You get the whole Nutnfancy family in this video...very rare! With 10,000s of safe motorcycle riding miles under us at this point (not LastSuspect!), we discuss whether your own motorcycle riding decision. You might think we will outright advocate the motorcycling experience for everyone. Not true, in fact quite the opposite. Instead, in this free feature length video, we discuss YOU and if you are ready for this particular "dangerous thing" in your life. Piloting things is what we do in this family, we're good at at it, and we enjoy it. But it goes much deeper and we talk about several key aspects you need to consider first: safety, risk management, experience, training, economic benefits, adventures, styles, situational awareness, the art of multi-tasking, motorcycle choices, buying used, upkeep, coolness factor, insurance considerations, lane splitting, going fast, going slow, carrying cargo and people, cold weather use, bike modifications, and more. You will see some of the many Nutnfancy motorcycle adventures from the past two years on the dirt, in the woods, on the streets and coastlines of several states. It is a fun and engaging talk with the boys in the Nutnfancy garage and even Mrs Nutnfancy makes a surprise appearance. Both purchased and loaned bikes are integral part of doing business in TNP for fun, economy, and adventure and they could do the same for you. Any responsible person can ride motorcycles with high levels of safety. We do. This video provides you with that information for that serious choice. Another foundational TNP Philosophy Video.////////
All motorcycle riders should join and maintain current membership in the AMA.

Great vid NutNfancy project. As an EMT I get asked all the time "you must see M/C crashes all the time" after 18 years in the biz, I can honestly say " not that many " Having said that, when I arrive at a M/C crash and I'm trying to ascertain the "mechanism of injury" (industry term) Usually (not always) the rider is inexperienced, and riding "without any margin for error" When you ride to 10/10th's of 'your ability' you've got 0% margin for error. 10/10th's should be reserved for the track. The racetrack is a controlled environment, public roads are not. If you're considering taking up motorcycling, go to your local shop, walk over to a salesperson, ask to see one of their best helmets. If your first instinct is "ouch that's expensive" turn around and walk out, you're not ready. If you notice in the video the nutNfancy family probably has the equivalent of another new motorcycle tied up in safety gear. At 4:11 of the video they're riding on super sunny day, IN FULL GEAR. Reduce your risk, ride with an acceptable margin for error for your skills. enjoy if yourself if you take it on, see you out there. jp

If we actually had the money it wouldnt be an issue. I just had to laugh though. You are to blame for us getting into hiking so there is a lot of money there. And my first mini 14. It actually has opened my eyes to motorcycling though. I was always someone that thinks motorcyclists are crazy risk takers.

Before you go out and get into motorcycling, maybe this is a good video for you to watch. It's the whole Nutnfancy Family weighing in on the important decision of choosing to ride a motorcycle or not. Fun, adventure, challenge, and economical travel awaits. But put some thought into this decision first. It's another 'dangerous thing' that will add a a wonderful dimension to your life if done right.

+nutnfancy Great video, i really like the drive like a car idea, with the exception of lane splitting, at least at red lights so to not die from a rear end.

I was really excited when you started posting motorcycling videos. I'm an all year rider in the metro D.C. area. Average about 25k miles a year total between an 08 BMW R1200r and a Ural Gear Up. I take my two sons camping and off-roading on the Ural. It's been an incredible bonding experience for us. I'm able to teach them the important lessons of life and being a husband/father through our trips. Keep riding and much love to you and your family.

ATGATT saves skin, saved lives, even if you are driving in traffic two three miles to get a gallon of milk at the convenience store. I LOVE adventure touring on my motorcycle, and I want to continue to do it with all my essential parts still attached.

I'm 50 aznd ride a BMW R1150GS Adventure, sometimes heavily laden on back roads or even off road. If you know how to judge risk and work within your skill level, you'll experience some minor dumps but the risk of a major accident and injury in minimized. I've dumped my bike dozens of times, but always at very low speeds or unmoving, and the bike can certainly take it. I just got back from touring 7 national parks in 9 days, logging 3405 miles. Black Hills, Big Horn, Shoshone forest, Yellowstone, Gallatin, Glacier, Lewis & Clark forest. Awesome trip.

I've just recently learned how to ride here up in Idaho, I own a dualsport honda XR 650L and it is my only mode of transportation currently, I will have to say that motorcycles are a great joy to ride, and I've already laid the 350 pound bike down eight times. I get 160 miles or so out of a full tank for around ten dollars. I would never drive without at least a riding jacket (with plates) and a DOT approved helmet. If you drive safely, the benefits of owning and using a motorcycle can justifiably outweigh the potential risks to your safety (This is why being careful is important!) Thank you all for making this informative video.

