I hope they do update this over time and add the amplification. I work in a hospital with lots of elderly and hard of hearing patients so having my voice at a normal level and my mouth visible would actually be really helpful, the fact that it is arguably more protective than a regular mask helps too
@Pong Krell Razer produced a BUNCH of real n95 masks for the pandemic, it adheres to the standards but it hasn't received certification yet, tho they've applied. It's a long process since it's a newer type of product.
The fact that every post about this mask gets some people so mad is the funniest thing and has done a lot to make me want one. Really not about the clear mouth window though. I'd probably want to cover it with a fitted decal or something.
Naomi Wu did a review of this in terms of actual function and it looks like the “n95 grade filters” are meaningless when you take into account that the mask is leaky and doesn’t provide enough static pressure to effectively keep unfiltered air out. Cool fashion piece but really ineffective, unfortunately. It has a techwear aesthetic but none of the functionality.
The duck lip effect in the window is a bit weird! I'm a bit worried about the magnetic filter covers. Having worn respirators with my cybergoth gear, if one falls off you don't often know about it for a while, and those are screw on. It reminds me of the FOTU face screens in style. I have one of those and while it looks cool and invites comments, it's not to practical especially when you need to stow it (and after a while, you will want to!).
The magnets seem pretty sturdy so far, I think they'd only come off if you dropped the mask but who knows if you're mid-rave they might not stand up to that either 😅
I bought one specifically for my Cyberpunk cosplay. Haven’t gotten it yet but I’m pretty excited for it. I think it’s gonna make the cosplay look really good plus I need a mask at cons anyways. Hopefully I’ll be able to wear it day to day a bit as my style in general matches it pretty well.
*insert bane reference* Fully agree on your points and can't wait for the next versions of these (if they'll be out some day)! Although I do think it's hard for most people to incorporate these into "normal" outfits without making the mask stand out too much.
Small note. I don't believe the small gaps in the mask present a major risk. Scba gear used by firefighters use a positive pressure seal meaning they have a higher then ambient internal pressure so even if the seal is broken, noxious gasses don't pass into the mask. I believe that concept may hold true to this mask as its a positive pressure system with the fans. Keeping ambient air out of the skirt even if the seal is broken
Just imagine all the effort you're gonna have to put into trying to convince the security that the mask complies with regulations, each time you try and go somewhere

even if it's not medically certified, this one helped me when 4 people from our household were tested positive except me, I had to sleep with this thing on my face, because my brother and I shared the same room. and I gotta tell you sleeping with it feels like a breeze, no breathing problems while i was asleep. I didn't show any symptoms, and I still went on to work for 2 weeks until they were cleared/negative tested.
Adding in mic functionality to make your voice louder or putting a decal or something similar to a screen sticker on the exterior so that you can make your mouth inside the mask less visible would be nice. (The mask itself could be more clear in front of the mouth with a variety of sticker shades.) It would cost a lot more to make the mask PPE qualified and now that most areas across the world don't require masks, it's not as much of a "must have" and more of an option.
I can't imagine wearing this in public and not looking like a complete twat. Its too much. Also, as you addressed in the video at 12:27 (thank you for that BTW), it isn't medically viable due to the lack of fit testing, so it defeats the purpose of masking in the first place.

If you lookup the project hazel i think that was a much more aesthetic design however i think we got zephyr because they realized the hazel couldnt fit a variety of faces. The tech is interesting and i wouldn’t be surprised if razer has a paintball/ airsoft mask in the future however it just doesnt look right to me. Without long hair or a hood when you look straight on it just looks weird and awkward.
The funny part is if you go to razer's community post and check the most recent one the finally announced the "pro" varient which reintroduced the voice application that was cut out, and as a person who owns one of these already it did make me a tad bit salty.
This is something I've been looking into since it's first teaser, as someone with Asthma it makes it difficult for me to breathe all that well through standard cloth masks. Fitting might be an issue but this is rather newer tech, especially given it's ease of use. Luckily I have the income to support buying something like this and aleast getting to try something like this before the improvements, just to see if it's right for me, is definitely worth the money. Mind you, I'm essentially sitting at a Razer desk. Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, Monitor, Headset, and yes, even my PC (Razer Tomahawk 3080), there products have lasted me more time than basically anyone else at this point. So giving this a chance is something I'm considering, not just because "it's Razer", I mean shit, I'll never buy one of their Laptops, their cooling is awful, and the performance compared to others in their class is dreadful, but I digress, more to the point, because whether or not something like this will fit my comfort level.
I would have much preferred a more tinted window for the mouth as well, despite the objective reduction in utility. Motorcyclists do a similar thing with their helmets, opting to swap out their stock clear visors for tinted ones, mainly for aesthetics. Hopefully there's enough leeway to DIY a solution for the current Zephyr. Also agree heavily with aesthetic function being a bit limited, most people aren't going to feel confident wearing this item daily unless you have a specific wardrobe to compliment it. It's not something you can easily just throw on without thinking.
How does this mask work with glasses? As someone mentioned, glasses fog up really quickly while wearing cloth masks, so if you can comfortably wear this with glasses that would be an improvement.
I was into this style back in Highschool but never really knew, and I am still now lol, you know like with hoods, fingerless gloves, something interesting looking to wear and a mask if it is allowed. But every time someone goes in front of the camera with a hoodie on with a half mask, it looks super cringy cuz they always look down and give some goofy ahh "oh yea i can mess you up home booooi" grumpy look. Idk what it is about clothing styles like this that makes someone go all "OOOH, Ima batman", all I know is that the clothes give them a powerful feel lol.
Can we have a conversation about clean tactical tech wear and the more advanced functionality they provide? I appreciate tech gear but don’t agree with the 70% style aesthetic. My approach is to wear the tech without screaming “I spent $$$ here!”… This winter I decided to spend on a full three layer Arcteryx LEAF set to kick the worsening weathers butt.
This would probably look *WAAYYY* better with a matte black non transparent finish. I really don't need people looking at my mouth. The we already have enough attention from the RGB we don't need the whole thing to be shiny too.

