Should You Watch 'Blood of Zeus' on Netflix? 

I was mostly disappointed that Apollo and Artemis weren’t archers and only threw power balls. I mean come on

Ik they said it was “a tale that was never told” but honestly I really dislike how much they pull away from actual mythology. Why is Cerberus anywhere BUT the underworld? He literally never leaves. Why is he villainous? He’s Hades’ pet.

I absolutely loved the designs of the gods, especially Artemis and Dionysus. Artemis had the phases of the moon as her belt (or whatever the garment was) and her skin tone made her look like a badass waterbender from ATLA. Dionysus had the trademark anime "blushing" effect that typically indicates a character is drunk, not to mention that he even utilizes his wine as a weapon in battle.That was a nice touch.

Why is no one talking about the garbage animation? There are literally scenes that feel like a slideshow. It’s such a downgrade from Castlevannia

It's funny you say that about the human characters. Which I agree with. But my main complaint was how most of the gods didn't have character either. Besides maybe Zeus and Hera. That leave nobody else in this series with real character 😂 The gods besides a handful don't do more than grunge and nod disapprovingly in the background. And if you somehow knew nothing about Greek mythology coming in there really wouldn't be nothing to the ones presented.

Wish it had a season 2

The animation and art was really nice but the writing fell flat for me sometimes. One thing that really bugged me was the weird continuity seen during the "war between the gods and the titans/ giants scene. A lot of the gods shown in the fight weren't born yet. Then there was the "cyclops" and the "hundred handed ones." They weren't "giants" in the old stories they were the siblings of the titans. I know they wrote those characters in that manner for the sake of time but it still bugs me.

I love the show as a major fan of Mythology definitely Greek mythology I think this was one of the best representation of classical Greek myths they have done in a long time I'm hoping they bring out action figures like they did for Castlevania and of course a new season..

I was taught some Greek mythology back in secondary school but was never the biggest fan. I recently watched Blood of Zeus with somebody who's really passionate about the mythology side of things and we both loved it. It was actually really fun to occasionally pause the episodes and let the person explain to me the story behind every god and demigod. But I would've still had a great time with the show without it. The animation is really well done. It's not Castlevania level just yet but definitely has the growth potential.

Honestly if they dropped the Heron and friends plot line and just made it drama about the gods I'd have been way more into it. Or if they dropped the gods and made it a solely a human drama about existing in a world controlled by gods I would have enjoyed it. But they split the difference and it fell mostly flat for me. If they get a second season, they definitely should pick a lane and stay in it.

looks amazing and the god interacting and fighting was really fun and interesting since they had actual relationships to play on and between but the human side of things always felt rushed. the characters where close together and split apart and put back together over the span of three episodes. the fact that human protagonist and the antagonist are brothers honestly never seems to mater.

I honestly and personally kinda thought that its animation was a bit janky its was ok in some areas but through out watching everything it was hard not to notice how kind wrong the animation looked to, I would watch season 2 if they did make another season to see if they actually make the characters a lil bit more interesting rather than them kinda just be like a basic cardboard cut out

I had to stop watching after it became so predictable. He’s the chosen one. He’s the son of Zeus. Cool anime sword. Long lost evil brother. Mom died. Overpowered Daddy issues. Seen it a million times.

I had the reminder set up on Netflix for when it dropped and it didn't disappoint. I agree with everything you said. Particularly I liked how the Gods specifically Zeus was portrayed as the way they're supposed to be. Liked this design of Zeus as well.

This is the first iteration I’ve seen of Zeus that isn’t as bold nor as strong as the others, a lot of other versions of him would’ve FRIED⚡️the other gods once they stepped to him without giving it a second thought.

I hate it going so off course from actual Greek mythology. Like Zeus trying to be a good father, Cerberus being a grunt for the demons?!, gods being so easy to injure and just die (what the hell?!?!) and much more just why?. It's average just barely

I'm seeing a lot of people completely misunderstand the details of this show, so here's some facts about it: 1) Hades isn't the villain, or evil. The creators explicitly stated it on the official Blood of Zeus twitter. His bident was taken without his permission or knowledge and he's seen punishing the villain at the end. Scary =/= evil. 2) The three headed dog was also obviously not Cerberus, but a mutated "demon" dog.

I liked the art of the show, quite unique compared to other mangas however i think the story is quite messy? Idk but there is something putting me off especially the fight scenes they are only flashy and over the top.

