Eventually I could ride for several hours through the mountains near my home in Australia. I credit the riding with my recovery both mentally and physically. Even if you only go out for 15 minutes at a time, it will help you immensely. Hang in there brother, ride you must, it's therapy for the body, mind and soul. 🇦🇺👍

I started riding HD in 1981, still riding now. These bikes all sounded great but nothing beats the confidence of riding the Twin Cam engine and knowing I will get home without my gear shif lever, exhaust pipes or something else shaking off the bike. My dad had a 67 shovelhead, purple, green, blue metallic chameleon paint job with ghost flames. Not sure what if anything was tuned on it, but I remember if he'd get on it, it would shoot some small flames out the exhaust. When he took it to Harley Davidson back in 2017 they just died to have it, and he went for it. Walked out with a brand new Harley with 0 miles and paid $250 cash. No payments just about an even trade. He's at the end of his riding days though, laid it down twice, second time didn't have the strength to get it off him and the exhaust sat on and burnt his leg until someone pulled over to help. He's 68 now he says his body just ain't what it used to be. He fixed the bike both times and no insurance since it was just him involved, so he's going to hand it down to me. 2017 with 187 miles, no dents or scratches, told him he should've kept the shovelhead to hand down to me. Lol.

I can never hear that sweet loping sound at idle & not think of Van Halen's Hot For Teacher! It really makes me curious to see an overlaid animation of the engine to see why it has such h a unique sound.

I thought I would scan through the comments to see if anyone mentioned that song and here it is. There's a drummer that does a good cover of it here on you tube.

Have a '79 shovel FXEF and a '23 LRS 117 with S&S 475 cam. The M8 sounds pretty sweet also.

That gave ne flasbacks - when I was a kid seeing British bikers riding choppers just like that. The fine art of looiking like you’re barely hanging on to a maniac machine

It's one of the reasons I love Shovels. I love ALL of them!! If I had to choose one? The first bike because it's old school including the shotgun drags. I just love the shit out of shot gun pipes, man!! And the note coming out of them. Mmmm Mm!!

I'm leaning towards your shovel. Mostly because it's so familiar. Do you sometimes wish you had a front brake riding through the Bay or nah?

It truly is iconic, but my favorite gallop from HD is their Knucklehead.... But DAMN is it hard as hell to find one for sale that doesn't cost both kidneys and your first born

I know somebody makes modern Pans and Shovels probably improved and more reliable but there not cheap
@aodhokelly8811
@aodhokelly8811 Год назад
@@davidefland1985 I've seen these replica builds, there are companies that make them brand new, not sure how well they fare like if they could be used everyday or more for show or occasional sunday runs but either way they look the part. I love the Evo engines and of course the reliability but the older Harleys have so much character so ideally I'd love one that looks and sounds something like these old Knuckleheads or panheads but had the modern reliability, preformance and fuel economy of the newer bikes. I suppose the Shovelheads are kind of a compromise of the two in a way, they do need looking after and know how but they have decent pulling power and they look and sound great..

At least to my ears, the shovel has the best sound of any H-D powerplant. The machine with the green & flames paint had just the right tone for me...

I'd agree. That romping Shovel, slow rolling canter is a perfect Harley Iron horse sound. Next would be the Evo, Potato Potato Potato tune they put out.

The loudest exhaust ever is an early shovelhead with the large kidney type bottom end, 1966-1969, 74 cubic inch(1200cc) bored out to 80 cubic inch(1340cc) with straight shorty shotgun pipes. It has a low pitch throaty sound.
