After seeing this, I regret not watching La Cage Aux Folles when I was in NYC last July. This tour de force showstopper would be worth the $87.00 ticket or more!
Actually, Douglas was amazing. Sure, he may not have the voice like George Hearn's, but when you see him portray his character in the play, he's actually quite good. You don't always have to have the best vocals...even Harvey Fierstein proved that when he was Edna and Albin/Zsa Zsa....

What if the actor has been told by the director to play it that way on purpose, if only to earn sympathy for Albin (ZaZa), who has struggled mightily to overcome having lived his whole life breaking out of the prison that lies behind the closet doors. I can see him tearing the doors off their hinges and throwing them aside, like the Superman of his own life. Remember, an actor interprets the vision of the director. Incidentally, I couldn’t disagree more about Douglas Hodge. His voice is at least as good as George Hearn’s! He uses it quite expertly to communicate the character to the audience. I think that this performance is perfection!
Yes, I enjoy Pathos > Impeccable Vocals in shows! This performance moves me to tears!! I love his timbre, & I love his voice, & I love what he does with it. Bravo & Brava!!!