I hit a deer on interstate in 2007. Most of the impact was on my right. Was able to stay on two wheels. Stopped the bike walked back to the deer. The deer was dead. Walked the pain and jitters of and continued home on the bike. Sold the bike. Sometimes I think of getting another one mat be some day

***** i'd like to comment on this. See it wasn't the bike that is dangerous here. It was the danger of wildlife. Why are you blaming your vehicle for the nature of a wild animal to stray into a busy street? I've had a friend killed in an SUV by a deer that went through the windshield. Is driving an SUV inherently dangerous too? Of Course not.
@sauerOFkraut

Its a matter of degrees. Is one more likely to survive a deer crash with a motorcycle or car? Even a geo metro has more protection then motorcycle. All driving is dangerous yet when where what whuch are all factors
@nutnfancy
@nutnfancy 9 лет назад
Yep. A car rear ending you is probably a ticket for serious injury or death. Interestingly this happened to Ewan McGregor in Long Way Around. His BMW 1100GS had a cargo rack that probably saved him. This is another reason I'm in favor of lane splitting. You are also between cars for protection at a red light. That is much safer for the motorcyclist. I forgot to say that in the lane splitting video. -nutn

This is all really awesome advice. A hefty portion of what TNP has preached is what lead to me getting my DRZ this past summer, parents think I'm silly for wanting to get armor, but I know it is well worth the cost.
@nutnfancy
@nutnfancy 8 лет назад
+DarkMatter946 Last night we all got caught up on rnickeymouse's channel checking our wrecks, and that armor and leather is what allows you to pop right up and walk home. I don't know why people run jeans on the bottom...even the armored one's I've gotten lack a good chassis to attach the aramid panels to. My fave's are some good knee/shin pads underneath some kushitani leather jeans, and even then I've put in reinforcement stitching. -TD

Those jeans look amazing, way outta my price range atm though. I know you guys shy away from budget protective gear, but are there any good recommendations in a lower price range? (edit: and they don't make them in my size. 6'5" with a 40 waist)

55 year old motorcyclist here with over 40 years riding experience on the road and track. Firstly I have to commend you on raising two of the most objective and sensible young men I've had the pleasure to listen to and also for echoing what I have told many prospective motorcyclists. With that out of the way... I lump drivers into two categories... proactive and reactive. Proactive drivers are constantly scanning their environment, are on the ready, rarely caught off guard and make excellent motorcyclists. The reactive (preoccupied) type inevitably end up a statistic. As for the people that are anti-motorcycles... I say, Riding a motorcycle is like flying a plane in many ways... If you fall off a bike or fall out of the sky... the results as well as your chances of survival are similar however, if you follow the rules... you can fly a plane or ride a bike, have a boat load of fun and not die or permanently disable yourself. Thanks again Nutin' for another great video. p.s. Would be great to see you and your boys do a track day or better yet... Take Nick Inatsch's Champ School.

Great video guys, lots of good advice, particularly that a motorcyclist NEVER stops learning! I have been riding for 50 years and must have ridden over 1 million Kilometres and I know that I will never know it all. I am retired now but in my life I have trained over 1000 people to ride motorcycles in the UK and here in Australia. After 31 years riding I attended three courses at Keith Codes Californian Superbike School and I finally learned HOW to ride! Still learning however! This course is HIGHLY recommended. As I have ridden almost every day for 50 years, and am still here, motorcycling cannot be that dangerous. I cannot contemplate life without motorcycles, if you do not ride you are wasting your life! I have ridden 9000 miles throughout the USA in 2013 and driven across it from Denver Colorado to Florida and then up to Long Island and New England this year. I met a lot of great bikers but was terrified for the safety of almost ALL motorcyclists in the USA who DO NOT WEAR HELMETS, never mind other safety equipment. That's enough from me, love your work Nut'n!

