I have 2 trips planned - safari end of April in South Africa - don’t think they have severe outbreak there and id probably be safer there than NY - then I also have a trip to israel planned in May and apparently they just closed down their borders to foreigners so will see what happens idk what I am going to do yet
That is correct. Both of my coronavirus videos have "limited monetization." It's ok though -- I think it's an important topic to discuss. Plus, the RU-vid ad money isn't anything to write home about! 😄
actually there are many simple ways to protect yourself - i know you heard it million times but you need to wash you hands often - avoid crowded places- if your country has any confirmed people with coronavirus better wear a mask... clean your phone when you come back home .
If you wash your hands a lot, they’ll become dry. It would help to have lotion on hand. Applying lotion after every hand washing would be ideal. For hand sanitizers or wipes, you can get those at Staples. Only buy if the prices are comparable to or lower than Amazon, Target, etc. Sometimes, you’ll find them on clearance at Staples. This is also a great opportunity to use the Chase Ink Cash’s 5x on office supply stores to build up UR points. Depending on how long the coronavirus situation lasts, this may be a good time to reevaluate your credit card rewards strategy. Airline miles may not be useful if you’re trying to avoid airplanes. Cash back is always a good fallback option. And it helps that you can cash out UR points if you need to.
Those are great tips! They do sell hand sanitizer at office supply stores, and they are much less likely to get as many people flooding the stores in search of the product. The lotion tip is spot on too -- my hands have definitely become drier since I am washing them more often. You're reading my mind too -- I am planning a points and miles video on how to adjust your strategy given the disturbance in travel. 😊
Still planning on taking the relatively short plane ride to SFO and connecting down to Monterey. Just being extra cautious. It is a bit nerve wracking to hear all the news. They haven't really been testing up here in Portland. Of course, no testing = no cases. BTW congratulations on the baby!
Good term, “risk equation”!!! What are some other variables in your risk equation? I’m about to cancel or change a flight ✈️ to Thailand 🇹🇭 for 03/31 on EVA. The main variable for me on my decision is the possibility of infecting my future relatives. (My trip was to marry my beautiful Thai fiancée 😔) However, I think delaying my trip is the most prudent course of action since we would need to go to the US embassy in Bangkok. Being in a crowded city 🌃 now is outside my risk tolerance. So I guess social distancing is part of my risk equation. Additionally her parents are elderly so I would place them in a higher risk group. On another topic, I feel bad for the airlines. I really like EVA Airways. I always get a great flight with them. I haven’t canceled yet but probably I will probably cancel next week. I hope they will be able to survive this.
Yeah, it's a tough time for travel. While I feel like I am healthy enough to recover from an infection (if I were to contract it), I worry about inadvertently spreading the virus to others in my life who might not be as resilient. It makes for complex and complicated decisions, especially around travel! I agree with you about the airlines too. I know a lot of folks like to bash them for all the fees, but it's an industry that has struggled for years. I can only imagine how much strain this situation has caused them. 😬
Congratulations, Ernest!! So happy for you and Fiona!! You're right, we're all in this together! We've gotten through SARS, Zika, Swine Flu, Mad Cow Disease, Ebola, Bird Flu, etc, we WILL definitely get through Covid-19. Thanks for another helpful and informative video. Hope you, Fiona, and future little stay strong and safe during these tough times.
I’m going to Florida in 1 month so just asking if coronavirus is in Florida?😅 Edit:btw I’m driving to Florida to stay safer and also because my mom dose not really trust airplanes.. I don’t really know why
I'm actually planning a trip to Hawaii too, in May. I already paid for everything and don't plan to cancel or reschedule, but I'm carrying wet wipes and sanitizer with me so I should be safe. I also don't plan to go to any big social gatherings so I think my plans should be alright. Edit: had to cancel everything. Thankfully I was able to get a refund but Hawaii’s kinda shut down right now
Im thinking of going Camping, inside my country but the thing is that i have to go by train, and its making me fear it alot. I just need 1week of fresh air out.. Any recomendation?
