Should You MIX Aluminum With Lead? Huge 2KG Mixed Metal Biohazard Ingot

Should you mix aluminum with lead? In this video, I'll show you what could happen if you mix metals that have a different melting point. I overheated the lead which contained zinc causing it to spark and smoke a lot. After pouring the aluminum lead ingot, it became very brittle and a pieces broke off. I decided to paint the ingot black and add the biohazard symbol on it. The paint I used was provided by Magicfly. They have amazing acrylic paint that dries really fast and works perfect on metal. If you like this video, give it a thumbs up and hit that subscribe button for more.
Make sure to ring the bell to get notified of all my newest videos as they come out. I upload a new video each week so stay tuned.

I'm really curious as to the attributes of this mix. I saw where you said it was brittle, but,,, would you say it was a weighted aluminum? A harder lead? I'm looking for a corrosion resistant metal (the aluminum), that would have more weight (the lead), but would be more stiff than lead alone. Would you say this combo would fulfill that?

I don’t see how you could even alloy aluminum with lead when lead is so much more dense then aluminum seems like you would have to manually mix them together until both metals are melted but I’m not a blacksmith so idk lol 😂

Just lead and aluminium isn't bad. In the aluminium-industry, lead is very often mixed in. It strengthens the aluminium for those cases it has to be used in a lathe. Just be 100% sure there is no zinc in it.

@vantajmnextajm2402 3 года назад
@@gilles111 why not zinc?
@gilles111
@gilles111 3 года назад
@@vantajmnextajm2402 You can mix zinc with aluminium, there are some very strong and well conducting alloys of aluminium, zinc and magnesium - even used in space ships. Problem by mixing in conditions like in this video, at home without the non-oxygen-surrounding and very strong fume/smoke extraction you will find in factories, the zinc will produce very toxic fumes (and most gasmasks / respirators won't protect against those fumes). So that's why it isn't a good idea to mix in any zinc. The result can be seen at 3:06 in the video.
@vantajmnextajm2402
@vantajmnextajm2402 3 года назад
@@gilles111 that's because of overheating. Unless u boil the zinc (about 800C needed) vapor won't spread into surroundings.
@gilles111
@gilles111 3 года назад
@@vantajmnextajm2402 Yes; but the problem is, aluminium needs to get above 660C to melt. So you have just a very small line between melting the aluminium and vaporize your zinc in a blazing forge without any reliable temperature controller. Yes, it could be done without the fumes but the risk of going into the high temperatures is very real. So, if you don't have to put zinc in your alloy at home, just don't do it.

As to the question what you should do with the boat... Well it looks to me like you're probably in Florida so plenty of lakes and rivers around. I would cut the bottom out and make a glass bottom boat if it was me. I'm here in Central Florida and have thought about it many times but just haven't done it yet because I'm lacking a boat but I'm looking for it flat bottom John Boat or something simple and cheap that would fit comfortably into my virtually non-existent budget for such things
