+Cedric Mathew Hudson search Idina Fanzel on youtube, there's a bootlegs playlist with two separate OBC performances (the second one is higher quality)
@@Danisnotonfore fala sério, na música ela diz que tem coisas q são perdidas, o que mais ela perdeu se não a elphaba? Isso não tem a ver com o Fiyero, qual é, eu sei que você não é burro ao ponto de não entender isso
what a beautiful song! Glinda here was like "Hey, I've achieved what I want to have, but why I am not happy? I should be happy, but I've lost some important things/person along the way."
+Amnaa Nisar Basically, Glinda is in a position where she finally has everything she *thought* she wanted, but realizes that she's not as happy as she thought she would be. At that point, she has to convince herself, at least in front of the public, that she is truly happy: "That's why I couldn't be happier No, I couldn't be happier Though it is, I admit The tiniest bit Unlike I anticipated But I couldn't be happier Simply couldn't be happier Well, not "simply" Cause in your dreams. it's strange but it seems a little, well... complicated There's a kind of a sort of, cost There's a couple of things get, lost There are bridges you cross you didn't know you've cross until you've crossed And if that joy, that thrill Doesn't thrill like you think it will Still- with this perfect finale The cheers in the valley, who Who wouldn't be happier? So I couldn't be happier Because happy is what happens When all your dreams come true Well, isn't it? Happy is what happens When your dreams come true!" Throughout that piece of the song, there are several different changes of pace and rhythm to get across the point that she's very conflicted about her feelings.
Amnaa Nisar ik this is an old comment. But Elphie and Galinda are actually in love with each other. “There are bridges you crossed you didn’t know you crossed until you cross.” She was already in love with Elphie when she had to go and she losses that so she will never be fully happy. It’s really sad.
nodody ever has and nobody ever will. i didnt c original cast but i saw some of the orginals. met kristin but for a concert she did 5 years later. met norbert 3 years after wicked and never met idina
Seriously, this song is in my line of favorites with Defying Gravity and For Good! All the chills! And it makes Glinda such a strong character not just a bimbo or comic relief. This is her progress, her contemplating on her dreams coming true, being truly "popular", while the Wizard and Madame Morrible are both lost in their power.
And there is always so much sadness in this song: she achieved everything she wanted, but realized, that she doesn't want it that way, and there's nothing she can do about it, there's no going back. It tears me apart every time. I think it's the most powerful song of this musical. Popular is just funny, and defying gravity in my opinion just another self empowerment song(don't mean to offend someone here, I love both of this songs)
I get actual chills when I hear this song. you can hear the pain in her voice, yet she still carries on pretending for the greater good. it's such a real emotion and I can feel it when she sings
*I always imagine a tiny moment when Glinda catches a glimpse of a little girl sitting on her father's shoulders in the crowd below, wearing a tiara like an adorable little princess, so full of dreams and hope, looking up to Glinda as a role model. Then Glinda finds the strength to powerhouse the last lines, "When your dreams come true!" *
I love Kristin as Glinda. I wish I could go back in time and see the original cast do the show. Most of the others casts are good, but there is just something about the original that gives me chills, especally Kristin and Idina.
Thank Goodness is one of my favorite songs of the whole soundtrack, mostly because it says so much without saying much at all.. it has a beautiful bittersweet tone, Glinda isn't over losing her friend to her fleeing, and she never will be, but she knows that she cant show it. She just needs to smile and wave, she needs to be happy, the people need her to be happy, but why isnt she happy? She asks herself.. "I should be happy, but I'm not.." she truly loved Elphaba. And she cared about her so deeply.. She is one of the faces of Oz, she needs to be happy, so the people are happy.. in one of her quotes in the show mentions how she's looked up to. And during For Good, Glinda says that Elphaba was the only friend out of her many many friends, that truly mattered.. Thank Goodness isnt about a celebration of marriage.. it's a bittersweet song about a loss of heart..
That's why I couldn't be happier No, I couldn't be happier Though it is, I admit The tiniest bit Unlike I anticipated But I couldn't be happier Simply couldn't be happier (spoken) Well - not "simply": (sung) 'Cause getting your dreams It's strange, but it seems A little - well - complicated There's a kind of a sort of a cost There's a couple of things get: lost There are bridges you cross You didn't know you crossed Until you've crossed And if that joy, that thrill Doesn't thrill you like you think it will Still - With this perfect finale The cheers and ballyhoo Who wouldn't be happier? So I couldn't be happier Because happy is what happens When all your dreams come true Well, isn't it? Happy is what happens When your dreams come true!
