I am sure that nostalgia bias is why so many love Mistborn, for many younger people it was a first trilogy. I am in my 50s and only tried Mistborn last year and was bored stupid having figured out the entire plot for the 3 books before the 50% mark of book 1. I haven’t given up on Sanderson and will try something else by him. For me Mistborn was like a bad YA. We are all different. Still looking forward to Book 3 of Kingkiller 😁
My vibe memory is rememember how cumpulsively readable the prose style was even though nothing really happened and being impressed by that. I would like the third book one day but also got lots of other things to read while he exists in editing/writers block limbo
i - not a fan though I have read both - think he is gonna realize he has not moved the plot forward enough for only one book, and will actually write 4 with one being the first half of the day. If he doesnt give up.
Patrick Rothfuss is pretty active in the D&D community. He's played with Critical Role a few times. I knew him from D&D before I read his books. Love his books though
Hi Judith, Thank you for sharing, I am a little late to the party hehe, I want to start reading, I've never read any fictional books, apart from school books, I am shooting my shot at getting recommendations, I am looking for a fantasy medieval book, I love tavern d&d music and fantasy medieval fashion but I just admire it, never jumped into it, would love to read a novel with that kind of vibe. Help is so much appreciated :D
I read the first book in 2020 and it was the first new (to me) fantasy book I’d read in a few years and I loved it! Robin Hobb is my favorite author and this gave me similar vibes when it came to the prose. I’ve yet to read the second book, but I’ll probably read it and do a reread of the first one when we finally know more about when the third book is coming out.
Keeping this on the TBR based on these thoughts and vibes 👍🏻 But I have so much still to read that it can safely wait a few years on the TBR while we see if there is a further book maybe
I distinctly remember Robin Lane Fox plucking this book from my hand and mocking me for reading it. Good times. I own the audiobook of this, so I have re-read it fairly recently - there are definitely some parts I still enjoy, but I similarly find a lot of it quite frustrating. The character's bad decisions always magically result in success, no matter how dire the odds, and it starts to feel a bit stale when you know that the situation will always come out in the character's favour in the end... it always leaves me questioning how much bad stuff is gonna have to happen in the last book to get to where the storyteller is now!! Also, re-reading as a more grown-up person did leave me less fond of the way the female character(s) is written. Still, it was a nice nostalgia trip and I do enjoy the feel of it overall! I'll probably listen again, and if/when that third book comes out, I'm sure I'll read it.
oh robin lane fox.... I just couldn't with the financially bad decisions. No matter how much the book told me he was backed into a corner I wanted to yell 'SAVE THE MONEY!' through the pages
I tried to read The Name of the Wind a while ago, but unfortunately it was advertised as the BEST FANTASY EVER!!! I dropped it really fast and I think that over hype was a big reason why. I might give it another go at some point, but that probably won't be any time soon. Too many other books to read! Also when you said "Where did you come from? Where did you go?" I immediately got Cotton Eye Joe stuck in my head lol.
Does anybody remember the name of the author or/and book that was released in the last 1 or 2 years, which is (allegedly) very similar to Name of the Wind? I can´t remeber or find any information and it makes me crazy...🤯
