This. So many people go into this show expecting a blank slate character to insert themselves into, only to find out Rudeus starts off his journey as an abhorrent garbage human being, that slowly learns and grows into a better person. Emphasize on slowly, because most people do not change overnight.
Well, I also don't see what's wrong with people that DO relate to him. The series starts off with how unfulfilling and empty his life is, and that he can come back from that and live a more fulfilling lifestyle. A lot of people DO relate to how he was before, and they feel just as sad, and hopeless, and depressed as he did. People like that aren't evil. They're just lost.
@@Phatnaru0002 I think what many people go for when they see someone relating to them is that someone relates to ALL of Rudeus when in fact he like everyone is multifaceted. For some reason they assume that we relate to all he did in his past life and not the obvious stuff people can empathize with.
@@jawarafrazer8530 I agree and I even think that people who need to relate to a character to like them are pretty sad. I bet they struggle to understand people that aren't like them in real life too.
Most people ignore the fact that Rudeus' body is affecting his mind the same as he mind affects his actions he is still in the body of a kid and a childs brain is very undeveloped and doesn't exactly have the capacity for emotional maturity especially early on you see later on how he matures from his older self and acts less like a kid as the story progresses because his brain is also quiet literally physically developing as his mind is emotionally developing
Yea, for example even when a child is very mature, they still will be attracted to people their age, and rudeus was stuck in a room for 20 years so he didn't really mature
The perversion is an important and genius part of Rudeus’ character. In the beginning it’s cringe and problematic and it’s purposefully portrayed as such, but now that he’s grown and found people to accept him for who he is and where there is mutual sexual attraction, it’s played for comedy that becomes endearing. It’s also used to show the realistic aspect of progress and change when Rudy relapses into his old perverted tendencies when it’s uncalled for. The gritty realism of personal growth is on full display in this show and to just call it “unneeded” or to say “it takes away from the story” shows a complete lack of understanding for that aspect.
its like some people want idealistic heroes and not realistic ones.. stories about perfection are a thing of the past..nothing is perfect..nothing is black or white..everything has its grey tones...and this show (light novel) is a great example...cutting out these parts will break the main point of the story..the heroes redemption arc. He was wronged in the past and couldn't handle it mentally..like many young people these days..( its a culture thing, in japan many kids become hikkikomori -shut-ins ) This show handles it quite well..to show that you can always get out of it with the help of family and friends...Too bad that the modern west audience is so blind to only want action scenes..and when an episode handles the hard truth they cry that its boring...
@@TheNakoriusidealistic heros are still necessary along with realistic they are both important character troupes and archetypes exist for a reason taking away one whole archetype is just removing an entire style of storytelling with nothing gained idealistic heros embody the ideals we should strive to achieve the representation of what we should want to be the realistic show the hardship of attaining and meeting those ideals and that even if it is hard even if you fail to meet them all the time it's important for a hero to still strive for the ideals they belive in
@@animeproblem1070 id say in modern times its a curse to think that being ideal or perfect is something to strive for...shoving that to kids will break them..i saw many young people break down when reality showed up..grades, bullies, taxes...people should be ready for it..and not coddled into thinking they are special and will always win...i loved the quote from 'Serenity' -''Do you know what the definition of a hero is? Someone who gets other people killed'.