Great video guys, you nailed so many important two-wheel topics on the head (no pun intended (HJC)). Last week someone asked me if I'm scared to ride around with texting cagers and such, I paused and replied that I guess that's part of why I ride? Strange but true, I feed on the challenge I guess. I also ride because it's a never-ending progression, we can always go new places and learn to be safer while doing so. As you guys mentioned, my best advice to new riders - you will crash. Ride smart, learn from more experienced riders, and wear the right gear. Thnx for the vid, good stuff

I couldn't agree more with what you, Last Suspect and Tactical Doodle said in this video. In fact, I'm going to send this video to my dad who wasn't too happy about me riding across the country because he was afraid of the risk. By the way, if you and or TD and LS are ever near the SF Bay area, let me know! I've been a subscriber since 2008 (with my old channel), so you could call me a double owl, super subscriber and whatnot. I'll go for a ride in the dirt or on the road, go shooting, go for a hike, or whatever. Also, I'd be totally willing to ride out to Utah to do whatever with you guys. Adventure riding and shooting are my two favorite things. Keep being awesome, and keep up the good work with these videos! You guys always amaze me!

I love to ride motocycles because of the visceral feeling; the connection to the thing you're on. While riding I often think about the motor, suspension, brakes and how they are all working together. I like to be precise when riding; keeping a good line.

I totally agree with everything you guys said in the video. I started out riding by taking a safety course. I definitely learned a great deal. I started out with a Yamaha XS750, then I got a XJ1100 and a XJ750. Late last year I bit the bullet and bought a 2013 DL650. I fell in love with the bike instantly. My buddy has a DL1000. He had been putting off getting it on the road for a couple years now and this year I forced the subject and loaned him the cash so we could get riding together. We both have similar mind sets and evaluate the road the same way. I enjoy riding, but having my buddy with me makes it much more enjoyable. I'm trying to impart my skills that I learned so he can get his motorcycle endorsement. The end of July we will be heading out on a week long trip. Should be a blast.

Guys thank you so much for this video. Many of my friends and coworkers ride two wheels. Every one of those I've mentioned to that I would like to get into biking, all have recommended NO for me. When I was young a family member had life changing motorcycling accident(ran over by a semi tractor trailer), so for a long time I didn't have an interest. Now that it's become popular, unfortunately I've had several neck surgeries, so what would be a laydown for the average joe, could be catastrophic for me. I've pretty much given up on the two wheel, don't want a trike, but always on the lookout for a T-Rex or a CanAm Spyder. BTW: Nutn, you should be proud, you've raised two intelligent, mature, fun loving young men. Happy Father's Day!

Thanks dude for that great comment and I'm glad your friends are giving you the straight skinny. I agree with them. It's totally ok NOT to motorcycle after answering these questions. There will always be a risk and we can all die doing it, maybe having done nothing wrong at all. Luckily there are lots of other ways to have fun adventures. For instance if you live near water, I like running a Zodiac (RIB) to fish, dive, and explore. -Nutnfancy

I’ve ridden to Sturgis from Oregon twice, and have ridden every state west of the Mississippi, but unfortunately, my back forced me to quit ridding and sell my last bike almost 10 or more years ago, and the desire to ride is totally gone, and at my age it would be stupid to even think about riding again, but I do enjoy these videos. To me, just about everything you said in this video seemed like common sense, but too many ride for the wrong reasons. The fresh air in your face, the smells you don’t get in a car, flowers, different grasses, freshly mowed hay... cow poop, diesel fumes, the occasional bird in the face (another good reason to wear a helmet) and the bee stings. Oh yes. That feeling of a bee stuck in your helmet but you can’t panic, you still have to ride that bike even tho you know you’re going to get stung. I’ll never forget that skunk I ran over on the freeway at night in Wyoming. Barely had enough time to brace myself before I ran over it. Lots of good memories.

Our brother in law was killed a month ago running an errand 6 blocks from his home. He was a professional truck driver by trade and one of the most experienced, cautious riders I've ever ridden with. He was T-boned by a millienial age loser high on illegal prescriptions in a car without brakes. He never had a chance. There were no skid marks and he wasn't wearing a helmet. I've ridden for over 35 years without a helmet, but never again.