That's a tough one. Perhaps you can try to book a window seat if it's possible (and wear a face mask to be safe). Also, not sure if driving to the campsite is an option as well. Hope you get a chance to enjoy the outdoors during these tough times! 😊
Big fan of your videos. You mention you were able to get a refund on your miles. I used my Chase Ultimate Rewards miles to purchase a trip to Poland with SAS Airlines next month. I’ve been on hold with Chase Ultimate Rewards for several hours with no help and even disconnected by them. Do you know who I should call to postpone my flight and/or get a refund on my miles-Chase Ultimate Rewards or SAS Airlines? Thanks!
Thanks Annie. Sorry to hear about your situation. If you transferred points over to SAS, then you'll want to work directly with SAS to change your booking. If you booked via the Chase Travel Portal, you'll likely have to work it out with Chase. You might also try the Visa Concierge service (assuming that you have the Sapphire Preferred or Reserve card) to see if they can help resolve your issue too. It might not work, but if you keep getting stuck on hold, it's worth a try. 😊
I'm supposed to fly to Honolulu from Seattle for a week on Tuesday, but contemplating on postponing. However, I'm probably more at risk where I'm currently at.
Hubby and I are off to the UK from Australia next month. We’re hiring a car and going to out of the way places with no big crowds. We’re already been affected with involuntary travel changes so will now have 2 stopovers instead of 1. Yes, vigilant hygiene is important anywhere we go. We’ve also booked and paid for a trip to the US in December/January. We’re keeping an ear out for updates, so leaving accommodation reservation until later in the year. Thank you for your logical, common sense views on travel at this time.
I'm going on a road trip to southern Utah for going hiking at national parks with friends, but due to the high consumption of supplies, we couldn't buy any grocery to prepare for the trip. should we cancel the plan?
While spending time in the outdoors is a safe and recommended activity right now, you definitely don't want to go if you lack the proper supplies. Getting additional supplies near the national parks might be even more difficult too. It's a tough call, but I would only go if I had enough to make it safe and enjoyable.
Central Asia trip planned in May, and unfortunately, Uzbekistan is currently quarantining US citizens for up to 14 days. We are continuing to follow the latest updates, pessimistically, however.
That’s some great public health advice. Right as you started to say avoid touching your face I caught myself doing it. What’s worse is I knew I shouldn’t be doing it while I was doing it. 🤦🏾♂️
Thanks Masoom. It's a hard habit to break! I still struggle with it as well. And apparently, even the officials struggle with it 😄: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mA1wqjaeKj0.html
I had to cancel my trip to Israel next week 😞 they are quarantining everybody who enters the country for two weeks starting this Thursday. Delta did waive my cancellation fee so that was nice
Glad you didn't get charged a change fee. Sorry to hear about your situation though. I'm sure it must be so frustrating! Let's hope that things get better soon. 🙁
Still going to France next week. We are monitoring the situation in Japan in preparation for our trip in May. I am hoping the situation stabilizes or the main threat has passed by then.
We are suppose to travel to Europe at the end of next month. We are striving to be good global citizens. Haven’t made a decision yet if we are going. Ugh!
It's hard to say since the situation is constantly evolving. Though to be honest, I'm starting to lean toward avoiding any non-essential air travel to minimize exposure and spread. 🙁
I'm planning on taking a cruise to the South Caribbean. I don't hear much about outbreak there, but not sure if I should cancel. My teenagers are traveling with us. Cruise ship has reassured us of increased safety measures, but really ambivalent. Thoughts from anyone who has cruised recently in Caribbean?
Once again, a good, practical video with sensible advice - thanks. I take your point about postponing trips if possible, but some trips can’t be postponed. In early April we’re due to travel from Yorkshire (in the UK) to Mississippi for our daughter’s wedding, and that’s not really a trip that can easily be postponed. That said, if travel restrictions really start to bite between now and the end of this month, we’ll explore with her the possibility of postponing the celebration. But that’s not a conversion I would look forward to!