Where was Aphrodite? And Artemis? And Demeter? Dionysus? I honestly couldn’t tell who anyone was or if they were even in the show because barely any of the gods got any meaningful screen time besides Zeus, Hera, and Hermes surprisingly. The show was good. Not great, but good. I do wish that the gods were more involved and had more interactions with the humans. Also, hopefully Zeus isn’t permanently... You know.

It was an overall enjoyable show but there were a lot of bad decisions imho. In some places there was far too much exposition and in others things just popped up from nowhere. I agree that the main mortal characters were pretty bland - the Chosen One, the Strong and Independent Amazon, the Big Black Boi and the "Han Solo". My biggest gripe was with the Bident of Hades - from the first to the last episode the Antagonist swings it left and right, even at the gods and NONE of them recognized a legendary weapon from the Underworld? REALLY? Also - calling your main character Heron and then introducing the centaur Chiron just adds unnecessary confusion. That boy is the protagonist FFS.

The show has great potential. I personally found the pacing a bit fast, not much dialogue and characters are quite shallow. Despite this, the show was very enjoyable and very action packed with some decent surprises and is a good gateway piece of media for anyone looking to get into Greek mythology. Season 1 was spent on setting the stage and for its final couple of episodes it was spent a bit on emotion but not enough, hopefully season 2 bring much needed character development and a much better paced story. 6/10 for Season 1 or a pretty good.

I certainly thought the show was entertaining, but also underwhelming. I just found it played too safe, relying on tropes from the hero’s journey and classic Greek mythology to carry the story. It definitely has potential to be great; I wouldn’t mind a season 2 to expand on the characters and the story.

I loved the animation but the story just needed better pacing. The first three episodes imo had good pacing but from there everything seemed rushed especially the last two episodes. The Battle at Olympus could've definitely spanned through two episodes with better dialogue and direction of what the characters were doing.

Im going to be honest with y'all. I grew up with classic Teen Titans which was mature for me when I was a child and I loved it due to its actual serious theme it follows. Teen Titans Go however is something different which is clever and quirky with humor that's actually good as its own thing. It really does NOT compare to the original but like Otaku said, I could shut my mind and just laugh. His conversation and intro at the end really made me think about this.

personally i think the show is really good, but i have issues with the way they adapted the gods. i didn't really like how they tried to portray zeus, who's a r*pist and a cheater, as a struggling savior. and i don't like how they portrayed hera either, i do think that her murdering zeus's mistresses and demigod children is screwed up because most of the time they didn't even know it was zeus this whole time, but making hera simply portrayed as "the crazy jealous evil wife" is cliche and absolutely inaccurate to hera in the actual myths. i do have a feeling they're going to make hades the villain for the next season if there's gonna be one, which is something i hope won't happen because hades has always been the villain when in reality, hades in the myths was pretty neutral and most of the time never involved in god drama. the only times i could think of when he was being problematic was when he kidnapped persephone. i also don't like how they made heron being the son of zeus such a big thing (though i can understand why it's a bit needed), like zeus has a lot of demigod children why is heron any different?? but taking away from that, i do love the art and the fight scenes are amazing, i hope blood of zeus does get a new season and we get to explore alexia because she's actually an interesting character.

It's pretty heavy on the direct Star Wars references for some reason. Heron was critical because Zeus was trying to build humanity towards self-sufficiency, and believed a champion was necessary to that goal. Then things began to escalate out of his control, and he had to commit to it, even though it was no longer optimal.

I have come here to specificity point out the writing. It's lazy and Plagiarized! They took lines from the 1999 historical epic The 13th Warrior. One of my favorite films, while it may not be popular I still think it's a great film. writers of blood of Zeus took some choice lines, word for word and put them in their narrative. "how deep in the earth are we?" "Deep enough to fall out the bottom. " This may be lost most people who hasn't seen the film. Anyway it aggravates me and I had to share that information. Aside from that they had an entire pantheon to work with and we only saw any real development/interaction with a few god's when they clearly showed several deity's that could have complimented and advanced the story arc. They did not even introduce them, just intense looking background characters. Plus they had cheap Easter eggs, mostly to the OG clash of the Titan and Assassins creed Odyssey. The plot seemed to be incoherent and back and forth. I won't even go into the dumb down choices of the Gods, Herea and Poseidon to name a few. The voice acting and animation was nice, very castalvania which isn't a bad thing. It was a nice watch but could have been better. The music and chores was fantastic though.

I know the music isn’t ground breaking but I rlly do enjoy it and one of the only times I didn’t skip the intro because it was short and I like seeing the different animations of it

It's most definitely not trash, but I would not call it good. They artists are great, I enjoyed the designs,but they are not storytellers and it shows.

