I run an XMacro because the last 4 shadow systems I’ve had wasn’t reliable. After so many failures, you lose faith. I’m very particular about cleaning and oiling so it’s the gun. Buyer beware. At this point nothing could change my mind
I understand where you are coming from brother. I love the feel and look of the FN 509 tactical both compact and subcompact. I can’t get through a full mag without hitting the mag release. Sucks! But, I have the mr920L, Dr920 and the mr920 and I’ve not had any problems with them. I’ve also had to replace two out of the three just because of a trade. Gun guy problems, right! But, these have been awesome for me. You go with what works for you and your preference 🤙🏽…

My shadow systems have been unreliable as well. Ive had 3 mr920s and had consistent failures with them all even after the break in period. I was running 115 grain ammo with glock mags. I wanted them to work. I loved the grip and the frame and they all shot really flat but I couldn't trust them.
Here is my prediction. 2025 Shot Show the CR920XP will be released. People will ask if the barrel and comp will be available for customers that already have the CR920X. Shadow Systems response will be, "We are backed up from existing orders, so we are unable to offer the barrel and comp as a separate purchase at this time."
The CR920XP will be out much sooner than next year. I already saw a firearms website with a picture and a waiting list and they have the current CR920X for sale on the same website. I am guessing a couple months.
I don’t get it… someone please explain to me why people get so excited for a “more concealable” pistol but then want a longer grip and then a compensator that takes the gun right back to the size that you were trying to get away from in the first place. Makes no sense. 🤔
I was told about this maybe two weeks ago by my local gun shop. Glad that it performed so well. Now I can give up thinking I need a 43x and get this instead. Great review, as always!
Saw one at the Shadow Systems Booth at the NRA Annual Meeting in Dallas today. It’s a solid gun. Not going to replace my CR920 with 13 round mags. However my understanding is that if you already have a CR920, they’ll have a “fix” so you can use the new 15 round mags comfortably.😎✌️
That’s great to know! I don’t want to be a gun collector. Just buy the tools I need. Not the new goodness this year. My CR920 is very comfortable to carry and I choose the comfort over the extra rounds. I had the MR920 and I just couldn’t keep carrying it. It was uncomfortable and I knew I was carrying 24/7. I’d end up leaving it at home. Which is not good. The CR920 comes with me 95% of the time.
@@trumpurace1635 my understanding is they will be coming out with polymer mag sleeves you can put on CR920X mags, and use them in a CR920, without having a gap so to speak. 😎✌️
I’m interested to know from your experience. I’m 5’11 227ish when I was carrying the MR920. I had a bit of a gut nothing major but I was definitely not flat stomached. It was very uncomfortable due to feeling so big! I stopped carrying it and it turned into my range gun. I now use the CR920 that is so much more comfortable to me that I do carry now almost daily. I’ve lost weight but still haven’t looked to see how the MR920 feels, mainly because my holsters are for a TLR8. I want to know how you do it! I have a shorter torso; is that why? Have you been carrying for 15 years while the MR920 was my first. I need to know! I’d like to carry the MR920 id feel more confident if something went down. (It now has a X300 on it which doesn’t help the size) humor me. Thank you!
Still prefer the CR920 with the 13 round extended mag. Still can get a full grip but I can run the flush fit 10 round mag for better concealment if I need to.
Shadow systems. 😎🤘🇺🇸 ROCKING THE HOUSE 🇺🇸🤘😎. Yes, sir. I always shoot paper targets. My choice is splatter burst three silhouette 18 by 24 target. Love these targets
Awesome video! Very exciting pistol, how would you say it compares to the Sig XMacro? I know capacity is different but very similar in size. Thank you and keep up the amazing production work!
The Macro is considerably larger and depending on the model, it’s comped. Having shot the comped model it shoots softer and flatter but the non comped model doesn’t shoot any better. The trigger on this is much better
I'm not unhappy with the original CR 920, I prefer the 13-round magazine. I'm wondering if this 15 round magazine will work with the original CR 920, maybe with a sleeve of some sort. I'm guessing the upper is the same. Or maybe they'll sell just the lower? Anyway, thanks for sharing - another great video. BTW, I ended picking up the Beretta A300 Ultima in Grey for 949 bills. What an AWESOME Shotgun! 😊
Great job on making the video on an awesome firearm!!! I hope to one day get a Shadow Systems firearm. I hope one day they make a Glock 48 MOS like firearm from Shadow Systems. Please keep the great videos coming!!!