Thanks Tom! Sorry to hear about your situation. That's a trip that you definitely don't want to miss. I know it must be so frustrating. Hopefully, things will settle down soon and we can resume traveling without any worries. 🙁
@@rick15666 Indeed so, and we're currently waiting for the date (April 2) to get nearer so we can talk to the airline - we don't want to hit them with our request a couple of weeks out; there are plenty of affected people with flying dates before ours who needed to talk to them sooner than us. And it turns out that the event has had to be cancelled from the US end anyway! The town in Mississippi where it was going to be held has closed all the bars and restaurants, so that's it for the event; and a close family member of my daughter's husband has underlying health problems, so that whole branch of the family were probably not going to attend anyway. Ah well - it is what it is. We'll get to see her again one day, I'm sure. In the meantime there is Skype and Messenger.
No change for me. Travel plans and hand washing habits continue. If I come down with this flu or any other variation, oh well. Ebola, SARS, Zika fever, mad cow disease, Africanized bees, fire ants...didn't alter things for me.
Chan Lam 😂 nice!!! I like your attitude on this. I have no plans as of yet to cancel my Thailand Camb & Vietnam trip in May but.....the thoughts r in my head. Arghhh!
I flew to Austin TX from Syracuse NY with my husband who had work here. The situation has really gotten worse and his work training was cancelled. We tried to change our flights to get home sooner but the airlines (Delta) wouldn't let us change since we had already started the travel (this would be a return flight). I'm super anxious to wait another few days.
We’re preparing by stocking up on essentials. Just found out at my local Costco that there is a 2 limit case on bottled water. They even ran out of toilet paper. 😂
Costco was nuts earlier this week. I went there on Tuesday to pick-up some sanitizing wipes since I noticed we only had our travel pack, and people were lined up for water and toilet paper. Though when we went there today, it seemed much calmer. 😄
I’m traveling to Mexico next Friday for an important family event and will be staying in my 85-year-old grandmother’s house. As of right now, there is officially only 1 reported case in San Luis and nine here in Dallas. I know a lot can change in a week. What do you recommend? I will definitely be checking the news
I hate to be alarmist, but since your grandmother is considered high-risk for an infection, I would advise against traveling (or at least maintaining some social distancing from her). I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but I think it's the safest way to go to protect her. 🙁
Trip Astute help! We are traveling to Puerto Vallarta March 17 through the 20th. I’m worried about getting back home tot he states. . What do you think?
I honestly would consider postponing your trip just to be safe. The situation keeps evolving, so it's difficult to predict where the next outbreaks will occur. 😬
Trip Astute update: the event was postponed so we ended up canceling and I don’t regret it. I would never put my grandmother’s life at risk. Thank you for your quick reply. I hope you and your loved ones are safe.
Thanks for the update. I’m sorry to hear about your travels, but I’m glad to hear that you’re staying safe. Looking forward to being able to travel again ... hopefully sooner than later. 😊
this is the thing that i dont understand about people. there are several family's in my town that are going to infected areas for vacations because the airlines are slashing prices to get people to travel. why cant people get the picture, the flights are cheap because there is a higher risk you will get infected. stay put for gods sake. you're vacation isnt worth risking mine and your neighbors lives.
I think more and more people are going to be rethinking their travel as the outbreak continues to get worse. I can't believe how fast the numbers are increasing. 🙁
I honestly would consider postponing your trip just to be safe. The situation keeps evolving, so it's difficult to predict where the next outbreaks will occur. 😬
Well.. I was also planning for Thailand + Singapore + Malaysia 😂😂 with my gf and sister... 😅😅 from End of the May to beginning of the June. But after watching #tripastute i'm not to go there in next 6 months... 🤗🤗
So, I have a 7 day cruise leaving on sunday to the bahamas. My mother has some underlying health issues (diabetes in particular) and my grandmother is over the age of 80. We want to go but the fear is scary. We have sanitizers and disinfects but who knows how many other people still plan to go on the same voyage.
