Update: Since this video was released I have been in contact with Warner Bros support and they have resolved the issue where my digital deluxe items were not showing up. They were super friendly and got the problem solved in just a few days.
@@mcgavinclapping9490 on paper maybe but in practice it does the exact opposite and just incentives people to NOT play the game lol. Maybe the game will turn around in a year or two but it’s a shame such a giant series in gaming ends on such a whimper
“Just needed more time.” My brother of Christ it’s been almost 10 years since their last game and this game was already delayed multiple times lasting over 2 years
@@alexman378this easily looks better than Arkham City. Infact it’s more so the art style. Theres frequent points in this game that look far better than arkham knight which was severely ahead of its time. The game does not hold back graphically.
@@alexman378 they’re completely different environments and I would say again it does. I literally 100%ed knight for the 3rd time right before ss came. Knight has some of most insane graphics of any game, but if you look at both visually, they’re similar
Have to disagree with the statement that the game needed more time, it's been in the works on and off for nearly 10 years, if it's not right now it'll never be.
@@bobbydwormDoes that really matter though? Definitionally this isn't correct but I'd compare your complaint to semantics. The game is bad to mediocre regardless of the time they spent on it. It needed to be changed into something else entirely in order to be good so 10 years or 6 doesn't matter. Then again, 6 years alone is a massive yikes with what the end result is anyways so it's a moot thing to argue about
Remember when the only criticism from the last Rocksteady game was that the batmobile was overused and some lack of boss fights? Ahh those were the days. I only wanted a Superman game with the same treatment as Batman man, not a Suicide Squad looter shooter with C-lister baddies.
If this studio made a Superman game, they'd just either give him a gay love interest, or try to kill him because he's a straight, white male and a member of the patriarchy. You should be thanking your lucky stars that they didnt do a Superman game.
Actually, the PC version for the last Batman was a complete mess. They offered full refunds and pulled it from Steam for a while. It took about 3-4 months to fix framerate, texture, all sorts of issues. So to say the least I don't trust Rocksteady
I love how the canon explanation for Deadshot suddenly turning black (despite already being established as a white dude in City/Origins) was that the Deadshot in Arkham City/Origins was actually an imposter the entire time who was killed by “the real” Deadshot off screen, like you can just FEEL the love and care they have for their old characters
@@reality.remixxxx4225 Original character that we grew with? Bro he had like 2 lines, a single shitty stealth section and briefly got his ass kicked in the intro of Origins. He's barely in the games lmao.
I could see making a game with Flash and Supes being really hard to balance keeping them feeling powerful enough without completely negating any challenge
@VileVanguard, not the suicide squad, imo I find them very uninteresting. It would be interesting if they use the Legion of doom(the group of all the main heroes villains) to kill the justice league because it would make more sense to me.
>Flash gets pissed on >Green Lantern gets stripped down to his dorky GL themed boxers >Batman is mocked then shot in the head on a park bench >Wonder Woman gets a tragic death after she almost kills Superman but loses in a way thats not her fault, all the Squad members cry for her Its not subtle
I already wanted this game to fail since it’s yet another live service/microtransaction game, but after seeing what they do to Conroy’s Batman and just the poor standard of quality overall, I genuinely hope this game bombs. Gamers deserve way better than this, and the industry will only notice once the money dries up.
@@kaidorade1317My guy you realize he read the script write? How is it a disgrace to his name if he wanted to do this himself? I don't even care about the game but y'all are so damn weird
They gave his death the most weight out of the entire league. It was sad, but what did you expect from the "kill the justice league" story? Single player live service games will probably die out on its own but greedy gaming companies will continue on. I honestly just want this game to get updates and improve (à la no man's sky and cyberpunk) because it just hurts otherwise. Such a waste of talent.
I don't know how an M rated game about killing DC's biggest heroes from the villains' perspective ended up utterly boring in its narrative and dialogue, but here it is.
M rated yet every character talks to you like you’re a child. Origins, asylum, and city were all rated T and were a hundred times more mature than this trash
They hired non-gamers and non-comic book readers and instead hired ideological companies (Quite literally) to help their story writing. It's pretty clear that Gamer Gate was absolutely right.
@@midnari Gamer Gate was a stealth mode way of complaining that women and nonwhite people were lead characters in media, not about shit writing. The "anti-woke" crowd that stemmed from them needs to learn media literacy before I give those chumps credit for jack shit. What they call woke is just called cynical pamdering and it was done to dudes for years too, they're just mad THEY aren't the only target for pandering. The problem is corporatism, not diversity, they just don't see that. I almost WISH this script was woke (you know, being aware of the fucked up flaws in society, not "we put a black guy in here and a woman lead, give us money"), because then at least I could laugh and roll my eyes at some poorly placed public service announcement about racial injustice before Deadshot caps GL in the head.