I walked into a local gun shop to check out the MR920 elite I’ve been considering and then the guy pulls out a CR920X to my surprise! I’m not sure I want a subcompact still but I definitely loved how it felt in my hand. I can’t say I’m not tempted to get the CR920X!
@@MrKent84 TBH I was super hyped to grab it at the shop for the price and everything, it’s my 2-3rd compact pistol, never been much of fan because of the size, but like other shadows systems it does feel great in your hand, idk dawg, I shot maybe 100 rounds through it and it just kept having cycling issues or would jam up, and I even switch ammo brands, same issue, it might be a sub compact thing tho, anytime I went for a quick mag dump 3-4 shots in, the pistol would either jam or not cycle, and I cleaned and lubed it before taking it to the range, just fyi, also sorry for wall of text I hope my experience helps, if not it’s cool thanks for asking
@@carlosfeliciano9652 I appreciate your input. I definitely don’t want to spend the money on something that I may have issues with as this will be my EDC. I need reliable. The MR920 was my first choice so I may just go ahead and spend the extra for it.
I’m look forward in seeing reviews of CR920XP. That’s what I’m looking at getting. I’m happy Shadow Systems came out with 15 round magazines for that pistol. Hopefully in the future they will ship out 3 magazines with the pistols.
Compared to the Glock 43x and Glock 48…. Does the CR920X shoots better and better recoil management? Would you say that the CR920XP will shoot better once it come out?
@phillipraney6327 if that xp shoots better than the P there definitely isn’t a gun on the market in that size from the factory that shoots that well. The X is great!
Curious to hear your experiences. I’ve had mine now over two weeks and now about 800 rounds through it. After the usual stove pipes up to 100 or so it was running fine. But then I started getting jams on racking magazine where it hit the feed ramp. Went to the range it wouldn’t extract the casing, riding on top of a bullet not loading underneath. I shot some more and then it worked itself out for the next 150 rounds. But unfortunately, I’m getting what other people have mentioned about the CRX and now the CRXP. Premature slide lock. Seems to happen on quick multiple shots and or transitioning to multiple targets. I think I agree with some others who mentioned when you take off the slide the slide lock lever is very loose. Think that is getting in the way and popping up when firing rapidly. Somebody mentioned how to fix that but I’m not gonna post that here to not give bad advice, but it does make sense. Instead, I will send it back to SS and see what happens. Too bad as I really love this firearm. In many ways it’s the perfect EDC for those hot summer days. But I don’t trust carrying it at the moment unless this is resolved.
I had the same issue on my CR920X, but SS sent me another slide release/stop in the mail and it stopped my issue of every of round locking back. Plus look for the spring being in the right position and under the locking block in the notch on the left side.
@@phillipraney6327 It doesn't happen for me often. But mostly when doing COF's, shooting on the move or multiple shots/bill drills. Probably vibrating upwards as it is so loose. Will check the position as you mentioned. But Shadow may just want me to send it in.
I like my CR920, but just like the issue you were having, the slide locks back on me mid magazine way too frequently. My 43X does not do this ever. I will never carry my CR920 for this reason.
I like the idea of ss making the 15rd steel mag. I still think the 920p is the fit for most. If you carry the 15 on the side. I’m sure they will make a mag sleeve for the 920/920p so you can carry the 10/11/13+1 for the small grip length. Just my opinion. Or just buy both! Haha 😂
Received my CR920XP and shot 150 through it last night after zeroing. After the first box or two of stovepipes, which are expected tight tolerance break in and the fact my Speer 124gr tmj are underpowered/under pressured, no issues after that. 147 grain Speer worked perfect during break in along with carry EDC carry of HST 147 and Underwood 124. Very happy with felt recoil, tight groupings, how it feels in my hand and concealability with the holster I had my local guy make for me. A little tricky with full dust cover as standard Glock 48 MOS mold doesn’t work but he is modifying to make a new holster while in meantime he used heat gun to provide me a temporary. Looking forward to your review hopefully soon!
I’m waiting for the CR920XP, definitely definitely grabbing that one! They put the full dust cover on too, unbeatable, SS just took over the micro CC world.