Idina and Kristin will forever be the best Elphaba and Glinda. The way they portrayed the duality of their respective characters was not seen anymore, even though all the actresses were superb, the two of them were simply unbeatable top-tier performers. This scene is one of the most difficult to portray when it comes to Glinda's character. It finally shows how behind the 1000-watts smiles, affected giggles and frilly clothes, she's so much more. And how equally trapped she is by the situation both she and Elphaba have put themselves in. Many take her as opportunistic, but Glinda was just as much a victim as Elphaba was. And Kristin was the one who portrayed that aspect of Glinda the best.
You are totally right but I hope that Ariana will be able to do justice the duality of the song & character as well. Specially since she is being mentored by Kristin & because Jon said that the whole room was very moved & cried several times during her audition.
i love watching this. i love the changes of emotions on her face! maybe i'm reading too much into it but...you really see how she's trying so hard to be happy when she's just confused and sad and a bit angry inside. what an awesome actress. not to mention singer!
She captures every emotion of Glinda in this scene so beautifully. Having to inspire the people, losing her friend and learning her fiancé doesn’t love her back. Every word speak truth of how Glinda would be feeling right there. If I had even an inch of this talent.. 😩🙌🏼
Its kind of funny how much I personally connect to the characters in their given situations. The emotions are just so original! Not necessarily meaning unique, just from the human heart.
Tay Kachingwe yes she was! “There are bridges you crossed you didn’t know you crossed until you cross.” I think she crossed lines into love with Elphie and she didn’t no it til she was already in love. “Kind of a sort of cost. A couple of things get lost.” Without Elphie she will never be fully happy. And For Good is a CLEAR expression of true love “you’ll be with me like a hand print on my heart” so sad. So beautiful.
Watching this after seeing the Popular clip, and I am so impressed with how Kristin is able to go from seeming bubbly and youthful to older and sadder.
when I first hear the lines "there's a kind of a sort of a loss..." I got so sad...they had a great stage version up but it was gone pretty fast...was lucky enough to catch it before youtube had to take it down.
wow +10 years and its still absolutely lovely. it means more to me now than it did over a decade and a half ago. as an adult getting what you want means nothing if u are not happy with what you have become.
The original performance of Wicked is a masterpiece and Kristin could not have done a better job than this with Glinda. The way every tiny facial movement amplifies the way Glinda is unsure about why she isn't happy while also having to keep the facade of perfect and happy girl idk it's just perfect to me
Kristin did real great I felt the emotion, the irony of having what you want but it didn't felt like how you think it would. 😢 she sounds regretful in the end having lost her friend but still convincing herself to be happy.
I know that Glinda here would be upset about losing her friendship with Elphaba and the lies the public believe about her, but is there also an element of sadness that she's in a loveless relationship and she knows Fiyero loves Elphaba and not her?
@kairia I was overwhelmed with the staging and the tech. I do tech work as a volunteer at a local community theater and I guess I pay more attention to the tech. I have never seen the wizard of OZ and was trying to understand this story. I still can't think of a single song from this wonderful show.
“There are bridges you crossed you didn’t know you crossed until you crossed”. Gosh, that line hits hard for some reason. Every time I see this show I look forward to this exact moment. The sentiment, the lyrics and the way the entire orchestra crescendos might be my favourite musical moment in the show. It’s hard to understand from the quality of this recording or even the cast recording but this moment never fails to give me goosebumps and, personally, runs it home that this is Glinda’s story. I truly think she had a tremendous character arc that eclipses Elphaba. Elphaba was a rebel from the start. It was Glinda who had to develop as a character and by the end she has. When she is in the bubble for the final time and reprises a line from “For Good”, thinking her husband and best friend are dead when they’ve pretty much deceived her and run off together causes my sympathy to fall towards Glinda as she’ll live the rest of her days with that guilt. Probably said more than I needed to but after seeing Wicked again recently it just cements my feelings about the two characters. Edit - I’ve been reminded that they were never married. My mistake. Anyway, I still think it was a rotten move on both their parts at the end.
Dear god, I love Wicked so much. I don't think I ever had a dream until I realized how much I want to see this show in person. I'm from Argentina, so it's gonna take a while, but I just want it so bad
Madame Morrible in the background, keeping an eye on Glinda so that she doesn't break the true facts to the Oz citizens.....looks like a scary Ghost in the dark....😳😳
