The leveling instrument is a surveyor tool, there would be someone with a tall measuring stick, would stand at another part of the property and you can get the elevation of the property to build level buildings, or when putting in drainage, you would know your elevation for proper drainage. 🤠👍
The sight level was used in construction like a simple, basic theodolite, my dad had one, he called it a 'dumpy level', I presume its was used to locate the lavatories.
I reckon the steel ball is off a large pressure relief valve. You adjust the release pressure by how far up or down the ball is secured on its steel slide bar.
Yeh, seems that way. It makes sense now I know what people have said.. and the instructions helped a bit. At first my mind went to a rifle scope or range finder etc... wayyy off.
The Whitworth spanner is for the really old English stuff. I have a ton of those old spanners. Pretty much useless for anything less than a hundred years old.
