@@codathompson342 If we're talking about belting, no it's not. He had to sing "soul of a man" and "Step One" a half step down from the original when he played Charlie in Kinky boots.
It’s such good staging I want to cry, I keep showing it to people but they don’t get how brilliant it is because they aren’t huge theatre nerds like me. I love when shows capture strange moments that happen in your head-like how this is Evans experience with feeling anxious and excluded from the whole world-because it stirs really deep emotions in the audience, and actually pulls us into the storyline. it’s such a powerful tool.
Ben Platt is adorably awkward. That alone is enough to make me love this show, not even considering the amazing message, music, and rest of the cast. DEH is officially one of my new favorite obsession.
This is the first time I have seen actual video of the show - those projections are really cool, and the lighting design in general is really cool! I sense a Tony nod...
OddUndeniably yess it was so cool, when the shows about to start the original iPhone ringtone plays and the call app icon pops up on the screen. I just thought that was clever for them to do that cause most theaters just announce that the show is going to start
PowerGlove79 I feel, I'm from SC and don't have the money for a ticket much less a trip to New York. I have to wait for a touring production to come around but this might sell out pretty quickly once that happens :(
Don't think that I like Dear Evan Hansen more than Hamilton. I love all my children equally, it's just that Dear Evan Hansen is the little baby that needs my constant attention right now.
Really? I felt Hamilton is getting to much love. I think DEH deserves a little more attention, even though everyone is now like "AWE WHY IS BEN PLATT LEAVING I LOVED HIM!" And they didn't even care until now, DEH is about what teenagers could go through. That's why I think it needs more love.
Ok first off I'm already obsessed over a musical that I have heard one complete song of. Second, did anyone else lose their minds over the lighting & projections at 1:29? Like I literally replayed that cue 5 times just because of how amazing it is
I start crying every time waving through a window gets to the one part where everything stops and then the music crashes and the lights flash and everything because I relate to that so much, when he tries to walk to the other side of the line and the people just turn the other way omfg this musical just gets me, I'm amazed to find a show that understands what it feels like.
Moozie well it makes sense that a modern play about modern-day problems such as suicide and anxiety would be more relatable that a play focused on one of our founding fathers in the 1700's
they should just,,, professionally record the whole show ??? it'll take a day or two at the most and since they have a lot of it done anyways for promotional material, they could just do the whole ??? thing ???
Hvitur no one watches bootlegs to avoid paying, they watch bootlegs because otherwise they’ll never see it because they can’t afford/dont live in the area. maybe professional bootlegs that can be bought make more sense
@@blueraptorbird6243 They could release it after the show closed. Then again, it started at London West End not too long ago. I'm pretty sure tho they still would make crazy money by selling Dvd's. Plus it would perhaps prevent a shitty movie-adaptation
@@blueraptorbird6243 I think watch a show and beeing actually here is different than watching it on a DVD, and that's why people are still going to buy tickets for the show. I live in France and we don't have any way to see those shows, that makes me very sad. So if I could have just a DVD recording, that would be awesome and make it easier to help other people discover musical theatre :)
Also, there’s separate rights negations that have to happen when a show is filmed and sold. Every contract would need to be renegotiated, which obviously has been done, but the producers need to be 1000% sure they’ll get a return on the investment
josie offutt Well, Next to Normal is still by far my favorite musical of all time, but DEH really is something quite incredible! I mean before I even listened to the cast album I only read the synopsis on Wikipedia and I was already crying!
Going to see it in one week from now. Is the sound as good as in youtube ? the reason I'm asking, many singers when perform in real stage, the sound sucks.? Reply
the sound in real life is even better than in this video because the standards are set very high for broadway performers, pop stars may be able to get away with lip synching and mediocre singing but that's not the case for broadway, everybody in this cast is an incredible singer, you won't be disapointed
yeah, you can go and wait by the stage door after the show, they'll be barricades set up so it's not hard to find and you can ask for pictures and autographs, it's a fun time and everyone in the cast is really nice
I'm so in love with this show and Ben Platt's incredible performance. I've seen it three times now and wish I could see it everyday of my life. What a wonderful story and Evan is such a relatable character for me.
This musical gave me stomach pains. Like I feel like throwing up. like damn Phillip's death didn't hurt me this bad. Like I can't breathe correctly after watching words fail and watching Evan have a breakdown.
