@@Sperium3000 You need to basically have full resources to even try to ToD someone. Yes, even with Hakumen, the King of Robbery. You're not Zanshin (1) >> Kishuu looping without Mugen, which needs 100% Meter.
Small correction about Ragna it's not a set healing it's actually a scale that increases the more drive moves are used in succession. So hitting 5 drive moves unlocks a seal which gets more life steal, so the longer the combo the more you get per drive and devoured by darkness isn't an unblockable
Holy shit bro wassup I never thought I would see one of my favorite content creators in the comment section of another one of my favorite content creators
Yes. Also to your point on characters playing their own game disrupting tier lists is spot on, this literally happens every time someone from the east and west discuss Kagura as America thinks he's a C tier character but Japan thinks he's A tier. Not sure why that is but it is and it's been like this for years.
He’s definitely A tier ion get the arguement for him being C tier. He can control the screen very well, feeling oppressive when your opponent plays him well.
@@bnashtay2278 yeah but think about how many characters in the game can do the same thing. it's not that he's bad or anything, it's just that the game is balanced so well that he doesn't stick out over the others.
@@bnashtay2278the problem most people on America have is that his buttons themselves and his mobility overall are very slow. Yes the buttons are big and yes his damage is asinine when he does get it but if you want a big sword character to play at high level with you'd honestly just be better off picking Es.
The way I like to describe BBCF to my friends is this: there is no game out there which feels more like a battle shonen fight scene. The characters aren't just designed to be unique, they're also designed to fulfill specific power fantasies, their kits are extremely cohesive on both a mechanical and conceptual level. While I love Guilty Gear, some of the more weird designs they have feel so outlandish that it's difficult to imagine what kind of person may enjoy playing them. I never have that with BBCF, even with the weirdest of the weirds like Izanami, Nine and Arakune. It's pretty clear to understand what each character will be trying to do, and that is a great thing in my opinion.
"extremely cohesive" is exactly the opposite of how i describe the game to people i usually say something like "every character has their own gimmicks and systems making them play almost by completely different rules then the rest of the cast, playing against almost every character feels like you are playing a different game and almost every character is super fucked up"
@@garethmagis I said the characters' kits are cohesive, not necessarily the game as a whole. In fact, I think BBCF definitely has an issue with mechanics bloat. But as far as character design is concerned, all of their tools exist to contribute towards a certain goal, while still allowing for enough variance to allow people to create their own personal playstyle. Which is very impressive, in my opinion.
Central Fiction and Rivals of Aether are the best games to ever give character gimmicks. And i hope more fighting games follow their philosophy. Cause at least to me. It makes characters a lot more interesting rather than just having a cool looking frame data move
Rushdown Revolt is an amazing Indie fighter which barely has players at the moment but its chugging along with updates for the big beak the grappler can throw you multiple times while off stage and one character is Ice-Climbers but way more interesting
Seeing the RU-vidr that got me to really want to put a bit of effort into fighting games talk about the one franchise i`ve loved for years now brings me an honestly crazy amount of joy. I`m not very good at any, i try my best and just mostly try having fun, but im getting there.
I absolutely love this game but as a new player it can be so so hard to get into and actually have a chance against people but I still love it and am determined to master Es :)
Well the game has an amazing cast of character, simple but deep mechanics (and if you played any previous Guilty Gear you'll feel right at home) and it's the climax of one of the most convoluted yet most beautiful stories I've ever had the pleasure to experience. It's not a question of "is it worth it?" It's a question of "why you haven't done it yet ?"
Here's my why: -Judging from Chronophantasma, the story has *no gameplay.* Well yes, but like 20 fights... Fascinating. And most take long to play again. At that point, why not make a movie? -There's other modes at least, but they're all under the "play again but with a different goal" repetitiveness with not much change. It gets tiring. Basically, there's no content. (Now I'm thinking twice the more I investigate) -"Simple mechanics"? I disagree. Heck, even *GekkoSquirrel* poked the "simplicity" of the game. I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, maybe except it'll take a lot of time to enter Online because of the mechanics (< that's me) and some might be scared of how complex BB is, but it's ok. *This is a big one:* -It's another (2D) Fast-Pace, High-Combo Fighting Game... I'm happy with 2 Guilty Gears, DNF Duel and Them's Fighting Herds. Even I have 2 BBs and some others FGs, but I'm not into them. And the issue is most of them (even the one I like) are, again, fast-pace, high-combo fighters, *an FGCs favorite,* and with almost no content. So why buy another one like BB CF. I want something like Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter and Akatsuki Blitzcampf level of pace and combo-level, but most I want aren't in Steam and/or have similar issues to the repetitiveness. (Hopefully Street Fighter 6 fix it)
Oh, is the story of the series over? I’m actually just now checking the series out (although not with the games, with Remix Heart and Variable Heart lol. I’m not sure that I’m going to play the actual games, but I might (: I just really like Mai’s story and stuff for personal reasons)
@@gameboyadvancedsp6727 to me it's sounds like CF isn't your tipe of fighting game (all the ones you listed are traditional 2d fighting). As for the mechanics I don't think they are particulary complicated, as Gekko said it's the fact that each character plays so vastly different from each other that makes the game difficult to learn for a beginer (I was facilitated by coming into the series early with CS2).
