Very nice review, thank you for the effort put into the graphics / sound to illustrate the difference between the Wireless Pro and the Interview Pro

Thanks for this comparison, so far you are the only person who has made a direct comparison with the interview pro versus using the wireless pro transmitter and close proximity i.e. how it would be with the interview go handle. I’m currently contemplating selling off my older Deity Connect Wireless kit and Saramonic Dual kit and adding one or two of these Interview Pro mics to my Wireless Go 2 kit.

Thank you. I have been waiting for this mic setup since Rode Introduced the Wireless Go. Finally it's here, now. With 32-bit built-in recording, it means even if I don't have my receiver, I can record in my iPhone video and get the perfect audio in post. This device alone is very useable, and I only wish that Rode upgraded the Rode Wireless Go Pro or all series design since it is square; technology is getting much slimmer and can do as well.

Seems like finally a proper contender against the Yellowtec iXm mic which has been industry standard for on the go journalists for radio broadcasting. The Yellowtec ONLY has an built in recorder (which isnt 32 bit float) and no option for a wireless receiver. So that's a great plus for the Rode.

Do you think that yellowtecs LEA levelling assist will make broadcasters stick with the ixm?

Røde interview pro will be a great addition to my microphone setup. The omnidirectional polar pattern, condenser capsule, low plosives and low handling noise makes this hand held wireless microphone an absolute joy to listen to. 32-bit float, gain assist, on-board recording & 200 m range line-of-sight are all welcome additions as compared to Rode’s TX-M2 wireless handheld microphone. Excellent review. Please keep up with your great work. Cheers from Perth, Western Australia. 🙏😁🫶

The whole point of a cardioid pattern was originally to minimize feedback in a live audio setting. An omni mic is a bad choice if the sound is being amplified and projected right there where the mic can pick it back up and reamplify and reamplify etc. Cardioid mics were invented to keep that from happening - just put the speakers in the dead spots where the pattern doesn't pick up sound well. For recording, cardioid is great for one person or one instrument - again, just put the things you don't want in your recording in the blind spots. Omni is great for picking up all the voices in a space - the interviewer and interviewee. As long as they're the loudest voices, they will be the loudest thing in the recording.

So you’re saying this would not be a good mic to use at trade shows or loud environments? Would it be similar to using the Rode Wireless Pro with the Interview Go mic stand?

Exactly, Aiden. When I was at Radio NZ we used the Shure sm63s which, for a blind user who needed to point the mic in someone's general direction in a crowd, omni was a godsend. It would be great if this could have interchangeable capsules. It certainly has sound quality superior to the Wireless Pro and I would use it as a stand-alone recorder only. Given the 32-bit float I would even risk the fact that it doesnt' have an output for headphone monitoring.

I would have much preferred standard user replaceable batteries. There’s is no guarantee how long replacement service of the proprietary internal battery will be available, or how much it will cost to have serviced or whether it needs to be shipped to Australia.

Hello and thank you for this video! We can't wait for it to be available in Europe, 1 month to go! Question: is there any chance that this RODE INTERVIEW PRO will be natively compatible with the DJI OSMO POCKET 3? I mean, without having to use the Rode Wireless Pro USB receiver?

Hi, the Interview pro have a high gain if you compare it with a Shure SM58 or a Rode Reporter ? I mean, did you have to push the gain to high (and introduce noise) in post production when you normalized the audio to have a good signal ? If you put the mic more far away from your mouth you heard something ? When we interview someone we don't like to stick it in the person's face :-) Thanks !

Ewaste is a real concern, something I didn’t consider when buying a set of wireless pro mikes. Battery failure after 5 years, restricted recording time after 3 years? My next Mike purchase will be better informed, hope Rode can see the way the wind is blowing.

For the sake of simplicity and its ability to wirelessly connect with the RodeCaster, could this be used as an effective singing microphone? I was going to go with a Shure beta 58A but wondered (As I’ve just learned of this product) if it might work well because of its convenience and simplicity. Thoughts?

I'm thinking of it for events and shows too for the local recording. If you don't already have the Rode wireless lavs kit, they aren't including a receiver so that will be an additional cost. I'm thinking of just getting mic and using a small cabled camera mic for scratch and sync in post.

