Good one, Edward. Haven’t seen others do a comparison of a full lineup like this. Very useful. And I have to say, that P420 sounded amazing on that vocal! The 820 also sounded really nice, a little bit thicker, and somehow sounded a bit more mid forward, which is nice.

If you know how to mix any one of these mics will make a hit record. Just record in good environment please. You won’t get the sound you want in a bathroom 😩

The P420 is awesome. I really like how clear and open it sounds.

The P420 is also a fantastic instrument mic. It will even handle high gain guitar cabs with smoothness and ease.

I have The AKG P 820 Tube and it IS once of the best Mics i ve ever used.And Yes i have The AKG C414 XL 2 but the 820 Sounds a little Bit warmer with great highs

Love my c414 xls! Somehow I think it sounds clearer than the c414, but it really is my all time love!!

I've had the P220 for almost 10 years and, interestingly, my model has the possibility of choosing 3 polar patterns, like the P420. It's a shame that it no longer has this option, because, for me, it has the most reliable pickup in the P series. And you video is amazing, it was very enjoable to watch.

I like the ATH 2035 for it's brightness. What else do you recommend that pushes the highs a bit?

If I were putting those in order from good to bad, regardless of price, C414, C214, P220, and the other ones don't matter. The 414 is my favorite mic of all time, and pretty much does everything well. I believe it is better than the U87. I've always felt the U87 felt stuffy, especially in the high frequencies. The C214 surprised me a bit. Very open on the bottom end. I would imagine it would do great on acoustic guitar, maybe violin, better yet on cello.

i rarely see anything about the AKG C314 ... so, may i ask, what is your opinion about it? i liked the idea of adding some extra standard patterns in addition to the C214's single cardiod pattern in order to make it much more versatile at a very reasonable price, but still way less than a C414....

O my god! The difference in the sound stage and depth at 3:11 when the C214 comes in is astounding! Not sure if it is because of the gain or metering in the preamp! But that is quite the change that would make me pick the c214 compared to p-line up! Ofcourse, the 414 is on the top due to the warmth and fullness. I've been thinking of buying a c214 but not sure whether to pick it against the lewitt LCT440 pure, could you suggest?

at this point, is very difficult to hear a difference. Especially when u put vocals on the music and start applying effects...that's y i think i'll go for the 120.

As an audio guy, mic price doesnt matter when you apply post process for the audio anyway at the end, except if you want raw unedited audio.

Many years ago I used a borrowed C414, but not for vocals. More recently, I needed a microphone for some voiceover work. I first got a C214, hoping it might work well. But it just sounded "off" for my voice. Next I tried a P220, and found that it complemented my voice well. I tried a C170, which didn't sound too bad, but it was prone to popping. The P120 uses a smaller capsule, I haven't tried it, but it probably wouldn't sound too bad. P420 also uses a different capsule, and the P820 may share the same capsule as the P420. Honestly, the P120, P420, and P820 frequency response is less flat than the P220, so I fear that they would not work out as well as the P220 for me. My $.02, YMMV.

Tbh, I like AKG P120 more than Lewitt LCT 240 Pro. Lewitt sounds so artificial and P120 has more balanced and natural sound than that.

Ok, so the 414 wins by miles with your voice imho. The P820 disappointed me the most. It was lacking low mid warmth quite a lot. The P420 came second for me, then the 214. Didn't like the 220 and 120 for their harshness in the upper frequencies, though the 220 was a little less dramatic. Again all of this only on your voice and my subjective opinion. Might be different on other sources. Other might have heard differently as well.

43K views for a surface level video. We all know why. Go do yall research. The p120 is great for the money and is exceptional for vocals. Are you talking/singing through a metal case or the microphone? Besides, these are budget microphones. 120 is your go to.

Meh. We each have just one voice, so we need just one microphone. If the C414 is so good, why bother with anything else? This video is tantamount to a high school unboxing with very short sample sound bites which, essentially, prove nothing. You record your voice, in your bedroom "studio", and such short, simple comparison tells us practically nothing. This video is exemplary and illustrates the matter with so many so called "influencers" who obsess over what equipment to use, without proffering any substantial social, political, economic, religious or other message with meaning or substance. Real influencers address real, substantial and significant issues. They are not concerned with what microphone is the most flattering. People of substance have something substantial to say - it is about the message, not the microphone used to record it. Of course, the large number of sales links in the description is the give away - indicating the video, and perhaps the whole channel, is merely intended to showcase different gear and earn a commission driving sales at online retailers. If not, listing one's audio gear is merely boasting - bragging about his expensive toys, none of which have any real relevance to which microphone is "better." Otherwise, who cares shat desk or chair or camera he has? The narrator reveals no professional credentials to establish credibility as an expert, and I am, in fact, not influenced. He would earn more money if he listed more affordable gear, earning more commission on more sales, opposed to promoting expensive gear most viewers will never own. This video COULD have been much better, telling us much more than we can learn from product brochures and retail websites. It could have included longer, more involved sound clips, perhaps recording musical instruments as well as the several voices. The narrator proffers no better reason for his "recommended" price. I wonder what he recommends in other videos - the more good microphones available, the less one's selection matters. There are so many "best microphone" videos recommending different microphones, I am convinced they are pretty much all good - at least good enough - to get one message across. There is no point in obsessing over it. Nobody really cares what microphone we own. Of course, this is just MY take - everyone else is free free to reach a different conclusion. After all, we are not obligated to be persuaded and comments should not be limited to sycophantic praise. Your mileage may vary. TT