Bb is probably one the most stylish and fun fighting games I’ve ever played. The characters, the music, and gameplay, all of it is fantastic. It’s probably the best feeling fighting game I’ve ever played. The controls are so responsive and very well done.
each person is a ride it why I like more anime isk fighters more then most Fighting games like take Rival Schools its 3D but in the sequel you can combo with two characters to switch between on the fly an the third changes your specials all with goofy AF animation like Nurse cracking your back for a heal
Funnily enough, I got BlazBlue Central fiction on the Switch as a means to be evenly matched with a local friend of mine when playing a fighting game. He was extensively familiar with Mortal Kombat while I was more familiar with Super Smash Bros but playing either one of those would result in one of us dominating the living hell out of the other who wasn't very familiar with the other game. I got BlazBlue Central fiction on the eShop cuz it seemed like it would be a good middle ground and we'd both go into the game blind and learning it's mechanics from there.
Any BlazBlue is worth playing at anytime honestly because on top of great combat, every game is literally drenched in content so even if you have no one to play with, there's lots of stuff to do
I didn't understand most of the things you talked about this game, but it was still fun to watch! I just bought today 2 blazblue games, so I guess it's difficult to understand some of the things unless I play the game myself.
I kinda feel like Blazblue revolutionized fighting games with its visionary Drive System, so much that Street Fighter 5 tried to copy it but failed. (some older games touched onto these unique mechanic systems, but never properly followed through the way BB does) Also boasts a pretty compelling story for a fighting game as well thanks to using "time" to subvert the biggest downfall of other fighting games: Killing characters in order to drive the story, but losing said characters usually never to return - causing sadness.. Lastly, impeccable English voice cast.
A game good for party and family alike. Every event in our place, Blazblue was the key party for us family, cousins and friends due to its nature capable to have simple controls for casuals and technical control for veterans. So many characters with unique abilities and design is equal to the money's worth.
I like this game cause Susan says Oh and starts deleting your healthbar, also his theme is insane and has funny Japanese people chanting for your death or some shit, truly one of the Susans of all time
A game with 36 characters great visuals amazing music rollback and huge single player content But most importantly it won't cost you more than 25$ and with 1 dlc characters it's a steal
I love how BB allows you to play defense at your own pace instead of trying its best to make you feel miserable when blocking (except for a few matchups like Valk or oki setup characters). Just the facts that there's no RISC, throws are reactable, Barrier has it's own meter, you get wake-up options and most overheads are slow do so much to make me love BlazBlue so much more than I ever could with GG (despite Venom and now Asuka).
@@XirbttGG throws arent reactable though. A 3f window to break in strive as compared to a 15f break in bbcf (that is also easily OSable in normal situations, either way.)
Valk can make you feel terrible while blocking? I picked him up recently simply cause he's daddy and a furry but so far I feel like he is quite slow. Not like grappler slow but like methodical yknow. Love him, still can't bring him to his full potential. Rn just learning some characters without being optimal though
@@HazeEmry Wolf Brake jA is one of the very few instant overheads in BlazBlue that requires no setup and no meter for conversion. The damage return isn't massive, but it's very good.
0:45 Arksys doesn't have anything to do with Entropy Effect though. The game is developed and published by 91Act which is a Chinese company (the game is even featured in the steam chinese games festival that's going on right now). The game uses assets from BBCF (sprites and voicelines), but other than that, it doesn't have any connection to Blazblue whatsoever.
Thus us literally one of your best videos ever. “I’ve never used this in my life” and “I’ll be putting Subway Surfers up during this bit” are literally two of your funniest moments ever.
As a casual I love how different each character feels, some are way too weird to understand on the fly though, like Kokonoe's gravitons, but most are pretty intuitive.
