Just a note for Bosch owners if you buy something like the Bosch Nyon display you will get all the new features and can custom manage the power modes. The Nyon has Turn by Turn mapping, range assistant, range and route planner, health etc etc. So you don't need to buy a new Bosch bike (Bigger Battery Aside) to get these new features

I think manufacturers need to start thinking about sustainability and allow upgrades to be made to current bikes/motors/batteries/operating systems rather than just releasing new bikes. For most there is no reason to get a new bike every few years.

I got told Dec 2022 for the 9.8 by my LBS in Australia. I've had my Rail 9 on order since Nov 2020.

I'm still happy to ride my wife's 2018/19 Powerfly FS7. I don't have time to fiddle with an app or to stargaze into a screen to see how many watts the bike or me are putting out. All I'm intrested in is how may bars are left on the battery, what's up a head and what stays in my bank balance.

I love my trek rail 7 2021, carbon models are ludicrously expensive to me 😬 but they've done a wonderful job with integration of the 750wh battery without radically changing the bike.

Wanted a trek rail 9 and had to wait to aug 22, so went for the rail 7 in April and it's a fantastic bike, no regrets. My brother has a new specialised levo and today has electrical faults.

@@Extremegaz25 the 7 is the best "average model" in the lineup.. the 2022 has the new Domain too, you may convert it in a ZEB swapping the damper and you have a top bike with minimum expenses, good choice 😉 specialized I have two friends who have it and no issues with them so far... but I know that that motor has lots of problems 😬

I am currently riding a cube stereo 160 action team, E bike and love it, but did always love trek,,, had a few... That 22 rail is fantastic looking carbon machine😊✌️❤️

I have a 2020 rail 9.8 xt and i absolutely love it...its still going strong and will serve me well until 2024 when i get antsy for the latest tech. if you can get a deal on a 2020 or 2021 go for it, you wont be unhappy.

Excellent topic Steve. I have been enjoying my 2019 Rocky Mountain Instinct A 70 for about two years . I have the overtime pack, a separate set of 27.5 " wheels equipped with studded Terrene " cake eater " 2.8" tires for winter riding. I find myself torn between something I know and truly enjoy as a year round multi - purpose bike and going with the newer bells and whistles , sleeker and larger battery in the 2022 model offered by RM. ( 2022 Instinct is not able to convert from 29" to 27.5" wheels and a ride-4 geometry setting as apposed to the previous ride-9 chip offering more geometrical setting options ). I guess my point is , newer isn't always better but what really is a concern is the re-sale value. Decreasing exponentially each year regardless of maintenance and care. That leaves me to think , stick with what works and what you can afford. Newer isn't always better in many cases regardless of the brand. Cheers from Fernie BC Canada.

At 0.39sec in the video was you being chased by a squirrel lol, will the Bosch Flow system be available on all Bosch EMT bikes in 2022 or only high end selected bikes, I'm thinking of a Trek Rail 9 or Specialized Turbo Levo and the Flow system could just be a deciding factor.

e-bike is a game changer. current ebike techs with mid-motor setup allows seamless and smooth transition of the boost and add so much pleasure into biking minus the cost association.

Buy the latest model? As if I earn enough to purchase a new model from a brand every year? It's taken me five years to save-up for an e-bike. Now that I can afford one, the dilemma is affording the components that will need replacing. Maybe when my legs start really hurting, e-bikes will be affordable. $1,2,3,4,5,12K, is a-lot of money to most people. Yet reviewers make-it out to be mere pocket change.

Trek Rail or Cube Stereo ... I can't decide. Hopefully the new rail has better hubs than the "21" models. But DAMN! That rail looks soo much better in the video than it does on their website! EDIT: NVM Lower price rail is unchanged. Lower price Cube gets all the updates... that was easy.

My friend just buy new 9.8 and He pic his bike in April 2022. But I still stay with my Levo with 700 battery and good geometry , silent engine . Maybe next year, or next, or next ;)

Great video I have just bought a 2022 rail 9.7 to replace my 9.5 that’s was stolen. The 9.7 has the 625 battery the same as the 9.5. I still have the battery from my 9.5, I think I can swap them , what do you think ? I have asked a dozen experts and have a dozen different answers Thank you in advance for help in this matter.

Is that the prismatic color ? I just ordered a 2022 9.8 gx prismatic M lead time according to today is 295 so next aug. stoked but bike will be 9 months old by the time I get it.

Bigger capacity battery but physically bigger and heavier Same motor but with more bells and whistles My 2021 Rail 5 does what I want within my budget. My Wife's Giant Stance has 5 app adjustable assist levels plus one adaptive mode. The control is led indicators though there is no display. Motor is quieter than the Bosch. You don't need the key to insert the battery, unlike my Rail. Sure its generally lower spec and 500wh battery but £3299? No complaints! You still can't even get 2021 ebikes without a long wait Next advances may be smaller, lighter, higher capacity batteries and integral gearboxes.

