For the size class change argument, No retool has ever changed the size class a figure goes into. All of the examples people give have a massive amount of accessories added on to do that. Springer by himself is still a voyager. Retools are a way to cost save because they cost significantly less to produce than making a new mold. So no he didn’t become a leader due to anything related to remolding.
My main issue with a retool argument some people might make to justify cost is that Wreck-Gar had two complete retools and they didn't increase size class at all, so Hasbro's essentially saying the weapons give us Leader value.
The entire reason Hasbro does retools is because it SAVES costs. Being a retool should NEVER be a reason for a figure to be MORE expensive. The fandom is being incredibly weird lately.
The arguement is that the retooling make him: more complex, taller, and more articulated. This isn't like SS32 to SS44 where the only change was aesthetically, it became an actively more expensive figure to produce. Now does that still justify the price? Eh not really for me but it's not nearly as bad of an argument as you're presenting it.
The extra accessories are kinda cool but this guy just feel like 86 Starscream to me even though they're very different. It's almost just the WFC figure but with more accessories just like Starscream. At least this guy is retooled a lot, that's way better then Screamer. I'm probably not gonna get it unless it gets discounted eventually.
I’ll say this at least they actually tried to change this up. Starscreams only change was opening hands. Hell Soundwave isn’t going to be changed besides the paint job.
Same. I'm a newer collector (really properly started collecting WFCT/SS/Legacy stuff in 2020-2021 (iirc of course)), and have zero Springers. And, this guy's perfect. So, easy pick up!
This and the siege mold never really spoke to me. The thrilling 30 one I have is still super solid, and that mold (especially the Sandstorm retool) is one of my favorite toys of all time, so I'll keep that one lmao
The Thrilling 30 version is epic. I'd love to see an improved version of it with slightly better articulation (it's already pretty good), and better tabbing/tolerances in the alt modes.
@@KodyCrimson yes but BIG SWORD. And, while Hasbro is milking incredibly hard rn, this is an improvement in more ways than 98% of leaders that were recolored, repacked, or upgraded have been.
@@basedtruther1020 I agree that Hasbro should have went all out. And I agree that the accessories could have been more height. But it’s still cool to see them make so many changes, much less any at all.
@@KodyCrimsonNot a fair comparison considering those 2 retools don't add anything significant really nor change the overall plastic quality and improves the toy, it is more worth it than the leader Soundwave they want to release i will say that
For me, I have the original Siege version, and yet, the changes really make me want it anyway. The knees being fixed, and chest being more cohesive makes it kinda worth it for me. (need to find him though).
i was debating getting ss86 springer, but i think you've convinced me to get him. my inner gee-wunner loves him so much more than the siege one and i felt a wave of relief when i learned siege springer having bad knees was a common thing and wasn't just on mine lmao
As a Collector going on many years my only Springer on hand is the Thrilling 30s release. Surprisingly good update for that era, but the 86 Springer is a no brainer as it fixes many problems of the original, looks better overall, and has a fantastic cache of accessories. That hammer though could have used some silver paint or at the very least been molded in grey and not the same color as his hands. Looks totally worth the preorder.
I say this as someone who owns Wreck N Rule and T30 Springer: SS86 Springer is very cool, and I wish I had him. That being said, Since I already have two Springers. I don't feel a need to get the 86 one, even though I would love to have that extra engineering and accessories in hand. Wreck N Rule remains cool to me because he has the Wreckers emblem, and T30 remains cool to me because he is a nostalgic and great figure.
I definitely feel like this didn't need to be a retool. Like, it just makes it feel a bit more scammy than I'm comfortable with. Siege Springer, as much as I love him, is not as cartoon accurate as you'd think at a first glance, and this figure doesn't change enough to be close enough to the show model for it to be really worth $20 usd more imo. I feel like a new mold that shared engineering with Siege would have worked way better than just a simple retool.
Tear a little piece of paper, I used a piece from that random white slip all these figures come with, and slot that inside the knee and that'll work as a fix for the knee issue on the siege/wreckers version.