I god damn love Blazblue. I first got into fighting games with Chronophantasma Extend and I was utterly captivated not only by how much fun I was having with the game, through it's characters, story, and handful of extra game modes to mess around in, but it was the first fighting game I watched tournaments for and was totally enthralled by what I was seeing. Matches between tournament players are such displays of not only excellent fighting game skill, but demonstrations of extreme character mastery and matchup knowledge in a game where different characters, as you said, are playing totally different games to one another, and it makes for some of the most awesome stuff I've ever seen. My only small gripe with BBCF is that one, it has no English dub, which I know I know, doesn't matter, but I really liked English Ragna, and two, some of the characters *cough* Nine *cough* Izanami *cough* can be pretty insane.
Small correction: the red health bar does have an extra effect of giving you a slow passive meter regen. And actually similar case for Active Flow - it also gives you an OD gauge regen, which is why ending combos with Exceed Accel can sometimes be a better play than going for higher damage. Also worth noting that burst costs more gauge than Overdrive and locks you out of Active Flow for the whole round, so bursting is generally a lot more committal than in GG.
The big problem of this game is that it is dead in my region, I cannot find new players to learn with, and older players just give up after 2 matches because it's too easy for them
5:30 the health bar switching into a lower state actually does do 2 things. 1: as you said allows astral on the table 2:you gain a automatic heat gain at 0.11 heat over 10 frames with the 10th specificlly giving 0.02 heat. you know when its active when the heat bar is lite up. its suprisingly a lot that has let me wait out specific situations to gain that little bit of heat to pull things out. ive personally never found anyone who knows a move is a guard break as a "unblockable" since their is a tier of moves that are unblockable that even go beyond barrier devoured by darkness as a few people have stated in the comments is only unblockable in overdrive, i love knowledge checking people with this ragna the 13000 health char because how much you can life steal sometimes balance in BBCF is funny, tagar one of the chars that has a slow cetch you in the mixer litrally just dumpsters one of the most oppresive chars izanami because tagar has a easy landable command grab that ignores the rib cage, but only average vs everyone else
So... 9 is FG Invoker. That's kinda great. Honestly, the whole concept of "Tier list < matchup" reminds me a lot of Dota. A choice in that game is based on the situation, and it rarely matters how 'bad' one is because each has a niche that they, uniquely, fulfill. It's a fantastic design approach.
16:06 Me playing Susan as a sub watching this. Joke aside, BB has been my main FG since last year. Initially I didn't expect much but it quickly grew on me. Being originally an SF player, BB's gameplay feels surprisingly close to SFV, with ABC being Light, Medium and Heavy. All the terms and story are also a lot more accessible than GG, which I played before but never really got into after XX and Xrd. It got me from being a complete trash at FGs in general into an average low level scrub. It's actually fun to do combo challenges and stay frequently in training room and really feel my skill slowly getting better over time, something even SFV didn't manage to convince me to. While it's true that the game has a small player base right now, it's also one of the friendliest FGCs I've ever seen. Veterans will most likely welcome newbies and even offer you good advice to improve. There are players of all level across Discord so with a little bit of research, new players can find Discord servers with nearby players around their level and enjoy the game. The game is really fun now that rollback netcode is a thing. For just a few bucks it's definitely worth a try.
I discovered Blazblue from like one year ago, I now it's one of my favorites fighting games. I completed my dream of use a main a grappler character without using 360 motion with Bullet (Skipping KOF xD).
this game was eye catching back then in arcade center, i play this game because the good looking background, and i fall in love with noel when i thought she has a short hair but then saw her winning animation, also i thought i was good at the game because i choose the easy style every time i play, i got embarrass after losing many fight in anime con because i don't know how to play on a ps4 controller, and everyone was good at it nobody using stick.
The way you explain the complexity of certain characters is amazing. It just gives the feel of how brain frying it is. I only played Jubei for the game so far, and I can feel how the can be this complex.
Great game for sure, but getting into bb at this point is certainly no easy tssk. I hope arcsys does something along the lines of strive and makes a new game. You can say whatever about strive being simplified, but it got a lot of people into the genre.
@dapper_ghost and if they don't then only the legacy players are going to play it after a month or so. Ppl need someone with comparable skill level and it's easier to get into a game that has less legacy.
I came from bbtag, apparently the worst and simplest bb game. If it gets people into the game then it should be good no? am currently trying multiple characters and having fun and wouldn't have known about bbcf without bbtag@@Rambrant
@@HazeEmry BBtag is bad because it completely removes character gimmicks from any pre existing characters and that fucking sucks. This is why BBtag died.