I got to watch both Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen with fantastic seats. While Hamilton was enjoyable to watch and listen to. This show really had an impact on me. Just the realness of the characters and the tone it set was so intense that you can really relate to the characters and you feel the pain they feel. It is truly a moving musical and the cast performances were absolutely amazing i would watch it 1000 more times if given the opportunity. Same with Hamilton
Absolutely the best play I have ever seen. Ben Platt and Laura Dreyfus and the cast were amazing. Came out to sign autographs and they were all very professional and gracious. Amazing-Amazing-Amazing.....
"The ingenuity behind Hamilton is profound, the lyrics thread together with the storyline seamlessly and truly show The Mastermind that Lin-Manuel Miranda is. Dear Evan Hansen (DEH) is beautiful in its storyline and it's compelling, thought provoking and moving themes. The two musicals are ENTIRELY different and I think it's quite silly to compare them in any form, they're both amazing :)" - Hayloou
i saw this yesterday afternoon and it is the best show ive seen on broadway. Such a moving and emotional performance. Excellent music and I'll admit I teared up many times throughout the performance
I'm saying it only cause I WANT TO SEE IT; But they should make a movie based on this, but like how they did Rent. They did good with that and should use actual Broadway actors
I was supposed to see Dear Evan Hansen live over this past weekend in New York City. My choir was going on a trip to perform at Carnegie Hall and then see a Broadway show. We were gonna meet the cast after. Then an international pandemic got our trip canceled. C'est la vie, I guess.
Saw it last night. DEAR EVAN HANSEN was one of the most beautiful, powerful, emotional, dark and haunting original new musicals I've ever seen this year. Pasek and Paul's score is filled with uplifting and motivational messages especially those who were an outcast and wanting to let their voices. The must see musical since Next to Normal. Michael Lee Brown and Garrett Long, wow. Their performances left me speechless and their chemistry as Mother and Son was brilliant (especially the intensity in Act 2). And of course Laura, Jennifer, Mike, Michael, Will, Kristolyn gave the most emotional performance ever. PS I AM SOMEDAY GOING TO BE IN THIS SHOW EITHER AS EVAN OR JARED.
as someone with anxiety, this show (ben especially) really captures what it’s like. the feeling of being invisible, the fear that no one likes you and they’ll leave, the constant stuttering and apologising, along with the fidgeting and awkward speech. it’s brilliant
I had friend that listened to the soundtrack everyday and was dying to see it. Her drama teacher made a field trip to go see it. My friend was moved to smarter classes, so her schedule changed. There was only one drama class, so she had to change to chorus. When she heard about the trip she was so sad and mad at the same time because it was only for the drama class. There was also a field trip for chorus, but she said that it sucked. Cat, if you are reading this hope u get to see it next year.
I saw this last night and it is absolutely one of the best shows I have ever seen, it was incredible the entire way through. It is so well done. If you get the chance to see it GO SEE IT.
I have this vision of waving through a window every time I listen. There is a window in the middle of the stage. On one side is Evan and on the other side is a female who dances a contemporary dance (which I have choreographed in my head a million times.) Whenever Evan goes “tap tap taping on the glass” he taps on the glass and the girl makes some sharp movement every time he taps. Which signifies that every time he does something she can almost feel the hurt from it. Meaning they are in a lot of ways the same person and have a connection. Also every time he says “waving through a window” he waves through the window and the girl waves back. It’s supposed to signify that he is not alone and this girl has the same problems he does but they can’t see each other. It’s probably dumb, I’m just a kid but it’s just what I see.
Thanks for uploading this. It reminded me that I hadn't added my Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack to my main playlist yet! **goes to replay entire soundtrack**
just saw this play with noah galvin as the lead tonight!! it was an amazing show and waving through a window is my new favorite song lol. i wish i could have seen it with ben platt but im very grateful to have seen it at all after seeing these comments from people who might not ever have the opportunity
A great, great show! Just saw it over the weekend. Even without Ben Platt and Laura Dreyfuss, this was one of the best things I have ever seen. And this includes seeing Phantom with Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman and Steve Barton AND Les Miserables with Colm Wilkinson, Frances Rufelle and Judy Kuhn. What can I say, the story, the music - the near perfect, if not perfect musical. Wow.