Well I'm sold. It was really just seeing him side-by-side with the Siege mold. I would have liked _more_ differences, like maybe hiding the back wheels in copter mode, but this is enough. Always a favorite character of mine, so it's worth it to have him be this purty.
I consider it a lesson learned. I should have waited for the studio series. Pass for me. So many things on that they SHOULD start off with instead we got it 3 figs Late.
Love it, voyager Hot Rod at deluxe size was worth it, this is the same in my book, but granted im going for a screen accurate collection. If you dont mind the subtle differences you wont care, but I had the extra cash to butn
I'm getting him, but he still does not beat the generation's 30th anniversary sprinter. That is the true wrecker, Springer. This one should never have come with the hammer.
I also got the previous version and I am totally sold that hey fixed everything about the older version... when I see him on sale. I don't mind spending more on things I really want, like the diobots, commander classes, exclusive redeco packs of molds I don't own already etc. But I can wait on that guy, for now. And I got to save up for Superion, Devastator and the 13 primes next year.
I know that they are different scales, so they aren't really an apples to apples comparison. But it kinda blows me away that this guy is basically the same price as Robot Hero Airwolf (3rd party MP Springer). I'd be tempted to get this guy if I didn't already have the siege version. Might still pick him up if I see him on sale.
This guy looks amazing! I need him! I don't have a Springer yet, and this guy's perfect! So, easy pick up! Great bot- and alt-modes, and great accessories, and great detailing, and not-terrible price! What more can I ask for!?
Man, with everything he comes with as well as the mold changes, I'm definitely gonna try and get it- with how many people aren't buying it, I BET I'll get it on clearance-
The triple changers need a scale between voyager and leader. This, Blitzwing and Sandstorm would be great $40-$45 toys, but at leader price plus being a retool I can' personally justify it, even if though its clearly the best version of G1 Springer.
What’s the white hands and the white accessories like the hammer. It looks like they’re glow-in-the-dark, are they ? That would be cool if they are. I did pre-order Springer, been wanting to get a Springer for a long while, timing worked out perfect, for the release and me finally being able to get a version of him.
So basically.......the Springer we should have gotten first time around but it was far better for bottom lines to serve up two inferior versions (which most of us have) before going to the well again. I'm not usually on the HaSBlo SuCkZ train but this one is frigging ergregious.
While it DOES fix the tolerances that were my only issue with the Siege mould, I much prefer the Wreckers deco, not to mention I find the new accessories completely superfluous, had they kept the original accessories (or maybe swapped entirely instead of redundancy) AND KEPT THE VOYAGER PRICE I would've gone for it, but as is, unless I find it for dirt cheap I'm not gonna bother with this one, the price is insulting, look at all the huge amounts of retooling other moulds get and they don't see a price increase.
The added features might just justify the purchase for me. I love Siege springer, but the propeller kinda bugged me and the chest annoyed me a lot. Not to mention a tab on one of the legs chipped off and while it's still functional, it's even more fiddly to transform and it irks me
I bought the Siege Springer just shy from a day or two from when they revealed this one. I think I'll stick with that instead, 86 has a lot of new parts sure but at the end of the day, it's still just a reshaped and redone Siege Springer that is more expensive.
As long as the pin in the foot is nice and tight I’ll be happy. Siege springer was heartbreaking in his lameness. I just want a decent springer for my 86 sheld
I really do like Siege Springer. The only thing that bugs me is the battle damage. If there was no battle damage on Siege Springer, I would not even look at the 86 one. Oh well, I will still hold onto Siege. Afterall, Apeface, Astrotrain, ER Megatron all have battle scuffings too, so guess its OK.
It looks like a great figure overall, but it doesn’t justify the leader price since it’s nearly identical other than in color to the already existing voyager
Another case of a better figure coming out after I've gone to the trouble of upgrading and customizing the previous figure and therefore reducing my need of the new figure.