@@EmpressMaya I watched the dialogue. While I could appreciate King Shark's Drax-like earnestness, there wasn't much in the way of making me care about who I'm playing as. I get that they each want to not die by head bomb, but what else is there to these guys? Does Deadshot have a beef with any of the heroes in particular? What does King Shark want to do, or why is he on land? What do they each hope for after they get out of Metropolis? They give a high five at the end, but I can't tell these guys are even any sort of friends. If not for that Batman fight exposing some inner flaws, they're paper-thin.
We could've gotten a Justice League Co-Op Game fighting Brainiac......... Instead we got 3 Normies & a Shark............ The disrespect they showed to Batman is so disappointing. Rocksteady is the definition of: "You either die a Hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the Villain."
Ngl imagine 4 different mechanics for each character instead of 4 nutjobs just shoot at things, if the JL game is good then imagine the cosmetics for the heroes which is will be far better and idc if its a paid cosmetics if the whole game is good and not locked behind battlepass like wtf they are thinking
@@stephenthedude4383fr if they wanted to do a game about killing the JL, we should have played as characters that can stand a chance against them, like death stroke and general Zod, not fucking Harley quinn
This is the first time I’ve seen a reviewer say “watch other reviews bc I may get this wrong, and it’s better to be more informed” I think that’s really great!
@@xjonnyacex what do you mean? His approach to suggest something tjat most people already do? Maybe he should include actually playing the game before you post a review.
The game looks and plays like complete and utter dog shit, the fact that you’re telling us that the game looks “good” is amazing to me, seeing that it looks worse than the last Batman game, a game that came out 9 years ago, mind you.
You shouldn’t get so tribal about game studios. The people who made this trash aren’t really the same. Even if some people decided to sink with the ship, they’re only as good as their last envelope. And they took a dump in this envelope.
Ma dude they didnt make arkham knight and then instantly hopped on to suicide squad. If this was truly 9 years in developement it would surely be better
I'm gonna be honest and probably get hate for this but I don't care This game is soulless and exists only to trend chase. Rocksteady really didn't need to do this and no one asked for this. I'm not buying this. I have lost faith in Rocksteady as a studio after this
Rocksteady does not set prices, the publisher Warner Bros. does. There is enough wrong with this game without misappropriating blame right out of the gate.
Game looks terrible. A mess of repetition, micro transactions & bland gameplay. What a step down from the Arkham series. No wonder they did everything possible to prevent reviews. I’ve played all 4 Arkham games a silly number of times and have 100% each one multiple times. After the state of optimisation of Arkham Knight being so bad that steam pulled it from their store for months, there was no way I was preordering this. Or Gotham knights. Once bitten, twice shy. And I kind of expected this to suck as soon as it was announced to be yet another boring & grindy looter shooter. They clearly learned nothing from Gotham Knights flopping, or from how poorly received Avengers was
It's not the same developers who worked on knight..the developers who worked on the first 3 games are most likely watching in disgust. Thank you sweet baby studio's for ruining every game franchise ever
True, but wasn't my point. Just felt considering what Batman's been through and what he's accomplished, his story here is ended by a headshot followed by a cheap one liner
@@TheVintress People that like quality over cheap story. This game was made for people like you, they can shit in your mouth and you will like it. So fuck you, youre part of the problem
@@officerdank4644 Yeah no. Either your brain is garbage or your vision is garbage if you think Suicide Squad looks worse than Arkham Knight. Might want to see a doctor and have both checked out just to be safe
The thing I love about your content Aqua is you are always fair. Your videos are never an emotional filled rampage, you're measured and reasonable with your own subjective thoughts and provide a genuinely good review to allow others to make up their own minds.
Completely agree with you. Coming as a someone who really loved the Arkham games, and was totally excited for SSKtJL, I appreciate someone giving an honest critique without falling into just insulting the game. This felt like a fair, balanced review which always leads me to trust the speaker more.
Disagree. You can be emotional and still reasonable on the game. This review seems 'fair' because it's one of the few reviewers that liked the game. So automatically anyone that doesn't recommended the game is not a 'fair' reviewer? It doesn't work like that, mate.
I fucking hate games “that get good in the end game.” I’m playing the game for the story, I don’t want to wait til it’s over and there’s nothing for me to do but run around and shoot shit for it to, “get good.” There’s no incentive to play. Why do I give a fuck about getting stronger guns or whatever else when the games over. Hate these companies that design their games with the sole focus being monetization, we end up with repetitive, uninspired trash like this.