I love the credits for the mandalorian as they show concept art for the episodes

I don’t understand why this was rated so highly. The show has almost nothing to bring to the table. The story is not new, the animation quality is extremely varying, from very high quality to mere still images. Sound design was awful, with sounds mostly missing, music was often looped and inappropriate to when it was played, all characters are bland and mere tropes, heron is as boring as possible. I really disliked this show. The character design is very stereotypical western but still very good. But the animation quality, that was just abysmal.

The animation is straight trash on this anime. I tried watching the first episode than saw this mans arm teleport from one frame to the next.... this bothers me. If you can take trash animation where they skip out on the quality, it’s probably an enjoyable show.

I'm conflicted about the show. There's potential, but it wasn't utilized too greatly. For the art design, probably one of if not the best depiction of the greek gods pantheon! Every god was uniquely designed, had noticeable characteristics and mainly (with a few exceptions) stayed true to the myths. For every group shot I paused the screen just to see if there was someone new, and could I identify them all. Mostly yes, which is a testament to how well designed they are. The monsters were also well designed, even though I wasn't sure I liked all the choices they made for they're depiction, for example Seraphims Chimera mount not having a snake head in it's tail and fusing the goat head and the lion head together. And they added wings to it. But hey, sometimes design has to follow what the story needs, so I'll give this one a pass. Animation was mostly good, but not at the same level as Castlevania, which is from the same studio. Some roughness here and there and at some battle scenes I was a bit disappointed with the fluidity of it all. The weird part is that sometimes it had excellent animation on one shot, and then not so good on the next shot, which at times disturbed me little. Luckily there were not that much of those moments. Still, animation as a whole is perfectly fine and maybe only bothers those who even care about the little stuff. Writing was... a disappointment. Maybe I had too high of an expectation because of Castlevania, but the overall story didn't really bring anything new to the table. I won't spoil the plot of the season, but there's hardly anything suprising there. Some of the characters were written quite well and I found myself liking Zeus because he was portrayed as a flawed personality, which is true to the myths. Sadly the mortals were a huge letdown, and I didn't connect with them at all. Heron just reacted to everything with no real inner motivations shown. Alexia was just a warrior, period. And I didn't even care about the two others, they seemed to try to give them some character arc, but with so little screen time and development I just didn't bother. Seraphim had the most potential and lots of development, but that suffered greatly because... Pacing. Oh my how this was paced so... weirdly. The first four episodes were quite ok with it and lots and lots of flashbacks and backstory given. Everything happens over a couple of days and all's good. But what the damn happens at the later half? They copy the Game of Thrones teleportation of just everybody randomly and without explanation being in the right places. I wasn't sure was the second half supposed to be taking a couple of days, weeks, months? In the seventh episode this is the worst, with Seraphim basically being everywhere and going everywhere instantly. The pacing and writing also damages the ending. The battle is great and all, but boy I did not give a f*** when they tried to be emotional and epic. I can only name one character payoff I actually felt, and the rest was nothing. Shame, because there was a lot of possibilities in there. I'm not sure was is bad directing or just a culmination of different problems, but I wanted more. On that note, the music, which was actually quite good, was used sooo badly in some cases. Not every moment of the story needs to sound more epic as the next, let there be time to give the moments breathe and really earn those epic majestic choirs and horns! This can be also tied to the pacing problem, but I would need to think about more. Sound design was also one of the highlights, everytime Seraphims javelin(?) flied and made that sound... I felt it flying. And some of the monsters, excellent! Top notch there! For acting, I actually didn't really think about it that much. But I think that is a good thing, since I got so immersed in the world and believed everybody's delivery. Or maybe I was concentrating too much on the design and not the voices? Who knows, I still count it as a positive. Overall, if they do a second season, I recommend they use the excellent world building and character design and try to maybe make a smaller story where the characters get time to develop? Just a suggestion. 6/10 with the potential to be greater. Will watch a second season if it comes, but I won't lose my sleep if we don't get one. Would I recommend this? Only for those who have already seen Castlevania, as newcomers should definitely watch that one first it being the better show... for now ;)

It’s a flawed show, but I enjoyed it a lot. I’m glad we’ve been getting a couple of good action shows like this. Young Justice (and basically almost anything by DC), Castlevania, Seis Manos, and now this. I hope we get a lot more in the future. Blood of Zeus has potential.

This show was stunning and I have to agree with you about some of the main characters being bland. It's obviously a setup season but my biggest issue is how they demonized Hera. I understand that the woman did some terrible things to the offspring of Zeus but they could have developed her past vengeful evil woman.