Great video. One I was waiting for. Which one would I chose? The 2021 9.8 XT that I ordered a year ago, no doubt .... IF .... it had been delivered! I just negotiated an 'upgrade' to the 2022 model (price got upgraded too) and yes it looks really good ...... IF ..... it gets delivered as promised in April ....... After 18 months waiting I will probably shed a tear of happiness/relief 😂😂😂

I've got to say that my 21 Trek Rail 5 with a Zeb 180 and MT520/SLX7100 levers did the job around your proving ground Jonesey. The 22 bike just means that you'll be able to ride up Billy's a few more times to session that slab. I wish you could retrofit the tuneability of the motor on the '21 bike, because let me tell you, dropping into the rocky, leafy switchback on Black Run last Friday when I forgot to turn it off EMTB mode was NOT the one!

@@stevejones7956 I've always known it as Billy's, although that said, you've got different people naming the same trail differently, so it gets confusing. But it's definitely a time saver on ebikes and you don't get the dreaded bonk after 5-6 climbs from the bottom!

Was hoping someone would mention the 9.7.. I had a 7 on order, but the shop is only receiving 9.7's, in a week or two. What made you go for this instead of the 7?

@@tommurray5156 better components; although after a few rides it felt great on flowy single track but once I went where I take my slash the yari for sure wasn't enough so I went with a fox 38.Later on a swapped shocks for a fox coil, made a world of difference! NOW it feels like a slash. So in hindsight I could have gone with the 7 and done the same and saved some $ ! But 7's weren't available even though it took 8 months for the 9.7. Still sure stoked on it and its really hard not to ride it all the time and go with the slash or remedy. ( I ignore the "no bikes" signs and throw out some french or spanish if I see anyone on the trail giving me the look.

i would imagine but the time they arrive 2023 bikes will be announced. I bought a canyon thinking it had the ep8 motor it arrived with e8000. So do check you don’t get a new bike with last years bits, but pricing for these things is getting out of control 4-10k.. for something that’s longevity is questionable due to motors and upgrades

As a lover of the Trek Rail (owner since late 2019) - I have given up trying to look after the paintwork, it chips too easily and scratches just by riding through bushes. I hope the newer models have tougher paint/finishes.

I don't see the point in this....We always want to have the most powerful motor and then we pay big bucks on it just to have the option to tone it down on an app? And the led controller.....what is this, the 80s? I have a Bosch e-bike, and my next e-bike will be Bosch, but for me the real upgrade is the battery, nothing else.....

C'mon ffs. THE only major differences between the manufacturers is the Drive Units (DU) and frames being either Aluminum or Carbon. Gears, forks, shocks, wheels and tires can all be 'upgraded' if you really want to

The three main reasons I purchased a Levo instead of a Rail earlier this year. 1. Better bike shop. 2. Much quicker availability. 3. Spare 700w battery was easy to find and swap out.

I rented the Levo 3 times and was set to purchase it until I rode the Rail. I knew within 5 minutes, it was surprisingly better than the Levo and I'm a Specialized fan boy. The geometry was better, the motor was better and the suspension was better. Yeah I wish it had a bigger battery and better parts, but it's such a blast to ride so I got a Rail and an very happy.

@@jamesoconnor5903 those are great reasons to go with the Rail. The fact that my local specialized bike shop happened to be better than the local Trek bike shop was a big deal for me. I also bought the Comp model and upgraded the suspension to fit my needs. Zeb Ultimate Fork at 170mm travel, Cane Creek DB shock, cascade link, 27.5 rear wheel, wireless shifting, and Cush core tires inserts that have a surprisingly good impact on how the suspension works.

@@andersonsridebikes I hear you. The Specialized shop in my area is better than the Trek shop as well. And I had to go to another town that had my bike in stock. They did a poor job setting up my bike and I won't use them for anything but required warranty work. You made the right call with the upgrades - I got the 9.8 cause I love the Zeb and I ditched the crappy Bontrager tires and installed Cush cores with my Assedai's as well. Very happy, like you said, it's a nice improvement to the suspension.

My problem with ebikes is it’s great getting a new bike but and this a big but once it’s 2 years old there’s limited support from the manufacturer £4000 for two years tryed to get my e8000 serviced to be told to was a disposable item £800 😡 god knows how much a battery is or even if I can get one

Try Blazing Bikes. Ordered and delivered a 9.9 in a week. Upgraded from the 9.8 I ordered. They had stock as of October when I ordered mine.

I'd love to see some road bike tech bleed over into mountain bikes and vice versa. Perhaps an oval chainring for increased pedal stoke efficiency, and an aerodynamic cover for the rear wheel.

@@a.lame.username. Stiffness isn't always a good thing on a mountain bike (why else would they have suspension). And aero handlebars don't give you much control because they're so close together.

Good information especially that the 2022s are the same geometry except in the top specs. I put a 80 mm stem on my 2021 9.7 and it really feels good now. Some reviewers are not liking the geometry changes made in 2022 so interesting that you like it. The new controller might be worse than the older one which is also bad. Specialized is way ahead in their design imo. I have already hurt myself in turbo mode and find it way too sudden to use on anything technical so would love to be able to dial that down with the new software. Thanks.

My rail started creaking after 300km, Headset was dry and rusty, cleaned the bearings and cups, regreased everything and now its quite. 50km later, the main pivot bearings were toast. They were not spinning anymore, the pivot bolt rotated inside the bearing instead. Love the bikes performance and feel, but the quality just sucks for Such an expensive bike