@@notimeforcreativenamesjust3034 understandable, but it got me into bbcf so I can't hate it. It's also easier to play with people who don't play fighting games normally
As a Nine main, I must say learning the spells and combos that they make possible is one of the most fun and engaging fighting game experiences ever. It felt like I always was learning new shit and there was always an option for everything, I just had to learn how to set it up. This is also why I despise BBTAG, as they completely gutted the spells and mana system to the point where absolutely none of the knowledge I have translates and she's now just as boring as everyone else.
To be fair, everyone got butchered and toned down to fit with the rest of the franchises, even UNIEL if i recall had characters "nerfed" per say, the biggest example being Vatista, Nine was just a victim of a game that didnt seem to be thought so well.
I play almost every fighting game that comes out but Blazblue is the only one I keep coming back too even after so many years, there's truly no other game like it.
I used to play BBCT with my brother on the 360 and even back then when every character was as basic as they can be (Ragna, Jin, and Noel are still pretty close to the old versions) everyone was very unique. Arakune was also able to curse you in one hit making the game essentially a running sim as so you wouldn't get hit making him the best character at the time. We used to have it to where every time one of us lost we had to play as Carl until we one since he was the worst character unless you were able to infinite
i love bb so much i still hope it will comeback with a fg i for sure prefer it over gg even tho i like gg ALOT characters in this game prolly my favourite in any fighting game, i even indulged in the lore and story and did my best to understand it with also playing through entirety of story modes and also watching the anime
more players means more people to play with so hell yeah! If anyone ever wants to try out this game, they really should! the tutorials are nice and there's a nice amount of characters to choose from. also more players means HOPEFULLY MORE CHARACTERS TO FIGHT I HAVE ONLY FOUND RAGNAS, HAZAMAS, TERUMIS, JINS AND NU-13s!! _GET ME OUT OF THE CORNER PLEASE_ _(internally screams in Valk main)_
I remember being introduced to this (and Guilty Gear Xrd) by my collages local fighting game group. Always wondered why people got upset at me deciding to pick up Arakune despite already picking up and loving Faust from GG Xrd.
Blazblue calamity trigger was the first game I ever remember playing and I played it during a party in a random dudes room, then he let me keep it and a couple months ago was the first time I learned that it was a blaz blue game and what it’s name was very fun memory
In 2022 my friend introduced me to Blazblue in the third game,chronophantasma...Since then I have bought all of the main line blazblue games(and cross tag) and play every week basically.I think it is save to say that it is my favorite fighting game of all time
BBCF is an amazing game for a very specific audience, and I think the question is not whether or not you should play it, it's whether or not you fit into that category. If you enjoy playing fighting games competitively and have the time and determination to master it without giving up easily, BBCF is for you. Singleplayer content aside, this is not a casual fighting game. It will not hold your hand and there is a lot to learn and practice if you want to be good at it. That being said, the game is so complex and interesting in every match that it's almost impossible not to like if you fit into that category. If you're considering picking up this game I strongly recommend starting with an easier character like Ragna to make the learning process easier and more fun.
Hot take but picking an easier character works for games like Street Fighter but not for GG and Blazblue. If someone was to buy these games and wants to play Eddie/Carl then picking Ky/Ragna is basically pointless for them since those skills don’t transfer at all
@@MILDMONSTER1234 Anyone who plays fighting games regularly would know that a majority of the skills you learn in one game or with one character will transfer to others. Picking an easier character to learn with in any fighting game is a smart idea. This is especially true for BBCF since the game is very complicated compared to most fighters and takes a long time to develop those skills.