I honestly would consider postponing. The US State Department recently issued a warning for travelers on cruises: travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/before-you-go/travelers-with-special-considerations/cruise-ship-passengers.html
I covered it in my previous coronavirus video. Plus, masks are nearly impossible to get. I know the official advice is to avoid them as well since our healthcare workers need them and are dealing with short supplies. I just happen to have one mask since I got it during a work trip to Oakland last fall (due to all the smoke in the air).
Take care of your health..in Indonesia herbal stuffs become popular again, because many medical profesor recommend to drink herbal stuff to prevent viruses. So not only prevent from outside but also inside. Keep your body defense in good condition
It’s spring break I had a trip planed to go to Utah or Colorado for snowboarding my mom doesn’t want me to go but I don’t know if I should cancel i would be flying from Florida what do you think
It's hard to predict if it will be safe or not since the situation is constantly evolving. Though to be honest, I'm starting to lean toward avoiding non-essential air travel to minimize exposure and spread. 🙁
I have a trip to leave tomorrow to Hawaii, we are supposed to stay at Maui and Honolulu, one week each and coming from Sacramento. We are still are debating if we should go or not. Me and my husband are in our late twenties and have a 10 month old and a 7 year old. We initially planned to not go (all nonrefundable at this point). My husband is off work for a month while I am currently a stay at home mom. We are both nurses. The thing is everyone we know is still traveling so many people are going or just went to Hawaii. Part of me wants to stay it safe and we have been basically staying at home the last few weeks. But then i figure no one else is playing it safe. When my husband goes back to work we will probably get sick from all his coworkers still traveling anyways. I really dont know what to do.
London seems to have low infection numbers at the moment. That being said, it's an evolving situation, so it's hard to predict if it will be safe or not. Though to be honest, I'm starting to lean toward avoiding non-essential international trips to minimize exposure and spread. 🙁
It's really hard to tell how long it will take before things settle down. They are probably safe. However, it is a challenging time to travel. If they are able to postpone, it might be safer. 🙁
Even though LA has declared a state of emergency, there are a relatively low number of cases (compared to many other cities). That being said, the situation keeps evolving, so it's difficult to predict how things will be in a few weeks. If you are able to postpone, it might be safer. 🙁
At this point, I wouldn't risk it. It's a long flight, and I wouldn't be surprised if domestic travel starts to get restricted as well. It's definitely a challenging time to travel. If you are able to postpone, it might be safer. 🙁
@@TripAstute it's very urgent sir...I can't postpone... so pls tell me what precautions should I take...?? Should I wear face mask and gloves inside the airplane??...some people suggested me that not to wear these things.
I recommend washing your hands often and wiping down your seat and tray table with disinfecting wipes. I would wear a mask if you happen to be sick. Otherwise, I don’t think it’s necessary.
I have a trip for business purposes within Canada where I live, it’s a domestic flight but I still have to go to the airport.. is it safe or should I cancel?
It's hard to predict if it will be safe or not since the situation is constantly evolving. Though to be honest, I'm starting to lean toward avoiding non-essential air travel to minimize exposure and spread. 🙁
I recommend exercising the normal precautions to lower the risk of infection: hand washing, avoid touching your face, keeping distance from others. At this point, that's the best we can do to minimize the risk. 🙁
We have a Western Caribbean cruise booked on Princess to leave in three weeks! We are trying to decide if we should cancel or not. We just received an email from Princess saying they will give us the option to cancel and receive future cruise credit or if we go we would get $200 onboard credit. I have pretty low immunoglobulins and even though I am getting an infusion of IVIG before I go I'm not sure if I should risk it!
I honestly would consider postponing your trip just to be safe, especially if you think you might be at a higher risk. I hate to be alarmist, but I think you'll have a much better time once things settle down. 😬
J Bail do not risk it, wait until they get a handle on this virus, it’s not worth the risk to your health. I don’t understand why people are so determined to go on non essential travel right now. Vacations can wait, why not give the global health organizations a break and be one less person they have to worry about. Let them get a handle on this virus for goodness sake.