This is a great fashion gadget and not an respirator and I wouldn't put any filters in it at all. In short, someone likes to have a piercing on their face, and someone likes the Razer Zephyr. No filters are needed for this. Mainly a lot of light effects and add different sound effects to the voice amplifier including different voice changes etc. Darth Vader can only be envious.
N95 is NOT the highest commercially available standard, it is merely the most common for most situations, the Zephyr also NEEDS to be powered for those fans to force air even in non exertion scenarios. Better be ready to have it always in high mode when walking because the volume of air delivered is barely up to minimal standards. Essentially, you will be gasping for breath at a brisk walk, even on high.
Yeah, The duck lip thing is weird. I probably would get it further tinted to off set that. Also you could see the silicon around your face from the front. If what you're saying about the fit is true, then I probably could wear it comfortably. I'm just pretty over wearing masks that fog up my glasses. If it's able to help me breathe better so I don't have to take it off when I'm sitting at my desk, that would help since people tend to come up to me there. I think the style aesthetic isn't a big deal, but those whining fans are a problem. I would have to see what I could do with that. I"m also disappointed that they took out the amplifier feature. I certainly would like to see more styles come out for these, but I think these are super cool.
ngl if you wear a hoodie almost all of the visual problems and even the echo problem kinda solves itself. the echo just looks normal on someone with a hoodie.
I teach elementary school kids English as a 2nd language. Please go ahead and put voice amplification in the next version. My students can't see my mouth for word formation in regular masks. I bought a see through face shield, but it looks really bad, its too heavy, and muffles my speech. It's also insufferably hot in the summer. This shows the mouth, cools the face and is just missing a Bluetooth mic that can output to Bluetooth speaker. This would reaaaaally help out in my classes (only 8 kids in a class). I would go as high as 150USD.
I got my in drop 2. I dueted your TT vid with it. I haven’t able to justify wearing it in public, and my field test at work proved it uncomfortable for long periods. I would buy it again either way.
Just got an Atmoblue mask from eBay and it is very similar to this except I think less kiddish / toying and itlooks more medical especially in white. Comes with h13 hepa filters which apparently is higher filtration than n95 but easier to breathe than a cloth mask. Battery has lasted up to 6 to 8 hours depending if it’s on low, medium or high. I wish they gave an option to turn off RGB to save battery and look more normal. Imagine using this on the plane during sleeping time and your rgb is lighting up the whole cabin.
You can put whatever filters you want into a shitty plastic mall ninja mask, they won't do you any good if the mask isn't fitted properly and providing a complete seal around your mouth and nose area.
I think the translucent part of the mask should be more aggressive. Similar to emperor greymon from digimon, or Optimus primes mouth without the war mask.
Thanks for the honest review. For the price it should have been near perfect. Noisy fan, the mask having such a wide fit on the face and the mouth covering being transparent is a turn off
Price of Atmoblue Mask on eBay is $250 cad with shipping and this one is around $500 cad. I would love to see your review on it since I’m loving it so far. Get a black atmoblue for more tech ware look and white for a medical look!
I know it's razor, but couldn't they have made a cheaper one without rgb and a separate controller app? I'd love to buy an affordable mask with cooling fans. Also you could probably just buy a sheet of filter material off amazon and cut replacements from that.
This is typical Razer stuff. It has RGB and looks pretty okay but it's overpriced and not as functional as alternatives. You're basically paying for RGB. After getting mad at conventional masks fogging up my glasses, I've been wearing a professional grade Sundström Safety SR 900 mask with a P3 R filter for covid which is as efficient at blocking particles as a P100 face mask. The mask and filter are somehow almost as breathable as not having a mask on at all. The donning system is similar to the Zephyr's, but the straps are wide nylon with adjusters and rubber pads for a good grip. If you want to take it off, you can just slide the top strap off of your head and hang the mask around your neck. Oh yeah, and it's huge, covering your entire face from the nose and cheeks downwards and has awesome-looking exhalation vents on both sides of the mask. It definitely fits that cyberpunk niche that the zephyr does - this one is just actual professional equipment that's standardized seven ways from sunday and doesn't have that tryhard gamer look that the Zephyr does in my opinion. The only downside I can find after wearing this for almost a year is that the moisture from your breath will not exit the mask through the exhalation vents, so after wearing it for a while, it'll be pooling with condensation. The cost of this mask, one filter and a set of 10 pre-filters? around 65 euros :)
I’ve joked about wearing a Soviet gas mask going to the store, but here we are lol. Kind of reminds me of the Machine56 head accessories and helmets that make you look more cyberpunky. It’s definitely more of an aesthetic accessory then a viable protective measure. That said, after all is said and done I never want to see a mask again lol.
I though I was going nuts seeing your lips going thiccer with the mask! Also this is surely better than an actual gas mask audibility-wise, from personal wearing experience it's a lot more muffled with a gas mask. That said the visible mouth reminds me with the Raimi Green Goblin