Yea man I just bought the CR920P like 2 months ago 🤦🏼♂️ lol figures. Now I have to buy ANOTHER gun. Surely they won’t sell the frame. Hopefully there will be a mag sleeve that will fit their 15 round mags so I can avoid buying a whole new gun 😂
@@Jeff-uw7sx sell that bad boy & upgrade man! It’s just a tool don’t be too attached 😂I get the “never sell only buy” but cmon 🤷🏾♂️it’s a tool at the end of the day
@@Lot-O-Guns lol yea I could but I’ll probably just end up buying the XP when it comes out. Again unless they or someone comes out with a mag sleeve that will fix the 15 round mags for mine. I’d be happy with that.
I think this pistol will be a game changer. The 10-round mags of the 43x are just absurd, and the Shield mags/mag release work well "most of the time. The PSA is ok, but just not on the same level. Until now, the only EDC to check all the boxes right out of the box was a Hellcat Pro. I expect the CR920X to be a major contender.
Enjoyed your review. My edc for years has been the G43X, and I love that gun. I have 2 other Shadow Systems guns, including the CR920. Really better than Glocks, imo. I am definitely going to get this new CR920X. Thanks
This is exactly what I've been waiting for, only the "p" version with the comp. I ALMOST want it bad enough to buy the CR920P and the CR920X and merge them. Unfortunately I'll have to wait on the comp. Still xmacro for a while.
Actually about to buy my very first pistol. Which will be for home defense. Then once I get proficient and have good training I'll worry about getting a carry pistol. I was considering other options but this jumped to the top of my list, mainly the foundation series because the grip and texture of the Shadow System's Mr920 I held recently won me over. Probably my favorite grip texture of any gun.
It looks more ergonomic than the 43x , with the deeper tail . Four years ago I started with My 43x and shield arms mag's, maybe I got lucky but I've not had a single problem with S-15's, not one . Well over a couple thousand rounds however I learned in a training class that I had trouble getting My finger in the trigger well fast enough so I moved up to the 19 gen.5 with EPS it does fit My hand much better . In hind sight , I'd say make sure your finger fits into the trigger guard easily after you're on target . Just going to the range and shooting you might notice that. Your finger only goes into the trigger guard at the end of your press out of the presentation, without training that specifically, you might not notice that just going to the range. Remember, we train for split second delivery and accuracy of that lead, every Millisecond count's. The length of pull from the rear, (web of the thumb), to the mid pad of the index finger needs to fit perfectly for proper trigger finger alignment. Hope this can help someone ❤
Is the grip length on the 920X the same length as the 920 with the 13 round magazine? Obviously it won't be at the back of the grip but is over all length the same?
Tell me why I should go cr920-920x and mr920-xr920 combo over an sig p365xl and xmaxro. They use the same magazines and are cheaper. If the cr920 and mr920 etc used the same mags I feel like it would be the perfect complimentary set.
Although the Macro and XL use the same mag design, the CR is a different design than the MR like G43 vs G19. One is a micro compact vs a compact pistol, two different classes of pistols. As for why, it’s all personal preference and what feels or works best for you.
"Shooter error" on the slide lock prematurely locking back mid firing string? That's a new one for me... I've shot almost all of the micros and none do that. The CR920, however, does. If you compare the CR920 slide lock lever vs a 43x you'll notice the tension on the CR920 is significantly less tight. They need to redesign it or create one with more tension to stop this from happening.
Any concerns on going with the foundation model? I don’t care about the slide mods. Imagine for EDC the lack of fluted barrel is not a bid deal weight wise, and hear the polymer trigger performs similarly. Thanks, have seen your foundation video from last year.
The foundation series is the hidden gem. All of them shoot exactly the same and cost significantly less. You just get night sights and nicer slide cuts with the elite. To say that stuff is worth it, especially if you are putting a dot on the gun, the elite series are not.
Since you have shadow systems ear, are they going to address the slide stop on the cr920. War poet, honest outlaw and you are all having malfunctions because of the slide stop.
I don’t find it an issue. The two times it occurred were grip related. That’s why it’s occurring. I never did it in the smaller CR920. It I have done it on a 365 and on a hellcat after I spend a lot of time shooting larger guns. That grip surface is less, thumb/palm area rides up and causes it. After it happened those two times, I haven’t done it since. The X is my carry gun now and I have approximately 700 rounds through it.