I'm torn on the Interview Pro. I just did field coverage in Philadelphia for WrestleMania with my Movo WMX-2 with a handheld attachment and would've loved a more elegant solution like this mic. However, I greatly appreciated having a cardioid pattern with how much easier it was to isolate the sound of my subjects compared to how much nat sound was around me. Also, the button/antenna placement would not be conducive to if I wanted to use a mic flag to maintain branding. I did see some of the NAB footage and it sounded good, but I really want to see how it does in other places. I'd be curious to see what pricing looks like around holiday season and if they bundle with any receivers to make a full kit.

Great review but . . . you perhaps should split out radio interviews/recording from video. Radio interviews etc are typically solo affairs . . . so where’s the ability to monitor your audio. You cannot/should not rely on 32bit technology to get you out of jail. Wind noise, extra loud conditions (traffic, disco, machinery) are going to impact your audio. As a pro, I always monitor my recordings with headphones. This is less of an issue in say video recordings where you have a camera operator to listen out for problems, assuming they’re professional enough to monitor the mic’s input with headphones. However, nowadays videoing is a solo affair too - so audio monitoring is equally problematic. Even that mic handling noise you mentioned will only be heard if you’re monitoring with headphones! If this mic is used as a standalone field recorder, it really needs to include monitoring. In 40 years of professional tv and radio production, the one thing I’ve learnt is you never leave home without your headphones, assuming you can actually plug them in somewhere. If this mic cannot offer that, then that for me is a game changer.
@sweetsfiend209
@sweetsfiend209 Месяц назад
Seems cool, but why not just add 32-bit recording to one of those wireless XLR transmitters that plug directly into a microphone? Then you can use any mic you like. I'm actually surprised nobody has yet made a recorder of any kind in that form factor (wireless capable or not). Or am I missing something?

I have the Rode Wireless Pro and would use the Rode Interview Go with wireless pro for interviews. Would this mic be a big enough upgrade to justify the purchase? Concerned about loud trade shows and background noise environments. I have a few of those type of events coming up this summer. Is there a better option for that use case? Thank you for the assistance.

Sooo... I had Sennheiser SKM 100 G3...I am selling them for the mics. I also had Sennheiser ew100 lav packs. I have not been using them because I started with Rode Go IIs. Now, I am all Rode wireless Pros. I have been asking my audio how they view the Rodes. They all reply "toys" but not knowing the great features in them. I am sure they will say the same as these. I have jumped ship from Sennheiser to Rode despite how hard it was to sell my Sennheiser

This not your typical interview mic. Interviews mics are typically long and slender. Slender to put on any mic flag, and long to make it easier to reach your guest. You can squeeze a mic flag on this but it’ll cover up your buttons and place your hand closer to the antenna. Weird design considering they call it an interview mic.
@DarkCornerStudios
@DarkCornerStudios 2 месяца назад
Ok then...which wireless mic would you say is a better option? Pretty sure you can get custom flags for it...and aside from that...all of your complaints are very superficial when considering a piece of gear to do your job with.
@Spinflight
@Spinflight 2 месяца назад
When shooting red carpets here in Los Angeles, we try to keep the interviewers hands out of the shot as much as possible. Having a longer slimmer handle allows us to do that. This “interview” mic makes you put your hand in their face in order to get close enough. Perhaps they’ll make a version in the future that allows access to the buttons when a mic flag is in place with a longer slimmer handle. Just my two cents. I don’t think this is a hard ask and I think Rode would see some merit in what I’m saying.
@DarkCornerStudios
@DarkCornerStudios 2 месяца назад
@Spinflight again...the question was...what is a better option for wireless...WITH onboard recording...at this price point You are right...not every mic is for EVERY situation... Honestly if you are shooting a red carpet...I am guessing you aren't using a $250 wires license. You are probably running a bit more of a sophisticated setup
@Spinflight
@Spinflight 2 месяца назад
Yeah I’m running a full Zaxcom set up but it would be nice to bring a smaller kit from time to time. The answer to your question would be a Rode wireless go 2 on the their long interview mic handle.

And the absolutely stupid location of the record and mute buttons. Why don't you comment on that? How can we put a mic flag on this mic without it being on top of the buttons? I don't want to have to slide the mic flag up and down to hit the buttons. This is a dumb design for any journalist who will have a mic flag and that overly-branded foam windscreen. Why does Rode overly brand that products? They are not paying me for advertise for them. Thirdly, omni is the worst for crowd interviewing. Cardioid is the idea capsule to isolate ambient recording-killing noise. Another thing I have not seen discussed is how does the affect wireless? If you use this mic does that take a channel from the receiver? Can you use both wireless go mic with this interviewer mic for three channels or do you loose a channel?
