"Remaking the first 2 SMT" - that was my bet when Atlus wanted to announce something for the series 25th anniversary. I can just dream about those 2 games redone with the SMTIV engine...
You forgot one last voice actor, Takehito Koyasu (Arthur´s voice actor) which did Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star), Gin Dojima (Food Wars) and Dio Brando (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure).
I originally had Arthur’s VA in the script, but I took it out cause I didn’t want a huge chunk of the video just be about VAs haha, but yes I got excited when I heard Dio was our ship’s AI.
I'd also like to point out for some players it would be the first time they get Strange Journey. PAL regions ie Europe, Australia did not get the original ( I imported though).
This was my first SMT game I’ve ever had, the difficult wasn’t the best introduction into SMT games, but overall I adapted to it. And if you really get into the story and the different endings, it’s actually a really well written game. The combat isn’t half bad either.
I just played shin megami for first time in my life after having a 3ds 10 years+ playing apocalypse bought from eshop and I absolutely don’t know how I missed it I love this game! It uses the 3ds hardware to the max 3d effect is amazing. I Also bought Eshop Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker.
There are plenty of fringe channels on the edges of RU-vid whose voices sound like they're covered in a layer of dust. Yours isn't one of them. I've been really enjoying your videos lately, and I hope this channel grows and grows, because you deserve it
The game has been as fun as the original one. New apps such as the commander skills bring a fresh air to the gameplay, and since the vanilla SJ's endings were very extremists this new endings that came with Alex are way more refined imo
Well the first dungeon of 4 especially the boss made me rage quit for months now lol but I decided to pick up strange journey redux because it seemed like the most intriguing premise , and I got to say that I really been enjoying the combat, even after the first "boss" that killed *spoiler ig* the commander guy lol, plus I just love the look of the demonica suits more so than anything I've seen on smt characters, don't know why lol
Oh I see... Well then I guess it's better than nothing. I'm glad I haven't played the DS game (although I'm glad I have it in my collection) because now I can play it slightly better on the 3ds. Thanks for the reply!
agree. i wouldn't recommend this remake to someone that already played the original ds version or to people that have experience with smt games, but its a good game for casuals that want to know about smt
mmm I don't think the game requires a high level of strategy throughout the game and in my opinion if you didn't play any other game I wouldn't recommend it
Here's the problem about the lack of dub. I know they always pick talented seiyuus from Japan. The thing is they built up our expectations with having English dubs for both the devil survivor overclocked games. Thus, it is definitely a letdown on atlus' part this time, skimping on the dub this time. I know I was when I heard the Japanese newscaster.
Understandable, since Atlus USA has been dubbing all of their games it should have been a given for them to dub Strange Journey too. Clearly, it’s very lazy of them to skimp on Strange Journey Redux especially with the amount of time it took to release the Western port. Possibly, their funds were allocated to a different area, but I understand the frustration being shafted by Atlus USA. I do have to mention them keeping quiet about a non-English dub until the detailed Nintendo report on the game.
Sodium Cat It's even more frustrating with the setting and characters being probably the most perfect SMT game for a dub. Where you have these Gaijin characters speaking in Japanese is really unfitting. Like if Persona had no English voice acting it'd still fit perfectly but not here. I can't help but theorize that they thought they could get away with since the 3DS doesn't get much attention anymore. The fact that they kept the lack of dub under wraps kinda adds to this theory....it's just aggravating but I prefer my games with dubs unlike my anime.
Having Random Encounters is a huge turn off for me. :( I tried playing Final Fantasy VII when it first came out but the random encounters turned me off JRPGs completely, until I played Persona 3. Persona 3 was the first JRPG I really liked because it didn't do that.
DAOXINNo15 Yes, they added in “Field Saves” that allows you to save during dungeon runs. I’m not sure if they removed the original save points, but the trailer showing off Field Saves shows non-Field Save files so there’s a chance the original save points are still available. I can confirm this once I receive my copy.
You get a single Field Save which is not entirely unlike quick-saves seen in other games. You still have terminals which give you access to your main save files so the Field Save isn't replacing saves entirely. Like I can see a player Field Saving in a safe place, advancing through harsh terrain for a bit and then Field Saving again only to realise they've left themselves in a hard spot to get out of and relying on their proper saves to take it back a few minutes. For hardcore vets at least it's optional to use but I totally sympathise with the feeling that just having it there can be too tempting.
It’s like a lite-version of it. The Strange Journey battle system gives the player an advantage due to the extra damage inflicted by allies. The majority do prefer the Press Turn system of SMTIV and Nocturne more than Strange Journey though, but it’s not terrible.
I would say it isn't that bad though. Like on one hand I miss press-turn but on the other it felt less cheap. Press turn is a double-edged blade, it isn't funny when you are on the receiving end.
There's something about random encounters that can be uniquely anxiety inducing. Like, you don't know when it's going to happen. Or what it's going to be. It's not the same when you can see the enemy. Because that's something you can avoid. There's no avoiding a random battle. It's coming for you whether you like it or not
I have to say, that the soundtrack for this game was one of the worst Meguro has ever put out. While I think Meguro is heavily hit or miss, Strange Journey's soundtrack was just incredibly unremarkable.
English voiceover nowadays is so so terrible...they sound like ultra polished recording studio emptiness...completely distant from the atmosphere any games....much better to avoid them, so it's a plus for me they kept Japanese voices..