Trip Astute Absolutely! We also don’t want to travel to any hot spots just to bring the virus home with us. We are striving our best to be good global citizens. And, congrats on the new baby!!
Yikes! I can only imagine how difficult it must be in China. Though it seems like the effort has been a success in terms lowering the number of infections.
@@TripAstute we are lucky we are pretty far from Wuhan - we are in Qingdao, our city has only 60 people infected (according to official numbers.....) but anyway we have been staying at home for 2 months almost. this is really challenging, when we go out security gonna check our temperature everywhere - when you go to a shop/ when come back etc.. some cities are still under strict quarantine -like my girlfriend`s home city - people can go out 1 time per 3 days to buy food and only 1 person is allowed to go out.. sth like this) you can have a look i have a video about that
Omg, so scary the situation. I don't want to act on fear. I have a trip to new York in two weeks. I'm still going. I hope I can enjoy my time in the city.
Was to supposed to fly to Paris and Barcelona this week....it was such a hard decision but I cancelled because my parents were freaked out and made me realize the impact I could have if I was infected/asymptomatic and spread it to others. We lost money but at least next time I go, I will not be as anxious.
I'm sorry to hear that. I know it must be so frustrating. Though I think you made the right decision. I agree with you as well -- when you finally get a chance to go on your trip, you'll feel less anxious once this situation settles down. 👍
It depends on the airline, their policies, and your status level. Though a lot of airlines seem to be waiving change fees at the moment, so hopefully you won't experience any issues.
It's an evolving situation, so it's hard to predict if it will be safe or not. Though I suspect that you may have difficulty entering India at the moment if you are from Japan (due to control measures). April is still several weeks away, but it might be worth postponing your trip if possible.
It's hard to predict if it will be safe or not since the situation is constantly evolving. Though to be honest, I'm starting to lean toward avoiding non-essential air travel to minimize exposure and spread. 🙁
I live in one of the Georgia counties that's had a significant # of cases. Hartsfield airport has really upped its cleaning standards but cases are spreading here in Atlanta. Many social events have been canceled and malls are reducing their business hours & we're certainly in social distancing mode. If you're going to Atlanta or the metro area it may not be safe, but the rest of Georgia as of right now is pretty safe.
@@Really.Rissa23 As of now, Savannah & the Golden Isles are safe as long as you practice regular precautions. It is an evolving situation but I think Savannah should be alright. Atlanta & its suburbs are crazy right now though.
Will's Vlogs!! I could imagine, both me and the person I’m traveling with are in the healthcare field! We are both very aware on keeping up on good hygiene and practicing standard precautions! I’m going to keep updates on how things will be looking. I don’t travel till mid/end of April
young are carier of the diseas also, old can have sickness by the younger children as school is close, wonder, travel by car how , wish give some info, ?
That is incorrect. It's hard to predict if it will be safe or not since the situation is constantly evolving. I'm leaning toward avoiding non-essential air travel to minimize exposure and spread. 🙁
I don't get it. You work in healthcare, but you didn't know how to wash your hands?? Which part is made up here? I can't avoid the posters if I tried at hospitals. I kind of thought it was weird when you said it, but then I thought...okay, not everyone is educated in washing hands...but if you work in healthcare, I don't see how this can be possible.
Sorry that you think that I'm making things up. I'm not in a clinical environment, so I don't interact directly with patients. I work in an operations center, so I work to coordinate cases and understand how manage hospital capacity within a network. I've worked in consulting and operations all my life but within different industries. I just happen to be working in healthcare now. Does that make sense?
Also travelling is an amazing experience but there have to be shift in mindset when it comes to travelling for the envoirment aswell. Maybe try to take the train more often. Although its easy for me to say as a european. Us needs to build abetter train connection, maybe not coast to coast but if you have good fast trains on the eastcoast and west coast maybe people will stop flying between lets say la and sanfran or ny and buffalo or philly etc.