Just finished the series real quick hot takes from me: Pros; the overall art direction, designs, and backgrounds for the show are absolutely gorgeous Seraphim and Zeus are interesting characters The show seems to be made in the vain of the classic clash of the titans movie A clear love and reverence for the original myths The final battle is incredibly grandiose and spectacular to watch Cons: actual animation ranges from ok to uninspired and rigid for a good portion on the show The blaring Oprah chanting happens so much it takes me out of the moment at times The pacing is incredibly, frustratingly slow and really highlights some really noticeable animation shortcuts Too many panning shots of characters doing nothing Plot is relatively simple and not as complex as it thinks it is Most characters even the main ones aren’t fleshed out alltoo well Too many flashbacks Flashbacks and expositions are incredibly long and destroys the pacing Said flashbacks and expositions that take entire episodes to go through can honestly be summed up or explained in 5 minutes at most There’s a not too subtle air of pretentiousness when it comes to the series

"A tale never told", yeah sure. It is basically Herkules but with some additions. Zeus surprising Heroens mother in the form of her own husband? Check. Twins but with different fathers? Check. Hera wanting to make Zeus sons life as miserable as possible? Check. It still is an enjoyable story tho.

This series is gorgeous, and it does a great job of realistically portraying the conflicting personalities of Greek gods. Would love to see more of how they interact with humans instead of the gods interacting amongst themselves

The thing that just absolutely bugged me the most is that Heron never got any special powers or abilities, other than the fact he was the “chosen one” everything he did was boring and out of hatred

I like how the plot is very relevant to Greek mythology I’m talking about Zeus cheating on Hera repeatedly.

The art is good, but the animation is just ok, the plot is idiotic and the direction LOVES using flashbacks. And yes, the characters... only Zeus is enjoyable, for the others, 3 words: DEATH. ISN'T. DEPTH. The show will go out of its way to kill any non-named character and a good chunk of the named ones for 0 weight beyond the shock value.

Dude, its greek star wars, it all makes so much sense man (keep in mind: spoilers) heron = luke skywalker (mc farmboy with magical heritage) Zeus = Obi-wan Kenobi (wise guide who disguises as an old man, also dies) seraphim = Darth Vader (a more complex villain who isn't the big bad but gets most of the screentime, also related to maincharachter) hera = the emperor (big bad with a lot of power) alexia = Leia (girl who is involved with the conflict before mc, and a partial reason for mc to join the conflict) Evios = Han solo (cocky smuggler who reluctantly abandons his life of crime to aid the heroes) Kofl = Chewbacca (partner who doesn't speak much and convinces his partner to help heroes, mostly muscle but has emotional inteligence) Chiron = Lando (character who we first think is cool, then betrays good guys, then is cool again) Fates (+zeus) = Yoda (source of wisdom) Hermes could be r2d2 and c3po as in messengers but that connection is weak demons = death star (big threat at the beginning, not threatening at all once heroes have dealt with it) giants = death star 2 (old threat but just bigger) zeus' sword = lightsaber (blue light, can cut through anything) heron abandons his training to save his friends (i even think he quotes luke skywalker), he gets offered to join the villains by seraphim, ... I do love blood of zeus and prefer to watch it over star wars but the stories are so similar it makes me rofl

Certainly the show isn't perfect, but it's a great watch. I generally feel like the Greek Mythology offers so much materiel for great series/movies

I like the animation style the overall package is good its just that the whole season story could've been told within 3-4 episode and they could've also made more side drama and story even within the main storyline

Tbh I agree to what you said, it's the main character (heron) can be easily overlooked due to the God's being there and just using them as their pawn, nothing really hooked me to really feel the character, I was really hoping that the "training with Zeus" might show us or at least teased us with a little bit of his potiential, character developement and ability "superpower" wise. Seraphim was a good Antagonist, I felt his anger and confusion, cause that's the most common thing amongst us humans to, but mostly the confusion part, and I sympathize with the guy, cause of his story, great backstory btw. Lastly, the team of Heron "the team mortal-tbh-can-have-potential-for-the-next-season-if-ever-there-is" shows a lot of potenial, Alexia can become Heron's lover or etc. the other two guys can be kings of a place somewhere, all I'm saying, there are soooo many potential, it's just sad that we don't get to see it..... if I'm going to rate this 8/10. Definitely a must watch.