Nutn'....outstanding video. I'm a "mid-life" rider, and decided to start riding at ripe old age of 42! It's been the best decision of my life, and have enjoyed every mile on the bike. I bought a Harley to start with...a Sportster. And the urge for long trips started to take over. I've now graduated to my current bike...the BMW 1200GS. My Harley buddies gave me hell, but they get it and understand it. On bike night, I'm affectionately called Megatron. If you've seen the BMW, you'll get the joke. For starters....find the bike that "speaks" to you. Don't get trapped into what's cool or trendy. Go shopping and test ride as often as you can when your in the market for a change. Before I bought my BMW, I road Harley's, Ducati's, Suzuki's, Triumph's, etc. As you stated, we're all part of the club. Every time that I pass another biker and I see them lay out their left arm and wave, I smile. I've had roadside conversations with leather clad "club" guys, sport riders, dual sport era, adventure riders and scooter dudes. I've been taking a break in a remote area and had fellow riders in their cars and trucks pull over to make sure that I was ok...I find myself doing the same now. Again, we're all part of the same family. Very cool! I will also speak about safety as well. I live in Pennsylvania where the Motorcycle safety course is FREE!! Two days in the classroom, and two full days on a 250cc starter bike. They teach you the basic skills to keep you upright, but as you stated...you have to practice. Why wouldn't you take a class that is free. I also went to the 2nd level class For intermediate riders where you bring your own bike. As a seasonal rider, you quickly learn that MC riding is a diminishing skill...practice, practice, practice. I wear padded gear and the best helmet. On hot summer days, it's tough when your not moving but it's piece of mind. I cringe when I see guys in t-shirts and no helmets. I would rather get up limping then lie down in a casket for the remainder...just say in'. Love the video...thanks dude!

I got into motorcycles after my time in the Navy, was big into cruisers. I started working at a Harley dealership in Texas and shortly after I got my first (and only) bike. A Kawasaki Vulcan Drifter someone had traided in. I rode that thing everywhere, about 6 months into it I made probably one of the poorest decisions of my life... I had a full face helmet, riding jacket, chaps, boots, gloves, but I got on late one night after literally 1 drink wearing sweatpants, a t shirt and tennis shoes. I was less than 2 miles from the house when I didn't make a turn and hit a brick wall. I still don't remember the accident or how it even happened, I only remember waking up in the hospital. I had broken my femur just above the knee and shattered my left eye socket. I now have 2 titanium rods in my left leg and 2 plates in my face. By the grace of God I survived and did not loose my eye. I still rode bikes at the dealership after I recovered but never bought another one. I am married now with a daughter that will be 2 in October. As bad as I would love to get back on 2 wheels, the wife is out on the idea and I have to think about my little girl. Thanks for the video, love seeing your family and the values you represent. Keep it up. An original TNPr from 2008

Lots of good advice here for both new and long term riders. Here in Canada the riding season is short, which sucks, but through our mountains near Banff here in Alberta he have some of the best roads in the world to ride through. I started riding small RM50 dirt bikes before I was 10, and ended up with a series of CR250 bikes. At 15 here we could get our learners and ride a street bike on roads under 80km/h in daylight, and I bought the first year of the Honda VFR and never looked back. No major accidents in 26 years, but as the video said, everyone will eventually tear something up, and not getting bent over it is good advice. We have a lot of good used deals here as well, I've gotten either a new or used bike every few years of a few different types, sport, cruiser, and dirt. Again, good video and advice for new riders.

I can attest to the riding with others on mismatched bikes. Super sport and a cruiser riding down snaking back roads is a recipe for disaster. If the sport bike guy is native to the area and the guy on the cruiser isn't, the sport rider needs to lead appropriately. Not blasting off and finding pockets, apexes, and his favorite lines if the cruiser rider is out of sight. You're setting your friend up for failure and possible fatal situations. I know from experience, I was on his cruiser in Baton Rouge, LA and warned him that I will be lost at night and to telegraph by brake pattern before hard corners. Sufficed to say, I hung with him until the cruiser couldn't go much faster without straining the bike. He leapt way out in front, he disappeared and I assumed it was safe enough. Wrong! There was a hair pin turn with the perfect apex for *sport bikes* that you could drag the pegs on and about a 110° turn. It was 2 a.m. and I hit that turn at 85! I was dragging pegs on that cruiser, then I was dragging the exhaust, and with the front brake clamping down while dropping gears ASAP to prevent losing the patch. The turn kept going as around and I was running out of road. I was glad when I had seen the gravel, but still too fast for whatever was ahead of the shoulder. I chose to pull my leg, drop it in the gravel, and ride the grass sitting on top of the bike. I was fine, the bike was fine, and I only broke the front shield with the left pipe looking as though an angle grinder was cutting into the joint. I stood it up and sat waiting for a few 5 minutes for him to show me back to his garage. He came back white in the face as he knew what was about 5' in front of me. A sheer concrete walled canal with a 20" drop. To this day, I never ride with bikes with a cruiser in the mix that isn't local to my area while at night. *Unless* people know to communicate by telegraphing and using a braking pattern to relay the cautionary strip... I won't be dragging a guy to his early plot. Returned to my command (CG-48) on Monday and learned a meaningful lesson when leaders don't lead responsibly.