I sold my Siege Springer and I certainly like it more than the original. But I like Springer, if u really don’t care and just want a slot filled in than holding onto the old one isn’t the worst. But the 86 is a higher quality version, undoubtedly.
i am really glad i waited for SS86 springer. i was happy when the siege one came out but i was never a fan of the battle damage paint or the wreckers coloration. when SS86 became a thing i figured that eventually we'd get a springer. waiting for a SS Rodimus prime. dont get me wrong the kindom one is great, i am just holding out to see how the SS one is. also glad i waited for the SS Springer and didnt get a 3rd party one
when they revealed this figure I went out and bought the fans project Springer out of spite 😭 honestly that figure is sick but I need to fix like every joint
i just wish they increased the size of the figure, like if you upscaled Kingdom Airrazor for ROTB SS Airrazor, ya could have done the same with Springer
I’ve owned Wrecker Springer since I’ve first saw him at a GameStop and he’s saved me from souring my mood on the Wreckers line after my preorder for Bulkhead got cancelled. Mine still manages to hold up to this day so I do appreciate your opinion on this man but for now I’ll stick with my main boy.
I sold my Wrecker one once I saw this SS86... i hated the flash colors of the Wrecker one but got it cause i couldnt find the Siege one and now, ill be happy in a few weeks
Something about this one just isn’t hitting the same as siege for me. Maybe its the colors, maybe its the sculpting, maybe its the fact its $50, i dunno but im perfectly happy keeping the siege one
Personally I didn't have problems with the knees on my copy of the siege version nor with the arms coming off. But with the arms I also never pushed them: I first lined them up then closed the chest on them and was always very solid (the one time I tried to peg the arms after closing the chest I couldn't do it).
This makes me really wish I hadn’t bought Siege Springer, especially because mine has some sort of QC flaw that prevents it from correctly transforming into helicopter mode so it may be difficult to sell on the aftermarket.
I'm getting 86 Springer because I never got the Siege or Wreckers version of the mold, and this improves a lot while adding some extra things. Maybe overpriced since the original was sold as a voyager, but what can ya do?
I hope this guy shelf warms so it'll be easier to find him for a good deal. I like him, but I'm not entirely willing to soend $55 on this guy. Especially since i already have Wrecker Springer
I have Thrilling 30 Springer and Wreck n Rule Springer. SS86 Springer will look great with them. The only people that would complain are those that only like to have one version of a character
Looks good but not a day 1 purchase. Literally just bought the t30 because I really loved the wreckers saga. If the new comics continue to be good I may look to get this one eventually
Usually i prefer a smaller leader with mlre accessories as im nkt that big of a fan of huge figures, so SS Primal and SS DOTM Optimus were so far my favourite leaders. And i think i'd have the same opinion on springer if it wasn't for the fact i have the wreck n' rule one. I still think he's worth it for all the stuff he comes with, but personally i just don't like the toon accurate tooling fompared to the siege mould
I dunno what, but i think i have a perfect copy of legacy springer cause mine's leg transformation joints stay in place and i don't have any issues with him
I still think the propeller sword looks asymmetrical in copter mode and it appears that the hole on his back for copter mode isn't a straight 5mm peg hole, meaning I can't just sub in a Thrilling 30 sword. I still don't like the green rims in front and grey in the back. I also don't like that the legs aren't retooled as much as they could have been. Some detent ratcheting on the ankle joints would have been nice. That aside, I'm really wanting to get this guy because the colors are great over all, the added intakes on the car and copter mode are great and I like what they retooled for the most part.
Completely unrelated, but do you think Marvel Legends ‘97 Cyclops is worth it? If you have it could you review it? Even if you don’t, do you think it’s worth it?
I'm fighting demons on this figure cause I forced myself to stop getting repaints/retools, but my Wreckers Springer was so disappointingly terrible in its structural integrity that I would raise an eyebrow whenever anybody would bring up Siege Springer as an amazing gem of a figure. In the end I'll probably see if it goes on sale anywhere online, because I REALLY want to like this mold and Wreckers didn't give me many reasons to.