@@raiyu2292 if this was KOF a game primarily focused on the system mechanics rather then the characters themselves I’d agree but BBCF learning curve isn’t like most fighters cause everyone is so wildly different from each other. The game is more about 50% character mechanics and 50% the game itself so Learning each character is basically a new skill set entirely and character specific. Learning Kyo and Ryu will help with Terry and Cammy but learning Hibiki isn’t gonna do much for learning Arakune. BBCF is gonna be a difficult game regardless of who you play so you might as well pick whoever looks the coolest/fits your play style unless you really need to understand neutral in which case yeah play Ragna
Honestly, I’m tempted to get the game just to play as Mai 💜💜💜 I just finished reading Remix Heart, and am reading through Variable Heart. This video being made and recommended to me is genuinely feeling like fate. I might just try it out. I’ll admit I’m not able to call myself a fan of the series just yet, and mostly just like Mai and her girl friends in Remix Heart, but I still might just try it out
Watch the Gag Reels they all rock so much Platinum's are soo wholesome Sena an Luna just living life is adorable Luna an Trinity evicted everyone out of Condos
Mai is simple as a new person, just mash C, (other stuff once you get that out of your system are thrusts and command dashes, so pretty beginner friendly while still having a strong game plan and combos)
@@burningcole2538I had heard about that! I would love to play the game, but I’ve been told some unfortunate things… I’m unfortunately too poor to own a gaming PC, so no Steam. And apparently trying it on any other platform will literally have zero people to fight unless you’re on discord. And even then, the players on discord are just insanely good. And I’m a person that takes 10 hours to learn what the average person can learn in 1 hour. If the PlayStation or Switch versions stop being dead, then I will pick it up (and main my favorite character, Mai Natsume 💜💜💜)
@@asuuki2048Fortunately, this game doesn't need a powerful PC to run, a low-end gaming laptop would do (iirc, I used to play this on my old non-gaming laptop that I bought around 2010), until I got my current low-end gaming laptop (which is really decent for playing many modern games at medium to high graphics at 30-60 FPS). So hope you're able to play this someday. Also, the thing about games with a tight dedicated fanbase like this one has (on Discord etc), is that although they may be veterans, there are people within the group that help newcomers by helping them train. So no, you're not going to just get beat up, you only need to ask for a training partner that can take it easy on you while they explain stuff to you.

Too bad we never faced each other (in tournament or casuals) , the video has a severe lack of Kagura as a result. He is BBs only Charge Character and would have been a great mention in your video. Would love to see some more Blazblue from you in the future.
Trust and believed, carl is just as bad as arakune. I faced one, and just know I may have accidentally gotten hit once then was forcefully shoved into a blender. One in which I was only saved from by unplugging my controller and letting this man do his half health combos in peace.
I've played more than 50 hours because of Skoriath and Relli at this point and I've never played against people yet. I've played quite a bit of daddy Valkenhayn, best boi Arakune, ironic Lichi, Nine and Amane against cpus but have never practiced combos yet. I am still having so much fun. I'll one day get in some hours with best girl Rachel and skrungly Hazama. (Internet is ass and just starting up my laptop to play this takes more than half an hour and it stutters sometimes too. I'm not gonna make other peeps online suffer through this). I've said this on a Skoriath video but I'll say it again, paraphrased ofc, "there are so many games I've seen people play that seem fun but don't really capture me when I do play it. So it surprised me when I play this seemingly fun game and ACTUALLY had fun with it. So many diff playstyles, I'm in bliss." There are more games in here than most fighting games WITH DLC and costs a lot less. Try it out, there's someone you'll enjoy playing in it I guarantee it
Best Fighting Game ever made. It's not even a contest in my book. Every other Fighting game feels boring, uncreative and restricted compared to this gem.
Blazblue is my first time having a 2d fighter. And as someone who played Smash all my life its pretty jarring. But I am having the time of my life (By the veterans). I just got this game 2 days ago and I hope more people join it because Blazblue is too underrated!!
I'd love to get into this game, i've tried Mai and i love her because she's so basic. But, can anyone tell me a group/discord community for BBCF? The queue is empty when i tried to play online.
Skoriath made a bbcf vid with Tager in the thumbnail that had a CRACKED Tager in it. I can't play grapplers for shit but grapplers have my respect and awe. Sincerely, a dude w no main but refuses to touch grapplers
Blazblue really just has a character for everyone. Even the most nieche of gameplay styles can be found within the roster, like full on chip damage with Amane and whatever Arakune is doing on my screen. Also Kagura is perhaps the best charge character ever made (he doesn't put you to sleep when you play him)
BlazBlue Continuum Shift has a special place in my heart because I loaded up the story mode and immediately got two gag-reel endings and two bad-endings in a row well before I understood there were branching paths in the first place. Suffice to say that while the canon lore is already wild, the absolute level of comedic nonsense I thought was canon had me hooked for 200 hours. Unfortunately I made the mistake of putting in those 200 hours in stylish mode, so I can barely play with the proper controls and if I try to join an online match I don't even get to play before I'm comboed and reset out of existence.
Fighting game list on my radar: 1) Tekken 8 2) SF6 3) Strive 4) KOF 15 5) BBCF Too many FGC games to play right now. I think a new blazblue will respark interest in the franchise