Yes there is. The CR920X Foundation series is the same. Then the elite series after a few months shed a hundred bucks or so. SS stuff never sell at MSRP and if you buy them at exact MSRP, the dealer isn’t doing you any favors. The foundation series is the exact same with the exception of the sights and slide serrations. With those, even downgraded from the elite are still way better than Glock ones.
@@HuntFishShootChannel I just found out they are proprietary, the shield arms and g43x/48 mags are too thick and don’t lock into the mag release. With the price of the ss mags it isn’t that big of a deal like you stated I guess. Just kinda sucks for some of us who have a ton of those mags already
Im waiting for the cr920xp with a comp. Eps carry and tlr7 sub this is the go to for me. Ever since i got my first SS pistol they replaced glock for me. This guns exactly what ive been looking for.
Do you have any concerns with polymer mag release interacting with the steel mags? I always thought steel and polymer didn't interact well, hence Shield Arms recommending Steel Mag Catch with their mags.
It seems polymer to me and no I can’t say that I do. In particular because the amount of use it will get vs a competition pistol and reloads is drastically different. that’s a good point to bring up tho!
I have a CR920 absolutely love it and also have a 43x I love it because of the shield arms mags. Shadow Systems has hit it out of the park yet again!❤❤
Appreciate the review…how comfortable is it to carry compared to the CR920? That may be my biggest consideration in whether to make the switch. Thanks in advance!
Between sig X macro and this which one are you picking? Ive got an x macro with the compensated slide cuts but my gun ADD is going crazy with this one.
Well….how about this let’s wait for The CR920XP to come out 😘 Otherwise the macro with the comp is a great pistol and I recommend them to people regularly when they don’t like how a micro gun feels but don’t wanna carry something like a 19.
@@HuntFishShootChannel yeah it's an apples to oranges comparison until the cr920xp comes out. I trust you'll be doing God's work and providing us a comparison video... 🙏
Based on your review, I perceived you’d likely to opt for the 920X over the standard 920, is that correct? You’re comments suggested it since you are carrying the MR year round again. Just got a new standard one and learned I need to train with it more to control it in line with what I am used to with my MR. I also got the mag pinch that you did in one of your videos with the short grip. Yet, another thing to train for. I would imagine the X is more controllable out of the gate. Greatly appreciate all your videos…top shelve!
Very much so. The X is way easier and more comfortable to shoot. Although not like the MR, it handles significantly better than the smaller frame model. Reloads are easy too. After 500 rounds and no malfunctions and a good feel for the gun (not much different than other SS pistols) I am now carrying this! Vortex Defender CCW and Streamlight TLR7 Sub!
@@HuntFishShootChannel that’s great to hear. Will look forward to adding the X to the collection. Thinking it may be a better one for my wife to carry also. Thanks for the reply, appreciate it!
For concealability the P is more concealable, it’s also flatter shooting but the grip difference is not as comfortable. My recommendation, wait about 1 months until the XP comes out
Also want to say thank you for always answering my questions. There has not been one time you have not answered my question. This makes me proud to be a sub to your channel. Thank you for all the work you put into your content for us.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Quite realistic & honest. Thank you! I carry Shadows on & off-duty, I LOVE THEM! Shadow fixed everything I've loathed about "Blocks", yet maintained everything I respect about Glock. My Glocks & (too darn many of) my other pistols are now just dust collectors in my safe. I also have a CR920P (War Poet) as most recent Shadow purchase. It's now my summer EDC (MR920 for winter). I too would like the X frame for my P upper some day...or at least the mag "fix" someone mentioned for spare mags. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! Would love to train together some time.
That’s awesome!! Thank you and appreciate the support! They have another pistol in the works which has been leaked but based off how this shoots and the add a comp to It and it’s going to be the best shooting pistol most concealable pistol available from the factory. I take training very seriously and am always up for it! Where are you located?
@@HuntFishShootChannel West Central PA (near State College). I try to get to at least two instructor level trainings a year but usually get to an 'end user" course or two as well. Always up for it & only have one scheduled thus far this year (early June).
@@HuntFishShootChannel got three. They all work with fmjs. But with hollow points two of them have trouble. Even chambering the first round will cause a ftf. The nose will hit the feed ramp and get stuck.
Nice review. While I am not a "Glock type" fan, the MR & DR to me are far superior. The trigger on the CR does not seem as good as the MR & DR for some reason. I just put the SS comp on my DR and am curious to see how it shoots. A comp version of the CR should be an interesting combo.