After initially watching the series and enjoying everything in the moment, I rated it an 8/10. I enjoyed the characters at face value and the story as things were happening, but I did feel as though everything was rushed. However, after further thinking, I now rate it at a 6-6.5/10. The story was okay and had more potential to grow if it had more episodes to work with, but what we do have is a solid base for a second season to show more development and work towards a better over-arching plot line(hopefully with 15+ episodes). The gods were really good and I enjoyed the portrayal of Poseidon specifically, however I think the Zeus/Hera dynamic was plain and made Zeus out to be way more of a “good guy” than he was. The other characters have SO MUCH potential. Heron can be so amazing, as well as learning more about Alexia(the setup with her parents was really good). In the end, I still really enjoyed the show and I’m really hopeful for it to get better.

It had such promise...but i feel like it was rushed and tried to cram an entire plethora of stories into just 8 episodes. I really do hope that if there is a season 2 that they take it a bit slower than season 1 and develop a more enticing storyline thats not too long to bore the viewers, not too short that it disappoints fans, but hits that sweet spot where it keeps fans wanting more at the end of a season.

I mean if you have Netflix, sure watch it, I mean if you are already subscribed. I don't think it's bad in that sense, but I didn't much care for it myself. It lacked any strong character moments, and focused more on just slamming out backstory after backstory; never letting any character shine, and missing any real wit or charm like Castlevania had.

I found it to be a hollow attempt at recreating Castlevania. For one, the dialogue feels way more stiff and inorganic, like the people aren't having actual conversations but are just saying what they have to say to progress the story. There is also no justification for why Heron can do anything the way he does. All we know about him was he was raised a poor bastard in a secluded town and mined ore for a living. I would think that would make him a strong brawler type, yet he fights with a bow and arrow where he has uncanny accuracy with. In Castlevania, Trevor is good with a whip and knowledgeable on monsters because he trained in that specifically. His skills are justified by his actions, his character, and his past. None of that depth is present in Blood of Zeus, it just feels empty was what makes a good show great.

I wish there were more character interactions. Coz they talk about how they’re all friends but they have like one conversation

I never understood why these god's would vary in how much they interfered with humanity and the motivations for their actions. The portrayal in this show depicts the socio-political clime the God's operated in and made it make sense. I love the way it's written. Breathes life into an epic and I really enjoyed it. A long act 1 but I enjoy the lore

I just finished binging it and honestly it was pretty solid. It ain't as good as masterpieces like Castlevania obviously but if you're bored and wanna watch something fun, then I recommend this. It's only 8 episodes and each is like 30 minutes so it doesn't really take that long to watch it all.

SPOILER WARNING I LOVED it. As someone who loves Greek mythology, this show is as great as Percy Jackson. However I thought it was pretty lame how they killed Zues at the end. I also wish they showed more of the gods intermingling with the humans. Other than that it was absolute perfection

I think I'll give it another chance. The characters didn't really interest me and the action scenes in some way lacks purpose. I get that they show these undead looking things were taking vengeance for the Titans but the first episode never gave me a reason to chose a side. From what I remember the Greek Gods were kind of d*cks and the Greeks insisted on killing Socrates. To be honest I don't know much of the Titans so I didn't know who to go for and that's why the action meant nothing to me.

Literally just got done watching and then saw your vid, I got the same issues with it, I didn't get too attached to the characters bc we barely got characterization. It felt like they wanted to focus on nothing but action like modern superhero movies wish they chilled and gave a bit more explanation on some plot points. I have prior knowledge on a lot of greek gods and mythology so it was neat to see some of that but again I wish they took their time a bit, let us see the sights of this great world & its characters. It was a cool ride but I wouldn't go back to it, I need more than 2 interesting characters. Also when it comes to modern cartoons not bein super mind grabbing anymore, I kinda have to disagree, I ran into that prob a bit with Amphibia where I just skipped some episodes bc it was really predictable to me but shows like owl house, mao mao, Craig of the creek, etc are all so interesting. I think the kids of today have a lot smarter and more interesting shows than we did growing up. I cant think atm of any shows that are super bad or too predictable besides the super heavy comedy cartoons but that's always been an issue anyway. Could if way benefited from being standard Netflix length (10 1 hour long episodes) tbh, everything felt... rushed, leaving the end... unsatisfactory to me

As you said, the show was at its best during interactions between Zeus and Hera. Outside of that the rest of the show was incredibly dry... I ended up either using certain parts of the show as background noise whilst gaming or just flat out skipping sections to get to what seemed like more dynamic sequences. Moreover due to the lack of excitement within the story, the shortcomings in the animation became even more glaring when they could be have been forgiven in a more compelling story as was in the case of Castlevania. Honestly, I was hyped for the show and I'm quite disappointed in the end product. I'll watch a second season if it's released but I'll go in with the bar set quite low and only to see if the story is in anyway more engaging.