@@TheNakorius so we shouldn't try to be better people we shouldn't seek to be good to achieve ideals we should settle for mediocrity and failure people shouldn't dream is all you said the world is harsh just give up because you can't attain what you want how depressingly sick are you that you can't see the evil inherent in telling people to just give up on striving for ideals
@@TheNakorius a firefighter is a hero someone who saves someone's life is a hero deconstructing everything people live for in a society without building anything better in its place is just destruction and when you do that the only quote left to the world is that "to feel the warmth denied to them they burned down society and warmed themselves by that fire" Heroes aren't just the super powerd characters from stories sometimes they're just a good person like Mr. Rodgers a man who was without a doubt a hero because of the simple fact that he cared idealistic Heroes are built off of the stories of real people and made grander by the retellings I mean this in terms of personality and what their ethics and morals are you have nothing to offer and you offer nothing in the place all you seek is destruction while understanding nothing
I really don't get what people have against the sex in MT, you'd think it was a full on hentai but the only nudity we've seen is of Rudeus. I've heard over and over again "it would be better if there wasn't so much sex in it" Sex is a part of relationships, and the show is about relationships, normal people like sex, there's nothing wrong with it. Dang near every major character in the series has something revealed about them as far as sexuality and that's cause they're not celibate monks. The author of MT talked about how sex is usually shown in media as either divine and sacred or gratuitous debauchery and in life it can be both, just like in the show. There can be negative things and positive things that result with sex I'm not going to go into details cause spoilers but anyone that's watched or read MT knows what I'm talking about.
@@MuddyAxolotlthat is so true and it is also a bunch of people who have never been in a relationship before always dissing the show because they don't understand how weird and complicated human Interactions are, it is flawed like any relationship a person has in their life with anyone
I think what draws people away is Rudeus's garbage behavior and while I don't blame them, you aren't supposed to like him, at least not completely, I thought the stuff he did was awful but could tell he was genuinely trying to be better and was growing so I still liked and rooted for him, and people like to bring up "he's in his thirties" when no the tf he isn't? (at least mentally) it's a quickly glossed over fact, but Rudeus began isolating himself in the first year of high school, so he's 14 years old when he isolated himself, maybe 15, and he never grew out of a teenagers mindset, his mental development wasn't even stunted, it regressed, because all he did from between isolating himself is watch anime and another thing teenage boys are known to do, add onto the fact that in his next life he was allowed to act like a child for the next 10-ish years. All of this isn't trying to excuse his behavior, just an explanation of why he acts the way he does.
I feel like people who complain about mushoku tensei are kinda senseless and cant accpet anyhing that is beyond their claustrophobic walls of comfort, plus the anime is labeled as ecchi, so of course it´ll be ecchi. Im not gonna watch a fantasy and say "theres too much fantasy".
The reason Mushoku has a fantasy tag on it is not because of the reincarnation, MC getting a wife, living a happy married life and starting a real family from the beginning was the real fantasy all along💀💀💀
The problem is the severity of the etch, and the age of the characters themselves. I found it to be a little too much myself at some points. But I can still appreciate the other core aspects.
@@Mossaboy Hot take(well not even. I think I'm 100% correct on this). It was meant to be too much to show off how Rudeus is at that moment. I really haven't seen anyone really enjoy those ecchi scenes in S1 where Rudeus is perving out neither in the comedic or ecchi sense.
I agree with this, which is why I stated that it does serve a purpose, I think its more on the conveyance of the purpose rather than it itself. You can depict a trope without going a certain distance. But I must say that if the authors are going into this much depth on that point, then we got some fun times to come with other elements of the show.
@@corneliuschiew I listened to an audio book with increased speed. I'm such a slow reader and can't focus. This way I often "read" one volume per day, even on work days. The audio books are usually 7 hours per novel, but with increased speed it's probably 4 or 5. And I can play games while listening.
The MC and author are complet psychos. The show has some fucked up concepts. Yet he has the potential to be top 3 all time anime. We got to the see the characters (even the supporting ones) get great development. I've never imagined that I'd love supporting characters this much and I've never seen useful supporting characters that aren't the typical OP supporting one, they are weak or average but very useful. I love this show too much that I started reading the LN.
The light novels are amazing hopefully you enjoy your journey through mushoku tensei, it's a series that impacted me a lot so hopefully it will leave you with something
Problem with intros is not only that it costs a lot to do extra 90 seconds of animation per episode, but also there are only a few stories where it could be actually done. I mean what could anime like "That time when I reaincarnated with my Smartphone" do in these 90 seconds? Show some extra tits?
I would've likeed the "perversion" aspcet, because I could immerse myself in that kind of medivel scenario where these things are kind of usual. But they never pull through and that makes it hypocitical. But I am also only like 12 episodes in, so maybe....