around the 14 min mark you mentioned riding to Reno that my town and how others where passing you it made me think knowing the road determines speed.....I know 80 from Reno to Sacramento like the back of my hand know every turns where the cops hang out and I will ride that road faster than most...but will be slow on a road I don't know...Riding in my blood...Good video Keep it two wheels down God Bless

I was riding a motorcycle for years (nearly 10 years) as it was my only mode of transport and cheaper overall. Then I finally learned how to drive a car and I haven't been on two wheels since. I miss it. I've never seen its as a cultural thing personally, I know people that do. To me it was a case of waking up at 5am for work to dress up like an astronaut and get soaked through. Fun times haha. I have a Honda Hornet 600, such a great little bike.

i'm from europe and i'm a biker too. yes, it is risky, but manageable. i love to hamer it too, but only on twisty roads with very little traffic (and we have lots of them!) i think that is the key to an acceptable risk level: driving normal (like a car, maybe a liitle bit faster) on the big roads where traffic is and have fun where no traffic is. (of course only inside your personal skillset)

Love the video, got into bikes after many years of having an interest in them but have never pursued it due to family pressure. now I'm 21 i made the decision to go for it and now run around on a little 125cc suzuki GS with L plates as a learner (UK based so this is the law nothing bigger than a 125cc bike for me so far!) loving the fuel economy & allows me to go for rides with family members and friends who are also on bikes. & we have the same anti biker mentality here in the UK too, mostly. People assume we are dangerous and have little to no sympathy when a biker is killed, it's always "the bikes fault" Meh. ride safe all and thanks for the video !

I just watched this video, and I'd like to say, "thank you" for what you've said, here. There are a LOT of people who really should think about what personality they have before taking on risky activity. That being said, I've been accused of being an "adrenaline junky" by quite a few people, because of the activities I have been involved in. I've historically done just about every high-risk activity that you can think of. I built and raced hydroplane boats, ridden motorcycles, joined the Army, mountain climbed (and more often, rappelled down them), flew hang gliders, explored caves (was a member of the National Speleological Society for years), and even had unprotected sex in the 1970s and '80s. But, in fairness, I worked hard to learn how to do these activities safely (well, except for the sex - that's just not safe). I absolutely love to live on the edge - but I am not stupid about it. Today, I still ride on two wheels, but I don't ride a sport bike, I ride a small, slow, laid back bike. I cruise, I don't use the streets as a racetrack. Because of the way I ride my bike, I've been able to avoid having an accident on the road on a bike, ever. I've been riding on the street now for 35 years. I don't ride covered in gear, but so far, it hasn't mattered, ever. If I drove like my hair was on fire, like a lot of people I see ride, I'd damn sure cover every inch of skin with something durable. So, I really like this advice - do "crazy things" but do them safely.

nutnfancy, I just want to say thank you again for the hard work you do in TNP. You provide not only education for us via your gear reviews and life experience but also good, wholesome entertainment. We enjoy all genres of TNP. Recently your adventure videos have pushed my tolerance for not owning a motorcycle past it's limit (sold my last one a year ago to relieve some debt). I am happy to say that last night I acquired the excellent DL1000 V-Strom. Like you, I am all about maximum value and I got this very clean, yellow '03 for a mere $2400. I am looking forward to the new adventures and more TNP moto/ adventure vids.

I have long been wary of getting a motorcycle and I am glad you made this video. I have already decided to get into it as it really feels like something I am ready for and in a good place to do life wise. It has been a difficult decision but I am looking forward to getting into it. I have a bike lined up that I am buying from a friends dad, it's not a sports bike but it's a solid one and reliable which I think is a good place to start. From there I will see what I feel like getting later. I was actually looking at the fjr1300 too before I saw your vid on it. As always keep up the vids.

