinued, the company for one of my favorite games went bankrupt and everything the company made was removed digitally so now the only actual way to play it is with a physical copy, so I bought one from eBay and will protect it with my life

Don't forget, digital games take up more storage. This is an important thing to worry about on the Switch specifically, since the storage is so low. Buying a game like Tears of the Kingdom means you'll have to be archiving/uninstalling and reinstalling games all the time in order to play multiple games
@Jimmie14

All my games on switch are physical and i started to dread the annoyance of needing to switch out the game card every time I wanted to play another game which got me thinking about going all digital next console. After learning more about not owning games though I'm definitely going physical for every console in the future now
@Jonny312.
@Jonny312. 9 месяцев назад
For the next switch they need to make use of the docks space by letting it hold multiple games in the dock instead of in the switch itself. That ways you can have like 4 physical games in there (including one in the switch cartridge holder) without having to switch them out

This is not necessarily a Nintendo story, but I believe it's kind of applicable. I once owned a good language learning software, but since it was linked to multiple online components, the developers quit supporting the software and it stopped working all together. Now, the developers have a subscription-based service that costs more than the purchase-based software they once provided years ago. As for those of us who owned the previous software, we weren't so much as granted a discount on the new service. What a scam and stab in the back of those who supported the company! I am predominantly in the physical camp, but it is probably a good idea to do research on the game to see if most of the game data is stored on the cartridge itself. Otherwise, you could spend hours downloading data onto your console or Nintendo account. This could have implications for cross compatibility on a future console. Make sure you can actually keep what you buy!

1:57 Yeah. This happened to me while I was on a plane, coming back from a trip to California for my birthday. I Brought my Switch (With the case) and lost the case on the plane. The case had all my physical games in it.

Physical is the way to go. I would recommend digital only if 1. You’re not a collector and you find a very good sale on the online store 2. You want to a buy a digital exclusive/Arcade exclusive game that don’t have a physical release or readily available port. (I.e Capcom Arcade Stadium or Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon)

For the switch definitely physical for preservation. But for Xbox and Playstation, the physical version, some games doesnt contain the all necessary files needed to play, you are forced to download the rest of the files digitally. Whenever the server closes. Welp the discs are useless. Not only that you are also forced the entire game to be installed to the internal drive

Not true I own alot of playstation 4&5 games physically I play then without a update and it works fine right out the box. It's just certain game's small minority of them you need to update by force. Doesitplay

Remember you dont buy digital games, you buy the license to play the game. If you violate any terms of the contract the xompany has the right to bann you. Also the company has the right to stop making tge download available

@justinnewman4207

Depends on the platform I'm playing on. It is hard to beat the convenience of digital, saving me the hassle of going to a store or (more likey) having a copy shipped through Amazon for example. Thanks to a lack of storage on the Switch itself, even when expanded with an SD card, I find it more efficient to stay with physical copies for Switch. This gives the console more space for DLC and other related content that needs to download. I have to talk about PlayStation due to owning Ps4 and Ps5. These I don't care so much, as the entire game is going on the HDD/SSD anyway. The disc's only purpose after installation is its your key to play the game. Not to mention the CONSTANT Day 1 patch updates... If you don't have access to the Internet or play when the servers are down... Well that can present a problem now can it? We are headed to an all digital future. Retailers are phasing out all Physical media not just games. Soon, digital will be the only option whether people like it or not.
@nicholasfornaro
@nicholasfornaro 9 месяцев назад
Definitely true since physical games don't take up storage space on Switch but they do on PlayStation and Xbox. And yeah, it looks like physical media is being phased out, especially since Microsoft is now shutting down Physical Game Departments.
@kriichan6100

I think this is so bad for gaming and any industry switching from physical to digital. We'll live in a world where we don't actually own anything we pay for and that's bad enough, but with games especially it'll become so difficult to preserve the games as the console generations go on. I think having the option for both is good, we shouldn't let them completely phase out physical games.

It’s an extreme mixed bag for me. Physical media definitely has a lot of positives but then my kids get into them and I run out of space for storage. I usually got with the cheapest price of a game.

The only reason I'm considering buying physical games for the next console is because of the playstation issue, I'm not a big fan of physical games on the switch because I've always had a hard time with them on the multiple consoles I had to swap out where the cartridge wouldn't read or it would boot me out of the gamd randomly

The biggest downsides I see to digital are the fact that it takes storage (since the Switch doesn't have that much) and I'm also guessing it's much easier to take your games over to your friend's house and play them that way (rather than having to sign in into your account there and wait for the game to download)

Yeah, it’s great to play Xbox and PlayStation did digital games because there’s not a whole bunch of sharing securities in place that makes it so bothersome but once you play Nintendo’s digital games it’s hard to play unless you’re on that exact account so my kids can’t play under the games that are downloaded on my account because the tendo makes it so bothers him The way you always have it you never lose it. You will lose digital. I don’t care what you say. You might be able to save or download something off-line from the store that you’ve already purchased, but I’ll tell you all your saved information. I’ve had that happened to me to me damn Physical way to go

TL:DR Buy physical Nintendo Switch Games. Buy digital on every other platform. Since games are expensive and Switch games rarely get discounts, I perfer having physical copies of Switch games because I buy on the second hand market. I got Zelda TotK and Mario Odyssey for $40 and I also got Super Smash Bros, MarioKart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Party for $70. How could I possibly justify spending $60 on every game? The cartriges are also smaller than a CD and take up less space in storage than digital. Switch games also maintain value more than other platforms. On PC, I never buy physical games and when I had my PS5, I didn't buy physical either. I get multiple free downloads of games, great store discounts and my primary source of games are game keys found in sites like CDKeys or G2A since they sre always on discount.

The writing is on the wall with Nintendo with them dropping Wii U and 3DS support. And now this month the online support is going away so you'll be stuck with offline play. In less than 10 years time they will drop support from the switch and so many online experiences will be washed away with it. Steam however seems to be the only company worth paying money for digital content.

As much as I love physical, digital is better in all ways. It makes sense to buy games like this for Steam, PS and Xbox, because those games aren't going anywhere As for Nintendo, depends on whether they want to make one ecosystem of their consoles or not for Switch