I’m not investing in corporate greed. While I know many people put in their hard work and time into this game, I cannot support corporate greed. I don’t blame the devs, they were told to do this by those signing the checks. So it’s a loose, loose situation. While we want to show solidarity for the hard work of the developers, but by ignoring the obvious issues and hoping things will get patched later while paying ridiculous high prices for a product that doesn’t work. I just can’t in good faith spend my hard earned cash for a broken product with the “promises” things will be fixed later. We’ve seen read these same statements and promises before. Anthem, Cyberpunk, Marvels Avengers and Gotham Knights. Meanwhile an amazing game like Guardians of the Galaxy gets ignored by the majority of video game players.
I would say do not buy this game Mostly for the sole reason of it being always online. With how reception has been to this game I personally don't see it sticking around for more than 2 months.
@@Frankwithhotdogtoes Its practically an offline game now. I don't know what it "connects" to but the only time I've had to play on a server is when I've played coop, and the only reason I know that is because when you switch to coop the game tells you that your going to be connected to a coop server
It’s a strange one because it has 78% positive user steam reviews a big player drop off while being torn to shreds by independent reviewers. Trouble is you don’t get proper reviews anymore from people they bash every game for clicks and the young people are retarded so they follow like 🐑 🐑 🐑 78% of people positively recommended the game, not played it myself but It highlights what I’m saying.
As a longtime Arkham Batman fan, I disagree. Coming from that position will, for most people and myself, make this experience even worse. Seeing them basically take a huge fat dump on both the Suicide Squad and Justice League in how they're characterized is enough to send me into a downward spiral of insanity. And, yes, I also used to be quite the comic book reader and somewhat still am. Tho I've gravitated more towards manga and anime that mostly have proper beginnings and endings. Modern comics, just like their latest adaptations have been, 90% of the time, downright insulting.
Harley Quinn kills Batman by shooting him in the head while he sits on a bench. The last thing you see is Kevins Batman dead in the street and then someone cracks a joke and the game moves on.
@@stareater1870 Youre one of those weirdos who thinks that writers choosing Wonder Woman to be the only one not brainwashed is some hidden agenda, right?
Thankfully this is not Kevin Conroy's last performance like Rocksteady said. He will be in an animated series and appear in Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3 as his BTAS version. Thankfully he'll get an actual respecful sendoff, no thanks to Rocksteady

Dude, I'm not even gonna pirate the game if it even was possible. This game shits on the Arkham franchise. A franchise that put RockSteady on the map in the first place.
The fact that the microtransaction storefront was still working even while the servers were down for maintenance should tell you everything you need to about this “game” and about live services in general. They’re digital storefronts for the publisher so we can buy useless virtual content that will become absolutely worthless once the servers are shut down and the game becomes totally unplayable. I’m not going to be one of those nostalgic guys who says “Games were better when I was a kid” but jeez Louise at least when you brought a game before the mid 2010s there was no question that you owned it and aside from the occasional weird exception it was a functional and complete product at launch.
Looter shooters all have like 20,000 players who love the game but get dissed out of half the content because it didn't sell 10,000,000 copies and the week's Blue Hair cosmetic
To be fair, on the PS5, I had zero frame drops, and the game play feels smooth. I don't want to be closed-minded on the game except to see the story as an alternative timeline. Each character does feel unique to and it takes a bit of time to get used to. The side quests helped me to test out the new upgrade features as the game progressed. I am nearly reaching max level. Overall, I am having fun with the game.
they actually do explain how Brainiac successfully invades and controls the JLA... they just do it in audio logs... also the way it plays out is incredibly dumb and contrived
Talking about Arkham references while having Harley shoot the hologram of Batman in gameplay the most subtle "if you know you know" I have ever seen 😂 Personally I'm skipping this one for 1000 different reasons but the main one remains: Live Service. I have never ever seen a live Service game that wasn't shameless highway robbery. You pay for the game you pay for the battle pass you pay for the cosmetics you pay for everything AND you're still not an owner of the game just a holder of an access to it. Meaning the company can shut it down anytime and your money is gone. No thanks, when I buy a game I expect this game to remain usable on my shelf for the next century and to this day I go back to play older games I bought ages ago.