True story here. I had been thinking about getting a bike for several years. Last year I'm browsing youtube and I see Nutn has a new video. A review of a DL1000? What the heck? So I watch it. Lord have mercy the next week I'm signed up for the MSF course and a week after that I own a DL650. The adventure model like Doodle's. lol For the next six months I have an absolute blast riding that strom everywhere! I won't say I got bored with the Strom, but I did long for something a little more stable at highway speeds and with a little more power. So I traded her for a Super Tenere and man what a bike! Love love love it! One thing about bikes though, it's hard not to wish you had another one. (severe bike envy if you will) I wish I could afford to have several but alas, I cannot. So I'll ride the Tenere for a while and maybe pick up a Multistrada in a year or so. Sorry for the long ramble. Thanks for kicking me in the butt Nutn and getting me out on two wheels! It's like a new life opened up!

it's always been my therapy. I work in Draper, across I-15 from USP, and ride a BMW K 1300s to work. After a long day at work, I look forward to the ride home. I've been riding over 40 years and at the end of the day, riding isn't for everybody. Is it dangerous? Absolutely. My 16 year old has been on the back of my bike since he was 5 years old. He wants the Ducati ST3/4 or the VFR. I've explained the dangers and he loves the idea of sport touring. I've explained to him that I've had people (in Utah) try to hit me. On a bike there is no defensive driving. We don't have the mass to pull off the true defensive driving. It's really offensive driving. You have to be looking for openings, anticipating other drivers actions or lack there of. Skill set makes the difference, so does protective gear.

My FZ1 has been a daily driver for well over a year. And i love commuting with it. However, the 116+ degree summers here in phx have been enough to shut me down this year. i'm an all weather rider by trade, but sometimes you have to be smart when it comes to extreme temps. not only will it affect you. it will damage your gear and bike. Ride safe gents!

I totally agree. There's no way I'd ride in that temp either. Heck, at 100ºF I think twice now. I love my FZ1, a 2008 with Power Commander V. Super fast and light. It'll beat a CRB1000. I know cause I done it. I've toned down the racing lots now though ;0). Have fun come fall time when it cools off. -Nutn actual

I love this kind of video. It'd be awesome if you could do it more often (like 1 every couple of months). I'm getting ready to go on my first Safety riding course here in South Africa. It's a pretty cool company that lets you rent a bike to do the course so that you can get a feel for riding before you go out and buy a bike. I like this because it lets me go riding a few times while being taught safe habits. Still looking at options for what I'm gonna buy but I'm gonna do it after having gone on a few rides.

Something i try to tell new riders...you must be DECISIVE!! Do not second guess a turn halfway through. Do not try and pass if you have a question in your mind if it is possible. Too many people in cars, and beginners on bikes, will make a move and somewhere into it, decide against it and stop/turn into/position themselves into dangerous situations. You must be aware of you and your bikes limitations, and once you make a move, you make that move!!! That and continuous situational awareness, almost like looking 4-5 moves ahead (think a good chess player)

Training. Quality training will mitigate risk. Most riders are not as good as they think they are. Riding a motorcycle will make you a better car driver. Wear the gear (going down is not if... But when). Good tires are cheap insurance (cheap or wore out tires are a hazard). Keep your head on a swivel and look far ahead. Imagine what every car around you might do. Never ride tired or distracted. If you know you are going to be a little tired... take the car. If you are too tired to drive a car... Sleep. Do not drive a bike while chemically impaired. Death is part of life, don't hasten the day... But don't let it rule over your life. Do not be afraid to live and merely be alive.

Just watchin to watch and reflect on where I've come in my riding :) In 5 days Ill be riding for 1 year. Took my MSF about 1.5 years ago (age 19, first year of college) and got my license a few months later. Bought a new CBR250R ABS in June and rode about 7000 miles in 3 months on that little guy! Then I got a 1200GS gently used from a family friend, and haven't looked back since... Always ATGATT, except now I work like .5 miles from home.... sooooo I dont always put my over pants on.... Hi vis jacket, back protector, riding boots, Shoei, and full gloves ever since I began a year ago. 19K miles and going so far! Did a 12 hr/412 mile day on my 250 and went to CO Springs on my BMW in late Oct 2014. 450-550 mile days out and back, one day I rode 12 hours half of which were in the Rockies. I'm ready to quit at anytime once I meet the woman I'll marry, and almost decided to quit about a month ago... but for now, I'm having a blast commuting and touring AZ, and country when I can :D

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but why exactly does being an "advanced" rider give you the right to travel any faster than a car? The speed limit applies to whatever you're driving. I hear you say "drive it like a car". That sounds great, but 99% of cars are speeding on the road anyway... So if its only recommended for a CAR to travel 55mph, why oh why would anyone on a bike pass anyone in a car when all the cars are doing 65 anyway?
