Should You Pick a TOP TIER in Games? | Esport Commentator's Thoughts 

To build off of just playing a character that you like, I think that's why it's so important to try a bunch of different fighting games out! There's no better way to build you preferences than experimenting with different systems and mechanics. This gives you a more grounded perspective on the genre as well.

This was an interesting debate to see, because for me yeah I want to win, but if I don't enjoy the character I'm playing, I'll have no desire to get good and win. Picking characters based off of strength instead of fun factor kills my motivation to get better in the first place

my aim in any fighting game is to show what the character i like is capable of doing within the games engine. This makes it easier to be motivated with any game

I feel like part of the new meta is to cry hard enough the developers will buff a character or nerf who the character has bad matchups with.

Generally I try and look for the best character that I like the look of and try them first. But honestly, in a lot of games I just have favorite characters that I end up playing over and over again even if they're bad. Just some characters look so sick

For me, I pick the strongest character that meshes with me. For example, in Strive, I looove playing Millia, but I mesh with May and Ram, so those are the characters I play in tournaments. I don't like the back of my head idea of "man, if I just played a better character, I'd win more".

Picking a top tier character just for their power would kill my motivation to learn because getting better at a fighting game is tedious and takes time/effort regardless of how powerful your character is. That's why picking a character you vibe with is definitely the way to go. Also, picking a top tier might make you learn less of the game because if their overwhelming strength. With a low tier you have to learn way more of the game to get better. On the other hand, if after you've learned as much as you can with your favourite character and you feel the only thing holding you back is how bad your character is and you start not enjoying losing, then at that point switching to a top tier might actually be better for you.

Being a cool guy is always more important than winning to me so I'll struggle through ass characters in order to be cool

I pick whatever character I want because I genuinely like them. Even though I get tilted I don’t blame my character nor do I switch to top tier. If I really like a character and they happen to be top tier, then I guess I’m playing top tier. If I like a character and they happen to be low tier then I guess I’m playing low tier.

I pick my characters based on if I really click with their gameplay or not. It's more satisfying for me to win with characters I enjoy playing compared to just picking the best characters for the sake of winning, which just leaves me w/ an empty feeling in my experience. Granted that has lead me to play characters who are low-tier in some games, but it's always hilarious when it leads me to playing characters who happen to be top-tier 🤣

And then you have those people who play a top tier complaining about another top tier. Imagine playing SA2 Chun Li and complaining about Yun or Makoto. Or complaining about Bardock when you play Kid Buu.

I struggle when there's a char I like but they don't feel good to play Or when the char I like is super popular. idk I just don't wanna be another face in the crowd, but in the end no one cares lol