They should have just named it Suicide Squad because it ruins their future live service content because it ALWAYS has to return to killing the Justice league and not anything cool with the suicide squad
I have been enjoying it so far . I’m like 3 or 4 hours in. Mastering the movement and combat is pretty fun and I like how unique it is . Comic books can have random spin offs why can’t games and developers? It’s so weird that we are trying to box rocksteady to strictly only make og arkham style games when in reality both can exist so long as the game is fun which is all that matters . The story is cool , dialogue not bad . Launch had some bugs but other than that it’s been fun. I saw another reviewer get upset that when he tried to deviate from the mission that he couldn’t well no shit it’s suicide squad and Waller has a bomb in their head of course they can’t go wandering around the city instead of the mission it would be the same way in a comic lol
Bro theres so much misinformation. I saw a youtuber say you were stuck with the weapons "Boomerang uses a shotgun for some reason" - bro you can almost IMMEDIATELY change that. Most people also are focusing on the story and how they treat the characters - fam the STORY in a looter shooter is probably the least important part. I need to know about the CONTENT, the GAMEPLAY, the SYSTEMS and endgame loop. Destiny 2 has an OKAY story, warframe story is very good imo, and I personally hated borderlands story but the gameplay MORE than made up for it. But NONE of those games would have survived if they didn't have good GAMEPLAY systems. But yeah I know people care about story - especially with a dc property sadly.
There’s no way in fresh hell you played the Arkham games and say the gameplay and story of this game is good, especially how they treated THE ARKHAM BATMAN lol
Hoping you get the stuff you paid for. With it being WB and having played a few of their games now, I am not suprised cosmetics are insanely priced. They don't let the dev teams pick the price points, that much is evident. Or they take way too much of the sales off them forcing the price hike. But the fact it's running smoothly when other things fail is deplorable
@@Itsme-wp8yc There's quite a few Destiny players hopping on and enjoying the game so far. So I guess it's for people like them or anyone who love a grind looter game
I have actually been enjoying it, i think the hate that its getting is a little overkill, especially with how good the movement, character banter and the mechanics work. Ya its a little overwhelming but hey thats a personal preference. As someone who has played tons of looter shooters, its nice to have another game to keep the attention. I hope the game dosent just get swept under the rug as there is some major potential that I think a lot of people are glossing over because of blind hatred.
I can fully understand exactly why a lot of people are absolutely despising the game, but it's definitely been fun playing with some of my best friends. I'll obviously be amongst the minority by enjoying it,but hopefully they can do something in the future to please the other side of the fandom Great video aqua!
less of a minority than u think. have like 14 friends who play it along with being part of a full clan of 16 members, none of which are those 14 friends.
I can't believe that the Justice League gets killed in a gamed called Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League! It's a slap in the face to people who don't know how to read!!
I really hate how people are coming at this game the wrong way. If you aren't comparing it to Destiny 2, borderlands, or warframe then you already missed the point. I'd put it on borderlands level of writing (i kinda hated the writing of the series but the gameplay was insane), destiny 2 levels of gameplay (not amazing but not bad), and HOPEFULLY warframe levels of content/endgame later on. Like it's not a redfall or day before. Not everygame is going to be an insane hit - just enjoy it for a while then move on. Solid 6 or 7 imo. (Destiny 2 is an 8, warframe 9, borderlands 7 for me personally)
The fact that game critics have to pay for the game at all is shady. This game's launch is a naked cash-grab because the devs and publisher all think everyone is going to hate it and they have to wring every penny they can from people in the first three days.
The game's gameplay is so disconnected from the Arkham games makes me wonder why even bothering to make it part of it anyways. Clearly it soured a lot of people's story-wise too. Yet DC's whole brand include a multitude of universes. They could have easily just make it a separate thing and probably would have eased a lot of people's anger towards it. Althought there are some stuff like the repetitiveness of it all that wouldn't have been fixed by that
The games right. It’s a great game for the genre it’s set in, weakest part is the story, the gameplay is really fun and fast paced especially when you start playing on the invasion level difficulties. The incursions get a little repetitive sometimes but upping the mastery levels kicks it up again. I also think it’s cool that the seasons don’t expire, and it won’t be going forever only 6 seasons. Can’t wait for mr freeze his traversal gonna go crazy
Answer: No, this game is complete garbage, complete!! I would not even touch this if it was free to play, just mind blown that Sefton Hill gave this thing the green light.
Honestly I’m having fun with the game. I feel like the dialogue is pretty funny and the characters are fun. The story is whatever tho. Overall I’d give it like a 7 as of rn
@@stephenthedude4383 that’s actually super tough. From the leaks it seems like the story will change wit DLC. As of base game and as a sequel??? Damn maybe a 4. It’s a completely different tone but the story and gameplay don’t even hold a candle to any of the Arkham games
