Hi Robert fairly new Sub here. I love all your info. I've worn glasses about 55 years, the last 30 with varifocals. After rather urgent cataract surgery, I've become very light sensitive. I still have astigmatism in both eyes but no longer need the thinned down lenses. I opted for my new glasses to have Varilux physio lenses in Transitions green, G15. I don't know why I never chose Transitions before! Thanks again for your fab channel. Keep it coming!

I bought my first transitions last year (Rodenstock though). I love them and get a lot of compliments. The only things which could be improved is in Winter they turn dark even when no sun is shining and it takes them in cold weather long to brighten up, and maybe on a hot sunny summer day they don't replace real sunglasses, because they do not darken enough (But this is rarely an issue for me so far). And maybe Zeiss is even better with these things

That's a point I really should have made - that they are temperature sensitive. I did discuss that previously here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oKfIhUrOGBs.htmlsi=osjnh5MsnaU6e6wI

It is crazy how online retailers are also offering in-house brands for photochromic lenses in multiple colors. In addition, in-house brands of sunglasses lenses in multiple colors, mirrors, & gradient tints. I've gotten them with progressives. I choose lenses based on optical clarity (ABBE value) rather than the thinnest high index lens. I have a high prescription & they are still able to make it for me.

I found this hugely beneficial and educational. However, I was left wondering if the pair I currently have on order should be a tinted optical, and then get a separate pair of sun glasses until…your concluding remarks. My louxor’s will be terrific as optical and photochromic sun (as you have already decided on my behalf😊) regardless of that, your videos are fascinating and so excellently executed (going under the trees and then out in the sun and I noticed the difference) and I love learning about all the stylistic and technical aspects of eyewear. Thank you for introducing me to a whole new world.

Hi, I will soon buy a new pair of glasses with transition lenses from Essilor. However, I am hesitating between green (Graphite green) lenses and blue (sapphire) lenses. - I think blue goes really well with my black/gold frame. But I'm afraid that every day it will be too present if the blue is too pronounced. Do you have IRL images of the blue tint that gen S transitions sapphire give, please?

Really looking forward to your upcoming photochromic lenses video. As a consumer I've been trying to do my own comparisons between Gen S, Photofusion X, Photofusion X pro, Xtractive, Xtractive Polarized etc. Finding objective data on things that matter to me such as time from clear to dark, time from dark to clear, range of light transmission and lens coatings has been almost impossible to find. Then when I call around to optometrists and ask if they have samples many of them don't carry them, including some of the Luxottica owned shops. There has to be a better way to research these lenses in order to make an informed decision as a consumer.

Why doesn't anyone mention the 4th disadvantage (in my mind the first). Cloudy days! On a dreary cloudy day, having your lenses darken, there is always UV outside, makes your dreary cloudy day more dreary! I now use my Transitions Gen 8 only on sunny or mostly sunny days. I switch to regular clear glasses on cloudy days.

Hi Robert! I was wondering if you would recommend Hoya Sensity 2 over Transitions Gen S? @@STR-ENGNR I didn’t end up getting them in my glasses, but I have seen an oceanic blue lens Sensity 2 blank in person from my optometrist! Thankfully, they ended up letting me time them and although they darkened relatively fast, it took around 5-7 minutes to transition back to clear. In all honesty, I would compare them more closely to the Transitions Generation 7 lenses in performance. In some ways, it was a bummer because I liked the color a lot!! I also found that they hold a little more tint indoors than what Transitions do, closer to an Xtractive lens. With that said, I ordered the Gen S lenses since they claim to reach clear in approximately 2 minutes or less and have improved hues among their style color lenses. The biggest deciding factor for me personally was that the outgoing Generation 8 lenses are already faster than the Sensity 2, so I’d be downgrading from what I had 😁

A pair of clear opticals + photochromics + AdaptiveSun, for a total of 3 pairs, would make the ideal line-up, as long as only functionality be the concern. Other pairs playing with colours and surface treatments could be added for the sake of variety and fashion. Robert, I'm suffering. I live in NYC and can't find glass lenses. Why? Well, apparently in the U.S. there's been too many lawsuits, so no more glass. Every optician says they don't make glass lenses or if they do, they're low quality. I didn't want to waste your time with endless questions so I haven't yet set up an appointment with you. I hate the idea of having to make glasses overseas but it may be my only option. On a positive note, I hope you saw the new Godzilla Minus One movie. You will love the Japanese eyewear in this movie, vintage steel made with real glass lenses. So classic. So Japanese. So... Masunaga.

With the 2x Pari of glasses with photochromic & flash (blue flash for mine & pink flash for my wife) the coating is peeling of around 1 - 2years plus. We didn't notice it.. But gradually as the smudges on the lense did not go away. We visited our Zeiss official store. But they said it is out of warranty period. Thus this comes to the question.. Do I need to replace my lenses every 2x years.. Which is really not cost effective buying these expensive lenses.
